God there has been some crap chatted about henderson on here the past few weeks.

I honestly don't understand how some of you can call yourself 'fans'. Mindless negative comments that are ineloquently expressed and simply are not true. I honestly don't know where to begin with some of this crap.

Henderson is not playing very well. Not appallingly, just not very well. In my opinion he is suffering from a combination of injury struggles and being shoehorned into a position he is struggling in. I personally think he should be taken out of the firing line for a while and be given some support by being able to play alongside a legitimate defensive midfielder and this double pivot rubbish can be put to bed.

But i tell you what i will not say. I will not slag off our longest serving player, our club captain, a player who has worked so hard to get to the level he is at in the face of adversity, a player who has always put 100% in on the pitch and is more deserving to wear the shirt than any other player at our club, who needs and deserves our support after a long term injury.

I won't mindlessly slag him off with absolute drivel that simply is not true. Totally non-constructive statements about 'sideways passing', 'ping pong with the defense', 'bang average', 'we will never be successful with players like henderson'. Its disgusting. Honestly some of you have no idea what it means to support a football club. All you ever want is the club to overhaul its entire squad every year with players that are honestly nowhere near as good as our own, but some of you are so hell bent on slagging off them all that you wouldn't even know that. Just constantly drooling over foreign names in leagues you have never watched, only on youtube highlight videos, drooling over statistics and video game stats. Words like 'community' and 'support' mean nothing to some.

I'm not going to lie that i have been very critical of certain players at this club, but only because i truly believed they were not trying hard enough to improve to a respectable standard. Moreno has since proved me wrong. Long may that continue. Henderson is not one such player and yet the same people who criticise him today were probably the same ones drooling when we signed balotelli.

And to respond some of the comments i have seen below, as Ed001 has previously covered, assists mean absolutely sod all in football. Another pointless useless statistic to bash a player with instead of using your own eyes. And for those who even have the disrespect to compare him to steven gerrard, as if he has some obligation to be as good as him or he is worthless, go and stuff yourselves in a room full of posters of old players if you want nostalgia. To nostalgiacally compare our current captain, who has had no off field misbehaviours, to gerrard, as if gerrard was some kind of messiah, is insulting. For the record, i live a few streets away from gerrard and henderson, i serve and help both of them in work regularly. All i can say is that henderson is a much nicer, respectable and ideal representative for the club than gerrard ever was. And as you may have forgotten, gerrard was very close to forcing a move from liverpool on two occassions. But i guess henderson doesn't deserve to wear the shirt compared to him :) .

Top post Wooly. Some people forget how inyegal he has been in recent years. If we had a decent CDM and Hendo resumed his natural position in Wijis place people wouldn’t be spouting nonsense. Fella is a consummate pro doing exactly what he is instructed currently, and has far more ability than some give hime credit for, especially good ol ed 025. Sorry Ed 025! Love ya even if you are a blue, but some context to the needless dislike please?! No football fan can fail to see the benefits of a Henderson type player in the midst unless they are blinded by pure hatred?! 😎.

Woolback. You could slate Moreno and no one should slate Hendo. Everyone I am sure would also want to be wring about him like you are of Moreno. I also want him to be better. But for playing in the wrong position is verdict given on performance. He is not good enough in that position is absolutely correct and is being judged on that. I am not a fan of him. in that position either but still support him as a Liverpool player. But he can't be exempt from criticism as are no one else. Coutinho weren't on par and he was slated and called many things.

Great post, Wooly. Ed25 as you always tell us, that is your opinion. IMO, none of your midfield dross at Everton would make our midfield ahead of Hendo and pls, don't mention the hopelessly awful Barkley or the forever headless Gueye (baby Kante, my foot) cos they would not make our CM ahead of Woodburn.

Ok since we want to argue based on facts, I will give you facts.

How many successful take on has Henderson completed?

I know immediately Hendo supporter will say takeons are not important in his position. But look at players who are box to box or even DM, they are able to carry the ball and break in between the opponents lines. That's the sort quality of DM or whatever you call it, it relieves the defence of pressure.

It's not just the fans here who complain of Hendo, the fans at a field moan when in our match Hendo fail to spot an counter attack opportunity because he was too occupied to play it safe.

So what if you have 85 or 90% pass completion rate? My grandma passes 100% when it's side or back pass. And this behaviour puts pressure on the defence and GK. Roy kean ( I hate to use this example) snarled at young players and call them out during training when they make this kind of ping pong passes, he will tell them "you are playing for this club, we do not make this kind of safe passes, take risk and make a forward pass " and here our very own captain is doing it. This is never the Liverpool way too. We take risk and pass forward for attacking oppprtunity.

Midfield players should be contributing goals/ assists too
Henderson’s poor goal scoring record over the last few seasons says it all even when he wasn’t playing the DM role
Always opting to pass the buck instead of taking a shot from the edge of the box
At this point I would have Joe Allen instead of Hendo
The recent Chelsea game showed up his limitations.

Supermane, your post makes no sense at all. How on earth can you compare goals and assists stats for a DM? How is that even possible? This is the prob. with the Hendo debate. Those who don't like him are twisting themselves into knots trying to find flaws in his game (and there are) BUT since they can't engage in any honest critical thinking, they make up false comparisons like the one you just put up. Matic has a poorer assists/ goals ratio to Hendo. Does that make Hendo a better DM than Matic? NO!

SG played the same role for BR and scored 12 goals (ALL PENALTIES) . Does that make him better than Makelele in that role? NO. See what I did there? Your opinion ceases to be an honest opinion the day you start using dishonest parameters that are factually illogical to form it. It becomes parroting the same crap that everybody you agree with does.

Ed01 is correct. Many of those who assess Hendo based on such flippant stuff like goals/ assists as a DM, lack the footballing awareness to discuss this issue honestly so in the end, why bother?

Does anybody who slates Henderson actually watch the teams we play against and the job he's asked to do? There are very very few deep lying midfielders I've ever seen that are able to unlock two banks of five from inside one half of a pitch. I don't know what you lot want. What about the rest of the midfield and their goal/ assist stats? All I can say is if anyone can tell me a team in the league that he wouldn't get in, I can call you a liar. (Delph, Herrera, Bakayoko, Xhaka, Dier etc etc) Just because he's not Gerrard and wears the armband, he gets a bashing. Great supporters!

Hendo hasn't played well since he came back from injury, but that's the point - he's coming back from injury. Cut him some slack will you? Alonso had a season or so where he lost form - to the point where Rafa was going to replace him with Gareth Barry!
Players lose form, especially after injuries. It doesn't mean they're poor players or that they aren't putting in 100%.

Superman, I agreed with you on Allen over Henderson. Despite his small build, he never loses his cool in possession and could hold on to ball and make good pass to relieve defence off pressure.

As i said lee, i quite frankly do not care about statistics, i hate them being used in football as they are almost always total lies, manipulated in such a way to tell one story when in reality it is another. Fabregas got almost 20 assists one premier league season but really isn't that good a player. Even goals scored can sometimes not tell a story, as if you were to judge firmino, cantona and bergkamp on their goal record as strikers, rather than using your own eyes, you would probably think they are crap.

Ed025, that's your opinion, but you aren't a fan of our club. I personally think sigurdsson is nothing more than decent and is not the classy playmaker he is made out to be. The difference is he is YOUR player, and henderson is OURS. And i expect nothing less from either side to defend the majority of their players from criticism, as we both watch our own teams regularly rather than vice versa. My point is that on this page we don't really seem to take pride in our players and defend them, we just have a load of moaning petulant children who constantly talk about other teams players who, realistically, they probably have never watched, as opposed to supporting our own lads, most of whom put 100% in for the shirt. Its disgusting.

I have never called any player or for that matter any other contributor a moron, an idiot or anything like that. I would never call an Ed a Pratt etc so why should I get that from them

Super the bashing of any player all ways gets the same out come from me and it won't change a don't give a toss who it is, when they step on the field in the red of LFC I will always support them.
Remember Liverpool nearly winning the league a few yrs back? Although it was bodgers fault really because of the tactics at the beginning of the season we still may have won it if Henderson hadn't been banned for them last 3 games, yes the lad hasn't been of the same standard this season but injuries and been asked to play in a position that simply doesn't suit him doesn't help.
Look there's a lot of you on here bashing the lad for no reason although he hasn't been to the same standard he is still doing a decent job and he gives 100% every time he steps out in that red shirt of lfc.

With it being the Derby I could see why Klopp would start with Milner for experience and also did very well after coming on Wednesday, having a hand in 3 goals. Then hopefully Robertson will come back in for the West brom game in midweek.

Just to continue the trend of me trying to guess the score but getting it terrible wrong (although correct result) I am going 3-0 to the reds on Sunday.

I predicted after the Chelsea game we would win our next 4, top our group and be fourth in the league.

3 wins later that has all come true so far. Let's hope the boys make it 4 in 4.
