Just seen on SSN that Chelsea and Liverpool are waiting to see if Arsenal would be willing to sell ox this transfer window. If he's available then 30 million is roughly the price needed to get him in. He's not happy at wing back and that's the role he'd likely play at Chelsea so he probably favours a move to us. It'll be a decent start to what will hopefully be a good few days in the transfer market.

1.) 25 Aug 2017 20:10:03
Don't need him n he can't play in goal!

2.) 25 Aug 2017 20:44:19
I really don't understand the clamour for Oxlade-Chamberlain.

He's not a bad player, but even in his wildest fantasies, he's not going to displace Mane and Salah from the wing positions, and we need a someone with a bit of guile who can pick a final ball in central midfield, and I don't see how the Ox is even as good as our existing options in that respect, much less better than them.

Are we that desperate for squad depth? Because even if Coutinho leaves and Lallana being out for nearly half the season, I don't see him being in our best XI. And I'd rather work with Grujic and Woodburn as squad players and develop them.

3.) 25 Aug 2017 21:10:26
To be honest Gents it doesn't look like we are getting anyone else. Ox wouldn't be my first choice but he's a decent enough player. If he comes in what's the worst that can happen. Might as well get behind him and what will be will be.

4.) 25 Aug 2017 21:31:34
What's the worst that can happen? Did you see what happened to Arsenal when they played him in centre midfield or how he got schooled by France's midfield? Frankly I don't want compromises and we've had enough panic buys and make do signings. He simply isn't good enough to improve our starting 11 and is not needed.

5.) 25 Aug 2017 21:51:06
Mr Dennis the what will be will be is the fact that it doesn't matter what me or you say it's not going to effect whether Klopp signs him or not. If it happens then the least we owe the lad is our support and patience. Like I said he wouldn't be my first choice and in fairness he would be way down my list of choices but it doesn't look like we're signing anyone else. This window has been the most hyped for years but the disappointment and let down of previous windows is again all too familiar.

6.) 25 Aug 2017 21:53:54
Jayden, if we're getting into the realm of buying "decent enough" players, then I'd rather we do it at center back where we urgently need improvement rather than signing a winger who can also play center mid.

7.) 25 Aug 2017 21:59:18
We should b thinking defence defence defence.

8.) 25 Aug 2017 22:04:34
Something red I'd love us to buy a centre back and a new keeper. Unfortunately it's Klopp and our transfer guys doing the business. Signing Ox to improve the squad whilst nailing all our other main targets would be great business. Ox on his own will be like a damp squib.

9.) 25 Aug 2017 22:34:57
He would improve both our central midfield and wide attack strength in depth options considerably. There's still a chance he could develop into an outstanding player with the right coaching. For these reasons I feel he's worth a go.

10.) 25 Aug 2017 23:14:49
He is an upgrade to Can and Milner for sure.

Dont understand another utility player again.

Cheers.

11.) 25 Aug 2017 23:45:32
How is Oxlade an upgrade on Can? He's not a patch on Can in central midfield. Have any of you actually seen him play in central midfield? Because if you had you would say that he's awful, because he lacks any of the fundamentals skills to play there and doesn't have the mental discipline. I urge you to watch him being made to look like a non league footballer by Kante and Pogba when France played England.

12.) 26 Aug 2017 00:26:53
How old is Ox? Why don't people think he can improve. Why does everyone slag off any player before they kick a ball for the club, let alone get a season it dare I say 2.

13.) 26 Aug 2017 00:52:56
He lacks the skill or intelligence to be a top class footballer. Buying him is the same as every other mistake we've made in every other transfer window as far back as you care to go. Signing him is no different to Adam, Cole, Downing, Carroll, Balotelli, Markovic Etc as he's a very very average player who is over priced that we are going to throw a ridiculous bag of money at, whilst our best player packs his bags and goes to Barcelona. This is literally history repeating itself.

14.) 26 Aug 2017 01:22:05
Where is Cover of calibre for mane or salah in the squad? nowhere. If klopp likes ox then I'm all for it. However, a defence in place that makes literally everybody nervous is a glaring discrepancy that needed to be addressed at the beginning of the window. Myself and my cousin are over from Limerick (Steve finnan country) for the weekend, to push through a deal for Kevin Doyle so we will be fine going forward for the season, but where's the deal for McShane deal we've all been crying out for?

15.) 26 Aug 2017 02:15:30
Clamour. lovely word and so applicable to a transfer saga, especially an agents pre-deadline do when only the excitement of the 50/ 50 egg-mayo crust ridden sarnies and lemo topped jarg preseco champagne flutes, is the only fulfillmemt the leaches of all but freebie journalists can endure to ensure a feeble yet click-bait article to appease the vultures.

16.) 26 Aug 2017 09:15:37
All of this ox talk wreaks of desperation, just to satisfy peoples need to see signings. Ox has been playing in the league for nearly a decade and has not improved one bit, i fail to see what will change with us. I would prefer to continue to develop woodburn, grugic and kent than waste money on someone who does not either improve the team or the squad significantly.

{Ed002's Note - It is not desperation as Klopp likes him and the interest has been known for months. Hopeless.}

17.) 26 Aug 2017 10:17:36
I'd rather we didn't sign anyone at all if the only player we were looking at bringing in was Oxlade. We need players that can turn us from also rans into competing for titles and that is not a player who's output is appalling and severely lacking, the fact that he's an England international shows the dearth of quality available. £35m+ for a very ordinary player in the last year of his contract makes no sense at all. Then taken in context of the almost inevitability of Pipco leaving and it's a baffling decision as he brings none of the qualities that Pipco has. The only thing he does is run around like a headless chicken and her injured.

18.) 26 Aug 2017 11:08:57
Ox is an upgrade on Can, Samikewell? Wow, thank heavens you don't run transfer business at LFC. We would be in the Conference by now.

19.) 26 Aug 2017 11:42:03
Have you seen how light that midfield can be with a couple of injuries? Ed002 have said it a million times that Klopp has always liked Ox, and we know he can play a number of positions. Why not give him a chance and judge him when he becomes a Liverpool player, if that ever happens? He has also expressed his love for Liverpool and considers Stevie G a mentor. Gini is a bit off-color at the moment; Can may be gone next year; Henderson's injury could flair up at any point in time given the kind of injury. Then Countinho is . Countinho. Then we have Milner, who's now probably better as a left back than a midfielder. So why is Oxlade such a bad idea?

20.) 26 Aug 2017 12:00:49
Noski it's a bad idea because he's not a central midfielder. Imagine putting Oxlade up against Matic and Pogba? Or Kante and Bakayoko? Or Dier and Dembele? We'd get played off the park. He's not up to the job. End of story.

21.) 26 Aug 2017 14:37:03
The difference is Mr Dennis is Ox is a good player. Kanye and Logba are very good players, yes Pogba was woeful last season but for France he's quality and while he was at Juve he was also quality. Ox isn't as good as either of them but unfortunately because we mess about with transfers tapping up etc we will always fall short with signing these very good players if we continue to tap up. Ox would be a good option imo he'd give us options and actually give us some pace on the bench from an attacking perspective it's all well and good people saying Origi can play out wide but honestly he's wasted there so Ox is a good option!

22.) 27 Aug 2017 08:12:14
Mr Dennis, it seems that people are trying way too hard to sell this notion that Ox is a good player whereas there is NO basis in reality that any of that is true. Ox is not better than Mane nor Salah out wide. He is supremely inferior to Can, Lallana, Wiji and Hendo and he is not fit to carry Cou's toilet bag. Those are the facts, plain and simple. This guy is worse than a passenger in central midfield, has NO end product out wide and is a poor defender at wingback so again, what will he add to our team/ "An option" people say. What option will he add? What quality will he add? You cannot add what you don't have. The only quality he has is that just like the other poor players like Gibbs, Walcott and Barkley, they are English hence, English bias towards them in the media coverage. Were he not English, no one would care for any of these woeful players. Ox is pants and the fact that Klopp may want him, changes none of that.

Eds is there any truth that Joe Gomez might be going to Nottingham Forest on loan?9.

RedTed21

{Ed001's Note - not as far as I am aware.}

1.) 31 Jul 2017 12:15:23
He wouldn't drop down to them minnows surely.

2.) 31 Jul 2017 14:11:06
Thanks Ed!

{Ed001's Note - welcome.}

20 May 2017 00:12:19
Hi Eds, I've been reading recent paper talk and seen links to Timo Werner, is there any truth to to theses rumours? As I feel he'd be a better alternative to Lacazette (who I previously said I wanted us to sign) based on what I've seen of him recently and on highlights. Also what are your thoughts on him? Thank you in advance.

RedTed21

{Ed002's Note - RBL's Timo Werner was of interest to Spurs before he left Stuttgart but that interest seems to have gone. The German press have been asking Werner about Liverpool but he has remained respectful about the club but has not mentioned any interest. RBL have said nothing since they mentioned that scouts from Chelsea and Liverpool attended a game in December where Werner scored against Hertha Berlin and in January Liverpool and Dortmund scouts watched him score against Eintracht Frankfurt. Given he only joined RBL last summer and his season is going well with Leipzig more than likely being in the Champions League next season, RBL will not be looking to sell and I doubt he will be looking for a move.}

Can any of the Eds confirm if Coutinho had actually gone on strike and is refusing to train and play? A lot of people have talked about this on here in the past 24hrs so was just looking for some clarity. If it's true that he's doing this then I'd honestly just tell Barcelona pay x amount of money up front with x amount in add ons and let him go, don't want players acting like that no matter how good they are. Thank you in advance Eds.

RedTed21

{Ed002's Note - You could read the posts.}

1.) 21 Aug 2017 00:45:10
Not sure if some people on here can read ed002, hence the same questions over and over. Groundhog Day!

2.) 21 Aug 2017 09:41:32
Was only asking because nobody has actually confirmed this.

{Ed002's Note - I have explained that he has not made himself available but training or for games. This is because he wants to leave. It has been explained over and over.}

3.) 21 Aug 2017 10:33:09
Thank you.

17 Aug 2017 19:28:58
What are people thoughts on the best possible 11 + subs from the whole of the BPL? I know it isn't Liverpool related but it's better than talking about Keita VVD and couts constantly.
De Gea
Coleman (when fit) Alderwiereld Kompany (when fit) Bertrand
Alli Matic KDB
Mane Kane Hazard
4-3-3
Subs- Lloris, Luiz, Azpilicuetta, Kante, Silva, Aguero, Sturridge (when fit)
Sturridge is there because when fit I think he's honestly one of the best strikers in the league.
What are other people's teams?

RedTed21

1.) 17 Aug 2017 19:40:47
Kante?!

2.) 17 Aug 2017 19:44:33
Lloris
Azpilicueta, Kompany, Bailly, Bertrand
Kante, Matic
Mane, Alli, Coutinho
Aguero

Courtois, Alderweireld, Alonso, Dembele, Firmino, Hazard, Kane.

3.) 17 Aug 2017 19:46:18
Much as I love sturridge, realistically he hasn't been at his best since 2014. Nowhere near a prem 11. He's not even our first choice striker.

4.) 17 Aug 2017 19:46:57
Based on last years performance:

De Gea
Walker Alderwiereld David Luiz Danny rose
Kante
Alli KDB
Sanchez Costa Hazard.

5.) 17 Aug 2017 19:47:52
He's been the best player in the league for 2 seasons running. Surely that's worth a place in the 1st 11?

6.) 17 Aug 2017 19:58:36
Good one ninja 👍.

7.) 17 Aug 2017 19:58:38
For me is de gea, bellerin, toby, david luiz, azpilicueta, mane, kante, alli, hazard, aguero, kane.

8.) 17 Aug 2017 19:58:51
Forgot De Bruyne! Would have him on the bench instead of Firmino (just) .

3 years ago David Silva would have been first name on my team sheet so in my posturing over whether to include him i completely forgot about KDB his team mate 😂.

9.) 17 Aug 2017 20:03:59
Surprised at Sanchez being picked. Since he has moved to striker I've found him to be a little bit ineffective in a lot of games. Not as effective as Aguero or Kane. Sanchez played far more games than them last season but still ended up with similar goal tallies. As wide players, i find Mane, Coutinho and Hazard are all better than him now. Going forward we were scintillating. Many (even non LFC) were picking Mane as player of the season last year even though he missed a third of it. I'm with the OP on evicting Sanchez. Great player still, but I'd take Mane, Coutinho and Hazard over him every day.

{Ed001's Note - Alexis Sanchez played wide a lot still, he was the best attacker in the league unti he got fed up carrying 10 players on his back week after week.}

10.) 17 Aug 2017 20:05:43
Based on last season for me it would have to be

De Gea
Coleman Alderweireld Vertonghen Bertrand
Kante Dembele
Mane Coutinho De Bruyne
Sanchez.

11.) 17 Aug 2017 20:24:10
Ed 001 what would your team be?

{Ed001's Note - de Gea in goal. Alderweireld, Luiz and Vertonghen as the back 3. Rose and Walker as wing backs. Dembele and Kante in the centre. Sanchez and Hazard behind Kane. I am not a fan of a back 3, but it is about picking the best players in a shape that suits.}

12.) 17 Aug 2017 20:34:31
De tea
Walker VV dyke Vertonghen Rose
Kante
De Byrne
Mane Hazard
Aguero Kane.

13.) 17 Aug 2017 20:43:09
Isn't it a bit worrying he got fed up though Ed? Suarez carried us to the title and Sanchez as equal if not more natural ability, as well as marginally more skilled team mates than Suarez had.

It definitely says more about his team mates attitude than his, but it disappointed me to see Sanchez throw in the towel. He was my favourite non-LFC player at one stage so i think it took a bit of shine off my opinion of him to see him stomping about with a face like a slapped ass.

{Ed001's Note - why? He still performed well, he just got dropped, then Wenger had to bring him back in to rescue them, which he did. He was excellent, it was his teammates that let him down and it was not so much his performances dipping as theirs meaning he was not getting as much of the ball, instead spending more of the game chasing back as the team were not playing well. Wenger made a terrible decision in backing the lazy tits, rather than backing Sanchez.}

14.) 17 Aug 2017 21:22:34
Fair point Ed, i see what you mean. In hindsight perhaps Wenger should've just put his entire u23's side in the first team with Sanchez to lead them 😂 they certainly wouldn't have lacked a bit of passion then!

It was still sad to see such a model pro give up though. Even if he was still their best player at a stroll.

{Ed001's Note - I don't think he gave up on trying to win games, just gave up on the future being at Arsenal.}

15.) 17 Aug 2017 21:49:17
De Gea, Azpilicueta, Alderweireld, Verthonghen, Rose, Kante, KDB, Coutinho, Sanchez, Hazzard, Kane.

Subs: David Luiz, Walker, Wanyama, David Silva, Mane, Aguero.

16.) 18 Aug 2017 08:32:09
Sanchez is the best all-round player in the PL, period. He is the one I would sign to replace Cou as he will fit the way we play like a glove.

16 Aug 2017 21:09:12
Eds what other CB's have Liverpool looked at minus VVD and Kouliably? Thank you in advance.

RedTed21

{Ed002's Note - None that I am aware of aside from a youngster.}

1.) 16 Aug 2017 21:58:57
Ed002, is the youngster in the posts or podcast?

{Ed002's Note - It is history - move on.}

2.) 16 Aug 2017 21:59:07
Well that was clever of us eh?

3.) 16 Aug 2017 22:03:06
Okay thank you.

4.) 16 Aug 2017 22:04:31
And keep up the good work (all the eds) it's much appreciated.

5.) 16 Aug 2017 22:48:10
No worries Ed.

15 Aug 2017 22:55:27
GK- Mignolet although he did well tonight I think Ward or Karius should be given a go.
RB- TAA all day long over Clyne unless TAA's form really slips
CB- please just sign VVD
LB- please start playing Robertson (i know he may not be match fit etc but when he is he needs to play)
CDM- is okay Can Hendo looks lost atm
CM- Lallana when fit and a new CM hopefully Keita if not then Seri or Lanzini
Wingers- Mane and Salah need Ox to come in imo can't rely on these two to play all games this season. Kent will be given chances too but I don't see origi as a winger he's poor there
ST- Firmino should start most games, a fully fit Sturridge will push all the way, Solanke will be pushing for game time too he's ahead of origi in order imo. Ings will likely play for u23's when he's back
CB, CM (unless Coutinho stays) and winger required.

RedTed21

1.) 15 Aug 2017 23:28:32
VVD is not going to sign, he's off to Chelsea.

I'd rather give Kent games than waste money on Oxlade Chamberlain, besides he's off to Chelsea for silly money.

If CDM is going so well, why are teams running through our midfield so easily?

Lanzini isn't a centre midfielder, he's a number 10.

Seri is seen as an alternative Keita, Keita was not seen as a replacement for Coutinho.

As it is we are the weak link in the top six. We have 15 days to put it right. The answer isn't Lanzini, Ox or Gibson.

2.) 15 Aug 2017 23:59:16
Who would you sign then? Just like to hear your thoughts on who we should sign?

3.) 16 Aug 2017 00:22:10
Only 7 players on the team? That is very generous 😂.

4.) 16 Aug 2017 01:10:39
Seri has previously said he doesn't want to play in England. So forget that one. RBL don't want to sell Keita. Personally, I'm almost at the point where I think I'd rather we didn't sign anyone than scrape the bottom of the barrel with signings like Rakitic, Oxlade and Gibson, as it would be repeating the same stupid mistakes that we have always made (Cole, Downing, Poulsen, Konchesky, Jovanovic, Carroll, Adam, Diouff, Cheyrou Etc) and maybe our board and management deserve to see the folly of their frankly awful mistakes that they've made played out in a very difficult season, reap what you sew and all that.

I know who I'd like us to sign, but it's all academic because it won't happen and we don't move effectively enough in the market to make them happen in any case.

This is going to be a very long and difficult season.

15 Aug 2017 22:24:20
Well one thing to say. Mane and TAA well done! Absolutely quality, Mignolet made good saves, Salah did okay needs more composure etc. Can did a decent job. Apart from them everyone else needs to go up a gear at least if we want to be challenging for trophies this year. Still lack a quality CM unless Coutinho stays and I can't wait for Robertson to start playing and a CB to sing we're crying out for one. Anyway we got a good win let's just capitalise on home support in 2nd leg and get ourselves back where we belong. YNWA.

RedTed21

1.) 15 Aug 2017 22:39:59
Singing centre back? Can't be much worse than Lovren I suppose.

2.) 15 Aug 2017 22:50:38
Meant to say sign aha but I agree I mean even my Grandma could do a better job and she's 75.

Clearly they're bidding when we're playing our qualifier because they want us to lose so they don't get us in their group because they're scared of another 4-0 smashing just this time they think it will be more because of the extra pace we have in Salah
On a more serious note though we shouldn't sell him now, it's too late in the transfer window to be faffing about trying to get new players in. I feel like if we're singing new players we have to see some activity before Arsenal game.

We still lack quality in CM, yes when Lallana is back we get a good player back and when window shuts Coutinho will have to start playing etc for World Cup. Still think another CM is needed, depth was our downfall last season. For me CM (Keita or Goretzka), VVD for CB and Ox for wing.

BingoRed let's be honest Coutinho doesn't want to be at the club I can't see him playing to the level he did last year despite it being a World Cup year. He's handed in a TR so there is the desire to leave the club yes he's one of our best players but when a better team come after players they usually get their man. Mane and Firmino haven't asked to leave so that's irrelevant.

There will be interest in Mane but I genuinely think he'll stay at the club for many years to come because he is the one player that can take us to the next level imo not Coutinho. We compete by improving other areas of the team, if Coutinho goes which he probably will imo by singing a CB who's better than we currently have, a CM who has the potential to be a world class player (Keita) and someone to add extra depth and quality Ox we're a better team than Coutinho staying and only signing one of those players. I know what I'd rather have and that's having players 100% committed to the club!

I'm hoping for at least 2 players to come in. A quality CB and either a CM or Winger. Both of Pipco leaves which I think he might if Barcelona offered something like £110 m up front with £25-35 m in add ons. I'd let him go for that if I'm honest. I can't really see a way back for him, he's a quality player and will be missed but I'd rather have players 100% committed to the cause.

Let Coutinho go that's what I think, we've done fine without him so far so take the money (as long as price is right) and re invest in 3 players, CB, CM and winger. If we could bring in VVD or Koulibaly defence is stronger, If we bring in Keita for CM yes we lose the creativity of Pipco but Keita might well turn out to be an absolute world beater and bring in Ox because Klopp likes him and he'd fit our system. For me signing 3 players like the above 3/ 4 mentioned we're a stronger side.
