Is Van Dijk out for Leicester?

{Ed025's Note - hes not well mate and very doubtful for the game..

1.) 29 Jan 2019 14:30:57
Hope we don’t risk him. Rather think we should be able to beat Leicester without having to rely on one or two players. If not playing VVD tomorrow means he’s able to continue fine over the next few weeks I’d take that.

2.) 29 Jan 2019 15:03:22
In the presser Klopp has said he is training and should be ok for Tomorrow. It’s horrid to think how reliant we are on him at times.

3.) 30 Jan 2019 05:59:14
I think i would be less worried if Gomez wasn’t injured.

4.) 30 Jan 2019 15:18:42
I want Burnley relegated for what they have done to Gomez! persons.

{Ed025's Note - i want newcastle to be relegated for what they done to city eka, they played with commitment and gusto so what have they been doing for the rest of the season?, the fat spanish waiter had them up for this one because it suited his liverpool past, they are kidding the balls off the geordie public..

5.) 30 Jan 2019 15:37:09
Sounding very bitter there Ed. I do agree that they are kidding the geordie mind.

{Ed025's Note - i dont consider myself bitter stevie, i was just putting the point across that its not always just about poor old liverpool mate..

6.) 30 Jan 2019 16:24:08
Only joking with you mate. Your input is very much appreciated by a lot of us on this site.

{Ed025's Note - cheers mate..

26 Feb 2018 09:13:21
Is there any interest in Lewis Cook or is it just a silly rumour?

1.) 26 Feb 2018 16:18:52
Seen the rumour could be a good addition has potential and is English don't see the harm for the 20 million rumoured.

26 Oct 2017 18:49:47
I really do hope these Casillas rumours are untrue. are looking at any goalkeepers?

1.) 26 Oct 2017 20:11:03
Got to give Ward a chance, nothing to lose now .

2.) 26 Oct 2017 20:45:45
If true it only proves Klopp has a blind spot when it comes to Goalkeepers. Porto are doing their best to get rid for good reason.

3.) 26 Oct 2017 21:47:53
What about if it’s not true KloppisaKloon?

4.) 26 Oct 2017 22:32:13
I hope its not. But at Dortmund he stuck with an average GK for years. Would you like Casillas?

5.) 26 Oct 2017 22:52:38
No but I would rather not condemn the manager for a decision that he hasn’t made yet and probably isn’t even going to make.

6.) 27 Oct 2017 00:01:57
Casillas is awful. I bloody hope we aren’t after him.

7.) 27 Oct 2017 05:53:58
I actually don't mind at all bringing in Casillas in January.

Look at Cech -- who is a similar age -- he's been very very good for Arsenal.

Casillas is not only world class, he's one of the best keepers to ever play the game. As a short to intermediate term solution to our woes at the back, I like this move. He could not only shore us up, but also provide some guidance to Ward/ Karius.

It would also allow us to send Mignolet packing, which is long overdue.

{Ed001's Note - for starters Cech has not been that good for Arsenal, he is clearly way below the level he was at and has not really made them any better than they were before he arrived. They would have been better spending the money elsewhere and sticking by Ospina.

Secondly Casillas has never been world class or even near to it. He has always been a very average keeper who had very little to do so he could get away with it. He has a terrible attitude, is a trouble maker and would be an awful signing, even for the bench.

As for getting rid of Mignolet there is nothing to stop that happening anyway.}

8.) 27 Oct 2017 06:32:25
If we're going down this ridiculous route I'd rather have Reina back! Ward needs to be given a chance first.

9.) 27 Oct 2017 06:56:31
Actually we have 3, Bogdan has been registered so he is in the squad as well.

10.) 27 Oct 2017 08:21:07
I am not a Casillas fan at all but the guy is surely worth something considering all his accolades at Real Madrid and Spain.

{Ed001's Note - was it down to him or the rest of the team? Only the one time he was called upon to show what he could do they won nothing because he let simple shots go straight past him.}

11.) 27 Oct 2017 08:44:23
I am not condemning Jurgen Klopp smeg head, at all. It's well known Klopp stuck with weidenfeller despite him being bang average and costing Dortmund simple goals all the time. And he has stuck with Mignolet for over 2 years now.

12.) 27 Oct 2017 14:29:24
Have to agree with ed1. Watching past el classicos recently and some of the goals Casillas concedes are woeful. He looked no better than migs, he Just had the ability to every now and then make a world class save which made him look far better than he was.

13.) 27 Oct 2017 17:10:43
Anyone who thinks Casillas is world class clearly doesn’t watch any football.

14.) 27 Oct 2017 22:22:23
Casillas WORLD CLASS? You are joking right? Bang average keeper and alway has been even in his prime at Madrid. Just WOW.

15.) 28 Oct 2017 22:32:11
A terrible buy. Yes.
Past his prime and poor for the last 6 years. Yes.
Troublemaker. Yes apparently.

But never anywhere near world class? ! that's not even harsh. Its ridiculous.

Won every single thing there was to win at club and national level. multiple times!

In uefa team of the season six years running.

In fifa team of the season five years running.

Voted worlds best goalkeeper five times.

Most clean sheets in champions league history.

Talented enough at only 16 years of age to play in the champions league for one of the biggest clubs in the world and won it outright at 18.
Can you imagine a 16 year old playing in goals for real madrid now? 16?

Made some of the greatest reflex seens at the highest level

Was outstanding, absolutely world class and one of the main reasons madrid won la liga the year under capello.

Never anywhere near world class?
Even a catalan native wouldn't agree with you.

16.) 30 Oct 2017 14:52:29
Won everything you can win with both club and country, he's been voted best GK in the world 3 (? ) times. I am not saying he is as good as Buffon, but bang average is streching it a bit imo.

{Ed001's Note - fair point, he has not been good enough to be called bang average for a long time. I don't care what he has been voted or what he has won. John O'Shea has a list of trophies as long as your arm but he is not good enough to be bang average. As for being voted best keeper, it just shows how much of a joke the award is.}

Does anyone know of another channel besides sky that is showing the match please?

1.) 03 Jan 2019 18:09:42
TSN 1 are showing it if you have access to that.

2.) 03 Jan 2019 19:01:28
Thanks pal.

12 Nov 2018 23:12:45
There's something that I've always wondered about. Do managers get drug tested?

{Ed002's Note - maybe they should do.}

23 Sep 2018 21:24:05
Watched highlights today of our 4-1 win against manutd in 2009, and then coincidentally have not long read that sir david moyes thinks that team is better than our current team now. Ed001 I highly respect your opinion on all things liverpool and was wondering if there was any chance you could compare, player by player the both teams please.

{Ed001's Note - I will do that tomorrow mate.}

1.) 23 Sep 2018 21:34:24
That’ll be really interesting Ed! Look forward to that!

{Ed001's Note - I am looking forward to doing it to be honest. Be interesting to see if there is anything in what Moyes said.}

2.) 23 Sep 2018 21:50:37
Yeah it will actually. Could be a case of more “star names” in the Benitez side (Alonso, Gerrard, Torres) but the current crop being more of a tight-knit team. Will be really interested in your views mate.

3.) 23 Sep 2018 21:54:45
Yeah I third that, will be very interesting indeed!

4.) 23 Sep 2018 22:28:49
Maybe Liverpool aren't playing at the level of 2009, maybe not even the level of last season but it is obvious to most that we are barely out of 2nd gear atm. There is much more to come from this squad and I think that's plain. The impressive thing is we are still winning. We have won every game and we didn't do that in 2009.its not as black and white as it seems.

5.) 23 Sep 2018 22:33:04
We drew too many 0-0s that year, because that is what we are like, until now!

Pointless really to compare then with now, completely different managers and styles. Don't forget that damn Macheda coming out of nowhere and winning 4 extra points to give Man U the title anyway.

We got 86 that year and 86 in 2014, which has been enough to win titles plenty of times, that's just how the cookie crumbles. Last year the champions got 100 and they still look like a team hungry for success.

If we can get 87, which I have no doubt we will, that would prove this is the best premership team we ever have.

Reina/ Alisson, Van Dijk/ Agger, Firmino/ Torres are the interesting debates.

6.) 23 Sep 2018 22:33:34
To be fair.

The only comparison needed is klopp vs rafa.

Could rafa be doing what klopp is doing now with our team and what could klopp of achieved with the disgustingly talented team rafa had.

Did rafa miss serve them or did they achieve everything they were capable of.

Or did both managers do their best but klopp has better owners and environment than rafa or does klopp just act better than rafa did.

That's where I think the comparison lies anyway.

Both are insanely talented.

Carra for Gomez, Alonso for wijnaldum, hendo for gerrard -although in a midfield two i think jordan would work better with xabi - then switch firmino to the ten with Fernando Torres up to.

Trent carra van dijk robbo
Gerrard Alonso
Salah firmino mane

Still mad to think a team of reina, carra, agger, Alonso, mash, Gerrard (pomp), Fernando. Didn't win the league.

7.) 23 Sep 2018 22:52:03
With a bench consisting of Cavalieri, Insua, Ngog, Arbeloa, El Zhar, Babel. I am surprised we weren't relegated. Not to mention Riera and Skrtel who started that day.

8.) 24 Sep 2018 00:09:19
I think it's a very tough one. In terms of back 5, it's definitely a draw in terms of quality except the 2008/ 09 version couldn't stay fit (Agger, Aurelio especially) . Midfield, 2008/ 09 is better, as much as I love Hendo and Milner, Gerrard and Alonso in their pomp would walk into our current midfield easily. Forwards, 2018/ 19 is way better, with the way we play, the way they interact, the pace, power and electric counterattacking. So first 11 would be quite equal imo, but over a season, I think current squad would triumph as we've just got a lot more squad depth now. Lovren, Sturridge, Shaqiri, Keita and Fabinho have yet to play any significant minutes and they're all very useful weapons that the likes of N'gog can't compete with.

9.) 23 Sep 2018 21:41:26
Brilliant stuff Ed, really looking forward to reading it. Thank you.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate.}

10.) 24 Sep 2018 04:57:51
We are just comparing the first 11. What everyone forgetting is the bench strength. I will go with this team. We have someone to come from bench to make a difference now but not during that season. But both first 11 are too good though.

11.) 24 Sep 2018 07:54:27
Team maybe better ( disagree) current squad is miles better. Then take into consideration about the other teams set up. Different pressures etc.

12.) 24 Sep 2018 09:16:09
I think our strike force today blows that one out the water. Peak Torres was equal to anyone but Kuyt, Babel, Benayoun etc are just not Mane and Salah level.

Our midfield then was the best in the world and this one doesn't compare. Not at all a slight on this current teams midfield, I'm not 100% convinced you could pick three players in the world to build a midfield as good as that one was right now.

The defense was about equal - Robertson and VVD with Carragher/ Agger and Arbeloa. Early indications are that the keepers are equal too but you might give it Reina on the basis of the years he had spent proving his ability compared to Alisson's season and a bit at the top.

Klopp vs Rafa - very different to each other but both excellent with what's happening on the field, excellent with the fans and flawed behind the scenes and cameras with Klopp giving players unrealistic expectations of playing time and progression and Rafa far too involved with management politics.

So maybe the 09 team is better than today's, maybe not. But it won't be by far either way.

13.) 24 Sep 2018 09:30:26
As good as our team was I think people forgot how absurdly good United’s team was. Ronaldo, tevez and Rooney upfront with Neville vidic Ferdinand Evra and van Dee sar at the back. Probably the best defence I’ve ever seen and a front three that were all capable of scoring a goal from nothing, midfield wasn’t bad as well!

14.) 24 Sep 2018 09:34:57
Agree with stg and Swish, winning the league is about your squad (obvious exception - Leicester)

15.) 24 Sep 2018 09:45:33
This article has to be a cracker I can't wait to read it ed 001 going to go and get my choccy biscuits ready
Thank you for taking your time to write all these things for us to read.

{Ed001's Note - no pressure then! I hope it lives up to your expectations.}

16.) 24 Sep 2018 10:25:58
They always do mate
sorry should of read will be.

{Ed001's Note - it's ok mate, I knew what you meant.}

17.) 24 Sep 2018 11:21:34
That’s going to be an interesting one, looking forward to the ed. Would be interested to get your opinion on the comparison of the team spirits and characters in the dressing room. Having such strong characters as Gerrard or Carragher can be both a blessing and a curse. I think in our team right now you can see the difference of not having them, both good and bad.
I personally thought Moyes was wrong but could see his point. Our team now has far more depth to it, our bench was dire back then and we have more quality all over the pitch I think. I would agree that there were better players in some positions though I mean who wouldn’t put Alonso straight into our team now?

18.) 24 Sep 2018 13:43:02
I think today's team would beat 09 team. It's about putting the ball in the back of the net and we are better at that now than we were then. Alonso was a classy midfielder but milner gets more assists. Torres oozed class but salah almost doubled nando's best lfc goal tally.

The team is better balanced I think.

19.) 24 Sep 2018 17:01:29
I read his comments and my first thought was his two assertions of the team not being as good as previous and winning the league are not necessarily correlated.

A team may not be as good a previous years but can still win the league, united being case in point for many years.

His only real argument for us not winning this year was he felt we were not ready. But who thought Leicester were?

Tbh i take all these comments with a pinch of salt, the proof in the pudding will be seen at the end of the season and i will be on the m62 to watch the trophy parade.

18 Jul 2018 13:59:44
Hi ed. Apologies if this has been asked already, but what are the plans for brewster? Will he go on loan or get a chance with the first team?

{Ed002's Note - Klopp has previously said he will be part of the first team set up but it is hard to see how he will get games with the first team.}

1.) 18 Jul 2018 14:18:03
He promised he had a chance of being the #1 this season 😉.

2.) 18 Jul 2018 14:36:34
haha, yeah Klopp gave him assurances that he'd get a fair chance to compete with Ward for first choice goalkeeper. Somebody saw a photo of Karius in the #1 jersey at Melwood, but it turned out to be Brewster.

(Seriously though, let the kid get fit first, then he should be given the same chances as Solanke or Origi or whoever hasn't left, and I'd bet on Brewster to score more goals than any of the other backup options. )

3.) 18 Jul 2018 14:41:41
I suppose it will somewhat depend on who leaves in terms of forwards. In terms of actual strikers we have; Firmino, Sturridge, Ings, Origi, Solanke and Brewster. I would like to see Brewster given opportunities but that'll mean other forwards would need to move on.

Two other things to note. Fekir is capable of playing a similar role to Firmino in our team so could rotate with Firmino if he were to arrive. Secondly, Brewster is out until around Christmas I believe? So will miss a large chunk of the season anyway and will miss any opportunities he could have had in the league cup.

Conclusion, I don't think we'll see much of Brewster this season due to fitness and personnel constraints (the latter could well change before the end of the window though) .

4.) 18 Jul 2018 15:03:49
Cheers ed.

5.) 18 Jul 2018 15:05:21
With the amount of forwards we have, I'm guessing unless a few move, brewster will be loaned out. Pity really I'd like to see more youngsters getting a chance, certainly didn't do taa any harm.

6.) 18 Jul 2018 15:45:58
Brewster is still recovering from a long term injury with him not expected to return until around Christmas.
I expect he will spend the rest of the season training with the first team, maybe a few cameos off the bench towards the end of the season before a decision is made next summer on whether he should go on loan or is ready for the first team.

7.) 18 Jul 2018 15:51:09
Thanks carra didn't know he was still injured.

26 May 2018 19:50:48
Ramos looks rattled 😄 4-1 to us.

1.) 26 May 2018 20:16:34
Ramos has done what Ramos does.

2.) 26 May 2018 20:20:28
Spoke to soon mate! Salah off! : (.

3.) 26 May 2018 20:30:15
Real win this and they should be utterly ashamed of what they did to Salah. Couldn’t cope with him so injure him to the point he can’t continue! Where’s the sportsmanship?! Utterly appalled at this.

4.) 26 May 2018 20:36:14
that was their strategy from the start. ramos is a goon.

5.) 26 May 2018 20:36:32
Surely you can't call that deliberately hurting him?
Its one of those unfortunate things that happen.

We'll keep going and win it for Salah.

6.) 26 May 2018 20:40:10
Deliberate by that piece of rubbish Ramos.

7.) 26 May 2018 20:46:16
Don't think it was deliberate. I mean I think it was a foul by Ramos but I don't think there was intent to do damage - think its one of those unfortunate things that, 9 times out of 10, both players get up with no problem, just misfortune. Players got to show some heart second half, they looked rattled was Salah went off. Still 0-0, must keep believing.

8.) 26 May 2018 20:47:47
It was not unfortunate he pulled him with him.

9.) 26 May 2018 20:50:47
Imagine one of our players did that to Ronaldo? He would need to the moon, accident or otherwise. For me it’s no accident, he pulled him with him. This is one of the dirtiest players in the game we are talking about.

I am praying we take it to them for Mo and we get that man a winners medal tonight, nobody deserves it more this season. Come on boys, YNWA.

10.) 26 May 2018 21:44:45
Not one but two major bollocks dropped by the keeper don't make excuses for the man he's on good money an a professional sportsman he's let. tje club down an should never Ever play foe us again.

11.) 26 May 2018 22:49:47
Famous did it on purpose, its clear. I hate him more than anyone else in the game. Everytime he gets tackled he jumps on the floor holding his face. It gets to the point of comedy, watch our goal, ramos jumps for the header, misses it so on the way down he puts his hands on his face and goes down. Absolute cheat. I bet we win something next year.

12.) 26 May 2018 23:55:12
Seano, what Ramos did is what NFL defenders deliberately do to running backs to hurt them or slow them down physically. The last time I checked, the CL final is not the Super Bowl. Ramos did it on purpose and gave us evidence: He winked at a team mate as Salah was coming off. Use you eyes, my friend and stop defending the disgraceful.
