Few things to keep an eye on:

PSG will wrap up Godts by Monday.
Briefs of negotiations on Barcola will start to accelerate, we are aiming to get him in by the time we play Newcastle. Barcola fee will be close to 135M euros. PSG know we waited for Isak until the last day and broke the bank to get our man, they are hard operators and will know how desperate we are to replace Mo Salah. It will happen but not at the price we want.

Don't be surpised if things pick up next week.

We are also looking at stop gap options for ST (like Araujo)

Club does like Marmoush.

I don't think Cody leaves until we get a 80m+ offer now.

Jones will leave.

Also there is truth to Hector Fort links/appreciation. We went to Barcelona with another enquiry, but decided to bring Arajuo in on Iraola's requests, and it's a deal where we had no costs.

Shopping at PSG & Barcelona is ideal.

Agree11 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 21:40:45
I think Marmoush is a great idea at the right price. He had a flying start, has shown there's a player there, but performances diminished amongst reduced playing time. A fresh start at a new club alongside his old partner Ekitike is the ideal situation for him.

120m euros, including add ons. Time will yet again prove itself the ultimate witness.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 22:02:07
I like Marmoush but I'd prefer a loan with an option to buy. Hasn't been great over the last 12 months.

Agree7 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 22:32:02
Agreed, Wirtz. Are City willing to help us out like that though? A straight sale gets him off their books and frees up a place which benefits them, but a loan is essentially just giving us a dig-out.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 22:38:37
I doubt, but it will depend on what City do in terms of signings for their forward line. Remember, Savinho and Grealish have gone while City have largely focused on their midfield revamp this summer.

FWIW, I don't think Marmoush happens, but I think that's the sort of deal we would look to do for ST.

Mbaye is another one I feel might not really materialise, might be a last minute deal. Barcola will drag on but by Newcastle game will have accelerated in the media.

Hi OP, welcome to the boards, a helluva first post.

Do you have particular insight or are these rumours from social/X/websites?

Yet another ITK. Must have heard that same line 20 times now. Expect things to ramp up next week. Ffs might as well face it, we're going into the season with the paper thin squad we have right now, and it's because of the incompetence of Hughes and those above him that should have sacked him months ago.

Agree6 Disagree0

14 Aug 2026 02:54:37
Instead of waiting until last minute, what fun it would be to back out last minute for Barcola with PSG ending up with so many wingers.

Agree9 Disagree0

14 Aug 2026 07:03:13
No links to the board haha, I have a few mates that pass info on and have been spot on in the past. I myself haven't posted yet on here because I usually know how it could be perceived.

For most, this summer feels like a rinse and repeat (it has been). We are also operating quite differently this year because last year we were aggressive and were big spenders, we came into this window with clubs knowing when we want a player we'll pay big sums (Wirtz, Ekitike, Isak).

PSG are the worst to deal with in terms of sales, they fleeced Milan for 75M euros on Goncalo Ramos.

Barcola will happen and we're nearing the end of the saga, but it's a big deal and we won't want our pants pulled down publicly, it really does set a precedent for future windows.

This summer has been very hard to call for multiple reasons. New manager, World Cup year + setting down a precedent that we aren't the kinds to continue to overpay. We also need to move on players to create room (we'll start seeing exits soon).

Agree3 Disagree0

14 Aug 2026 10:30:51
PSG are hard operators, the worst to deal with, know how desperate we are to replace Salah, and will make us pay more than we want, but shopping at PSG is 'ideal'?
And how are we setting down a precedent that we aren't the kinds to continue to overpay by paying a price that we don't want to for Barcola?
Genuine questions because I'm easily confused.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2026 16:00:06
Shopping at PSG and Barcelona is ideal in the sense of the quality of players they possess. They are elite and proven.

Cadena SER claimed earlier today that Torres to PSG is essentially 'done', with all terms agreed between both clubs and the player only needing to undergo his medical before the transfer is finalised. Interestingly enough, on top of the Paris to Blackpool charter, there were claims of a private jet arriving at Paris from Barca earlier today.

Coincidence? Who knows?

Several outlets reporting PSG have returned to Ajax with a significantly increased bid thought to be over 50m, much closer to Ajax's 60m valuation. Seems likely to be major developments in the next 24-48 hours if all the above is true.

Spurs approaching for Gakpo! I’d not be letting a single player leave till we’ve bodies in plenty!

Agree11 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 20:30:18
Agreed, Jay, tbh, I wouldn't be letting Gakpo go even when we do get Barcola, he's the only forward we have with Prem experience capable of covering Ekitike/Isak. As much as I'm not a fan, I think it would be madness to move him on with the squad the way it is.

Agree9 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 20:33:28
I would imagine, if they're officially approaching him, they won't be going in blind. They'll have had a green light from someone connected to Liverpool, so that sounds like positive news on the Barcola front.

Also, positive news, they've just spent 85 million on Savinho, who averages 1 goal a season. If they're paying for goals, we could get at least a billion for Cody, give or take.

Agree10 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 20:39:52
Yeh, exactly, they are not approaching without knowing they are not wasting their time. We mightn't have a choice, Chewy. Gakpo might not want to stick around to mostly provide cf cover. Think, if the player wants to move on, and the club are getting offered £70m, a deal will be done.

Agree3 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 20:57:21
If Spurs are paying 85m for Savinho, Flo, I wouldn't be taking a penny less than that for Gakpo.

Agree8 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 21:34:05
I agree, Florian, players have the power these days, if he wants to go, we can't stop him, not to mention his wages are too high to play second fiddle, and if that's Iraola's plan for him, I imagine the club would be fairly keen to get him off the books.

Although I do feel, with fitness concerns and the increased demand from drastic change in style of play under Iraola, that there will be quite a bit of rotation this season and plenty of room for everyone to get playing time.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 21:38:10
If Gakpo is on his way out, I would only be comfortable with it if we brought in another forward, a natural striker to cover Isak/Ekitike. I'm not a big fan of the "x can play across the front line" argument.

I don't mind it for switching things up on the wings as a tactical decision, but it's not the greatest argument for consistency in a central role, something we're going to need this season.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 21:47:02
I'd agree on that Digger, Gakpo a much more proven player. True Chewy, there will be lots of playing time this season, but in the big games like City or Arsenal, Barcola and Isak will start if they are fit. Don't think Gakpo would want to start going down that road.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Aug 2026 01:25:53
More than happy to sell Gakpo to Spurs for £70-75m, but only if we secure another forward.
Said it on here a couple of weeks back that Marmoush would be a great option, and ideal support for Isak over the coming months.

Agree3 Disagree0

14 Aug 2026 08:01:58
Gakpo, in comparison to Diaz, over 50 Premier League games actually has a slightly better record than Diaz.

Gakpo scored 13 goals with 7 assists and 20 Goal involvements with a shot conversion rate of -19%.

Diaz scored 11 goals with 7 assists and 18 Goal involvements with a shot conversion rate of -18.7%.

Can't really understand why Gakpo gets the bad press that he does.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Aug 2026 09:23:09
Last season was poor and knocked confidence with Gakpo. His general lack of dynamism always means supporters won't quite take to him the way you would with a Mane or Diaz.

His attacking stats are good, but I'm not sure he does as much all round work as peak Mane or Diaz, and that's what he's being judged against.

Unfortunately for him.

He's another one who'd be a very good squad and rotation option, but on his wages he doesn't seem like someone we'd be willing to keep for the bench. Understandably, he probably wouldn't want that either.

Lino is an incredible player technically and works his socks off. Which is what makes his serious lack of end product so surprising. Every time I watch him I'm left wondering why he doesn't score or assist more goals.

Huge risk to gamble on him increasing his output.

He's scored between 2-9 goals a season in the last 4 seasons and it's declined every year (9, 7, 5, 2). I know Salah increased his output massively when we signed him, but he was on an upward trajectory.

Since the fall of Malmo, it is no surprise that we can no longer agree on what "done" means.

Having spent a good portion of the last year hiding in the kitchen at Brasserie Angelica, I now understand that the error is treating "done" as binary. It is more useful to view it as internal temperature.

1) Frozen: No contact has been made with the club/player, it's merely a name trapped in stasis by a man who watched an 8 minute YouTube clip.

2) Fridge-cold: Club aware of the player, scout reports exist, but no meaningful heat has been/should be applied.

3) Tempering: Player sounded out and is receptive. The meat is no longer inert, but no pan has been authorised.

4) Blue: First contact with the club initiated; surface level.

5) Rare: Talks active. Price range understood. Presents a potential hazard if consumed by the public.

6) Medium Rare: Done properly. Player aligned and sensible fee agreed. Add-ons are pink, not bleeding. Selling club's dignity preserved.

7) Medium: Done, but less elegantly so. More exposed but broadly acceptable. No one embarrassed themself.

8) Medium Well: Done but overworked. Too many media briefings, stretched fee and the flavour is leaving. The medical is penciled at least.

9) Well Done: Done, but barely. Overpaid and overhandled, announced late. The player holding the scarf will have the eyes of a man basted in admin for weeks.

10) Cremated: Heat without control. Selling party offended, player camp confused. Club sources later insist they were never interested.

This should allow our ITKs to resume disagreement within safe food-handling parameters.

Hi all,

Guéla Doué is keen to join us now or in winter. RCSA would like to get closer to 50 million euros. I have posted it as there are several clubs (Bundesliga and Serie A) interested in bringing in Frimpong and Ramsey on loan.

Agree15 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 09:31:58

Agree7 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 09:37:48
Ship Frimpong ff ASAP, I reckon.

Agree16 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 09:41:29
Ramsay - yes.

Frimpong - no.

Frimpong is HG and can cover a few positions. I can see AI using him this season, even if only to either find the best position he can play within our team set up, or that he isn't suitable in which case he could go in Jan or next summer.

Agree31 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 09:51:38
I can't see us buying another defender now.

Seems we bought Araujo to cover RB and CB, and with him on loan, looks like we're saving money to spend on other areas like attack.

Agree7 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 09:52:10
With you there, Zed, unsure why everyone seems to have such a big issue with Frimpong. We all loved Trent despite the fact he couldn't defend, he just had that wand of a left foot.

Frimpong has the pace and age on his side, just needs someone to coach him and help him, which Iraola will hopefully be able to do. Also, let's not act like a lot of players struggle in their first season of a new big team and country.

As well as you have said, he counts as HG which we need. No point replacing a player that is HG when we have so few with another foreign player unless it is a major, major upgrade, which I don't think overall Doue is, unless it's PSG's Doue.

Agree19 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 10:01:03
As previously stated, Frimpong is a wing-back. He can't defend, which doesn't help when you're at right back, and he's Championship level, at best, when he plays on the wing. I appreciate we need him now, but I'd be looking to move him on at the earliest opportunity. Why we ever bought him, I'll never understand.

Agree15 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 10:20:29
Championship level? Come on, Rome, that's a bit much.

I have no problem with Frimpong, I think he just needs a run without injuries and I think he'll be fine.

I do agree he's not the best defensively, pretty much due to his size, but let's be honest, he was playing next to Konate last season who was all over the place.

The back 4 were too deep and couldn't seem to stay in a straight line. It left everyone exposed.

If we play higher, and managed to hold a straight line, we will need his pace on the cover.

Agree26 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 10:27:53
I'm with Zed and Chicken. Frimpong is homegrown and offers cover in multiple positions. He might not be the greatest, but I really don't get the hate.

It would make no sense whatsoever to move Frimpong on and waste a non-hg spot on Doue - especially as we have just signed Araujo as additional RB/CB cover.

Agree18 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 10:36:47
Lurked a while, joined to defend Frimpong. Not every player in a squad can be world class. The lad has a good attitude, spreads good vibes, and when on it he has shown he can be a useful player. Under a new boss who likes an attacking fullback, hopefully a run without injury, and I think he'll do quite well.

Agree27 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 10:40:00
Zed, Frimpong can cover 2 positions, extremely poorly. If bringing in a RB means we have to move Frimpong on, I'm all for it. If he proves himself this season, fair enough, but so far he's shown nothing to rp.

Chicken, despite Trent's poor defending, he wasn't completely useless. The trade-off was that he was phenomenal with the ball at his feet. Frimpong's useless at both.

At no point last season did he show he was up to the level.

There's no homegrown issue in my eyes. Chiesa and Endo could be replaced at the drop of a hat if necessary. Use Koumas and Nyoni if you have to, we'd probably be better for it. Both looked sharp in pre-season, especially Nyoni. Macca and Gakpo may be moved on also. If Wharton rumours are true, then that's another HG.

Agree5 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 10:42:32
I agree fully, Rome, and Championship level is even pushing it, imo. Terrible football player.

Agree5 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 10:42:38
I think Doue (RB) is a very average footballer and we should stay far away.

Agree5 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 10:50:56
Chewy and Rome (and others), I honestly think that AI can get a tune out of Frimpong.

Even if I'm wrong, I'm certain AI will at least give him a chance to see what he can coach him into, so I certainly don't see him leaving this window.

There are snatches that I have seen in the games last year that indicate a player there, I just don't know whether we have a position that suits him in our current set up, but we also can't be sure what formations AI will use in the coming weeks and months.

Agree9 Disagree3

{Ed025's Note - i think the bench suits him perfectly Zed..

13 Aug 2026 11:01:42
I just don't see anything positive about Frimpong Zed either going forward or defending. I believe he's a liability and will be exploited by our opposition each and every time.

He was not a good purchase by the club. I'll be the first to admit I was wrong if the man proves otherwise, but based on what I have seen of him, I doubt that will occur.

Agree4 Disagree0

13 Aug 2026 11:19:41

I agree that I haven't seen a consistently good full game from him, SG, but I'm not 100% prepared to write him off just yet. Give AI some time with him, accepting Beefy's good point that AI was an international RB/RWB himself, so he knows what he needs to see from Frimpong, and let's see where we end up.

I really cannot see us moving on a HG player who has had minutes in the EPL last season, to bring in someone else this window.

The HG players I can see moving are Jones (as he seems to be checked out) and Elliot for gametime elsewhere - the guy needs to get his career back on track.

I get Frimpong is HG, but he is made out of tissue paper, defo not a defender for the PL.

I don't think the issue is that Frimpong cannot defend. The issue is he is tiny and easily bullied, whether he's defending as a RB or attacking as a RW/RWB. He's not a great passer either, so it's not as if he can progress the ball from the back either. Therefore, other than his vibes, and is Wirtz's bezzie, I am not sure what he offers.

If Frimpong is Championship level... I hate to think where Jones should be playing haha. I'll give Frimpong this season, anyone working/ signed under Slot's rein gets another fresh start.

Frimpong was a wing back in the Bundesliga. Now he is playing as a right back and failing. He is nothing like Trent and has nowhere near his talent, who had a wand of a right foot and could put our team on the offensive with one pass.

I'm pretty certain our manager isn't gonna change the system to suit Frimpong, so he'll need to improve drastically as a right back or go. Personally, I think we are flogging a dead horse.

Didn't Frimpong say he hadn't had as many injuries as last season?
Maybe Slot's training affected him, and playing next to Konate didn't help. Keep him this season as cover.

Keeping somebody on the books because they are home-grown is a waste of a squad spot. Players should be kept because they are good footballers and add something to the squad.

Or that the manager sees something coachable in them, WDW?

I'm with Chewy and the rest on Frimpong. Lots of pace, clearly a lovely guy, but not good enough as either a PL RB or RW. Maybe AI can improve him, but given the game time he’s had already I suspect the head coach’s mind is already made up.

As for Ramsay, it’s a shame, you feel with more luck and maybe more care, he could have been a contender, but then again, maybe he simply isn’t good enough. And Trent was a better defender than many of the naysayers made out. A bit unorthodox perhaps but not the clown some portrayed him as.

As for Endo and the others, I’m sure AI is looking for a better balance in the squad than we have now but with so many leaders exiting the squad in the last couple of seasons, that’s at least as important as the HG issue, if not more so.

I think Araujo fits the profile of players that AI wants more than someone like Konsa, for example. He may be HG, but he’s never struck me as a leader/organiser. And we are a bit short in that front already.

To be clear, we're talking about the same Frimpong that was so good for Leverkusen?
I understand there is a difference between the league's style-wise, but you could say the same for Wirtz, who also struggled physically.
JF didn't fit Slot's system; fair enough, but I think AI could enjoy him; if he improves his tackling, he'd be a superb presser.

Also, £50M for Doue... Same people who are scathing us for the £45M option on a much more established Araujo.
We don't need Doue... but money keeps mysteriously appearing... and positions we don't need it in.

Can't believe Frimpong is getting criticism.
He was injured, played in numerous positions, and more importantly, Slot was the manager.
And no player stood out last year for LFC.
So all players should get criticism, not just Frimpong.

Frimpong was badly affected by the defensive setup under Slot, as there was a lack of cover and he ended up being repeatedly exposed when going forward (nullifying his natural strength).

If he's going to succeed under AI, he needs to be used as an overlapping winger in attack and have a defensive system that is set up to cover for him when he pushes forward.

Probably the same for Kerkez as well, to be fair, which is why it's a bit surprising we went for both without an out and out CDM in place. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm trusting AI to figure this out and get the best out of him.

Don't judge him on last season. If you do, then the whole squad needs going except Szob. Injuries? Ok, we'll get rid of Ali as well then. He might be rubbish, he might turn it round, but he deserves a chance to put it right.

I think Frimpong has earned a little bit more respect than some of the posts here. He earned spots in the Bundesliga Team of the Season in 2022-23 and 2023-24. He has shown that he is a quality player, if used right in a team. Let's see if Iraola can find Jeremy's way.

One of my best mates lives in Tokyo and works as a sports therapist.

Says that the buzz around the Tokyo sports massage crew - which is apparently worse for gossip than a sewing circle - is that Endo is leaving Liverpool and they are making serious enquiries about Takefusa Kubo?

Don't know the player myself, heard any rumours or if Liverpool would have an interest but maybe it's something commercial if its being telegraphed this much overseas?

The Endo news seems to be supported from other sources over the last few days, but I think the Kubo news is a bit out of date.

I think you 'knead' to go back to your sources and suggest their news is shiatsu.

Kubo would be fun as a bonus signing, a bit like Mitoma would be. The problem is, we have too much important first team work to do first.

Kubo gone off the boil a bit last season, but he's a good player and worth a shout at the right price.

Kubo is not moving to Liverpool, and nor are we making enquiries about him.

Endo out and a new starting DM in would be amazing. A new DM brings out the best of either Mac or Szobo beside him.

Hope we string PSG along with interest in Barcola. Keep accumulating players and on the last day a cheeky £50mil or leave it.
