Let’s not get into speculation but I sincerely hope Jurgen is ok and nothing serious is wrong with him.

When even your manager is getting injured or ill, its safe to say that lady luck does not fancy LFC much anyways. Hopefully the team pull together and send Southampton back home with their tails between their legs.

16 Nov 2017 08:19:41
Just waiting for that muppet on twitter to blame his training regime!

15 Nov 2017 19:27:09
I’d like to get peoples thoughts on this team I feel if we have this team next season we can’t really challenge!
Karius/ Ward
Gomez/ New rb De Vrij Van Dijk Moreno
Grujic/ Hendo
Keita Lallana/ Lemar
Salah Firmino Mane
Subs: Ward/ Karius Gomez/ new rb Lovren Hendo/ Grujic Lallana/ Lemar ox Solanke
I think that is a strong side and bench! The right back id sign would be pereira from Porto if he’s back from his loan.

Believable3 Unbelievable4

15 Nov 2017 20:56:33
I can't see us signing VVD mste if we bring in a CB like De vrij in January tbh. Will be just one in.

15 Nov 2017 22:34:53
The midfield of Grujic and Henderson is too weak mate.
Never mind just one of them.

16 Nov 2017 06:57:20
where is wijnaldum?

16 Nov 2017 07:02:07
Kloppsreds, he meant after next summer. There will certainly be 2 new CBs at the club. De Vrij and VVD look the most likely and no doubt it would make the new Holland manager happy to have his first choice CBs at the same club.

16 Nov 2017 12:52:56
trent?

15 Nov 2017 19:03:28
Evening Ed001

I see Coutinho has returned to training and seems to be fit. Do you still expect him not to play for us again? I guess there is time yet for him to get injured again🤔.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I would be disappointed if Klopp picked him again, he does not deserve to wear the shirt.}

15 Nov 2017 19:39:31
Agree ed1 his heads gone even for Brazil. I don't even think he will be a success where ever he ends up, different animal to Suarez.

15 Nov 2017 20:13:56
And Suarez proved he was an animal.

15 Nov 2017 20:57:27
I agree ed but I can see Klopp starting him. Especially with Mane out.

15 Nov 2017 22:41:02
Is it possible that his not playing could just be lfc preserving their £100m asset? If he gets injured the plans are screwed, as is the profit.

15 Nov 2017 23:41:45
if he does not play from now until January, will Barcelona still offer a huge sum? Pretty clear he isn't wanted, might they try with a lower offer and say take it or be stuck with a player who doesn't want to be there?

16 Nov 2017 03:37:22
Firmane - I can see your logic, but at this stage I feel like both clubs will find something reasonable for them both.

16 Nov 2017 07:03:41
Actually Ed001, i would go one better and throw him onto the pitch in stoppage time after we have comfortably nailed the victory. Show him we don't tolerate traitors nor do we need him anymore.

15 Nov 2017 14:22:41
Ed001, with Gomez clearly moving to centre back long term, and Arnold expected to move into midfield eventually, is it possible Clyne may play again when fit with Gomez moving inside next to (hopefully) De Vrij?

I suppose the alternative is Gomez stays at right back and we endure Matip for a bit longer?

Or could we see a right back in January? Seems a lot to ask in a January Window, but a centre back and a right back for me, sorts out our defence. Just need Karius or Ward to step up and we'd be massively improved in my opinion.

Just after your opinion mate.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - I expect the arrival of a new centre back, we have been looking for one for a while. I really do not see Clyne getting back into the team and Gomez and Arnold will provide cover there until someone is brought in. Might not be this summer even.}

15 Nov 2017 14:38:55
Cheers Ed. Assuming Gomez stays at right back then, who would you play alongside any new centre back?

Matip, Lovren or Klavan? (spoilt for choice)

I think on current form I'd pick Klavan, but if Lovren gets his head straight, he's by far the best of that trio.

{Ed001's Note - Lovren.}

15 Nov 2017 17:52:08
Hi eds1you say in the post above “mite not be the summer even” about getting a right back I think.
Is there a reason for this. I thought we have been looking for a few windows now.
Also have we got money to spend if needed to fix defence poss goal kicker?
As always thanks for taking the time to answer everyone’s questions 👍🏻.

{Ed001's Note - because the priority is centre backs and replacing the two who are leaving. That leaves right back down the list and there are also two players there that can get regular game time in the slot, so it is not so bad leaving it for now.}

15 Nov 2017 19:00:42
The 2 that are leaving ed? 🤔.

{Ed001's Note - C&C Music Factory - Couts and Can.}

15 Nov 2017 19:06:23
Argh right ok mate, sorry I was thinking Centre backs lol. Yeah let's just get rid and move on mate.

15 Nov 2017 20:36:46
Thanks mate 👍🏼.

15 Nov 2017 22:42:25
Quite depressing when you say it like that, Ed. I know Couts has been throwing a strop all season and Can wants out for different reasons. However, one is currently world class and I believe the other will one day join the other.

Will the replacements hit the ground running or be the right pick?

One day I’d love a team of scousers who’d play out of their skin and up the standard so we could keep hold of them instead of having to deal with these prima donnas every other year.

15 Nov 2017 20:39:27
Thing's that make you go humm! Ed😁.

{Ed001's Note - so you remember them? I wasn't sure if anyone would.}

15 Nov 2017 21:18:17
Ed001 - so does this mean they are both actually leaving? Irony now is unlike last window, we probably all now want it to happen, let’s just hope we get a decent price for Couts and it’s enough to stomach Can going for a free (abroad hopefully so he doesn’t do the usual and come back to haunt us! )

{Ed001's Note - both want out.}

16 Nov 2017 10:57:21
Toonred - the entire population of Liverpool is less than half a mil. Even the whole of Cheshire is only just a million. The chances of a team of people from that pool alone being good enough to challenge with the best ever again sadly isn't big.

15 Nov 2017 11:05:10
Eds i have just read about a possibility of a world cup reject tournament . please tell me this is just rubbish!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I assume this is the US Soccer/MLS idea back again. It could well be possible but clubs will be against releasing players to an unendorsed competition (and that is the real problem) which means that National sides would need to look to youngsters, old, fringe players and that will not suit them. It has been suggested several times in the past by various nations but never goes anywhere.}

15 Nov 2017 14:04:11
I think it would be a decent idea myself. Who doesn't want to watch semi finals of Lichtenstein vs San Marino and Jamaica vs Andorra?

We all want to see world class players on display. As long as Scotland and ROI aren't involved it'll still be a great spectacle 😉.

15 Nov 2017 14:28:27
I can just imagine it is 15 years time:
"hey Andy! Remember the great clash of 2022 in the reject world cup final between Estonia and New Zealand"
"ahhh yes i do Keith! That battle between Ragnar Klavan and Winston Reid was a thing of beauty"

15 Nov 2017 23:43:47
The only way it would be interesting if it was like the Europa league where a place in next World Cup was up for grabs.

16 Nov 2017 08:29:19
Still too soon mk 😢.

15 Nov 2017 09:54:37
any chance of an updated list of elite youngsters/ wonderkids from around world football ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I asked someone for a list recently - it is here somewhere. Else remind me next week please.}

15 Nov 2017 10:15:20
I saved it to my phone because I'm a sad act 😂

{Ed002's Note - It is very difficult to make such predictions but someone in the know suggests it is worth keeping an eye out for Josip Brekalo (who nearly ended up at Everton a while back), Atakan Akkaynak (who could well end up in the Premier League next year), Adrien Bongiovanni (could end up being on the fringes this year, still one to look out for in the future) and, particularly, Steven Bergwijn. }

Enjoy you-tubing Bergwijn! I know i did 😂

In contrast (i believe it was) Ed001 also offered up Mbappe, Dybala and Asensio as the 3 players he sees competing for the Ballon D'or over the next decade. They're more well known i suppose though.

{Ed002's Note - Thanks. Another is Pietro Pellegri - a 16 year old that has already been the subject of a discussion with a Premier League side with talk of a a €50M and a three year loan back.}

15 Nov 2017 10:37:15
Someone wants help with their football manager team ;)

15 Nov 2017 10:26:47
No problem Ed002. Saves you having to bother your contact by asking again 😊

Wow, €50m for a 16 year old 😲 incredible where football is headed! Do you ever see there being a transfer for €500m+ Ed002, or do you think the bubble has to burst at some point? If/ when this break away league happens it will take all the money in the game with it, and in my opinion €500m will be easily affordable. In fact i would not be surprised if there is a player transferred for €1billion in the next 20 years.

{Ed002's Note - Once the breakaway comes it is probable that transfer fees will keep on rising for the "elite" sides and they will need to be capped somehow for the rest of the leagues. The "elite" sides are getting together on December 12th for one of their regular meetings - there is no agenda yet but the breakaway could come up again.}

15 Nov 2017 11:27:54
Thanks Ed. Keep up the good work.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

15 Nov 2017 17:34:51
Ed002. Hi I remember you said before that some of the elite sides don't like to do business with Liverpool. Are we any closer to getting a seat at these meetings?

After the shambles of the summer are we starting to get our act together in terms of relationships with over clubs? and have we learnt any lessons in terms of future transfer dealings?

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool won't be attending any of these meetings any time soon.}

15 Nov 2017 17:42:56
Eds 002, not after too much info but are LFC excluded because of FSG or a previous owners behaviour, just curious.

{Ed002's Note - It is unimportant.}

15 Nov 2017 22:17:02
And that’s why this elite league will never happen. Surely the idea of an elite league would be that the majority of football fans would support one of the elite teams in it. As Liverpool are one of the most supported teams in the world that rules out a lot of people. Plus, who would care if there was an elite league of European teams when your own team has no chance of ever joining it? I certainly wouldn’t watch it. It’s not what football is about for me. The Huddersfields need to have a chance to play against the best. The Leicesters need to have a chance of winning the league. It’s what makes our game exciting. You take that away and it just doesn’t mean anything.
The Champions League is kind of an elite league now but at least the lower teams like Leicester and Spurs can get in to it.
I like most fans want us in the champions league so we can afford the players to win the premier league. The CL just doesn’t fill me with the same excitement of a premier league game.
In short, this elite league is a complete non starter and would be the death of football.

{Ed002's Note - You are living in a strange world - none of it is about Liverpooo.}

15 Nov 2017 07:39:46
Well played young Joe
Hopefully a great future ahead for the lad
Looked like he’d played there for years
Had that Neymar bloke in his pocket!

Believable9 Unbelievable1

15 Nov 2017 08:50:28
I did not see the game, but watched the Mr Boywunda clip on youtube covering his performance. My gosh did he look composed and classy. We have a proper player on our hands here lads! Looking forward to seeing him at center half for us in the future. hopefully not too distant future as we clearly are in dire need of one now!

15 Nov 2017 09:19:47
I wasn’t going to watch the game but as it was Brazil i thought I would check it out.
Gomez did have a great game, really calm and composed under constant attack from Neymar and co.

15 Nov 2017 10:40:02
I thought he did well under constant attack, I know I’ll get stuck for this but I struggle to see what Eric dier brings to the table, I know it’s just a friendly but I thought the midfield were rather ineffectual at helping the defence so kudos even more so to lads at the back.

15 Nov 2017 10:27:37
I wish i had €200m in my pocket 😭.

15 Nov 2017 11:42:44
I like Dier, but he is so limited on the ball. He is an auxiliary centre back. Ask him to just protect the defence and he's great. He can either drop in to make a back 3 or get out wide to cover an attacking full back.

In a 3-4-3 though that England played he is unnecessary. If you already have 3 centre backs you do not need one in midfield as well (as there are no gaps for him to drop into constantlyz) . Livermore is defensive enough. The other midfielder should've been Loftus Cheek so that Lingard could've started. Not Cheek behind the strikers and two midfielders behind him who can't pass. Dier should've been in the back 3 instead of the useless Maguire who tried his hardest to give Brazil a goal and got rescued by Hart 2 or 3 times.

I don't think Pochettino has ever played Dier in midfield when he plays a back 3. Dier is always part of the 3 from what I've seen. The midfielders are normally 2 from Wanyama, Dembele, Winks and Sissoko. 4 centre backs in one team is excessive to say the least.

15 Nov 2017 13:35:28
Dier lived up to his nametotally ineffectual and slow of mind and pace do not see what all the fuss is about him said after game Gomez was immense and come on jurgen give solanke a chance Bobbi was his usual thoughtful self I'm not going to mention the other player on show wasted enough words and energy on him well done lads.

14 Nov 2017 23:33:43
When will we know how long mane is out for. Does anyone know how ward did for wales tonight. Surely he at least deserves a chance from klopp. Mignolet can’t look better than both him and Karius in training cos from his game day displays Mignolet isn’t cutting the crust.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

15 Nov 2017 06:51:16
What training shows depends upon who is looking and what they choose to look at. If one of the 3 isn't competent at gk drills then they wouldn't be there. At this stage most training might be about setting up selected team for the next match which isn't really a trial so it is really down to them wanting to change before you get a change.

15 Nov 2017 06:59:07
Ward had very little to do. comfortable with the ball at his feet that's about all that can be said from last nights game!

14 Nov 2017 21:27:10
hi Ed001 I know we don't agree on Firmino's best position but I wondered if we agree on the defence. You stated in the summer it was too much to change most of the back four and the keeper for obvious reasons. But its now more apparent that drastic action is needed and we need a minimum of 3 new players in the back 5.

If we get one solid centre back in the January window I will settle for that. I am now strongly of the opinion that new player should take Matip's place. The first Spurs goal sums him up perfectly. No desire and no willingness to help the team. He is also so poor in the air for his size. I don't call him a defender anymore because he does no bloody defending.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - 3?? We need 2 right now, the right backs just need to be allowed to develop, left back is ok, we have keepers, they just need a chance. So that leaves the centre backs, who do desperately need upgrading, and I agree on Matip 100%. If we do nothing else, he has to be replaced.}

15 Nov 2017 06:45:25
So you say replace Matip and not Lovren?

{Ed001's Note - no, both of us say Matip is the priority, not that he is the only one that needs replacing.}

15 Nov 2017 07:32:04
Gomez replaces Lovren, VVD replaces Matip.

15 Nov 2017 08:29:34
Honestly think klavan is most reliable CB out of the three, yes he's slow, but he wants to be there and puts it in, still has a mistake on him, but can't get close and physical with players, just lack do pace in behind.

15 Nov 2017 08:29:44
Thanks ed001. 3 players are what I think will be needed by the start of next season (maybe it will include a defensive midfielder) . I will be more than happy for one solid centre back in the short term.

Main attribute needed, mentally strong and a leader.

{Ed001's Note - leaders seem to be few and far between these days, players no longer seem able to do anything other than what they are told.}

15 Nov 2017 11:41:32
Out of interest Ed001 how much of that do you think is down to management styles, wanting to basically control everything rigidly and how much is down to just producing generations who are either incapable or unwilling to have that sort of think for yourself attitude? Or is there something else to it?

{Ed001's Note - both of the above and the academy system, which produces players who are indoctrinated into working with the modern tactical manager, who only wants chess pieces to fit into his tactical plan.}

15 Nov 2017 22:03:11
Thanks for the response Ed001.

14 Nov 2017 19:17:38
Hi Ed01, since you’re on a roll with the questions; what’s your take on Totti v Del Piero. Before you answer assume we’re in a safe environment and your ma isn’t holding anything to your head there ed 😜.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I prefer Del Piero, though I have a lot of respect for Totti being a one club man, because of it he stopped himself being able to compete regularly for trophies. Totti was fantastically creative, but, like is usual in Italian football, he was very much a passenger when the ball was turned over, Del Piero did off a little bit more in that respect.}

15 Nov 2017 07:06:29
Thanks ed. As a neutral it’s hard to pick between the two, though I’d probably lean towards ADP as well. They seem to have an abundance of these “second strikers” the last time eh. Just thought I’d asked in light of their failure to qualify. Thanks again ed.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate. It is very close between them. Both were great players, though they would have suffered like Ozil if they had played in England!}

15 Nov 2017 14:34:41
Totti, Del Piero, Di Natale etc.

How times have changed 😭.

15 Nov 2017 16:20:37
Both really special players in my opinion, very gifted and capable of providing moments of absolute magic - I would just about, by the tiniest degree, choose Totti, simply because I thought the magic he came up with was just a touch better than Del Piero's. Pretty difficult to split them though and I think really comes down to preference and nothing else.
