Just read that Newcastle are trying to get Klavan, but negotiations have currently hit a brick wall. Know anything about it Eds.

IMH

1.) 09 Aug 2018 14:53:35
Swap for Lascelles (spelling) maybe?

2.) 09 Aug 2018 15:57:17
Pretty sure Newcastle are looking to build capacity, not downgrade it (no offense to Klavan but he's not got the legs that Lascelles does to play 40 games in a season, even if he has the ability)

13 Jul 2017 09:49:52
Morning Ed's, reading this morning that Klopp may give Sakho a lifeline to reignite his Liverpool career. He stated "He needs to get 100% fit and then we will see". Is this just ensuring we get the price we want for him or is he considering keeping him.

Thanks.

IMH

{Ed001's Note - it is about getting a good price. He would have to show a major change in attitude to stay.}

1.) 13 Jul 2017 09:57:39
If we're looking to sign a CB but are unable to sign one could we see sakho playing for us next season should his attitude change? Highly unlikely he will play competitively for us again.

2.) 13 Jul 2017 09:57:40
Thanks Ed001, just interested in your thoughts, would you keep him, sell him and give young Gomez the opportunity or bring in another cb.

{Ed001's Note - sell him and give Gomez a shot.}

3.) 13 Jul 2017 10:03:16
Fully agree, you have a good mate and thanks for the response.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate and cheers.}

4.) 13 Jul 2017 10:12:07
You can't challange for a premier league with gomez at CB. You need more, CBs need experience. If gomez is the future we should have signed pepe on a free for 2 years to guide him.

{Ed001's Note - that is just nonsense. Leicester managed it with Huth and Morgan as their backline, neither are any good on their own. It is about partnerships and playing to player's strengths, as much as individual quality.}

5.) 13 Jul 2017 11:00:05
Being able to keep him would be just like a new signing!
I hope really Klopp will change his mind, but Sakho needs to have some discipline first.

6.) 13 Jul 2017 11:04:24
I wish this Leicester thing never happened its all anyone reverts back too. Do you think liverpool will challange for the league with the CBs we have then ed?

{Ed001's Note - I wish people would stop going on about the quality of players with such stupid posts. Cahill is not a good player, but he was good enough to win the league more than once. There is a lot more to it than simply having the best players.

I am far more worried about our full backs than anything else. They simply do not suit the way we play. Now please stop asking dumb questions, it is not only about the centre backs as to whether we challenge or not. This is just wasting my time.}

7.) 13 Jul 2017 11:07:33
Would love to see Gomez given a chance, he seemed very composed yesterday and can win the ball without going to ground and pass the ball around a bit. Would be great to see him given a chance at CB.

8.) 13 Jul 2017 11:54:34
Man Utd won loads of league titles with players such as Brown and O'Shea. Its not about CB's or the full backs or even the goalkeeper. Defending is a collective thing, a group. Defending as a unit is key.

{Ed001's Note - I am so glad someone gets it. Our issue is that we still haven't got that bit sorted. It was starting to improve at the end of the season though, with Migs making strides, the rest looked better.}

9.) 13 Jul 2017 12:11:56
They also had vidic and rio and van der sar. how can you compare the two? Living in cloud cookoo land.

10.) 13 Jul 2017 12:17:59
Anyway we will see how it goes won't we. But ill be back to tell you i told you so. And if im wrong ill eat a humble pie.

{Ed001's Note - don't bother I am not 5 years old and no one cares but you whether you were right or not.}

11.) 13 Jul 2017 12:20:02
Sakho is so far away from being what we need. I've never seen a team line-up before a game and thought 'thank god, Sakhos in, we'll be fine'.
Not entirely sure Gomez is what we need either but then can't say I've seen enough to him to make an honest judgment.

12.) 13 Jul 2017 13:03:59
Win the title with lovren and moreno as our defenders. please let us try and be honest with ourselves. And putting a lot of responsibility and pressure on the young lad Gomez is a little bit premature don't you think ed.

{Ed001's Note - to be third choice? If he is not up to it then we need to know, rather than just waiting around for years and giving him no chance to find out one way or the other. I saw people clamouring for the likes of Ake etc who are not much older. It is time we started giving our own youngsters a go rather than buying them in.}

13.) 13 Jul 2017 14:01:22
I don't think people have a problem with Gomez getting a chance, just maybe at 4th choice CB not 3rd. That way we get to have more choice on when is best to play him. I am concerned that we can easily end up having to play with an untested CB in Gomez and Kalvan for large parts of the season if the other two CBs have a repeat of last seasons injury problems.
I also get what people are saying regarding defending as a unit, but the system that Klopp plays doesn't really do that. The CBs are often exposed with the fullbacks pushing so far up the pitch, add to that a lack of a proper disciplined CDM. I think with this in mind then individual quality from our CBs is quite important.

{Ed001's Note - actually the way we play emphasises the need for defending as a unit, not lessens it.}

14.) 13 Jul 2017 14:44:44
I think Sakho is the best centre back at the club but I think the ship has well and truely sailed with him. Shame as he seemed a good character, obviously over stepped the mark once too many and I don't think Klopp is the type of guy to change his mind.

15.) 13 Jul 2017 15:13:40
You act 5 a lot of the time. everyone is entiitled to voice an opinion and if you don't agree you jumo on your high horse.

{Ed001's Note - if you say so. I don't know why you bother wasting my time talking to me then. I would be quite happy if you didn't bother. Especially considering the bull you have posted recently, be doing us all a favour if you took your lies about Aubamayeng signing etc elsewhere.}

16.) 13 Jul 2017 16:14:41
How is Gomez or any player supposed to get experience if people keep taking the view they're not experienced enough and we should sign other players instead. You can't loan someone out for years and years and expect they will come back and be happy and efficient when the other player you brought in has finally finished playing.

17.) 13 Jul 2017 16:18:00
I agree with demicis in the respect that while utd had o shea and brown they also had rio and vidic. We simply don't have a defender anywhere near the class of those two. At the same time I totally agree about defences being a collective thing. Remember how good henchoz was with hypia and no one would've said before hand that stefan henchoz was a world beating centre back. No need to be rude to the guys that make this page as good as it is (read about salah here way before it was all over papers) as a note, I would like to see gomes get a bit of game time somewhere before we trust him with our title challenge. He looks a PROPER prospect but tranmere ain't chelsea. Tranmere aren't even Swansea. No where close. Brighton loan would suit all parties I think.

18.) 13 Jul 2017 16:18:00

19.) 13 Jul 2017 17:51:32
It's about proper coaching and organisation. you do that right and your pretty much there. I've seen the best centre halves on the planet make horrific errors.

20.) 13 Jul 2017 19:07:09
If Sakho were to stay I'd like Klopp to give him a chance alongside Matip because I think they would complement exact other better than Lovren and Matip. For me I'd rather see Sakho change his attitude and earn himself another chance than us going out and spending stupid money on a CB that isn't that much better than we currently have (VVD, I'm not slating VVD because he is better than what we currently have but I don't value him at £60 mil+ so I'd rather keep that money and sign quality fullbacks)

21.) 13 Jul 2017 19:51:51
While from a monetary standpoint, I would love for us to just keep Sakho, but I don't see how he suits our style. He's best fit in a team that packs it in. He's strong in the tackle, but is a nightmare with a high line, getting caught out of position and making rash decisions (something I see VVD doing often as well) . I think Lovren and Matip can do just fine if proper outside backs are brought in, and Mignolet becomes a strong communicator with the entire back line. As has been said, defending is best done as a unit, and in Klopp's system (high press) more cohesion is needed than any other system due to players pushing forward out of possession rather than getting everyone behind the ball.

22.) 13 Jul 2017 19:56:35
Our defence looks week due to 2 poor full backs and a keeper that does not communicate and organise his defence.
Sort these area's out and suddenly it a new ball game.
How does Gomez get expeariance if he is 3rd choice. I'd go further and say I hope klavenleaves so Gomez has to play.
He has always looked accomplished whenever I see him.

Also our main problem against the smaller teams is getting hit on the break and crumbling, I'd like to see a change in formation against these teams afford a bit more protection against this. 4.2.3.1.
It would first sure up the defence and secondly allow for a creative player like coutinho to drop deeper and affect the play more. with 2 pacy wingers and stude upfront.

23.) 13 Jul 2017 22:24:05
It is a telling problem that the right footed career midfielder at left back seemed to have more idea to deal with wingers trying to cross than the right footed career defender at right back. If that doesn't improve the CBs and the keeper will be getting bombarded anyway.

24.) 14 Jul 2017 01:57:01
I hope all our CBs will be better this season. You'd think by now they'll be more used to playing the high press and will have learnt from their mistakes from last season, you'd hope. Also more experience playing together and Migs haveing improved should also help.

wait and see, but definitely give Gomez a run!

25.) 17 Jul 2017 17:30:00
I do think there is an element of you have to accept you are going to be caught out a few times if you play very high up the pitch for your back line.

22 Jul 2016 10:10:39
I see one of the media outlets suggesting that Inter Milan look likely to take Balotelli. Doesn't say if they are looking for a loan or straightforward purchase, probably at a very reduced price. Apparently Mancini still rates him highly and is happy to give him another go. Here's hoping.

IMH

1.) 22 Jul 2016 15:51:56
Nobody is going to buy Balotelli as he is someone that can upset the dressing room and you have no idea what you will get out of him. A loan with option to buy is the only deal that makes any sense!

{Ed002's Note - I don't think that is an option right now.}

2.) 22 Jul 2016 16:26:04
I heard a surprise bid for balotelli may come from Chelsea when Costa leaves.

3.) 22 Jul 2016 17:42:08
Conte didn't pick him for Italy, can't rate him that highly.

4.) 23 Jul 2016 11:52:47
I find it rather amusing all the positivity around Chilwell a player, let's face it we all know very little about (even Ed001 when asked said he was going by all the positivity coming out of the Leicester camp) and then the tremendous amount of criticism our management team are getting for signing GW, a player that I have seen close up in The Netherlands and personally rate highly. But it is not about my opinion it is about the managers and his staff all of whom have a greater understanding of what they will be doing, how they will be playing, and what players they need for that, than any of us. It is though, like I say, amusing how "hype" can generate opinion!

23 Aug 2015 20:51:34
Apparently Borini will complete his move to Inter Milan within the next 48hrs.

IMH

29 Jun 2015 14:52:59
Liverpool have apparently agreed a deal to sign 16yr old Nigerian Bobby Adekanye who has been on Barcelona's books for the last 4yrs. For some reason he has recently been training with PSV ? He is a fast skilful winger with bags of potential, which must be correct as Barca have had him for quite a while.

IMH

1.) 29 Jun 2015 16:16:01
Great news, a fast skillful winger with bags of potential. Something our youth setup is really missing!

Lemar would be a great signing but not looking likely especially given that arsenal have just bid 100 million euros, unless he wants to play champions league and has his heart set on Liverpool. I'd be happy with just securing VVD.

IMH

25 Jul 2017 15:53:45
Afternoon Red's, looking forward for the season to start and at this moment in time I'm quite happy with the current squad especially if we can keep Couts for another season. For me if Can goes then it gives the lad Grujic a chance to show what he's about and I'm liking what I see every time he gets on the pitch. If Couts does go (Be gutted) but I'm sure there are other targets to turn to, and again if we don't get anyone in we still have Lallana and Bobby to play in that position and have a front 3 of Salah, Sturridge, Mane which is a hell of a line up. Albeit VVD and Keita are quality but I think both ships have sailed there so we trust in what we have which as I've said is a strong squad of players with majority now back fit which is like a few new signings. We do need to concentrate on the outgoings to ensure we lighten the load in terms of numbers and financial aspects and allow these lad's to get their careers back on track elsewhere.

IMH

1.) 25 Jul 2017 19:02:49
IMH, If Can leaves, that would leave a big hole in the #6 position as we would only have Hendo to rely on there as Grujic is not a #6. He is an CAM as shown in the preseason games this summer. Another player may need to come in there if Can leaves and I'm not a fan of playing Wiji there either.

24 Jul 2017 13:25:18
Just read the report about RB leipzig having ended today's training session following Keita retaliating to an earlier tackle and making a tackle on the same player injuring him quite badly. Obviously bad feelings running high in their camp.

Ed's is this just a fallout with a fellow player or down to Liverpool's pursuit and Keita possibly wanting to leave RB. Has it actually caused so much impact and disruption within their team.

Thanks.

IMH

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea as I wasn't there.}

1.) 24 Jul 2017 13:38:48
I think people make too much out of incidents like this, happens a lot in training and always goes unreported, its just because it is the transfer window that it goes out of proportion, seriously do any of us think a player would intentionally hurt a team mate to get a move?

2.) 24 Jul 2017 13:43:58
I thought you were omniscient Ed002?

{Ed002's Note - Omnipotent actually.}

3.) 24 Jul 2017 13:55:08
Treatment is available but not sure of length of waiting lists though Ed002 should go to the head of any queue in any event.

4.) 24 Jul 2017 14:09:07
With regards this non-story, the chances are this is just a guy putting in a bad tackle in training, happens every day it's only being reported because of all the media interest.

However, if there is any possibility at all that Keita is attempting to injure players to try and force a move then I don't want him anywhere near Liverpool thank you very much.

However, this total conjecture and all rather pointless.

5.) 24 Jul 2017 14:12:32
Oops didn’t see someone posted it before me, eds don’t worry about posting mine i’ll just write what I said in here

It can be either one of these.
A) He is genuinely p! ssed off with not being allowed to leave and genuinely really wants to come to us
B) He fell out with the player he took out
C) he slipped and did damage by accident and the press are having a field day adding fuel to a dying fire.
Unless somebody caught it on camera, we will never know lol.

6.) 24 Jul 2017 14:44:19
He can't want to leave or he would put in a transfer request.
Nothing to see here 👍.

19 Jul 2017 10:43:51
Being reported now that Liverpool are interested in Thomas Muller of Bayern, which is surely a load of BS. Or we are selling both Couts and Sturridge.

IMH

1.) 19 Jul 2017 10:49:56
And people are actually stupid enough to believe this nonsense!
The whole budget being blown on a player who plays in the same position as one of our bonafide starters in Firmino? The least the media could do is put in 1% effort in their shabby work.

2.) 19 Jul 2017 10:55:05
He has been mediocre for the past two seasons! Bayern has no interest in selling him and he won't move anyways!

3.) 19 Jul 2017 11:13:17
Behave Harry.
Muller and mediocre do not go hand in hand. He is a world class player from whom Ancelotti has no idea how to get the best out of.
Fantastic player but not what LFC need right now.

4.) 19 Jul 2017 11:28:31
Yeah last thing we need is fantastic players! Especially ones we're not after!

5.) 19 Jul 2017 11:24:18
@indian

He has been mediocre form last two seasons! He is not even getting a sniff in the first team! He is like Firmino, works very hard score very few. Unfortunately they have a world class striker now who score in abundance!

6.) 19 Jul 2017 14:02:13
It's coming from Bild which isn't the most reliable.

02 Jul 2017 20:33:20
On a general football theme, what a mockery they have made of this video referee trial. For anyone not watching the confederations final the ref has gone off the pitch to review an incident on play back. He was virtually surrounded by the Chile bench wittering on in his ear and upon coming back on to the pitch gives Java a yellow card for what resembled GBH.

Ed's what are your thoughts on this Fifa video trial for refs during the game.

IMH

{Ed001's Note - I don't know I am not watching it, but every time I have seen the VAR in action it has been shambolic.}

1.) 02 Jul 2017 21:18:50
It works in rugby but the players show respect to the referee.

2.) 02 Jul 2017 21:42:03
Infancy stages. Mistakes will happen.

3.) 02 Jul 2017 21:46:33
It shouldn't be used during outfield play. Only penalties/ non pens, and offsides.

4.) 02 Jul 2017 21:54:48
Hate the way the ref watched the replay himself, that took far too much time, must trust the other officials!

5.) 02 Jul 2017 22:51:09
Perhaps a system like cricket could be used where both sides have 3 reviews. This means that the referee can't be blamed for not checking something. Worth a shot I think.

6.) 02 Jul 2017 23:13:39
Absolute shocking decision and makes a mockery of it already 100% red card.

7.) 03 Jul 2017 08:57:49
Point is the ref was stood directly in front of him when he blatantly chinned him and should have made the decision there and then to send him off. In my opinion its not the var its the sub-standard officials. It just needs some basic protocols to govern when its used and the ref needs to take advice from the off field ref and thrust their decision just like rugby.

8.) 03 Jul 2017 11:11:24
The VAR is not a bad system. The prob is that it is not being used in the right situations. In the NFL, the review system or VAR is used when touchdowns are scored or when there is a change of possession play (interceptions, fumbles, and fumble recoveries) as those are the critical parts of the game that can give an advantage to either team.

What the VAR is not used for is for Judgement calls (like offensive/ defensive pass interference, defensive/ offensive holding, false starts etc) as these are at the interpretation of the officials hence, there is some human input there.

The head official (umpire) has 30 seconds to review the play from every angle, (which is the same angles that fans all over the world via slow motion will be able to see. If there is no real evidence that could change the call on the field, the original call stands. If there is clear evidence, the original call is reversed.

Hence IMO, the VAR should be used for goals, offsides) that could lead to or prevent goals from being rightly or wrongly awarded) and penalties. The fouls anywhere on the pitch (bar the penalty box) should be left at the refs' interpretation. This is what I would propose.

9.) 03 Jul 2017 11:45:35
It was a joke last night but honestly I'm happy it was a joke as hopefully they will learn from this. It is still in trial stage and I think we could all see that the ref having to leave the field himself to see a replay was ridiculous.

Hopefully they bring in stricter rules regarding crowding the ref and just book anyone involved even if it means the whole team at once, players need to respect the ref for the game to work.
