Ed1 - Salah penalty stone cold penalty or is it just me? Not sure what was Neville's issue with it?

The Jurgenator

{Ed001's Note - looked clearcut to me.}

1.) 21 Apr 2019 19:39:19
I think it's one of them that is a definite foul but, unless he goes to the floor, it isn't given.

2.) 21 Apr 2019 19:49:28
Thought that too, looked an absolute stonewall.

3.) 21 Apr 2019 20:10:06
If the foul occurred anywhere else on the pitch it would have been a free kick, so it was a clear penalty. The defender wrapped his arms around Salah for several seconds, he forced the ref into the decision.

4.) 21 Apr 2019 20:57:26
Salah had nowhere to go but to the floor. IMO the ref would have given it if Salah went over or not, he was just waiting for any advantage that played out.

5.) 21 Apr 2019 21:07:55
It was wwf.

6.) 21 Apr 2019 21:07:59
Colin will use it as his press conference rant.
100% guaranteed.

7.) 21 Apr 2019 21:08:42
Stonewall, the real issue is that if the player doesn’t go down it doesn’t get given. I’ve said it a hundred times, refs need to give fouls without the need for players to hit the deck. If Salah hadn’t, and that’s what Neville was moaning about- the way he went down, it never would have been given. The defender had both arms round him for a good 5 seconds.

8.) 21 Apr 2019 21:30:32
Spot on Ron! At least he’s predictable with his moaning. If you start cuddling forwards as a defender you are going to give away pens. And as for sly shirt pulls, how many of those have we not been given, this or any season? A very good result today win by a team sticking with it and doing their jobs. Hope Fabs is ok for the last few games.

9.) 21 Apr 2019 22:19:34
Maybe they can ask Warnock (not arsed about his Colin anagram) how many times and for how long a defender can grab and man-handle a striker in the box before the ref should give a penalty. If that is not a penalty then we should all pack up and go home.

10.) 21 Apr 2019 22:32:39
From the first view from the back I would say no but when you see it from the front it’s 100% a pen. And the ref had a brilliant view and gave it straight away.

11.) 22 Apr 2019 00:26:15
Longthing76, spot on. The ref had the best view of it cos like you say, he saw the incident from the front AND from the side. As for Warnock saying Salah dived, the adage that says, "It is better to be silent and be thought of as a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt" royally applies here.

12.) 22 Apr 2019 05:14:00
For me 100% stone wall penalty as pointed out anywhere else on the pitch and it’s given as a free kick without hesitation. Cardiff had plenty of opportunity to take his hands off him and didn’t. Maybe Salah makes the most of it but good on him if he’s going to be constantly fouled like that.
Also if it had been a corner and a defender had his arms like that on a player when the ball is coming in the red would blow for a penalty as well. And we’ve seen plenty of those given. As for Neville how many times have we heard him say “he’s made the ref ask the question with that tackle” he said it enough times against us. He’s just rubbishting it as he sees us so close to that title and United are a million miles away.

13.) 22 Apr 2019 06:46:01
It comes back to the age-old debate: if you have the ball in the box and you are obviously fouled, should you go to the floor?
Salah was continually fouled for about 5 seconds and the ref wasnt blowing, so he dropped and, voila, its a penalty. He could have possibly stayed on his feet but why would you when the ref isn't penalising an obvious offence?
If the ref isn't going to punish a foul unless you are lying on the grass, i have no problem whatsoever with players taking the horizontal option. At least Salah tried to fend the defender off before realising he was left without much option.

14.) 22 Apr 2019 09:49:51
Like a Virgil, spot on. Maybe these so called "experts" should tell us for how long a player has to stay on his feet after being man-handled by an opposing defender before the ref should award a free/ spot kick. Why? Cos their analysis seem to change depending on who the player is or the club he plays for.

Ed1, on behalf of an expecting nation - match review? ☺.

The Jurgenator

{Ed001's Note - oh sorry I forgot to upload it! I will do that now.}

1.) 16 Apr 2019 15:00:37
Ha no worries ed now read it and it is as great as usual.
You now have a baying mob demanding their fix after every game - we are all addicted to these 😁.

{Ed001's Note - I just hope they continue to be written after wins for a long time to come!}

2.) 16 Apr 2019 16:17:33
Amen and hallelujah.

{Ed001's Note - if I had a penny for each time I was asked for one, I would have a lot more money than I do now. Might even be up to 50p by now...}

16 Mar 2019 07:45:45
Ed1, what are barbiturates? 😅.

The Jurgenator

{Ed001's Note - check the label on the bottle you got from the doctor on your wife's askance....}

1.) 16 Mar 2019 09:11:26
Top form ed1 😅
And sorry missed from first post - great match review as always 👍.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate. And it's ok, clearly the pills are working.}

2.) 16 Mar 2019 11:36:02
Lucky jammer, I'd love to get my hands on a bottle of barbys.

3.) 16 Mar 2019 14:31:52
Where was the match review ed001 must have missed it.

{Ed001's Note - here mate

4.) 16 Mar 2019 23:20:55
I must say, I thought Firmino was guilty of giving the ball away cheaply a lot in the first half.

11 Mar 2019 19:58:27
Eds, Real Madrid likely will have a fire sale in the summer.
Anyone YOU would be interested in/ worth our trouble?

The Jurgenator

{Ed001's Note - Varane maybe?}

1.) 11 Mar 2019 20:39:21
Yeah. Modric still worth something? Dani Carvajal for TAA in midfield?

2.) 11 Mar 2019 20:43:13
Has Varane sorted out his injury issues?

3.) 11 Mar 2019 20:56:22
Modric would add real quality to our midfield - top player. He is one of the main reasons they won the 4 in a row.

4.) 11 Mar 2019 21:01:59
Varane and van Dijk would be the closest thing to a modern day Maldini and Baresi. Don’t get me excited otherwise i’ll start to believe it is happening!

5.) 11 Mar 2019 21:19:58
Carvajal is poor, very overrated.

6.) 11 Mar 2019 21:34:31
Lol we can only dream AW.

7.) 11 Mar 2019 21:55:25
Varane would obviously be cool but never happening. A more realistic option would be Asensio for me.

8.) 11 Mar 2019 21:57:39
Going back a few years I thought Varane was going to be the stand out CB in world football. I have to say since then i have completely forgot about him. Injured a lot and now playing for the worst Madrid team in 20 years. Is he now player i thought he would be? Would be interesting to see him beside VVD i guess.

9.) 12 Mar 2019 07:05:29
He's just won the champions league and world cup?

He's in the middle of a bad season. As are the whole team. Doesn't mean he is a bad player.

10.) 12 Mar 2019 07:21:04
Varane has all the ability to be an excellent defender but he has been shocking this season. Whenever Ramos is suspended he is all over the shop positionally. I would compare him to Sanchez at spurs physically he has all the attributes speed strength good in the air but he is no Baresi his reading of the game this season has been a big let down. Could be partially do to zero protection from the midfield in front as Kroos has probably had his worse season ever, Casimero has been very poor compared to last season likewise with Modric. The brief times I’ve seen him play their young lad Valverde looks like he could become a good player. As for the rest there is quality but Madrid’s luck in the last few CL has really papered over the cracks for the last few years.

11.) 12 Mar 2019 07:50:56
Madrid would surely never sell Varane?
Great player though, agree that him and Van Dijk would be the stuff of Gods.

12.) 12 Mar 2019 08:00:21
Would take Courtois as backup to Alisson. We upgrade our 2nd choice GK and Real finally make a serious push for DDG and screw Utd over.

13.) 12 Mar 2019 16:57:46
Having Varane might inhibit Gomez development.

I’d rather have Alderweireld 👍.

14.) 12 Mar 2019 20:01:08
I’d still take varane in a heartbeat.

10 Mar 2019 20:16:07
Ed1 this is (ideally) for you - Klopp stated he thought Salah was MOM.
I as genuinely planning to raise the question of what is up with him as I thought the exact opposite. But what do I know?!
(spoiler alert - not a lot 🙂)
Interested in your take. Is it
A) correct
B) good man management of a player low on confidence or
C) bit of both?

As usual, any answer most welcomed and thanked!

The Jurgenator

{Ed001's Note - I thought he was very good but not outstanding. But now I think about it, nobody really stood out as better than the rest, so why not Salah? I mean Lallana played well, but he also made a lot of mistakes, but his contribution is more visible than Salah's, rather than better. The problem is, when you are watching the game it is very easy to miss things first time. A lot of Salah's work in particular this season goes unnoticed as it is the way he drags the defenders around to create space for others. We all know Trent causes mayhem when he gets forward, but he can only do that so easily because Salah is making a huge space for him by attracting 3 or sometimes 4 players towards his movement.}

1.) 11 Mar 2019 04:13:06
Salah is opening up space in the centre everytime he gets the ball as he attracts one or 2 players across to help out their LB. I think TAA coming back has helped here as Salah is able to do a quick dump off to him - for me this gave TAA the space and time to deliver those great crosses in the match against Watford.

2.) 11 Mar 2019 04:27:15
Salah was excellent, and certainly a MOTM contender. I'd of perhaps given it to Bobby but can see a lot of merit in it being Salah as well.

3.) 11 Mar 2019 07:11:34
I have to admit that even on MOTD I already seen hiw wrong I was!
I guess thus is the knee jerk emotional response I had during the match.
As always, much appreciated Ed!

{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate.}

4.) 11 Mar 2019 08:25:11
Mane MOTM for me Ed, scored 2 great goals and worked hard all over the field. Was a real threat throughout. Strange he often gets overlooked mate. He is 1 goal off the Prem top scorer and has been our most consistent player for the main this season IMO.

5.) 11 Mar 2019 11:12:07
Salah forced the issue for our first 3 goals, his touch is off slightly so his work looks a little scruffy at the minute but his direct dribbles and movement created the bulk of our chances yday, a few solid contenders for motm for me, any of the front 3 or lallana.

6.) 11 Mar 2019 12:36:18
Salah’s touch and finishing is off yes but at least he is causing the opposition a lot of problems, he has not scored in the last three games but has very visibly being the one causing the most problems. It seems very cheap to say he is in poor form because of this. Would you rather swap him out for a player who is going to have far less impact on the match because of a knee jerk reaction to his poor play? People should think before they spout such nonsense.

7.) 11 Mar 2019 19:55:58
I did not miss any of that, Ed01. Salah was outstanding vs Burnley and arguably MOTM, IMO. I mean, some people do not understand how he affects the game plan of the opposing team. I mean, he puts the fear of satan into those defenders and the Burnley defenders were NO different.

As a former CF, I was always told that if you can't score then you have to affect the game in other ways. Salah is doing that in abundance esp. vs Burnley and Watford where again, he was outstanding. Anyone basing his assessment of Salah on whether he scores or not, is missing the big picture. To the opposition, his mere presence on the pitch is frightening and very few player on the planet can get to that level. Sure he was off vs Everton and some fans shamelessly got on his back and wanted him sold (I have NO clue what type of LFC fans these people are) BUT I'm not worried. The goals will come for him cos he is doing ALL the other things very well.

100% verdo.
It would be easier replacing Salah if/ when he goes than replacing Millie.
Will a life time supply of Ribena do the trick?

Ed, thanks for the reply.
Makes me a bit sad tbh. For Keita. i know he has his baggage (described by ed002 previous) . Maybe we forget at times these guys might be millionaires but still are young kids in a foreign land.
Doing it with the expectations and then also not being as close with who may have been your guy once you arrive must be tough.
Hopefully things will get better for him and then - for him in the Liverpool team.

The Jurgenator

{Ed001's Note - it is his own fault, he has not made the efforts needed to get on. He had a year before joining to learn the language, it has now been nearly two years, and yet he has not bothered. For me that should have been written into his contract and should be included in all future contracts that a player has to learn English. You don't want a player being an Antonio Valencia and never bothering, it is not good for team spirit.}

Benny, I once read about an incident (I think in South America somewhere) where a ball hit a players hand and went in for a goal.
I am sure it was not clear if "ball to hand" meant goal was legal or not (I certainly have no idea even now)

1 is thus still an unknown subject?
2 maybe rule was changed lately?

Ed001 😀
Another thing came to mind.
It involves ed002 though - sharkpood (or alternatively - his insanely detailed answers he gives every now and again) only for subscribers?

{Ed002's Note - I know nothing about this and will not be accepting any money so please don't drag me in to this.}

Ed002 on retainer? 😁
First of - will subscribe later today - this site is worth it (and then some! ) .
More to the point of the question asked - match reviews you do are a massive part here.
Two proposals:
1 maybe some time difference between putting the match review for subscribers vs. none subscribers?

2 match reviews again. Time and time again, your analysis proves me I know zilch about football. Maybe adding diagrams (or similar) explaining extra about the game for subscribers?

Just for the record, I actually don't think you have to offer anything new as the site is already brilliant as is.

The Jurgenator

{Ed001's Note - I did actually, a number of years ago now, get one of those pen and drawing tablets for exactly that reason. Well not to prove you know zilch, that is just an added bonus, but to add diagrams or even create videos for the sites. The problem is that they never came with software, so I ended up never doing anything with it. I had assumed it would come coupled with a software package like the one I had bought my daughter to draw comics with. I had completely forgotten I had it until you reminded me, that is certainly something I can look into doing, along with a time delay on things, as then people are still getting the articles, so not losing out because potentially they can't afford to pay.}
