L'Equipe claiming that Liverpool sent scouts to watch talented PSG duo, Christopher Nkunku and Lamine Ba.
Nkunku, 17, is an attacking midfielder, whilst Ba, 18, is a central defender.

Being reported that Liverpool interest in Zenit St. Petersburg striker Salomon Rondon is intensifying, and it appears that the Reds are actively trying to seal a deal worth £15 million.
Some info about 25-year old Rondon:

* 2012: Became the most expensive Venezuelan footballer in history when he signed for Rubin Khazan in a €10m deal.

* 2013: Broke the record for most goals by a Venezuelan player in La Liga.

* 2014: Cost Zenit St. Petersburg £15.8m.

* Malaga: 27 goals/7 assists in 72 apps (Goal/assist every 2 games)

* Rubin: 25 goals/3 assists in 56 apps (Goal/assist every 2 games)

* Zenit: 28 goals/8 assists in 55 apps (Goal/assist every 1.5 games)

* Totals: 80 goals/18 assists (98) 183 apps (Goal/assist every 1.8 games).
Worth a bid???

I have absolutely no idea what Rondon would bring as I haven't watched him play. Would appreciate comments from people who have seen him play (in real matches, not just YouTube!).

However, I remember one of the Eds (Ed001, I think?) saying he's not the right player for us.

So £15m may be half of what is being mooted for Benteke, but for a player who isn't right for us (based on opinion of someone I trust with these matters) and is untested in the premier league and is already 25, doesn't seem like such a great deal to me.

Happy to be proved wrong, but seems like too much of a gamble.

* 2013: Broke the record for most goals by a Venezuelan player in La Liga.

Haha, what a record to have, can't imagine much competition

3.) 15 Jul 2015 09:42:25
@op6, exactly ya. Also the calculator seems to be broken and figures rounded down when it suits.

@Slaphead, worth a bid? I would say no. Why bother with him, we need either someone clearly a step up on what we have (other than a fit Sturridge) and he's not that.

4.) 15 Jul 2015 12:22:55
Just going to say that it seems your post is based on wishful thinking and being a Rondon fan. The facts you decided to include being the main pointer here. What is the speculation more precisely?

5.) 15 Jul 2015 12:36:49
Would prefer Rondon to Benteke if I am honest

6.) 15 Jul 2015 16:52:00
benteke is better than Rondon by a country mile due to a better upside to improve as well as experience in the PL. i watched Rondon at the Copa America and was not impressed at all.

After yesterdays horror show maybe some good news, it is being reported that the club is about to complete a deal for Benfica star Eduardo Salvio according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo. Apparently Benfica's president Luis Filipe Vieira and agent Jorge Mendes flying into England for talks.
Liverpool were named as a likely destination for Salvio and O Jogo reckon those talks have been going on.
The Argentine has a £40m buyout clause but Liverpool would get him for significantly less than that. O Jogo say in their Monday edition that Salvio's exit is 'a matter of days' away and that exit will be to Liverpool.
The Benfica player injured his knee in his club's game at the weekend but that's not thought to be serious. It will keep him out of the Portuguese League Cup final but an absence of three weeks is the stated lay-off and it shouldn't halt any transfer. A note of caution for Liverpool fans would be that the Portuguese press can get a little carried so could be jumping the gun, but they were first on Lazar Markovic to Liverpool so deserve credit for that.

Cheers for the info Slaphead. It may or may not happen and I don't know if he's good enough or not. Hopefully, we strengthen effectively this time round.

2.) 25 May 2015 08:58:22
Good player, but 40 million is way too much, considering the injuries he's had. Maybe if they have halved that price.

3.) 25 May 2015 12:02:20
£40 million is too much ?
We'll probably pay 50 then.
And then have the pleasure of watching him sit on the bench or toil at right back.
The club shouldn't sign anybody until they've sorted the manager situation out.

{Ed002's Note - Just to clarify matters. Mendes has been in London and Manchester over the weekend and is now in Madrid dealing with two matters there.}

4.) 25 May 2015 15:25:57
As usual Ed002 is on the ball with the information that us mere mortals could only dream of.
Totally agree that 40 million is way to much, but we are being linked with quite a few at the moment.
This is a very important window and hope who ever is in charge gets it right.
Thanks for all the hard work Eds and looking forward to the next transfer window.

5.) 26 May 2015 10:37:12
Get Salvio in him and Markovic were elletric for
Benfica 2 season ago.

08 Aug 2014 20:58:20
We are now being linked with Lazio's Balde Keita Diao, 19 years old. Lazio have snubbed a £16m offer from the Reds - and they want £24m for Keita's services.
Any more we are linked with as this is getting ridiculous now.
We are being linked with the world and his wife.

Liverpool could be in the frame to make a shock move for Palermo striker Abel Hernandez.

According to the Mirror, Brendan Rodgers could be aiming to snatch Hernandez from under the noses of rival clubs, just like he did with Philippe Coutinho.

Uruguayan Hernandez is widely regarded as one of the best young strikers in Europe and he has netted 11 times in 17 Serie 'B'games this season.

If Rodgers were to sign Hernandez though, it would have to be for a substantial figure - eight figures at least.

Apparently an attempt for Hernandez's signature was made by Liverpool in the summer but neither club could agree on a figure.

The 23-year-old is know across Europe and South America for his pace and technical ability. He has also scored seven goals in 11 international appearances.

He has previously been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur and Fiorentina reportedly had an offer knocked back in the summer.

Slaphead

1.) If he was good enough he surely wouldn't be playing in the 2nd tier at the age of 23.

Just a thought.

2.) No wonder we couldn't reach an agreement when they want an 8 figure sum for a 'seria B' player

Hi EDs

Watching the games from start of the season i have noticed a rule that needs changing.
When playing out from the back and the 2 centre halves are either side of the box.
Keeper plays it to one of them and they are being closed down, so they deliberately touch the ball inside the box so the kick has to be retaken.
Surely this should be a free kick to the attacking side as you cannot touch the ball until outside the box?
Something that needs to be looked at i think as teams are using it to their advantage.

{Ed001's Note - very good point that.}

Message for a Mr Alison Becker.
Welcome to Liverpool.
You are being given a warm welcome with great optimism.
However this will not continue if you make a mistake.
Some Liverpool fans will want you replaced if this happens.
Muslera, De Gea, Lloris have made glaring mistakes recently but this does not mean you have to join the party.
Obviously tongue in cheek post.
Please give him time to settle in and if a mistake happens, so be it.
Feeling excited about the new season with some fantastic new additions.

Well done, Slaphead. If people think Allisson will come in here and become DDG of the past 3 seasons and/ or think he will not make his mistakes in the bedding process (like DDG and Reina did in their formative years in the PL) then, they had better not bother watching us this season cos he will make mistakes and I'm fine with that cos I live in the real world where reality is VERY harsh. Apart from that, Welcome to LFC, Mr. Becker!

2.) 20 Jul 2018 17:30:13
That was quite negatively optimistic.

3.) 20 Jul 2018 18:13:28
Gents just sit back and enjoy the ride of what this season will bring. Why worry about fans moaning prior to it even happening. Let’s just take it 1 game at a time.

4.) 20 Jul 2018 18:14:40
LFC have thrown the kitchen sink at it but I reckon we have made one of the most important signings in many a season in Alisson.

We wanted a quality GK and LFC paid the ultimate price. Let's just be happy he chose LFC.

5.) 20 Jul 2018 20:12:52
Welcome would have been enough.

Sort of a back-handed welcome🙄.

6.) 21 Jul 2018 09:54:06
Ron, and what part of what myself and the OP said, is false? You are free to welcome Alisson how you see fit. I choose to welcome him with open arm while at the same time, letting him know what to watch for.

I was saying to everyone before the game that Ramos will do a job on Salah, and sure enough. he Knew exactly what he was doing. Cannot believe how badly it affected the rest of the players though.
As for Karius.
He done roughly the same a few weeks back. Rushing to get us going that cost a goal. Do not know what he was thinking. It was 0-0 for gods sake. As for the i can't believe it's not butter keeper moment.
Bales wonder strike was worth the watch though.
Before the Game, Klopps interview, "look at their bench, wow".
A little nudge to the owners i think.
What if the Ox never got injured.
What if Salah never had to go off.
What if Mane's shot goes in off the post to make it 2-2.
All in all, a great journey this season and a pleasure to watch and be entertained.

Slaphead

1.) 27 May 2018 11:10:46
Karius should have NEVER tried to catch that ball cos it was floating in 30 diff. directions as soon as the ball left Bale's foot. He should have boxed it away into touch and at 2-1, you are still in the game. He tried to over-compensate for the first error and made a bigger mess. It's done now and we move on.

{Ed025's Note - it did swerve a bit brover but a good keeper catches that 9 times out of 10 mate..

I cannot believe what i am reading on here regarding TAA.
Some of the posters on here are always asking for the kids to be given a chance. He has been given a chance and done remarkably well.
Looking back on past posts he has been mentioned as being outstanding, what a prospect etc. Yet he made mistakes in all them games, but because we won it has not been mentioned.
Before blaming him look at the senior players that did not turn up, Lovren for one. He got bullied by Lukaku and was not dealing with the flick ons.
The OX kept giving the ball away and his decision making was awful.
TAA is still learning his trade and will make mistakes as ALL players do.
Hopefully Ryan Sessegnon does not read this page because if we are interested, why would he want to come to a club and get slaughtered when he makes a mistake.

Slaphead

1.) 11 Mar 2018 13:02:23
Thank goodness, thought it was just me.
Our 2 CBS were too busy trying to look after themselves to try and give him any belief or protection.
If your CB partner goes forward to compete for a headheader- you are taught to drop off in case he loses the flick on.
VvD- static- no movement and he could have easily intercepted before Rashford got onto the ball.

When under pressure we seem to go mute and withdraw into ourselves- that’s when you need vocal leaders pushing players into position and constantly communicating to encourage - especially younger players.

So lovren may have been bullied by Lukaku and yes Can should have shielded him more- but on both goals the gap between our CBs was enormous.

Jose could have driven his bus through.

2.) 11 Mar 2018 13:01:58
Well thank god Mourinho did not opt Martial on the left against Robertson! We have weakness and Mourinho exploited with precision!

I think his name is Simon Moses. Fast young winger. He plays in Belgian league now for Gent. I saw him also in some matches in Slovakian League. He was better than the rest. I remember also Matic and Skrtel in this league who were very good as well. But with all respect to our league it means nothing. He is young with potential but I don't see reason to buy him, it is better to keep Sterling, Ibe, Markovic and let them play. We need top class players ready into first team and give more time on the pitch for players from academy. He is good and has future but needs time and I do not think he is what we need right now.

{Ed002's Note - This is one I can help with. Gent's Moses Simon has attracted the declared interest of PSV, Apolonia Fier, Spurs, Ajax, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Fenerbahce and has apparently been watched by Viking, Liverpool, Reading, Midtjylland, Arsenal and probably others. }.

Hi Storm Lord
Academy players do have to attend school.
They link themselves in with a local school most of the time and their education is done there.
For each player they get X amount which is shared between the school and club. I did get told £5000 per player, so £2500 each but i am sure the EDs will know more.
In the past it used to be mainly B-Tech or computer based education. The clubs started to realise that many kids were either being pulled out by parents or the kids did not like the school. So they bought in A levels to keep players in their system.
There are many outside Elite coaching systems that are not associated with clubs but still have to provide an education for their scholars.
An example is AFC Wimbledon use Southfields Community College as they have the facilities to educate plus coach/ play football.
Another problem is when you finish at U16 level you then go up to U18 level, non league clubs are implementing that any player going into their U18 academy MUST attend their school. Again many players are dropping out of the club as they do not feel it is right for their education. Sutton Utd is one that does this.
There are many other options though at U18, such as normal Sunday football or if good enough a midweek league like the Bostik league.
It is a very good standard and you get plenty of scouts at these games also.
As you can see there are now plenty of options to play football and still have that plan B of a decent education as very few players actually make the grade.

{Ed001's Note - Charlton used to have their own college, but not sure if the moron who owns them now got rid of it or not.}

A great read regarding Solanke and young players in general.
Woodburn is another. Can see the boy has talent and is already an international, but has now been taken out the limelight.
Learning his trade training with the team.
Would like to see Harry Wilson added to squad for next season.
Been watching him and seems to have learned a lot this season.
The old phrase of "you never stop learning" should be drummed into them.
Loftus Cheek has also developed this season. I think the penny has dropped with him that he needed to work harder and focus.
Remember the U17 England squad that won the World Cup, and turned their shirts around so their names could be seen?
They are already in the system at their respective clubs. Scouts know who they are. To me it seemed they are impatient. Work hard, stay grounded and focused. Be willing to develop and listen, then the rest will follow.
Having said all that, a lot of young footballers suddenly think they have made it already and to a point, stop trying.
Did anyone notice that the whole of the Crewe team at the weekend were, Academy players? They won 2-1.
Crewe are known for having a great Academy that turns out player after player.

The information on this site from all the EDs, but ED002 especially gives out info and is clearly informed.
He tries to give his knowledge to inform us and give a better understanding of how clubs/ teams/ players contracts etc are run.
We as fans think we know but clearly we do not.
He like everyone else has an opinion. Lots of it is tongue in cheek, but is taken seriously by the poster.
I have been on the receiving end before, but took it on the chin and moved on. His opinion was not the same as mine. So be it.
This site is being ruined by the few, not the many.
Hope fully ED002 is still reading and see that he has the backing of the majority on this fantastic knowledgeable site.
Macca gets the same abuse, yet all he is trying to do is keep us informed with insider info.
I also remember the old days of this site when we used to read hilarious sightings and stories of uncles in burger vans saw X going into Liverpool.
Imagine if this site shut down and the EDs walked away?
Knowledge is a wonderful thing and i for one would miss the updates and debates.
Hopefully ED002 will be back soon so that we can learn from his knowledge and expertise in footballing matters.
