Rise and shine, my fellow Reds an as today we approach the arena of our TWELFTH European final in a roller coaster season that has brought some highs and lows but all that could be forgotten tonight if we seize the great opportunity we have to add another European trophy to our cabinet. If I had the opportunity to speak to the players before the game, here is what I would say,

"Nothing on this earth can light a fire in an athlete's belly than playing with a chip on your shoulder. Through out this season, you have been reminded of all the things you could not do. Everyone has been telling you about what you can't achieve. Many thought and still think that some of you are worthless and aren't fit to wear the LFC shirt. Throughout this European journey time and again, you have proved them wrong. You have defied all the odds. You have made all the doubters eat their words but still they are out there rooting for your own failure. I say to you, today is not that day. For today, they will be fed like fat cows as they will be served their own words on a platter and will be forced to eat them.

However, this will only happen if you seize the moment tonight in that stadium. When you walk on to that pitch tonight, remember all those who hated on you, who mocked you, said you weren't good enuff, said you would never get this far, said you were worthless and not worth the bother. Remember all this words because that will be your edge tonight as in, make that chip on your shoulder as big as a bolder, to remind you of how you got here. Sevilla don't know what you have been through to get here. Tonight, let them know. Do not worry about the fans, nor the manager. They will be with you till the end. All you have to do is focus on the game. Stick together no matter what, play fast, play smart and most of all. No regrets. WE ARE RED TILL WE ARE DEAD!

if we win this it will be so big. Some people i talk to still don't know why ( mostly united fans) . But it will be huge and not just a trophy , the momentum, the spirit, the feel good feeling, we would carry into next season with a manager like Klopp guiding us, it can be a dreamland for us in coming seasons. Today i just wish our players show what it means to them, what i means to the manager, would it means to the club and most importantly what it means for us fans. They carry our best wishes for tonight and i hope it drives them, gives them that extra they need. We can run them ragged tonite. we will run them ragged tonite. Its Liverpool they best club in whole world and for the current players it is a chance to be legends. tonights the night, and here we go again all behind our club . YNWA. let's all together Win it.

2.) 18 May 2016 11:58:10
Don't mind the Utd fans. They are still bitter that we thumped them in the same competition without even breaking a sweat.

3.) 18 May 2016 05:16:04
@ redohio: Brilliant post!

Pls God let this be it and while what we fight for is not the biggest trophy in the footballing world, it is the most important for us at this point in time.

Hello Ed's and Reds,

I was on YouTube and stumbled on Dirk Kuyt's LFC goals highlights. Couldn't believe he scored 71 goals for us. That's quite a good record. Then, I stumbled on all the 49 goals Benteke scored for Villa so a I said I would watch them to see what he was really like and if Villa played to his strengths. I could not believe what I was watching. In his first two years there, the guy was lethal. He could score different types of goals. He could move, he had pace, he could run with the ball from midfield and score. He attacked crosses, perfect or imperfect, and score. He seemed to try to lose his markers. He was on the move, busted a gut just get into the area to score. All in all, I was impressed with what I saw of the goals he scored. Now, I don't know if he's lacking confidence or the price tag is wearing on him or what but I can tell you that the guy we have now is an impostor, a fake and a fraud. In comparison, the guy just doesn't seem bothered anymore. He lacks the desire and hunger he had at the start of his Villa career to score goals and that is worrying for me. I mean if he moved like that here, he would score a lot more than he's doing now. I know we don't cross the ball well but if he moved his butt to get into the area like at Villa, he would defo score more. I just wanted to share that and invite others to watch his goals as well and let me know what they think. Cheers and best of luck tonight at Stoke!

1.) 05 Jan 2016 03:59:25
here's the deal once you get your desired pay and see yourself successful person the desire to bust a gut is difficult to come from within. ( yaya toure) then what's left to drive you is either passion your passion for the club, for the game, for the manager for the fans or hunger- hunger to be the best in the world, hunger to make the world take notice, hunger for competition. that's what is wrong with benteke he is on a good pay at a big club - so for the moment his life is good ( in the words of JK) -its not he has lost his ability its just he has lost his hunger and that will come when he feels what he has is not enough and desires for more and pushes himself. Unfortunately for us fans that happens successfully with only 1 in 100 players. ( btw he has been scoring for us, and he could score in every game but he doesn't go about it putting in a real shift)

2.) 05 Jan 2016 04:03:08
Benteke has a weird tendency to score a lot more in the second half of the season for some reason.

In 12/ 13 for Villa, he scored 19 total, but 13 of them were after January 13th.

In 13/ 14, he only scored 10, and 2 of those were penalties. He did rupture his Achilles in April of 2014, but scored 6 of the 10 between January and then.

Last year he scored 13, with 11 coming after March.

Hoping his second half is again better this season as well.

3.) 05 Jan 2016 05:53:52
Funny how those highlight videos work.

4.) 05 Jan 2016 06:35:06
A lot of players coming to LFC in recent years seem to be playing much worse than in former clubs. Take Lambert and Baloteli last year. Take Lallana, Lovern until recently. I am sure Firmino was much better last year otherwise we wouldn't spend so much money on him. I find it hard to believe that Milner was so poor in City although not 100% sure on that. I don't know if it is the pressure, style that doesn't suit them, poor quality of other players, how easy it is for opposition teams to close us down but it is a fact. Players come to us and drop a level in their form.

5.) 05 Jan 2016 07:25:18
I don't think you can count Lambert.
I thought it was a pointless signing but you have to admit the lad never got a decent run in the team.

6.) 05 Jan 2016 09:00:17
Under Lambert Villa played counter attacking football a lot, hewas provided a lot of space with the often 3 up top, Striker worried about Bent, running off the shoulder, Gabby running in behind when he still had a modicum pf pace and wasn't a bit chubby, and weimann also helped with his work rate.
This all afforded Benteke room to find space, and made him fight for a place at the age of 22.It was no surprise Villa garnered more success when the brought in Bent in the 12/ 13 season in Jan. After that though I really don't remember him being a work horse. for the most part though.

7.) 05 Jan 2016 11:53:30
It's probably because when a player plays for your club, you look at the player in far greater detail. Plus the opinions of other people affect your perception of the player because you start looking for things highlighted by other people.

I'm 100% sure that if Ed01 says Benteke should play in goals, you'd all be heading to Sports Direct to buy him a pair of gloves.

8.) 05 Jan 2016 12:32:39
I know this is Benteke based but on Firmino, he has been ok if not good most games, he does a hell, of a job off the ball both attacking and defending, in fact his numbers for pressing the opposition are the 2nd highest at the club for successful presses, either winning the ball himself or making the opponent lose the ball and we gain it. His runs in and around the box are constantly opening teams up, a lot of the work he does is not noticed if u watch on the telly, but he is doing it, also his adjustment time will be longer as he has come from a different league and to another new country. I have no doubt that by the end of the season or the start of next we will really start to see his quality, he is beginning to gel with the squad but has a way to go and I think he will become lethal given time.

In this moment, I Believe.

9.) 05 Jan 2016 12:53:01
Kuyt is still scoring goals now. He actually had a very under rated goal ratio at LFC considering he spent most games out of position in right midfield because Gerrard refused to play there.

Kuyt scored very important goals for us. When nobody else was at their best he was consistently on hand to grind out results for us through his sheer determination. A proper modern club Legend for me. His work ethic was backed up with quality.

10.) 05 Jan 2016 13:36:13
Totally agree EMS.

Kuyt is one of the most underrated Liverpool Players in my time. What he lacked in ability he made up for in work rate.

I'm sure he was dubbed the man for the big occasion because of the goals he scored.

11.) 05 Jan 2016 14:45:56
I think kuyt most suited to the right, his work rate was incredible, his composure was excellent and he was throng in the air. The amount of goal kicks aimed towards him on the right was substantial and he won most against the left backs.
Who can score a hatrick against United and not be loved!

07 Dec 2015 21:03:15
I won`t give up on him yet because he has all the tools and the fact that Klopp wanted him to replace Lewa showed at least at the time, that he had a plan for him so I`ll let the man coach him up BUT he will need to up his game because Klopp won`t wait around too long. As for Milner and Allen? They should be shown the door because they are simply not good enuff especially Milner who is just aweful. At least Allen has been solid in games. I haven`t watched a game where Milner played well this year apart from the Villa game at Anfield.

redohio

1.) 08 Dec 2015 00:04:46
Strange about Milner because he has proven over the last few season he has qualities to offer except just running around. At times he's saved city, hopefully he will settle in a bit more. Allen has had long enough.

2.) 08 Dec 2015 04:04:22
Agree Fencey, I still think he brings something to the side even if it hasn't quite clicked for him yet.

Eg. you could see him coming on in a tough spot in cup final and hoping he'll regain control of midfield for you.

You can't say that for some others in the squad.

{Ed001's Note - why do people keep saying Klopp wanted Benteke at Dortmund? It is not true, that is not what he said. He said they were aware of his qualities, but nothing about wanting to sign him.}

3.) 08 Dec 2015 05:47:33
I think Klopp wants to give Benteke, like Allen or Milner, an opportunity to show what he can do, and give him time to see if he can adapt to the demands Klopp sets out, and that is commendable. But these players need to start performing soon or I think Klopp will stick to the ones who does what he wants, and make them peripheral players before moving them on. So, if Beneteke wants to fit in, he needs start showing better movement, and if he hasn't been doing that ever, he better start it now. If Allen wants a new contract, he needs to be able to show more in midfield than the powder-puff stuff we see from him, and etc.

4.) 08 Dec 2015 09:08:17
Thanks ed word for word what I posted the other day.

He said they knew about him but not that they thought 1/ he was good enough for Dortmund or 2/ that he was a good player but didn't suit Jurgens way of playing.

Its grinding on me same way as Origi must be great because Klopp wanted him at Dortmund.

5.) 08 Dec 2015 06:25:18
AG

Financially that would be a disaster for the club. Benteke is far from a rookie. He joined Liverpool to play the main man and we did pay 35 mill for him.

How do you think the club would sell him? Pretty much the case with Milner. There wouldn't be any takers for Milner with the wage we pay him.

We need to plan a different set up to utilise Benteke and I am pretty sure Klopp would have got that at Newcastle.

6.) 08 Dec 2015 12:40:33
What? So, Klopp should forego his management and coaching style to fit in Benteke because financially it is a burden for Liverpool? There is so much nonsense in that post Harry, I really don't know here to begin!

7.) 08 Dec 2015 14:22:35
Then Ed, I am truly sorry because I thought I read somewhere that Klopp was interested in Benteke at BVB. My apologies for the mixup.

{Ed001's Note - it was spin, he just said he was aware of Benteke's abilities and that became spun by the media.}

I have been reading the fallout of BR's dismissal and based on the Daily Fai and Sly, I am completely disgusted at the blatant attempts to heap all the blame for his failures on the Transfer Commitee. Thanks to the Eds, we know that BR is the most powerful voice on that commitee and decides who gets signed and who doesn't. We also know that he was given a free hand when he joined and that full control, gave us Allen, Borini, Aspas, Alberto, and Assaidi. WTH? Wouldn't give him a brass farthing for players after that dross. The media is trying to save BR's face by blaming the TC for blowing 300m on players on mostly players according to them, that BR had to make do with. Total rubbish! No manager worth his badges will accept that nonsense. They mentioned that BR wanted Bertrand whilst at the same time accepting that Chelsea categorically refused to sell. How's that the commitee's fault? He also wanted Ashley Williams but the TC said no due to his age according to the Fail but thanks to the Eds, we know Williams was never an option. They claim BR revealed that to friends or leaks that he felt undermined by a commitee that he conveniently neglected to mention that it was put in place because he was aweful at transfers. The media also doesn't mention that all big clubs have the very same setup with a DOF in place that work with the manager on transfers but when it's their media darling, he is being hampered. IMO, I feel the media are trying to rewrite history and BR's pathetic comments and inuendos in the media through out his time here, has turned their attention away from him and placing the blame for his failures on the TC and ultimately, the owners who are not saints but did what was needed. Just thought is share my frustration at the disingenuous and dishonest conduct of the media about this issue. Thoughts Eds and fellow Reds?

1.) 06 Oct 2015 03:10:37
Good, let sly say what they want it might end up being a positive for us and the club changes the way it does it dealings or it will play into klopp's hand and he gets what he wants his way. Either way all the media coverage might make FSG rethink their transfer dealings.

2.) 06 Oct 2015 03:14:03
Some of it maybe true Redohio. Even Carra has come out and said that there is lot of politics going on at LFC which may discourage top managers from wanting the job.
There is no doubt that BR had to go but that is not end of the problems that have led to our current situation.
The major issue is no accountability. Because of TC structure we don't know who is bringing in the players. We know the manager is signing off, but the reality of bureaucracy is that it is not hard to twist people' arms.

I feel that new manager should either be given full reigns or appoint a person who is assigned to handle transfers. End this TC stupidity now!!

3.) 06 Oct 2015 05:16:09
What ever creates a hesdline! I expect nothing else from that side of the British media.

4.) 06 Oct 2015 06:32:25
I believe It's always the owners fault. They employed the manager and put together the committee. I think they are good owners and the investment is world class . I think we can safely say that if we'd given Klopp £300 million, we'd probably be attempting to mount a title defence this season.

5.) 06 Oct 2015 07:08:28
While I always believe what the eds say, and I also believe them about the transfers and transfer committee, you have to take into consideration that most press are saying that one of Klopp's requests are that he has final say on transfers. So if the manager(being Rodgers) had final say, why would Klopp now feel the need to specify, and request that?

6.) 06 Oct 2015 07:35:58
My thoughts are, he's gone so move on. Is it worth how angry it makes you feel? The fans got their wish so let's have some positivity and steer away from what BR did or didn't do.

It's a new era now!

7.) 06 Oct 2015 07:47:39
I agree. The media wouldn't have given a toss if he wasn't from the UK. We saw similar defense for Harry Redknapp at QPR, Roy Hodgson at LFC, Sam Allardyce at West Ham and David Moyes at Man Utd. We will see the same media jumping to the defense of Tim Sherwood and Steve McClaren soon. By contrast, this much indignity was never shown by the media when Benitez, Ancelotti, AVB, and recently when Dick Advocaat left Sunderland. And we all know that is because they are from the UK.

Why did the media (particularly the Daily Fail) mention Ashley Williams and Ryan Bertrand as players Rodgers wanted but were overruled by the TC? Is it because they are in decent form and playing well? Probably.

Brendan Rodgers also wanted Clint Dempsey (instead of Daniel Sturridge), Gylfi Siggurdsson (ahead of Pilippe Coutinho), Alex MacCarthy or Michelle Vorm (to replace Pepe Reina) and Neil Taylor before we got Alberto Moreno. But, we will not hear this in the media.

Brendan Rodgers also wanted and GOT Joe Allen, Fabio Borini, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Victor Moses and Christian Benteke. Again we will not hear from the media about these players.

Brendan Rodgers wanted to sell Lucas, Agger, Skrtel, Henderson among others but well not hear from the media about this.

He also poorly managed Reina, Agger, Sahin, Enrique, Downing, Markovic, Balotelli (not condoning him), Carroll, Skrtel, Sakho, Borini, Teixeira, Ilori, but again, we will not hear this rom the media.

I am not saying everything is hunky-dory at LFC's player recruitment, as clearly Hunter, Barry and Edwards needs to be held accountable for some poor judgement, but if you can blame them for the getting players Rodgers didn't want a 100% (Markovic, Moreno, Balotelli, Sakho), then you have to comment them for identifying and putting forward players to Rodgers, some of who were not signed (Willian, Costa, Sanchez, Mkhitaryan, Konoplyanka, Can, Remy, Firmino, Coutinho, Alli).

8.) 06 Oct 2015 08:07:51
Reina wanted to bale when things got tough and got what he deserved as he was flirting with other clubs through his dad. Enrique has never been good enough and wouldn't leave the club when an opportunity arose. The Italian was never manageable and Agger had some nasty habits. Downing wasn't good enough and wasn't his signing.

Rodgers clearly wasn't the best man manager, but there have been a number of issues with players.

Oh yeah, Sanchez and Willian chose a different club. Nothing to do with the manager

9.) 06 Oct 2015 08:20:52
I am not surprised Davey has completely missed my point. This was not a post about Brendan Rodgers or the specific issues of certain players, but about the media, but I am not surprised you to turned all of this about Rodgers.

10.) 06 Oct 2015 08:22:33
I don't understand why BR has to receive a big pay out after getting the sack for not being good enough. If I was relieved of my duties because I wasn't deemed good enough I may be able to sue for wrongful dismissal but that's it, there would be no big golden handshake. It's stupidity.

{Ed002's Note - It is not a "golden handshake" it is the club buying him out of the remainder of his contract.}

20 Apr 2015 13:49:04
First of all, I would like to congratulate Villa, the players and the fans on a perf that deserves great praise and filled with energy, guile, skill, discipline and respect for the occasion.

They played the game the way it should be played and good luck in the final. Now as for us, I don't know about anybody else, BUT I have had it up to my throat with BR, his ineptitude, tactical naivety, inability to learn from past mistakes as well as his inflated ego and overall incompetence.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! What I saw at Wembley was not a bad perf. It was an utter embarrassment from a big club managed by a completely inept manager whose players reflected his cluelessness on the pitch. If you as a manager, got tactically schooled, outclassed, out-thought and out-coached by an average manager like Sherwood then you need to get the sack for that alone. Where do I begin with the shambles I watched?

Dreadful team selection, playing a system that is VERY easy to nullify, placing square pegs in round holes (a DM is playing CB/FB while a non-DM is playing DM. Go figure!), selecting his favs like Skrtel (the worst CB at the club and hopefully this perf confirmed it to all even to his apologists), SG, Allen and changing systems three times mid game which left players confused hence, playing like headless chickens with no idea of what to do next.

BR has been found out and FSG needs to act NOW for the sake of our club. I don`t hate the guy BUT after 3 years and over 200m spent, where is the progress? If people are satisfied with this type of progress then they should go support BR when he gets his next job because this right here, is FAILURE of the highest order.

And if wanting more success from my club and pointing out that the head man is out of his depth with facts to back up my argument makes me sound bitter, negative and a BR hater then SO EFFING BE IT. He changed systems three times midgame to the point that I was even confused. If you are reacting continuously to what the other coach is doing tactically without success then you are losing the tactical battle and BR got tactically whipped today.

I can accept we lost BUT will NEVER accept being embarrassed and showing no desire, determination, passion will to win etc in such a big game w/ our season on the line. THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE.

FSG need to act now and stop the bleeding and refuse to allow an individuals incompetence, mismanagement and over-inflated ego come between us and the progress of our great club. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

2.) 20 Apr 2015 18:13:01
Not saying we should have won or anything. But how can you praise villa for beating such an inept team. what about the lines man's call? Or does that not matter.

3.) 20 Apr 2015 19:45:17
No, it doses not matter, IMO because that would be a cop out and a poor excuse for a reason we lost a game we were clearly unprepared for and where a manager's incompetence and ineptitude was shown to the world to behold. Your argument would be valid if we actually competed in the game and got beaten by a roll of dice just like Reading got beaten by Arsenal via an unlucky GK mistake. That was not the case and had we even won, I would still be fuming because that would not do near enuff to gloss over a complete embarrassment of a performance. BR messed up for the last time and IMO, needs to be let go in the summer and get someone in here with a system, a clear direction and will to win instead of a tactical liability and media politician

Hart is an awful keeper and his mistakes are there for all to see. His howler at the Euros when Bale hit the free kick from 35 yards out and he still spilt it despite having all day to see it coming. Had Karius or Mingo or any other non English GK done that, he would have been slaughtered for it and rightfully so. But because Hart is English, the apologies and excuses came pouring out and now certain fans want him here if Karius hadn`t signe. The guy is awful and deserves the grief he gets, end of.

NorRed, I agree with you completely on Milner and Lallana. I say in fact, I wouldn`t mind if they got sold because if they are not playing and should be on the bench as you say, their wages alone will count as what we call Dead money meaning, money that isn`t working for you. If the players on stupid wages aren`t playing regularly then they should be off the books and let another club deal with them.

Spot on, Peace. Hendo already convinced me when he refused to take the easy route and go to Fulham. He stayed, fought for his place, convinced his manager (the one who would have loved to see the back of him initially), worked hard, was integral in our title run (many argue that his suspension contributed to costing us the PL), and became LFC captain.

He is a model of work ethic, determination and a true pro. He continues to improve and work on his game as he`s not cocky and is very humble. because he doesn`t do Hollywood passes like SG nor shoot from 30 yards or doesn`t show "presence" (whatever that means) on the pitch, many (who never wanted him here to start with) are always on his back especially when we lose yet he gets no credit when we win.

Yesterday, he sent a perfect SG-esque ball into the box to Lallana who later bottled the header. Don`t hear anyone acknowledging that pass, do we? Frankly, I`m over it. If you don`t like Hendo, that`s your opinion but stop the unfounded criticisms as they have no basis in reality.
