I wasn't even sold on vvd, now I'm gutted we have done what we have. All these reports of we have agreed terms but not a fee. Question though, Could legal action still be taken?

Fencey

{Ed025's Note - possible but unlikely i would say fencey..

1.) 07 Jun 2017 21:31:02
If the EPL have accepted Liverpool's apology then that will be it.

Southampton not going to bother with us now when they have won the battle hands down. Doubt they will allow us to sign players from them again i. e. Fulham/ Dempsey.

Other clubs will be looking at this situation with eyes wide open.

At this point I am expecting a disappointing summer. Clubs not going to bother with our haggling anymore. We have shown our true colours now.

{Ed025's Note - come on max you know better than that mate..

2.) 07 Jun 2017 21:43:28
The fact we've apologised, I think has stopped the PL from taking it further!

3.) 07 Jun 2017 23:36:28
Eds, and please don't shoot me down as i am not making excuses, i just don't understand the severity of all this tapping stuff.

Listening to Steve Nicol today, and i am not saying he is right, and yes the rules are different now. but he was almost suggesting its all a big fuss over nothing and that if agents were not around clubs would and actually do this all the time.

{Ed002's Note - It is a very serious matter. Would you not consider it an issue if Liverpool were banned from signing first team players for a year or two? They are already dealing with one transfer ban, a damaged reputation and clubs who don't want to do business with them - not an issue at all?}

4.) 08 Jun 2017 02:13:28
Ed, why does tapping up law in football exist, when in normal life and normal business, it goes on legally? Just asking, although I think we've been idiots yet again and heads need to roll, as it is law in football.

{Ed001's Note - it is not legal in normal business.}

5.) 08 Jun 2017 06:00:39
Exactly Ed001. I work for a publishing house and under contract am not allowed to speak to another publishing house without permission. If it was done in secret my company would be well miffed with both me and the competitor.

{Ed001's Note - I know a number of people who have been 'tapped up' by other companies with various consequences. It is the same in all walks of life, if you are high enough up the food chain to matter to the company who employs you.}

6.) 08 Jun 2017 13:14:50
Is it down to whether an employee is on a set contract or not, as my wife in the past has been head hunted before a few times, when agents for the new company have contacted her, had the interview and either offered the job or not, without her present (att) company knowing anything about it happening! Do all these head hunters break the law then? Sorry Eds, I know you're all skied under this morning, which I fully appreciate, just wanted to know! I also appreciate it's law in football and if broken, you should take the penalty!

{Ed001's Note - it really depends on the job, as I said it usually comes down to how far up the food chain you are but a head hunter is, in essence, the same as an agent. Clubs/companies can speak to the agent/headhunter, but not the player/employee direct.}

7.) 08 Jun 2017 03:26:50
If English clubs do it all the time, why would only Liverpool get punished though. Other clubs (City was mentioned) did the same things as Liverpool as far as the Stoke youngster goes too. Are Liverpool the only club dumb enough to get caught? I don't get why they're the only ones getting called out on it when it's happening at every club.

{Ed002's Note - English clubs don't "do it all of the time" and Manchester City has also been sanctioned for making an illegal approach to youngsters. Liverpool's behaviour has been terrible for years - far worse than any other club. The embarrassing attempts by some of the fans to deflect this is indeed laughable. In terms of youngsters, what Liverpool did to the kid from from Stoke is certainly the worst ever behaviour I have ever encountered and it should go to court and it should be out in the public domain quite how foul the club is and the damage they have done.}

8.) 09 Jun 2017 13:24:54
These clauses in employment contracts are notoriously difficult to enforce as it can be ruled as being a restriction of trade. I know that I've experienced issues trying to enforce one when an employee has left to go to a competitor. Has a club / player ever tried to challenge it on these grounds?

Hi eds, you said we have looked at Keita from Rbl, do you think he will be keen to leave

Fencey

{Ed002's Note - I understand from an Arsenal scout that the club will look to make an offer to RBL for Naby Keita in the summer. He has been looked at by Arsenal on several occasions these past two seasons with interest also being shown by PSG and Dortmund with the prior interest of Bayern Munich waning although not ruled out. There has been no interest shown by Liverpool at all according to RBL but I am aware that rumours persist.

He will want to see what his options are before deciding.}

1.) 16 Apr 2017 15:49:22
Thanks ed, seems unlikely with the names mentioned and the fact Rbl have champions league, he may want to stay.

Reports saying Klopp is willing to wait for next season to sign chilwell. Guess we'll have to pay a tribunal fee anyway, I would rather we pay the extra and have him for this season too.

Fencey

{Ed002's Note - It would open up the interest of another EPL side in him again.}

1.) 16 Jul 2016 13:31:05
Ed, I think that other epl side may be arsenal. Feel free to correct mw if i'm wrong.

{Ed002's Note - There is no secret about their interest which was dropped when Liverpool were expected to sign him.}

2.) 18 Jul 2016 13:06:28
Sorry to ask is answered but can't find it - is the wait til next season because of injury or money or both?

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool don't want to pay the money.}

Rumours that Sturridge is going to be left out of the England squad. While I'll be gutted for him, from a liverpool point of view it won't be the worst thing. I think he needs to stay active to keep his muscles working but a few weeks off; whilst not injured, will do him good.

Fencey

1.) 31 May 2016 03:34:01
How could he have progressed when his LFC career has been blighted by injuries? Your post is quite harsh on the boy.

2.) 31 May 2016 08:02:26
Did I say he hasn't progressed?

3.) 31 May 2016 08:04:17
Which post? What was harsh?

4.) 31 May 2016 08:33:50
I think redohio was replying to the post above about yesil.

5.) 31 May 2016 13:53:53
His progression harsh or otherwise is not to be singled out via these kind of comments.

Just looking at the city game, only sterling, zinchenko and Ederson started vs us. Still put out an unbelievable squad. Our 11 and 3 subs can more than match them, but comparing, it seems we are still short in attacking quality to rotate. You can’t really say they lose much swapping sterling and sane or mahrez and Bernardo. Even Jesus is a decent forward as back up for aguero.
In the summer probably I think we need a versatile forward that has the quality to push the front three and rotate seemlessly.
Still think we need a full back, especially now Clyne has gone. Looking at tomorrow I do think we drop greatly in quality if we want to rest the front three, Robertson vvd and Trent.

Fencey

1.) 06 Jan 2019 20:50:12
Fencey, Jesus is a poor player and would not want him anywhere near Anfield. Pep is not that fond of Aguero cos he does not press nor track back BUT he scores for fun and that is why Jesus will never play ahead of him even tho Pep brought him in to usurp him at some point, IMO. As for their lineup, KDB, Gundogan, Otamendi and Mahrez all played. That is the same as saying Matip, Keita, Fabinho/ Hendo, Studge, Shaq played played for us tmrw. So both teams are well matched up there. You also failed to recognize that City played Rotherham while we play Wolves. Not sure Pep would have done what he did vs Wolves esp. knowing all the probs Wolves caused them this season.

As for who we need, we know we need help at both FB positions and maybe another forward BUT that's about it. As for the team for tmrw, the players I mentioned yesterday alongside Moreno and Migs would proly all start with Studge at CF. We will se what happens. And for me, we should stop comparing ourselves to City cos regardless of how good they are, we are MORE than a match for them and their manager knows it cos he says it all the time.

2.) 07 Jan 2019 00:26:47
Zinchenko?

Hi Reds, this is not really Liverpool related, but just interested in opinions.
As Messi and Ronaldo are coming to the end, or pushing the latter end of the career anyway, who do you see as the next ballon D'Or winners?
Suarez is the next best for me, but he's the same age.
If Bale can stay fit maybe him, but in 2/ 3 years time he might be declining too, I don't see Neymar getting it at PSG to be honest.

So, who will win the next Ballon D'Or that is not Ronaldo or Messi?

Fencey

{Ed001's Note - Mbappe.}

1.) 08 Aug 2017 09:34:39
Neymar.

2.) 08 Aug 2017 09:40:32
Great question, I always thought Bale would fill Ronaldos shoes once he stepped aside but injuries are really stalling his career, Neymar would have been my next call but going to France won't help unless PSG win the champs league (certainly a possibilty) .
I would say that a Barcelona or Real player has the best chance as they are the biggest clubs in the world and will be at the business end of the champs league. Maybe it will be someone who hasn't signed for them, Madrid maybe Mbappe and Barcelona maybe Dybala?

3.) 08 Aug 2017 10:23:40
Obviously it would depend on how their respective teams do but I think Alli, Kane, Mbappe, Dembele, Dybala are all ones to watch for the future but I would say Neymar is next. I don't think Alli or Kane will win it whilst at Spurs but if they got a move they could well be in with a shout.

4.) 08 Aug 2017 10:48:18
Marco Asensio.

5.) 08 Aug 2017 11:03:06
I also wonder who is the next 25 goal a season player consistently like the mentioned two have done!

6.) 08 Aug 2017 11:33:43
Oxlade Chamberlain for sure. Why else do u think Klopp wants him?

7.) 08 Aug 2017 11:37:49
mbappe

8.) 08 Aug 2017 11:46:57
Carrasco, Kante, Alli, Coutinho, Neymar and possibly De Bruyne. To be honest though, Messi and Ronaldo are nowhere near finished yet.

Mbappe maybe in 4 or 5 years if he keeps his focus. He's only 18 and things can change rapidly at that stage of your career.

07 Aug 2017 23:06:13
I'm not one for random names and it's not really realistic, but I wonder what it would take to get delli alli? One of few players I can think of to replace couts, and we could have 120 million.

Fencey

1.) 07 Aug 2017 23:22:12
Spurs won't sell and they certainly would ask for more for Alli than £120m, plus if there was any sniff they were selling United, City or Chelsea would just blow us out the water.

2.) 07 Aug 2017 23:23:05
Spurs won't sell him.

3.) 07 Aug 2017 23:34:57
I just had a weird feeling allis head might turn, plus levy is not one to shy away from the big deals.

4.) 07 Aug 2017 23:52:15
That money can be use on bale for them 😉.

5.) 08 Aug 2017 00:13:27
Im not sold on Alli. Sometimes he looks an absolute world beater, and other times he looks like he has no right to be a professional footballer. He does fundamentally score/ assist well. Bit like Ozil though, I don't think stats show the true picture.

6.) 08 Aug 2017 00:22:57
He's nothing like ozil, he works hard - he problem is his temperament. As long as he's not going out to hurt anyone, I'd rather he show a bit of fire than disappear like ozil.

7.) 08 Aug 2017 03:55:09
Alli is a decent player but he is no playmaker.

8.) 08 Aug 2017 07:08:14
I didn't mean that he was a similar player to ozil. Just that stats show the 2 of them to be better players than they actually are.

{Ed001's Note - I think people must have different ideas of what a good player is. Oezil is excellent and works a lot harder than he is ever given credit for. Alli is excellent and a real genuine talent.}

9.) 08 Aug 2017 16:20:38
In terms of play, influence on game and indeed temperament, Alli is very similar to Gerrard at a similar age, IMO. He does play a bit further up the field, but he can also take a game by the scruff of the neck, and is a bit overly aggressive at times as Stevie was prone to, especially early on in his career.

I still rue the fact we couldn't do a deal for him.

06 Aug 2017 23:45:24
My opinion is that the media know Barcelona want coutinho and they normally get their man - they are just putting two and two together and hoping to come out looking like they know - they may be right, but it's just guess work.

Fencey

1.) 07 Aug 2017 01:10:00
Think Coutinho's gone now mate. Klopp maybe agreed to let him move on once he realised Barcelona were willing to put up good money to make the move happen. What's the point of keeping a player who will eventually move on next season after you have built your team around him? Another rebuilding job?
Better to take 100 million now and sign a CB and a Coutinho replacement who will be at LFC for the long run. My choices would be Manolas and Kovacic but Klopp sees VVD/ nobody and Meyer as adequate replacements.

2.) 07 Aug 2017 04:17:40
Or you could keep Countinho for a year, let the new players bed in and then sell him. That way you have 12 months to find a replacement whilst reducing the impact on the team of him leaving. If he is professional enough to give you 100% for the next 12 months then what do you lose?

He hasn’t had a run of games due to injuries and what not, he’s still finding his feet. He shows glimpses of class but need to release quicker and move. I’m sure Klopp is working with him. As we have said before, he doesn’t really fit it with the two 6’s, and a number ten, as at the moment, it’s salah up top with bobby in the hole when we play that way. Maybe Salah can go wider and Keita play a deeper ten, but I think it would crowd the middle.

I think he’s be ideally suited to maybe him and Milner/ ox either side of a hendo or Fabinho, when ox is fit for now. Otherwise, it’s hard to see him in a two man midfield.

I personally think if we played the so called lesser teams at home, we can afford just one sittting, Keita box to box and the four forwards, and not struggle defensively, but it may be a risk not worth taking, when currently it is workin so well.

If that were remotely true we would have to offload Sturridge Origi and Lallana to even try and balance the wages.

I’m not saying we are going to get brandt, but why do we have to sell to buy? City have mahrez aguero sterling Jesus sane and silva who all play in the front three positions. We have salah mane Firmino Shaqiri and Sturridge who are first team. When city signed mahrez we didn’t say well who is leaving then? Shaqiri plays in the middle a lot anyway, we don’t have natural pace as an option on the wing, if mane and salah wasn’t available.

Vardy works well on the counter, plus when he smashes is, he usually hits the target. In fairness to him, hitting a moving ball first time, he’s quite good at it. Vardy wouldn’t work well in our team though, he’d probably get a few goals, but couldn’t cover wide and play in our style, like Someone like Werner could. Again not saying him, but there’s got to be som talented players out there with some guild and tact, as will as some pace, who can play wide or through the middle.

I don’t actually want Werner, I think he’s overrated, but I think we need someone of his supposed quality to rotate seemlessly. As mentioned before city have sane mahrez and sterling, only two of whom can play really, and they manage. We need the same quality in depth.

We’ve heard Migs and Moreno. Don’t see the point in not playin Alisson, we did it for the league cup and got knocked out. Keita hasn’t had much football, Fabinho didn’t start against city, Sturridge needs a game and Shaqiri will probs play too. There’s some good players there. Have we any wide players who could play left wing if Sturridge starts with Shaqiri on the right? Assuming mane is to be rested?

I have no idea what’s gone on, but if Clyne changed his mind, how can that be our fault! I guess don’t make the agreement in principle, but maybe at the time it was the only offer.
Maybe if we can keep them sweet, we can offload some more players there for decent fees! Seem we buy from the south coast and then sell back there!
