L'Equipe claiming that Liverpool sent scouts to watch talented PSG duo, Christopher Nkunku and Lamine Ba.
Nkunku, 17, is an attacking midfielder, whilst Ba, 18, is a central defender.

Being reported that Liverpool interest in Zenit St. Petersburg striker Salomon Rondon is intensifying, and it appears that the Reds are actively trying to seal a deal worth £15 million.
Some info about 25-year old Rondon:

* 2012: Became the most expensive Venezuelan footballer in history when he signed for Rubin Khazan in a €10m deal.

* 2013: Broke the record for most goals by a Venezuelan player in La Liga.

* 2014: Cost Zenit St. Petersburg £15.8m.

* Malaga: 27 goals/7 assists in 72 apps (Goal/assist every 2 games)

* Rubin: 25 goals/3 assists in 56 apps (Goal/assist every 2 games)

* Zenit: 28 goals/8 assists in 55 apps (Goal/assist every 1.5 games)

* Totals: 80 goals/18 assists (98) 183 apps (Goal/assist every 1.8 games).
Worth a bid???

I have absolutely no idea what Rondon would bring as I haven't watched him play. Would appreciate comments from people who have seen him play (in real matches, not just YouTube!).

However, I remember one of the Eds (Ed001, I think?) saying he's not the right player for us.

So £15m may be half of what is being mooted for Benteke, but for a player who isn't right for us (based on opinion of someone I trust with these matters) and is untested in the premier league and is already 25, doesn't seem like such a great deal to me.

Happy to be proved wrong, but seems like too much of a gamble.

* 2013: Broke the record for most goals by a Venezuelan player in La Liga.

Haha, what a record to have, can't imagine much competition

3.) 15 Jul 2015 09:42:25
@op6, exactly ya. Also the calculator seems to be broken and figures rounded down when it suits.

@Slaphead, worth a bid? I would say no. Why bother with him, we need either someone clearly a step up on what we have (other than a fit Sturridge) and he's not that.

4.) 15 Jul 2015 12:22:55
Just going to say that it seems your post is based on wishful thinking and being a Rondon fan. The facts you decided to include being the main pointer here. What is the speculation more precisely?

5.) 15 Jul 2015 12:36:49
Would prefer Rondon to Benteke if I am honest

6.) 15 Jul 2015 16:52:00
benteke is better than Rondon by a country mile due to a better upside to improve as well as experience in the PL. i watched Rondon at the Copa America and was not impressed at all.

After yesterdays horror show maybe some good news, it is being reported that the club is about to complete a deal for Benfica star Eduardo Salvio according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo. Apparently Benfica's president Luis Filipe Vieira and agent Jorge Mendes flying into England for talks.
Liverpool were named as a likely destination for Salvio and O Jogo reckon those talks have been going on.
The Argentine has a £40m buyout clause but Liverpool would get him for significantly less than that. O Jogo say in their Monday edition that Salvio's exit is 'a matter of days' away and that exit will be to Liverpool.
The Benfica player injured his knee in his club's game at the weekend but that's not thought to be serious. It will keep him out of the Portuguese League Cup final but an absence of three weeks is the stated lay-off and it shouldn't halt any transfer. A note of caution for Liverpool fans would be that the Portuguese press can get a little carried so could be jumping the gun, but they were first on Lazar Markovic to Liverpool so deserve credit for that.

Cheers for the info Slaphead. It may or may not happen and I don't know if he's good enough or not. Hopefully, we strengthen effectively this time round.

2.) 25 May 2015 08:58:22
Good player, but 40 million is way too much, considering the injuries he's had. Maybe if they have halved that price.

3.) 25 May 2015 12:02:20
£40 million is too much ?
We'll probably pay 50 then.
And then have the pleasure of watching him sit on the bench or toil at right back.
The club shouldn't sign anybody until they've sorted the manager situation out.

{Ed002's Note - Just to clarify matters. Mendes has been in London and Manchester over the weekend and is now in Madrid dealing with two matters there.}

4.) 25 May 2015 15:25:57
As usual Ed002 is on the ball with the information that us mere mortals could only dream of.
Totally agree that 40 million is way to much, but we are being linked with quite a few at the moment.
This is a very important window and hope who ever is in charge gets it right.
Thanks for all the hard work Eds and looking forward to the next transfer window.

5.) 26 May 2015 10:37:12
Get Salvio in him and Markovic were elletric for
Benfica 2 season ago.

08 Aug 2014 20:58:20
We are now being linked with Lazio's Balde Keita Diao, 19 years old. Lazio have snubbed a £16m offer from the Reds - and they want £24m for Keita's services.
Any more we are linked with as this is getting ridiculous now.
We are being linked with the world and his wife.

1.) We'll end up with grant holt and Victor Moses knowing our luck lol!

Liverpool could be in the frame to make a shock move for Palermo striker Abel Hernandez.

According to the Mirror, Brendan Rodgers could be aiming to snatch Hernandez from under the noses of rival clubs, just like he did with Philippe Coutinho.

Uruguayan Hernandez is widely regarded as one of the best young strikers in Europe and he has netted 11 times in 17 Serie 'B'games this season.

If Rodgers were to sign Hernandez though, it would have to be for a substantial figure - eight figures at least.

Apparently an attempt for Hernandez's signature was made by Liverpool in the summer but neither club could agree on a figure.

The 23-year-old is know across Europe and South America for his pace and technical ability. He has also scored seven goals in 11 international appearances.

He has previously been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur and Fiorentina reportedly had an offer knocked back in the summer.

Slaphead

1.) If he was good enough he surely wouldn't be playing in the 2nd tier at the age of 23.

Just a thought.

2.) No wonder we couldn't reach an agreement when they want an 8 figure sum for a 'seria B' player

Some young centre backs we could possibly look at who stock has risen
Malang Sarr
Dayot Upamecano
Timo Baumgartl
FILIP BENKOVIC
DUJE CALETA-CAR
RIVALDO COETZEE
JONATHAN TAH
DAYOT UPAMECANO.

Slaphead

{Ed001's Note - Rivaldo Coetzee? He failed a medical at Celtic so ended up at Mamelodi Sundowns in the South African leagues.}

1.) 02 Sep 2017 08:05:59
But there good in FIFA Ed! 😂.

{Ed001's Note - ah ok.}

2.) 02 Sep 2017 09:11:26
Dayot Upamecano? So good they named in twice!

3.) 02 Sep 2017 09:29:51
They sound like diseases.

4.) 02 Sep 2017 09:36:32
Football manager maybe.

5.) 02 Sep 2017 13:42:31
Malang Sarr seems to have a big future ahead of him, if we were going to sign a young centre back he'd be the one I choose though I profess I only know of him due to a friend (who is French and a massive Marseille fan) telling me about him. Highly regarded apparently.

Hi EDs
Doing a great job as usual.
I read somewhere recently that a new rule was bought in this year to try to keep wages down that clubs cannot go more than 9 million over their wage budget from last season.
Could this be clarified in any way please?
Thanks in advance.

Slaphead

{Ed002's Note - I don't want to go in to detail but the limit, for clubs with an Annual wage bill of £67M or more, they are limited to a £7M increase unless that money come form other sources of income (excluding media) - e.g. player sales, gate money, commercial income. There are complexities for clubs who decide to use an earlier baseline year (13/14 rather than 14/15) and so minor odds and ends.}

1.) 21 Jul 2017 09:02:13
Thanks for swift reply Ed002 and interesting to see how it works.
Ever thought of becoming an agent or a job in media?
Only kidding of course.

20 May 2017 09:02:47
Some free agents this summer.
Valentin Eysseric-Attacking midfield/ left or right wing

Rachid Ghezzal-Right wing/ centre or left wing

Sead Kolasinac- Left back/ wing back/ defensive midfield.

Slaphead

{Ed001's Note - hasn't Kolasinac already agreed to join Arsenal?}

1.) 20 May 2017 09:14:27
Hi ED001
You obviously know more than me, a mere mortal.
With players signing for the current manager, could that change if the manager changes?

{Ed001's Note - well yes but it is not going to in that case as we all know Wenger won't leave, he just wants to avoid a backlash when he says he is staying.}

2.) 20 May 2017 11:53:02
Speaking of Wenger, Ed001, what do you think of the way he has been treated by the Arsenal supporters and some of the ex-players? Do you think he deserves all the criticism he's received despite the long, loyal service in this age of "transient employees"? Was he not the driving force that got them a new stadium? Would you have had him as LFC manager for all those years he was at Arsenal?

{Ed001's Note - a long time ago he was at the forefront of new advances in football. When he came to England it was miles behind, so he was ahead of his time here, but he has not moved with the times and ended up a dinosaur. He refuses to have any staff around that do any more than say 'Yes sir', so he is not being asked questions. He is a genuinely nice guy but he lost his edge a long time ago and he should have stepped down.}

3.) 20 May 2017 13:04:06
Thanks Ed001.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate. Shame really, but every dictator needs people around them to question them or they just end up losing the plot. Clough is a case in point, whereas Fergie's longevity was a result of always having a strong number two.}

4.) 20 May 2017 13:43:11
I remember when Arsenal brought him in from Kashima Antlers. And everyone was wondering what on Earth were Arsenal up to? And as you correctly said, he brought in a more advanced way of playing with his "French Legion". It just shows you that boards can be as fickle as managers, players and supporters. They brought in the right person who was ahead of his time and then stayed with him when it has clearly been beyond his time.

5.) 21 May 2017 00:24:41
Didn't Brian Clough, unfortunately, have a drink problem which contributed to his ultimate demise as a manager?

{Ed002's Note - Back in the day many folks struggled with that devil. I know a number of players and ex-players who have struggled as well. But these are lifestyle choices that people take.}

6.) 21 May 2017 09:12:23
It's his own fault for waht is happening to him now at Arsenal. He has failed to adapt and keep abreast with the fast-changing ways of the modern game. Now, a lot of young coaches like Pep, Klopp, Conte and the like, have left him behind and cos he won't change and has become a dictator, the people are now revolting, which is exactly what happens when a dictatorship has run its course.

05 Feb 2017 12:46:31
Disappointed with recent result/ form but i am a believer and remember what Klopp said when he first joined.
"We will win the league within 4 years".
He has been at Liverpool just over 1 year. It seems like a project and building process and hopefully his wish will be granted.
Time and patience my friends.

Forget about the present i did not get you one.
Happy birthday ED001.
Many thanks for your contribution to a great informative site.

What you pay for is not how much playing time but his age and development by Chelsea, as what happened with Ings and Burnley. Think we ended up paying about 8 million for him through a tribunal where Liverpool only wanted to pay about 3-5 million if my memory serves me correctly.

There was only going to be one winner.

The ball was for Matip to deal with but Klavan came over also, making it 2 players going for the same ball, hence leaving the centre open.

It is how a lot of teams play now. Even at academy/ youth level.
The 2 centre backs go either side of the box whilst one of the midfielders drop in to the centre, basically making a triangle.
The 2 full backs push higher up the wings.
It is known as Dispersal. (the action or process of distributing or spreading things or people over a wide area) .

Danny
Do you really not think that was dangerous from Mane?
Ref has made the correct decision.
The keeper was not ducking into the ball and Mane foot was head high.
Should be criticising Mane for not going with his head also to attempt to win the ball fairly.
He was making a genuine attempt to win the ball but chose the wrong option as to how to try to win it.
