Gravenberch is a squad filler. Thuram is significantly better. Might be double the money but too expensive apparently to the club . A player half the money won't make much difference to that squad. Don't rate Gravenberch atall and slow releaser of the ball so don't see how he's bettering our attacks either. Disappointing if we pursue him and i think he'll struggle in the PL.

{Ed001's Note - is Thuram really all that good? I really need to watch him again if so because I didn't see it. Yes he could ghost past players, but he spent most of the game in the wrong positions to effect it, either defensively or offensively. He seems a bit brainless and lazy.}

From what I have seen of Gravenberch, I don't see what he offers that Curtis Jones doesn't. He's a very similar type, but Jones is better. I think Thuram has more of the attributes required to be a top player, the issues with him are more tactical rather than a lack of talent. So if you're signing a project player I'd go Thuram.

Personally I'd rather have neither and just get Doucoure in, we know he can do the business.

Agree Thomas. Gravenberch is no different to Jones. We should simply not waste time and get Doucoure and a center back in. A top class DM alongside Szobo and Mc Allister is a very good midfield. Said this on the first day of window.

Ed001, I suppose a player like Thuram is always going to look good on them youtube highlight reels that are popular whenever we are linked with a player.
I’ve watched Thuram on one and he looked world class when he was doing all the ghosting past players and being awesome, but they don’t show when he’s out of position or being brainless like you say, you’d need to watch him for that.
I’ve definitely watched Thuram and Gravenberg play but can’t say I remember much from them to be honest, it’s one of them though, unless your actually watching them play (because it’s known we are linked with them) when watching their teams you don’t tend to remember much about them because your watching a team rather than an individual.

We have seven midfielders I'd all rather see start ahead of Gravenberch. It would be a detriment to our squad and the development of Elliott, Jones, and Bajcetic, who I have the utmost faith in. We have Thiago, Morton, and Trent to fill in the gaps when they appear. Signing Gravenberch would be a waste of money and a bad idea.

What I don't like at all about what I read is his supposed lack of a work rate (and first time I have ever read that too) . That will absolutely not work in a Klopp system, nor with Klopp himself. Our bread and butter in the midfield is pressing to get the ball back as quickly as possible or forcing mistakes. We can't have midfielders on "energy-saving mode".

Edd001. Gerrard wasn't Gerrard at 22. He was excellent but he reached higher levels years on. I'm not saying they're similar but thuram has it all to be sensational and a level above the rest especially for us. He's only 22. There's things that can be worked on but he's potentially, which is a key word a very special player. When midfielders reach that high ceiling level as you know its very hard to get them to come to us. Either pricing or cough Bellingham and Madrid. Klopps gotten a few players over th years that had the skillset to be great but weren't yet at that level. Salah, mane for example.
I truly believe under klopp and if we play more like the way we played when we went a man down he would flourish for us.
Game of opinions.

{Ed001's Note - please do not compare him to Gerrard, who was clearly head and shoulders above everyone else even at 22. Gerrard was standing out long before then as top class. Thuram is not even standing out in a very poor side. Sorry but I disagree with you completely. Thuram is hype and highlight reels rather than a 90 minute player. May as well sign Pogba.}

I'm assuming Schmadtke is well acquainted with Gravenberch and well aware of what Klopp is after. No?

Edd001 that's such a lazy reply given i stated they weren't similar and pointed out Gerrard wasn't worldclass at 22. I was as I'll have to repeat, saying that some players aren't their very best at 22. De Bruyne and virg weren't we we know they are now or what they were a few years ago. It's not as if we can all point out young world class midfielders at 21,22. The exception went to Madrid. So Liverpool try to attain players at a level below with thep potential to reach that level.
Ok if you say so. I disagree on your reply on thuram. It is what it is. Keep it classy and move on.

Never seen Thuram play and is prolly a good player but I saw Gerrard play at age 22 and not even Frank Lampard that the clout-chasing Chelsea fans like to compare with him, was anywhere near his level even at that age. Let's put all these comparisons esp the false ones like this, to the side.

Either way apparently, Thuram doesn't want to leave Nice and where he to leave, he wants PSG so not sure we should be pining for a player who clearly does not want to play for us. We would be in the best position to know what that is like.

Habibi, had we signed MacAllister and Szob on the first day of the window?

In fairness Gravenberch is also brainless and lazy. Add to that his whinging as he can’t get off the bench. Rather we signed Kone than either of them.

Lad nobody has any idea what you mean by world class’. I don’t know if you consider Bellingham ‘world class’ but he is a player of similar quality and stature to Gerrard at that age. Thuram is Thuram. As Ed said, he is more like Pogba, a player who was let go from his contract at United (twice) . Probably the only way I know how to explain it. Hope this helps.

yeah But Stevie at 22 you could see what he was going to become. Thuram isn't that.

Also I thought ed2 said Thuram is holding out for PSG. Why are we fawning over these players that are yearning for a move to other clubs? Sure we could turn his head with money, but is that what we want?
