Heitinga sacked by Ajax lads. Will we get him back?
06 Nov 2025 16:20:09
I hope we do.

We aren't just going to shove GVB out of the door so the question would be where would he fit and would he be happy?

I'm pretty sure Klopp had 2 assistant managers at Liverpool, Ljinders and Krawietz, so it wouldn't be out of the realms of possibility for Slot to do likewise.
I'm pretty sure Heitinga's agent also told him to stay at Liverpool and not jump at the chance to manage Ajax, but Heitinga went against him. Understandable, but hindsight might suggest he should have stayed to continue his development.
Heitinga has also had some seriously embarrassing moments recently, such as bringing on a substitute, Raul Moro, who was not told where he was to play, to the point Raul had an argument with his teammate who was playing in his preferred position, only for the opposition to score at the same time this was happening. Heitinga even admittted he was at fault for that, as he forgot to tell Raul what position he was playing, in the heat of the moment it apparently escaped him and his coaching staff. Which is a first, I reckon.

Shipley, I don't see why not if he's been part of the problem and there's an upgrade available. Managers get sacked with their backroom staff so why not just one assistant?

Get him back. He’s a Champion and knows how to win the league helping coach this Team.

Wasnt Heitinga partly responsible for the poor form post-PSG last season? The form that most people say we have carried into this season until two matches ago?
Maybe we should see if we have turned a corner in performances before changing coaches so quickly.

How are we ever going to know if Heitinge was responsible for our poor form post-PSG.

If Slot wants him back then, that's fine. Klopp did take Lijnders back after he got dismissed from the managerial job he took when he left the staff.

He wanted to leave. He left. End of story.

It's amazing how bradley went from not good enough in poor overall team performances to "wow he's going to be some player".
Batman never doubted the young man. Confidence is key for any player to play well and also playing in a way that gets the best out of players.
Sobosli is rumoured to become the next captain after virg but conors a dark horse for the captaincy in the future. Didn't want to say it when he was getting slated but the young man has something about him.
06 Nov 2025 15:21:12
His main challenge is avoiding injuries. If he can stay fit, he’s got the potential to be a top player. But at his age, he needs continuous development otherwise, he’ll fade into being just another average player. It’s still early days though.

Let’s see if he can have another good game at the Etihad on Sunday and string a run of good games together.
That’s when I can consider him to be improving and learning.

Bradley had maybe his best game for Liverpool midweek and here's hoping it does his confidence the world of good and he kicks on. But it's ok to criticize the manager the team and the players when they are not performing just as we praise them when they are playing well.

I love the kid think he’s brilliant obviously he needs to be consistent and have tactics that suit him.

Connor now has to realise he plays like Connor Bradley and not try to be the next TAA or an inverted right back (whatever that modern tripe is), just play like a simple normal right back.
Play forward when you can (no sideways passes putting ye centre backs and midfielders under pressure, play forward down the line, and more importantly stop the crosses, and support the man in front of him Dominic and MO.
At least 50% of the goals we have conceded have been crossed from our right back position, begging the question were is the right back, because he thinks he's the new TAA and not the next Connor Bradley.

Well he’s going to have his hands full with doku on the weekend so that will be another good test for him.
Agree2
06 Nov 2025 19:18:19
That was the best right back performance we’ve seen in a long time, probably no coincidence Mo and Konate played well as well. There’s no doubting his talent, he just needs the right tactics and team around him to thrive.
Agree2
06 Nov 2025 22:13:11
If Bradley is inverting it’s because he’s being asked to do so, he isn’t just winging it.
Agree2
07 Nov 2025 01:45:34
Slot plays with both fullbacks inverted and inside the winger. It's not Bradley just trying to Trent. He also doesn't float into CM like Trent did, because you could with Trent's skillset.

I wonder if Kerkez would have also excelled had he played in that match when the defense, midfield and attackers all lifted their game, helped each other and put a proper effort in?
As it stands he still seems to be getting a whipping even though 9 or 10 players (barring Szob who's been immense all season) improved drastically from being whipped only a couple of games ago.

I think Bradley like Macca, weren't playing well cos they simply weren't fit to start the season. Neither had a preseason due to their injuries and Slot for some reason, was trying to play them into form at the start of the season, for the poor performances we were seeing. That was never ideal.
Bradley was off the pace hence, he kept getting yellow cards cos he seemed to be a split second late in his interventions. That happens when you are forcing things cos again he wasn't fully fit yet. Same for Macca.
Now cos he and Macca are getting fitter and stronger, they are now playing well cos they are getting their legs underneath them so their ability is starting to show. IMO, this ain't complicated.

I’ve just read an article about Marc Guehi and where he will end up. I don’t think it makes sense to sign him in January. In my opinion we need two more CBs and maybe even three in the next 18 months or so. For different reasons it does not seem like Gomez, Konate or VVD will be here too much longer.
The idea of spending £15-20m on Guehi in January does not make sense when the money could go towards another CB. The club may see losing Konate for free in the summer and getting Guehi for free as OK business wise. We may sign another CB in January but I don’t think it will be Guehi.
06 Nov 2025 16:55:05
Bastoni in Jan, Guehi in the summer?
Agree3
06 Nov 2025 17:17:22
We are probably 1 CB injury from having a mini crisis particularly if Virgil was injured. 15-20m in Jan to shore us up can be made back by a run in the CL.
I don't understand how spending the money on Guehi doesn't make sense but spending on another CB does? I don't know much about Guehi but I do know a good CB in Jan or the summer will cost a lot more than 15-20m. So why not sign Guehi for 20m or so in Jan if he's a good fit? I think your logic is losing Konate for free so Guehi on a free evens things out?
Agree5
06 Nov 2025 18:00:11
Why would Guehi, who never pushed for a move all summer, be willing to give up a considerable signing on bonus to join us in January? Especially if palace are still in Europe.
I can't see us paying £20m on top of matching his potential signing on bonus for the sake of 5 months. If we sign a CB in January, it will most likely be a young player or experienced cover.
Agree2
06 Nov 2025 18:17:37
Bastoni would be awesome signing. Not going to happen unfortunately.

RF69 - we cannot control what happens with Konate as his contract is up and it is his decision. We need more than one CB in the next year and if we have money earmarked for it say £50m, then spending £20m on Guehi in January means there will be only £30m left in the summer for the other CB. Alternatively, we have up to £50m in January for another CB and get Guehi for free in the summer.
Very basic and crude figures being used to illustrate the point.

RP mate I would say that not all players are equally motivated by money.
So bring in someone for what 10-15m as a "stop gap" or (risky) prospect and potentially miss out on the later and more lucrative CL stages and maybe finish lower down the league. I'd rather the club pay 15-20m and a bonus of 10-15 to the player they know they want and make another 30m by getting to the CL last 8.
Agree0
06 Nov 2025 20:03:21
KD, working with your numbers, a run in the CL to the latter stages will make up more than the 20m so we're back to 50. We can let Konate go, Guehi pays for himself and we still have 50m for a new defender! It's win-win my friend 🤣.
We've been here before and seen our season implode. We don't need a CB in Jan we need the right CB. We've been stuck loaning out CBs that we can't sell and paying their contracts for years.
Agree0
06 Nov 2025 20:09:07
And for illustrative purposes only, we made 54m in the CL last season. PSG 105m. That's a "free player. "

06 Nov 2025 20:21:48
Why would palace sell guehi in Jan for 15-20m? A good shout of winning conference league, well placed in prem league and could give cups a rattle as well. Makes no sense financially or from a footballing angle for them to sell in Jan now with position they in.

06 Nov 2025 20:40:04
Digger, I would say the conversation is about what's right for the player and for LFC, not CP.
But to your point, the winners of the ECL can make 19m euro for a "flawless run"; I assume that means if you win every game. There are bonuses too so potentially 25m euro.
I would argue Palace would have to go all the way and win it to justify allowing Guehi to leave on a free.
But as you say, there are a lot of footballing reasons for the club to want him to stay.
Agree0
06 Nov 2025 20:43:46
This all depends on what Palace promised him after blocking his move in the summer. To appease him they might have asked him to give them until January promising him the move.
My guess is he’s already agreed to join us in January and it was agreed as soon as the deal was pulled. That’s just me reading between the lines though I could be wrong.

What a player, and an even better person!
I had the pleasure of meeting him once, a true gentleman with a fantastic sense of humour.

Interesting to hear Soboszlai say about keeping back to back clean sheets that they have been using a 5 second rule to get back behind the ball, simple and effective. Lose possession and your mentally thinking i've got 5 seconds to get back.
06 Nov 2025 13:48:29
@Ernest indeed, that was the rule they were using last season already cos Slot mentioned something to that effect in the interview he had with Gary Lineker that aired during last season when we were to everyone's surprise, top of the table.

Off grid in Indonesia the past week. Logged back on to nervously watch replays of the villa and Madrid games. My wife left me to it and headed off to yoga, hoplping I wouldn't be drowning my sorrows at the beach bar when she returned.
What a difference a week makes. I'd suggest that's the best display of Slot's tenure.
Not because it's the best footy we've played, but the pressure on the team coming up against a very in form Madrid was huge. There were plenty on here suggesting we could get nothing out of villa, Madrid and city.
2 down, one to go.

Intel, you have no idea. I've fallen into a Zen period. Sold lots of bitcoin that I bought 13 years ago and have just retired at 52. Poor internet is the least of my worries, but you can't take the Liverpool out of a scouser and I'd give it all away to see us put 2 massive fingers up to all the doubters at the moment.
Sorry, that's not true, I'd give up maybe 25%, any more would involve a divorce.
