Slot leaves end of season. XA takes over if needed. Check your fridges.

Slot Cannot Be the Only One Blamed

05 Apr 2026 11:14:25
{Ed's Note - LFC-S MANGO has posted a new article entitled, Slot Cannot Be the Only One Blamed

2

05 Apr 2026 11:44:10
Yet Slot is picking the exact same players every single game, so he seems to be quite happy with them giving the minimum.
Kerkez is the only regular that deserves a start.

05 Apr 2026 12:45:07
Mango you try playing for an incompetent fool who makes baffling decisions week in week out for 7 months and see what that does to your drive.

22 losses in the last 12 months, it's actually insane he's still in a job, I'm surprised the players aren't picketing up and down Anfield road.

05 Apr 2026 13:07:26
Managers/coaches have always paid the price when results have been bad, and for Liverpool standards ours have been pretty horrific.

1

05 Apr 2026 13:31:41
The players have to take some of the blame, but this all started towards the end of last season, when tactics were getting changed, so make up your own mind.

Absolute nonsense. Stick to your day job. Slot is the problem.

I think I need a new hobby.

Because these Liverpool games just ruin my weekends or weeks - I think the feeling of fans goes beyond wins or losses. It’s just I don’t think anyone can see the light or feels good about just the way they play.

I honestly don’t know what’s going on at LFC but “decisive actions” isn’t part of the way they work, it seems.

05 Apr 2026 11:21:05
Totally agree, mate. The watching of Liverpool is killing me. We've been spoilt with Klopp unfortunately.

5

05 Apr 2026 11:31:06
There is life after LFC. Go for walk, hug your kids, kick the dog.

2

05 Apr 2026 12:06:07
Please don't kick the dog.

6

05 Apr 2026 12:13:08
Kaiser, don't say that. You could get pelters by the "You must watching us regardless" brigade roaming this forum.

As if one's whole life should solely revolve around watching LFC games and nothing else. No hobbies. No leisure. Nothing.

1

05 Apr 2026 13:37:15
I won't be watching next year if Slot's still around. Not fussed about the rest of this season either.

Morning Ed's and reds.
Ed001 have you got wish list for the successor to Richard Hughes? Who's out there that's attainable and be a good fit for us?

No problem ed001. Appreciate the reply

I think it will end up being Alonso and I will of course support that and see the reasoning.

I still think my realistic choice (first choices being Enrique/Klopp return) is Iraola.

Doesn't get mentioned enough on the conversation in my opinion. He would be my choice.

Prem experience.
Worked through tough times and came out other side.

Has had created multiple star players.
Every time he starts building something, team gets ripped apart.
I'd love it if we were the ones that would give him the chance to build something and not rip it apart when it's coming to fruition.
Plus he plays a very exciting brand of football that I think would be really successful with the right players.

2

05 Apr 2026 11:20:57
Back end of last year, before Alonso got sacked, I did mention him as an ideal successor. I think Carra did say he was well liked by Hughes and Co.

0

05 Apr 2026 11:22:01
Didn't someone itk post that he going to Utd?

0

05 Apr 2026 11:26:18
Iraola needs one more job before he's ready for a top club. He will need to demonstrate how he can deal with more than 50% of games being against low blocks. And, ideally, needs to win something too.

The leap to Liverpool would be too big in one step imo.

0

05 Apr 2026 11:58:38
My pick is Enrique.

Think we need experience alongside the energy he'd bring.

0

https://liverpool-rumours.co.uk/uploads/thumb_Ed001.png avatar{Ed001's Note - I don't believe there to be any chance in hell of getting him right now, otherwise I think he would be just about everyone's first pick.}

4

05 Apr 2026 12:16:02
Enrique has always been a pipe dream.

As for Iraola, I fully agree with Pelican. Iraola should go get some exp. at a big club. Handle all that pressure to win, win, and then come back stronger.

With more pedigree than just "I play good football and can keep Bournemouth up in the PL".

0

05 Apr 2026 12:59:22
Iraola has little more than a few gold stars to his name whilst Xabi took Leverkusen from 17th place to a domestic double and a record 51 game unbeaten streak. Come on, let's get real here, it's a one horse race.

No disrespect to Iraola, he has done very well with lesser teams and had some big wins against some of the giants of football along the way but we're not a lesser team, we're not looking to just climb a few mid-table places, and if we don't snap up Alonso now, somebody else will.

06 Apr 2026 12:20:57
ed1 - no doubt, just think we need experience of an older head along with the style and charisma.

05 Apr 2026 10:22:56
This is a genuine question to eds1 and everyone else. Is VVD finished cuz he has been truly awful this season making basic mistakes and at times I'd say bad attitude ie blaming other players.

I do love him but if when a new manager comes in I really do hope he picks a new captain. I know playing next to Konate isn't going to be easy but he's not even doing the basics?

2

https://liverpool-rumours.co.uk/uploads/thumb_Ed001.png avatar{Ed001's Note - yes, he looks done. His attitude has stunk, sniping at critics rather than working on his game.}

11

05 Apr 2026 10:59:49
Reserve judgment until we get a real manager in.

2

05 Apr 2026 11:02:09
In times like this we need a real captain and leader on the pitch. VVD has shown he's not a good enough captain to get us through bad times. Nowhere near the level Hendo or Gerrard were.

6

05 Apr 2026 12:22:47
Im with you, Frode. This is not the best season to fully judge not just VVD (I agree, he has been poor) but all the players esp. the new ones.

They have checked out because the manager has checked out to the point of being a part timer, as Ed01 says. Remember, we all thought some players like Bobbie, Hendo, Lallana (even Milner & Origi) weren't good enuff under a waister/spoofer like BR.

Only for Klopp to come in and make these same players (even Origi and definitely Milner) as the foundations on which the greatest LFC in the PL era was built on. Just saying.

1

05 Apr 2026 12:59:43
Hendo was a great captain, but people saying that he got us through bad times is just revisionism at this point. From what I can recall, we had two bad seasons under Klopp: the 20-21 and 22-23.
In 20-21, we were in a rut until Klopp finally decided to play with midfielders in midfield and defenders in defence. Also, the last 10 games, when we won 26 points to waltz into the CL places, was because of Trent rediscovering form (after the first poor phase of his career), and Thiago really getting a regular run after injuries. From what I remember, in fact, Gini, Hendo, Milner, used to rotate around Thiago and Fabinho in that run.

In 22-23, we were generally not great throughout the season. Hendo and Fabinho were among the poorest players that season. And our revival in 23-24 happened without Hendo at the club.
So I can see why people are blaming VVD because of his performances, but to claim he is a bad leader while Hendo was a great one, is mostly borne out of frustration. Everyone in the squad calls VVD a leader, and nobody had any complaints when we were winning last year. The argument that he is not a good leader for bad times can only be verified when we actually turn the tide. Also, having played 4000+ mins when he is about to turn 35 can't help.

Did anyone go to the game yesterday, mate of mine said all our fans was chanting for Xabi Alonso when exiting?

05 Apr 2026 10:44:30
OP, It's prolly true cos that was all over the internet after the game.

3

05 Apr 2026 10:59:48
Didn't hear it as I left as soon as the third went in.
It was happening though as the fans left the stadium.

Putting aside the front to back shambles that Slot is now presiding over, Salah's decline is astonishing. Personally I would have him out of the team for the rest of the season, maybe try him off the bench a few times and, dependent on circumstances and if there is anything at stake, give him the last home match. I can't recall a top tier player having such a huge and immediate drop off; usually it's gradual decline - maybe they lose one aspect first like pace but still have the quality on the ball, or the vision or the finishing. Salah has lost the lot all at once. It's painful and sad to watch, and obviously also very frustrating.

I guess his head is elsewhere now, probably has been for a long time. We don't know how the
loss of Jota affected him; he seemed to be hit harder than most by it. Shame it's ending like this. Easy to say now but would have been better if he'd left as a title winning hero at the end of last season and we'd kept Diaz.

We were singing the best midfield in the world song which included Gerrard, Mashcerano and Sissoko.

1

05 Apr 2026 11:28:48
Tbf, did anyone in our starting line-up deserve to be there in the first place? Every single one of them deserves to be dropped, but then again, we have no one else who can come in to take their place. Our entire team stinks, and when that happens, we should be looking at the coaches as the cause.

3

05 Apr 2026 12:01:18
Regards Mo, he's always played like this. Well, except for the scoring part.

At least since the 2020/21 season, I've marvelled at how average he can look as a footballer, yet how amazing he is at taking the goal scoring opportunities that came his way.

Absolute legend.

When pretty much the whole squad stinks bar a couple of players, it means there's more than meets the eye.

Players are normal people in a job. Yes, a mighty cool job with obscenely high wages, but they're just like us in a way...

People are highly affected by their bosses and work environment. We've all had a s****y boss that created a toxic environment at work. Your performance drops.

You become indifferent and, over time, start caring less about the quality of what you do. You can't wait for the days to be over etc...

Salah, and the rest of the team, right now, have not just one but 3 absolute s**** bosses in Slot, Edwards and Hughes who have totally destroyed us.

You can tell by how quickly the winning mentality of this squad was completely gone.

1

05 Apr 2026 10:11:29
Don't think enough has been said about Szobozlai's actions at the end of the game.

His arrogance is becoming a problem. After that, he would be the first out of the club for me.

Fans give up a lot to attend these games, and after that performance, and many this season, he had no right to do that.

Take away a few free kicks, he's a bang average player.

3

05 Apr 2026 10:41:23
I actually don't have a problem with the fans who voted with their feet yesterday. Of course, we usually support the team until the death and, as we know better than any club, even at 3-0 it's not over, but that was so limp and pathetic yesterday that the team deserved to be left there with no support.

And I certainly wouldn't be giving out to the fans about it if I was one of the team who have been serving up such dross week in week out. Give us a bit more sign that you care on the pitch during 90 minutes, then the fans will be right behind you even when we lose.

3

05 Apr 2026 10:46:35
He has carried this team all season, mate. I was up there clapping the team. He needs help from the others, on the pitch, but he knows they are playing below the levels required to win at the Ethiad. He took it personal. He probably thinks the fans leaving was a dig at the whole team. I have only left early once, when my wife called to say her father had been rushed to hospital and he died hours later.

But everyone is entitled to support them the way fit. I have no problem with the crowd leaving early. I clap the badge, not the player.
Unfortunately some are just not worthy of wearing that badge anymore.

05 Apr 2026 10:54:41
SPECIAL K yes he shouldn't have done it but clearly you know nothing about football he's been our best player or season he's ran his socks off he's been messed around playing him at right back when at times we have had 2 right backs on bench so ye he made a mistake but good god supporters like you who needs them🤔

Other than Alison, Robbo, Bradley and probably Kerkez (not including the kids), I’d put prices on all their heads. Let them go. This season, too many have got too big for the boots. Szob is the biggest culprit for me. All walking round like they own the gaff because they are the champions. None of them look like they want to put the graft in; they’re riding the train instead of pushing it, as Klopp would say. All overseen by a weak manager and clueless dof. Money is not going to fix this. Bring in any player you like, they will drop to the level we are at, not pull the rest up.

We need a strong headmaster at the helm, someone who will bomb out those taking the p*ss. Is Alonso that man? I don’t know. I’m not harping on about Klopp, but if you was playing crap or injured, he had no problem dropping you for the kids. I’d have them all in tomorrow, give p45 to Slot and Hughes, make Mo or Robbo player-manager til end of season (if you don’t want to hire Stevie etc). What’s the worst that can happen, we miss out on everything? Let’s put the cat amongst the pigeons.

I think people need to step back and take a breath.

There is a lot of emotion out there and people are getting overly irrational.
