Rumour has it Chelsea has just bid for Lavia and its closer to what Southampton want. If they end up getting him and the window closes without us getting a DM or CB, I think even the most pro FSG supporter will be annoyed.

I wouldn't consider myself pro FSG but certainly a lot less anti FSG than others.

You are 100% right though I would be incredibly annoyed in the situation you have outlined but I still think there is 0 chance that happens. We would buy someone in just as a body if nothing else in panic towards end of window but that would basically be as annoying.

We will still get 2 more though maybe even a 3rd if things work out.

Our wage bill surely is way way down over the last 12 months I'd imagine as well.

What’s it got to do with FSG? Surely it would be the club itself (Klopp and co) that’s messed it up?

Yeah I’d be really disappointed with Jorg and klopp. Maybe more so klopp, but only based on ed2 sharing that klopps tapping up if players had led to missing out on targets and harming our relationships with other clubs.

Mikey raises a good point. The money situation is what it is. Sure, we'd probably all like it to be more and it is frustrating when we are here as a "big club" with recent Champions League and Premier League titles, good commercial revenues, etc and we see ourselves getting outspent by teams we consider to be mid-table and smaller clubs. But it's not like there is no money at all.

The biggest problem I see in this transfer window is that we spent almost 100m on two players who, whilst exciting and definitely enhancing the team, don't address the most obvious problems we had. Surely the defensive side of the team was the priority to get sorted first and then see what we had left to try to get an attacking midfielder as well (I would accept the point that if we'd not gone for Mac Allister and Szoboszlai early in the window they may have ended up elsewhere but again we've got to prioritise) .

And this isn't a new problem. Through the last three or four transfer windows we've signed only attacking players; Gakpo, Nunez, Diaz (total 150m ish? ) . A blind man could see that with Ox and Keita always looking likely to move on at the end of their contracts (and not offering a lot anyway), Milner's and (to a lesser extent) Henderson's age, Thiago's injury record, Fabinho struggling to halt his decline and Jones and Elliott not yet taking the chance to nail down a place in the first team, we were heading for a problem in midfield. Why not even a little bit of a refresh or a player signed for the future in midfield in one of the previous windows. Exciting players though Gakpo, Diaz and Nunez may be, we didn't need them all + Salah + Jota when we had obvious problems brewing in midfield and defence. Then look at Nat Phillips. Why is he still here? Klopp won't use him unless absolutely forced to but we're still paying him and next year (I think) he'll leave for nothing. Why not just accept a sensible fee?

So unless I completely misunderstand the roles and responsibilities within a football club, most of my questions/ concerns are about the way we've (mis) managed the squad and the balance between defence and attack over the last two or three years.

I'm very pro FSG and I will go flaming mad and start punching holes in the walls if a proper DM is not bought before the window closes. Why? Because it's not done. As simple as that. The hardest domestic league in the World, one of the most prestigious clubs in the World, and yet the brains running the show are unable to bring in a player to fill a position that caused us so much trouble last year, which led to dropping out of top 4 and the UCL, which in turn (because of the shortfall in expected revenue) is probably one of the reasons for the snail's pace in recruiting for the "grand rebuild" of this summer.

As always, I fear we won't do enough in the window now. Not only was the rebuild started too late, we also are taking too long to sign players.

The main question is, would LFC want a player who doesn't want them. If they don't retract their offer it probably means nobody really knows what's going on.
