Helder Costa is apparently of interest. He fits the profile; fast left winger with a good goal return.

He tore us to pieces earlier in the season and has been directly involved in 18 goals this season for a struggling Wolves side (20th in the Championship) .

What are peoples thoughts on him? At 23 years old he is probably more first team ready than the likes of Brandt or Malcom. Plus he is already settled into England and English football so could probably hit the ground running.

It all looks good on paper, but I have only seen him play 3 times so not really got a lot in the way of seeing him play to make a judgement.

Believable0 1Unbelievable

{Ed001's Note - I have watched him a few times now and he does not impress me. Great ability on the ball, but chooses the wrong option every single time. One of those head down and run until it gets taken off him or he launches it into row Z. Then he will get the ball right once and it is a goal. So he is capable. Reminds me a little of a slower but more skilful Aaron Lennon to be honest.}

26 Feb 2017 10:29:15
Got to say Ed, I watched his highlight reels shortly after posting this and my exact thought was "this guy is like the Portuguese Sterling". He looked so hell bent on not releasing the ball and that is just his 'best' bits!

If this mornings rumours are true we are interested in him as a summer signing. As good as he was at Anfield, after watching his highlights and hearing your opinion I am not overly optimistic!

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - I have made a point of watching Wolves in recent weeks as quite a few people were looking at him, I would not be keen on him at the cost he would be. Plus his agent, Mendes. Seems a nice guy in person, but he is a proper superagent that knows how to maximise his players' earning potential. Not the kind of man you want to deal with, as you will not win in a deal like that.}

26 Feb 2017 10:53:57
Do we gave interest then ed?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - I don't know, it wasn't our interest that made me take a look, it was Everton's, as they were taking a long look at him prior to the January window.}

26 Feb 2017 11:08:49
If we actually wanted to sign him, wouldn't it have been better to deal directly with Benfica before he made his move permanent to Wolves last month?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - yep.}

26 Feb 2017 08:56:39
Hey ed are we interested in maxwel cornet of lyon?

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Lyon has said that winger Maxwel Cornet has attracted the scouts from a Premier League side to watch him in recent games but de Kerchove says the club is Newcastle.}

25 Feb 2017 18:48:45
Ed001, you said earlier your priority would be a centre back to partner Matip. Do you know if the club are looking at any in particular? I have only seen lazy journalism surrounding Virgil Van Dijk and Jonathon Tah.

Is it possible Klopp plans to use Gomez after a full pre season to get him fit?

Believable1 0Unbelievable

{Ed001's Note - Gomez is seen as the long term future, but the intention is to use him in cups and as full back cover in the short term. I do expect us to try and pick up another centre back, as the club have been scouting centre halves during the season. A replacement for Sakho is the plan. To that end both those players have been looked at, though both are almost certainly out of reach pricewise.}

25 Feb 2017 22:35:21
Cheers Ed001, I know it was mentioned that we asked about Nacho of Madrid. Perhaps he is more in our budget!

Agree0 0Disagree

26 Feb 2017 00:39:17
Might be a stupid question, but when you say out of reach pricewise, surely you mean more than we'd want to pay for them, not more than we can afford, right? As in, they're priced (much) higher than what we think they're worth. Otherwise, what's the point in wasting our time scouting them?

Agree1 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - I don't understand what difference it makes, nor do I understand what you mean by 'wasting our time scouting them' when you scout for more reasons than buying someone. If we play his team, then any information the scouts have gathered about the players is useful. They might have spotted a weakness to be exploited.}

26 Feb 2017 07:24:13
Spartan, the owners have always maintained that if a player is available and his price can be justified then we will pay it. Considering we have spent £35m on Carroll, Firmino and Mane during their ownership I think it's fair to say they have put their money were there mouth is. Not to mention £20-30m on Lallana, Downing, Suarez, Sakho, Lovren, Markovic, Wijnaldum etc. Especially when you consider that they have had to write off a massive debt LFC owed to FSG and pay off circa £1m a week in losses we were making when they first bought the club. Yet they have still ploughed more money into expanding the stadium, or tying Klopp down to a monster contract.

Therefore I would deduce that if a player is out of our price range it simply means that they are valued at a price higher than can be justified or essentially higher than what we think they are worth. I am not going to complain at the club refusing to overpay! That's just smart, sustainable business behaviour.

26 Feb 2017 09:09:57
Yeah that's what I thought. Thanks.

Agree1 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - sorry that reads harsher than I meant it to. It was not meant to sound so dismissive. I just don't often have time to read back through what I type and make it read like it should do.}

26 Feb 2017 10:13:07
No need to apologize! I understood what you were saying. Thanks for all you do for us!

Agree1 1Disagree

{Ed001's Note - cheers for being understanding.}

23 Feb 2017 11:44:44
Eds are we still interested in Kolasinac?

Believable1 2Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Yes. Nothing has changed and he is aware of a number of options from other clubs that he has - in addition to the offer of a new contract from Schalke.}

23 Feb 2017 13:07:07
Cheers Ed.

Agree1 3Disagree

23 Feb 2017 17:31:37
Is he aware of our offer/ interest ed? From what i've read Juve seems most likely destination.

Agree1 2Disagree

{Ed002's Note - Yes he is aware of the interest from a number of sides. It will become clear soon.}

23 Feb 2017 20:37:00
Ok mate. Will see what develops. Must be nice being in the no lol. He won't be joining us though will he? Am I pushing my luck? Sorrt Ed, I will shut up 😷.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - I have tried to explain the situation as I understand it to be. I cannot answer what will eventually happen.}

25 Feb 2017 10:23:35
Looks like a good player, would work well with Matip.

Agree2 1Disagree

23 Feb 2017 07:49:17
Seen the Gossip page has a quote from Klopp in regards to Dolberg. Has a journo asked him about possible interest and do you think Liverpool may look at him?
Looks like he could be a great striker in years to come, just hadn't seen much of a link between us and him.
I'd have thought he would be a Barca, Madrid, Munich, Man City type target but would be glad if we were in the running.

Thanks in advance eds.

Believable0 1Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - He was asked about Danish players by a Danish journalist during an interview. Chelsea and Manchester City have a declared interest in Ajax's Kasper Dolberg who has also been watched by Manchester United, Rangers, Everton, Sunderland and others.}

23 Feb 2017 11:31:27
As good as he could become we have origi who is our development striker. Anyone who comes in now needs to deliver 2 weeks before they sign. If we want to keep up wi5h the rest but still wish to develop youth then there's an academy for that.

First team ready players now.

Agree6 3Disagree

23 Feb 2017 12:27:48
Supermane, while logical, ethical and sound, I am not sure your approach really works in today's big business, fast profits world of football. Owners, teams and even the fans want quicker, almost immediate winning results, and we all know it.

So while having a grassroots approach of building up and development through academies is the correct one (IMO), the big teams all are using an approach of developing a team of existing senior players, development players (subs and youth teams what-not) and buying the best appropriate players on the market at any given time.

Look at Barcelona with their first team and their famed academy, and yet they are still always on the lokout for the next superstar available on the market. Or look at Chelsea and ManC with their loaned out players (38 and 17) and their ability to cherry pick any player back from a loan if he adds to the first team. (We have 12 players on loan BTW, but perhaps not so cleverly purchased) .

I'm not arguing with you. Just saying that if Klopp and coaches see Dolberg as better (at present and in future) than Origi, then so be it and let's go out and try to buy him. I'm not at all comfortable with the notion that a first team's success should be held back, because we are waiting for players from the subs or youth teams to develop.

It doesn't work, and you certainly don't maximise your chances to win trophies this way. Let's have an approach of creating a team with the best senior squad, the best youth teams possible and buying the best possible players available in the market. Put them all in the mix, and then the best players available, play on any match day.

I agree we may not have the money available as other teams, but then every team should function within its fiscal means anyway, so I'm not even considering this aspect of it.

Agree3 4Disagree

23 Feb 2017 15:52:40
We have enough youngsters in our academy. What we need is a first team players.

Agree5 1Disagree

25 Feb 2017 12:23:29
Ed002, if we we're to move for Dolberg now after Klopps comments, would we not be at risk of a charge for tapping up?

If the guy is a target, Klopp has publically unsettled him. Saw this with Zielinski and Gotze last time out. Hope Jurgen has learned his lesson.

Agree0 1Disagree

{Ed002's Note - No and he has not been a player Liverpool has shown any interest in. He was asked by a Danish journalist if he had heard of Dolberg.}

25 Feb 2017 15:41:24
Ahh good to hear then Ed. Media set him up with a loaded question!

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - No.}

21 Feb 2017 09:29:31
Hi Eds, we scout numerous players throughout the year and was wondering if the interest in Malcolm from Bordeaux is legitimate. I have not seen him a whole lot this year, especially since the most happening young players in Ligue 1 is Mbappe. Thanks Eds.

Believable0 3Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Malcom was of interest to Barcelona, Olympique Marseille, Dynamo Kyiv, Chelsea and Juventus before he left Corinthians for a loan at Girodins Bordeaux to gain some experience. At the time he was expected to join Chelsea but the issues surrounding his ownership was a mess, to say the least. Bordeaux worked hard to untangle matters and persuaded the player to sign a permanent deal which ended a very ugly third party ownership deal with multiple parties involved in January 2016. The head of scouting in France for Chelsea has continued to watch Malcom with scouts from Braga, Juventus, Porto, Liverpool, Southampton, Manchester United and I imagine others taking an interest and watching him play.}

Ruthless on footy man that lad.

Where screwed if the eds started giving us them for answers haha.

20 Feb 2017 17:49:15
Just heard we signed a 16 year old french lad called larouci. No idea if it's true just thought I would share. Was the under 16 captain at Le harve and is due to arrive in a cpl of weeks.

Believable10 1Unbelievable

21 Feb 2017 11:53:49
Yeah on a free. Ask ed if he is avaliabke to play if he's signed.

Academy that produced pogba, payet and mahrez. There captain. Next big thing apparently. Ffing fingers crossed he's not ngog pt2.

The same academy that gave us Florent Sinama Pongolle and Le Tallec.

Agree4 0Disagree

23 Feb 2017 20:40:00
Maybe but at 16yo Le Tallec was considered to be possibly the best player in Europe. The only problem was that he didn't kick on. Certainly when we got him, a lot of people thought we had done better than ManU who happened to have picked up some portuguese kid.

Eds I remember you mentioning interest in Mariano of Real Madrid in January. I've never seen him play or heard of him, is he any good? can't understand why we would go for him unless he will make a huge difference to the first team upfront? As we already have Origi and Ings fighting Firmino with Sturridge looking to be out the door for next season. Anyone else watched him and got an opinion? Cheers.

Believable0 2Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Scouts watch players all of the time and Liverpool are interested in Mariano. I have no way of quantifying if he is "any good".}

20 Feb 2017 15:17:10
Looks as though another striker will be out the door then most likely Ings.

Hi Eds, I know there has been talk about Goetze and Brandt, so I thought I might make a trifecta and ask about Max Meyer. There was rumours of interest last January and there was rumours of interest in the summer. How do you rate him and do you think he may be a option. Cheers.

Believable0 5Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Meyer does however fit the bill of a young attacking midfield player which prompted previous bids from Chelsea (who would have sent him on loan for at least one season before integrating him in to the squad) and Fiorentina in 2014. Schalke 04 do not want to sell the player and made it clear to Spurs and Milan who were showing an interest this past summer that any move was unlikely. The player has shared his desire to play in Spain with Real Madrid or Barcelona or to play in England. Other sides such as Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Arsenal watched him last season but had no real interest. If Liverpool were to lose Coutinho and/or Firmino he could be a player they may look to. Spurs remain interested but Shalke want to keep him so they might return in the summer but right now there is nothing going on that I am aware of.}

19 Feb 2017 20:38:37
Cheers Ed002, do Liverpool have any risk of losing key players this summer. Obviously qualifying for CL will be a big factor, but let's go with if we don't could some teams be flying above like vultures waiting to swoop in.

Agree2 2Disagree

{Ed002's Note - If players are to arrive then players need to leave Harry.}

19 Feb 2017 09:38:57
Hey ed002 are we returning to chillwell?

Believable0 3Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - The Leicester manager says that there has been no contact with the three Premier League sides (Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal) interested in Chilwell since the summer. He also explained that Chilwell is young and has a great future ahead of him and expects Leicester will have to deal with further approaches in the summer.}

19 Feb 2017 10:32:33
If they go down he could be an option I guess.

Agree6 3Disagree

19 Feb 2017 11:42:08
He hasn't impressed me at all this season I'm picturing him being skinned by mirallas earlier in the season and yesterday he couldn't stop the goal. He reminds me a lot of Moreno actually acceptable going forward suspect defensively but he's a couple of years younger and English. Personally at the moment I'm glad we missed that boat.

Agree10 11Disagree

19 Feb 2017 18:25:23
Now you see why Klopp prolly thought he wasn't worth the 10m LC was asking for.

Agree9 8Disagree

19 Feb 2017 22:21:46
like most modern full backs he has not got a clue about defending, they are nothing more than glorified attackers, the actual defending part, the part they should be good at they fail completely.

Agree6 5Disagree

20 Feb 2017 18:54:58
@Hamilton hm not sure Klopp decides pricing for players. That probably sits more with Ayre or Edwards.

Agree1 0Disagree

21 Feb 2017 13:57:00
maybe but i would have thought Klopp has a budget to work to and he will decide who he prefers to spend the budget on. if the askiing price of a player is 10m and he doesn't think its worth it he will likely look elsewhere.

Agree3 0Disagree

24 Feb 2017 18:34:23
My point exactly. Klopp thought mane was worth 36m so he went for him. he didn't think Chilwell was worth 10m, so he didn't. it has nothing to do with a budget BUT all to do with price and value. Chilwell offering adequate value for the quoted price hence, he wasn't signed. Economics 101, my friend.
