Cannot believe the amount of reds on here baying for Slot's blood.

Folks so ready to chalk his success down to Klopp have short memories. He revolutionised our side last year - made us much harder to beat - spotted something in Gravenberch nobody else had. To name but a few great decisions. And we won the league at a canter.

I would maybe understand the noise if there was a new wave Jurgen Klopp available to take over. But Xabi Alonso? Careful what you wish for. Yes, Alonso ran away with a title early in his career at Leverkusen (remind you of anyone? ) But since then, he's struggled. If he wasn't an ex-Red there would be nowhere near this level of noise. And as for Fabregas or Gerrard. I think we'd be crazy.

3 points off fourth. Going to qualify in UCL. Not where we want to be, but some would do well to remember the chopping and changing of the pre Klopp era. We are at the end of a cycle. A new one is beginning. It is a bumpy ride, but could be so, so much worse.

I really hope Slot proves the doubters wrong and turns it around.

I kind of get where you’re coming from BootRoom and I thought the same until we conceded 10 goals in 3 games, 2 of which were teams we should beating comfortably.

That caused me to totally lose confidence in Slot. He might be slowly clawing that back. I’m glad he dropped Salah and faced the repercussions because that tells me he will make the tough decisions if necessary and I was starting to wonder.

As for Alonso he was brilliant all 3 seasons he was at Leverkusen. Punching well above his weight and taking over when they were languishing at the bottom of the table he finished 6th, 1st and 2nd. That’s quite an incredible record especially when you consider Bayern basically own that league.

He’s struggling at Madrid but I have no doubt that if they back him against the egos and give him time he will do something similar to what Enrique has done at PSG.

Right now I would take Alonso over Slot all day long but if Alonso isn’t available I’ll back Slot and hope he gets himself back to where he was last season because last season he was nothing short of sensational.

Fair play, Sean Dundee. Maybe I’m a bit harsh on Alonso there, I suppose I just don’t agree with those who seem to think it would be all plain sailing were he to come in. As it never is with any manager.

We’re all so quick to crisis or to thinking we’re on top of the world is more my point.

How many of those 10 goals are down to Slot’s tactics directly, would be my question? The buck stops with him, I get it, but what can be done when Konate is having a dip in form and your M Guehi solution was fumbled on a business level.

Many new players to bed in. Many of the old guard moved on or struggling with form.

I have a lot of time for Slot and always will. PL winner. He’s a cracking manager, and whatever happens I reckon he’ll go on to have an incredible career. I just hope the next chapter of that career continues at Anfield.

BootRoom, you also have to consider that he has led us into our worst run of form in over 70 years. There was a period where we lost nine out of 12 matches across all competitions, which is the most defeats we’ve had over any 12-game stretch since the early 1950s. We also lost three games in a row by a margin of three goals or more, something that hasn’t happened at the club since 1953.

These aren’t stats I made up to make Slot look bad, you can look them up and verify them yourself. All of this happened while he had the likes of Alisson, VVD, Szoboszlai, Salah, Isak, and Wirtz - to name just a few - in his squad. And this isn’t a case of a weakened or transitional squad. This is a team stacked with internationals, title-winners, and players at or near their prime. The expectations were naturally higher, and falling so dramatically below them can’t just be brushed aside as a “bumpy ride. ”

It’s especially telling considering we once had Roy Hodgson as our manager, and he had Paul Konchesky, Danny Wilson, Christian Poulsen, and Milan Jovanovic in his squad.

We can pin the 10 goals down to slot though, although not fully. No one can account for Konate's brainfart in giving away the pen against Leeds. But it was Slot's instructions to drop deep and defend the lead when we look much better attacking. It happened last season too but the only difference is that the chances that the opponents create this time lead to goals instead of just chances. It was also his choice to continue playing Konate despite having a fit Gomez on the bench. It was also Slot's choice to drop an in-form Ekitike for an unfit Isak. I could go on and on about his tactics and team selection but I think most of it has already been discussed here.

I would say though that I was impressed by Slot last year. He made micro changes throughout games to make sure that we're always ahead tactically and he improved on the fitness of the players by getting them to do yoga and mobility exercises. But this season is just the complete opposite. Players look undercooked and unfit, and he is persisting with the same tactics despite it not working. The one time he changed and it worked, he quickly reverted back to what didn't.

At the end of the day, we want Liverpool to do well, whether it is with Slot at the helm or not. If he can turn this around then I'll be happy and pleased too. But as it stands, with how things are going, it does look like he's holding us back and we need to drop him if we want to progress.

The form has been shocking, you’re right. But then again, he started the season with 5 wins on the bounce. Maybe if the bad results had been less concentrated he wouldn’t have been given such a hard time.

I suppose I am just surprised to see so many fans so hungry to bin him when I really don’t think any of the alternatives are sure things. Far from it. I see a lot of sideways steps or downgrades.

Big questions ahead for Slot and the players, but I’ll be hoping he can answer them and turn this around.

A lot of good points there bootroom and I would've agreed with a lot until the forest+ psv matches that's when I felt slot should go as I couldn't see him turning it around. i would love to be proven wrong on that and he does turn it around . as u say there doesn't seem to be that overly many options out there, I do like ireaola but again it's big gamble to see can he move to a club the size of lfc, alonso I'm not sure on 2 b honest. We played his teams twice in last 2 champion league campaigns and I thought they v poor.
Slot has money in bank from last season as I thought he outstanding but he's got something badly wrong this season, there's no way we should be as bad as we have been for quality of player we have.

our press is probably worst in the league, totally uncoordinated, we worst at set pieces both attacking + defending and we don't look fit compared to our opponents in prem league. Them is the responsibility of management to have basics right, they can't always legislate for big drop off in form of certain players and changing over from old guard to new isn't simple but they should have them basics right.

TBR, people are not happy with Slot for a number of reasons. Firstly, I do beleive he won the league based on a Klopp team, who were fit, well rounded and didn't need much input from Slot to know their game and tactics. All Slot had to do was steer a auto piloted ship with little input needed to maintain course, direction and trajectory.

That said, I do see what he did in terms of Grav and made him a wonderful player that wasnt previously spotted. But this for me is where it ends. On winning the league, Slot tried to implement his own stamp and tactics on the squad and its been down hill not just this season, but the end of last season. He doesn't seem know how to make changes when required and does a very like for like sub when we need to get a grip of a game. He has decided that the players don't need to be as fit as when Klopp was here and that shows us running out of puff and then cannot change the game and lose. Slot doesn't seem to have the knowledge or experience to revert back to what made us great, hard to play against and our game play is readable and boring. Slot has more excuses that a politician caught on cocaine in a whore house on public funds.

We started the season with 5 wins bootroom but they was all lucky or was more to the point that teams where at our fitness levels as the season had just started. Now then season has got into full throttle Slots training methods are showing our fitness levels are not up to it and if teams play at a high intensity we can’t compete. This is not a new issue this started in February when Klopps fitness standards were driven out of our players.

Also because of his methods he can only play the same players because the back ups are nowhere near fit enough to come in.
As for Alonso troubles at Madrid that is not an Alonso issue that’s there squad being full of players that feel they have the right to do what ever they want and the manager is there to facilitate that.

WDW we have absolutely no right to beat anyone as has been proven and I’m not so entitled to believe we do.

However you have to admit that losing 0-3 to Forest and 1-4 to PSV in consecutive matches at Anfield is cause for concern and brings the manager into question.

Anfield has always been our saviour, our 12th man so to lose 2 games so convincingly in quick succession points to something being seriously wrong.

What it this, @Bootroom? Pls, don't project that onto the whole part of the fan base who want Slot out. Many of us actually couldn't give a crap how he won the title or whose team it was. Slot won the title on HIS own merits and hats off to him, his staff and the players (RIP DJ20, btw) and for me, I will always be grateful for that.

Now, many of us want him out cos he has deliberately walked away from the system that made us great and replaced it with one that has led us to 10th in the league, one of the worst defences in the league, the most goals conceded from set-pieces, the most goals conceded from individual errors. Mate, you want more of this cos there's a lot more where all the above came from? As for the 5 wins, are you serious? Many of us sounded the alarm already that things weren't looking good so what are you on about?

I tried to support him, I really did. But after the Sun. game, I gave up cos he won't change. This is the hill (the system) he is going to perish on (football-wise) and from that moment, it shows that Slot don't give a crap about the club doing well provided he proves his point that this system will work. And from there, I was out hence, Slot out. He will go. Just a matter of time and I got patience for days, mate.

Lots of valid points above which undoubtably brings the manager, the transfer committee and a number of players ability into question. But they deserve a chance to turn it around and there have been signs they can turn it around, so it’s still too early to be sacking the manager.

If Slot learns from this and my impression is he will and turns it around then it will make him a better manager and the club will be in a very good position for years to come.

The 5 wins on the bounce, papered over a lot of cracks. I admit I was initially just sure it was teething problems and as the team gelled we'd start handing out some right hammering.

Just didn't happen we got slower and slower and worse and worse.

2 good performances playing with intensity, back to the dross. I fear the Milan game again papers over thing again. As the good and decent performances are far to far apart.

What we need to see is continuous improvement and consistency starting tomorrow.

I think too much harm has been done for Arne and his team to stay, the regression has been alarming. If he turns it around. well. good for him. I just don't see it being a big enough turn around.

Hughes, i am not sure of. he stepped up with the recruitment. But the continuous backing of the manager and the apparent behind the back negotiations to sell Mo don't sit right.

Karlos, I fully agree with you esp. with your first two paragraphs. Im not fooled. The Inter result ( very good result in isolation) does not prove a damn thing. The issues are still there except if people choose to ignore them and be "positive", which is fine.

Our CF's are way too isolated with NO service from the flanks, something you need to thrive in the PL. We play a diamond yet with NO width from the FB's? My eyes are still open and the Inter result (just like the WH result) will never pull the wool over my eyes.

Brighton is going to be a real problem cos they have the ability to exploit every single flaw we have in our system, which are not few.

WDW, I should have phrased it better. I should have said that Slot had a part to play with us conceding those 10 goals in 3 games. He set the team up to play and chose the players to carry out his system. True there were individual errors but we also need to question whether the system placed the players under unnecessary pressure that caused those errors.

The slow build up play, the emptying of midfield, and the bunkering down to protect a one goal lead with plenty of time still to play for all played a part in us conceding goals. So yes, Slot had a hand to play in us conceding 10 goals on 3 games.

Great question. Carragher, Trent and SG became the players they could be because we showed faith in them very early on.

Klopp showcased a lot of our youth team in cup a couple of years ago, and McC was the standout for me. He wasn’t just tidy, he was damn smart in his choices.

I wouldn't Gerrard would make a good assistant coach since he has never done it before. But I think he would make a great youth coach. He has the prestige that can inspire younger footballers and would definitely get their buy-in. He was a youth coach for us before he went to Rangers and I thought he did very well in that role.

Why does everyone hate Carragher?

The spitting incident was abhorrent but it was luckily after his playing career. He was a one club pro, gave it everything each week knowing that he wasn’t technically or physically gifted. I remember fans wearing T-shirts ‘dreaming of a team of carraghers’ and chanting his name week in week out. He also knew the right time to retire (this is very useful to the club so as not to cause trouble or waste wage money) . Personally feel the hate is unjustified despite not agreeing with his Salah rantings.

There is so much to deal with here. First off, Carragher was not a terrible player. He got the same offline stick that Slot now gets, but none from the in-stand supporters.
The guy gave every part of his being in every game. Even back then online fans wanted him replaced with a random 2nd division defender - bonkers idea: SG got our attack up and running vs AC, but all anyone talked about the next day was JC - and the mild hilarity that he had ripped 2 groins to keep us in the game (the commentator really said it) .

I am all for analysis of each coach and pundit, but struggle with the selective arm reaches of, dare I say it, a new generation of fans who can’t be bothered with the awful moments of defeat, and then don’t enjoy the more rare moments of success a club might have.

IMO, he was a great clubman and a decent player but with limitations. Again, imo he has nothing really insightful to say.

I think he’s spot on in most things he says. And as for his playing career, he should be celebrated more than most. To call him lucky because he wasn’t born with natural talent is bizarre. He worked his arse off to achieve what he did and got the maximum out of his limited ability.

Jeez, I wonder what hell Alan Hansen would attract on these pages. He was instrumental in our 80s success, but was brutal as a pundit when he retired.

Jamie Carragher might tell us things we don’t like to hear, but let’s not denigrate his service just because his views hurt our feelings (or make us feel so in this idiotic age) .

He was a titan when we were struggling; in my view as key to our success as SG in difficult years.

While you may not like his protective fury of LFC over Salah’s comments, it is worth remembering what he gave to this club. If his views have you reaching for the moral back-up of his spitting on a car (ugly, yes), just ask yourself this: have you ever done a single thing you might be ashamed of? Now put it on camera, share it, and then let’s begin.

Might be against the grain here but I like listening to carra as a pundit and I find him v interesting. Particularly on sky, the American show he does can get bit silly at times but I don't really watch it.
As regards what he said about mo, I agree with it, it's exactly what I would have said myself.


As a player he was also excellent for us,05-08 he was outstanding and there would've been no Istanbul without him. He also tried to play on with a broken leg for us, couldn't see many attempting that nowadays!
The spitting incident was awful, no excuse for that and I'm sure he will regret that forever.

Ed001, with regards to RyanG and our loss of form defensively, is a matter of him loosing form or his partner (MacA especially) loosing form or no support from the fullbacks? Salah can't be the only issue, he never really tracked back. Although he was scoring then.

I’ve thought all season the imbalance in midfield is more due to gravy playing less as a six. No coincidence it looked better against inter with him deeper. I also think it helps bring his best attributes when he starts from a deeper position. Him dropping in between the centre backs should also help our attacking fullbacks push up to provides width.

There were a few occasions when I noticed inter trying to overload their left side. This season when that happens Konate stays central and leaves the right back to deal with 2 or 3 men. It’s how Leeds got the penalty and their second goal.

Against Inter though, Konate shuffled over to help the right back and Grav dropped back into the CB position which is what should happen. If the back 4 gets stretched the 6 is there to fill the gaps. We just haven’t been doing that at all this season.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against him but since he became 'the main man' (especially since he won the cold War with Sadio), he has become complacent. Didn't appreciate the statement attributed to him of not needing to work for his slot (pun intended) .

Everyone should work for the team. Look at Szobo, he was obviously the odd one out with the new signing but he remained professional and worked his way back into the team. And he frankly was not a squard player.

It was Cold War not World War, Oli. But I agree. I don't think there was any kind of war that was won by Mo. Mane wanted to leave and he forced his way out of the club in a way as well, giving an interview before our CL final game against Real Madrid. Somehow, no one seemed to mention or remember that. Mane was also burnt out in the end and his legs have gone, with Klopp resorting to shifting him to the centre.

And again, Mo said he didn't have to fight for his position, not place in the team. I'm still not sure what he truly meant by that.

This is the part where as Ed01 said, you have to be careful when someone speaks English when English is not their first language. Things could get lost in the sauce.

For example in French, a player can say "I don't have to fight for my place". That means, "Fight for my place" in the starting 11 or in the squad. In English, that could mean, "Fight for my position".

Whereas in French, "position" (in this context) means the area of the pitch (RB, LB, CB, LW etc. ) a player occupies. That's all Im going to say.

I have been one of the biggest Slot out advocates since October. I find the way he ( in most games) sets the team up, the continuous use of ineffective tactics, until recently the continued use of the same under performing players, the obvious lack of creative ideas and apparent lack of intensity in training that is translated on to the pitch as irritating, baffling and not least inexcusable at this level. I've never hid that.

However I want to pick up on a point made by another poster ( I think warmachien) in a reply to Carra's latest post. Slot simply does not look like a man who has been told he will be replaced soon and his bosses are actively looking for his replacement. With the best level of professionalism in the world, there is no way he could carry on as he has been knowing that . It does not seem in any way that he thinks his job is in danger and his replacement is currently being scouted. He appears confident, assured and like a man who knows his job is safe. So as Warmachien pointed out, either he has no self respect and is willing to be treated like crap by his bosses ( which is what it is if this is the way its is playing out) whilst putting on an acting performance that is Oscar worthy, or its simply not true.

I have all the respect in the world for the Eds and the genuine ITK posters like Carra, but for me it just seems like nonsense that Slot is doing what he's doing without an ounce of resentment and obvious discourse Personally I think Slot will be with us till the summer no matter how bad results get, unfortunately.

Most people just wanted him to adapt, the formation/ tempo/ structure doesn’t suit the squad anymore

We’re too slow for 4-3-3. We’ve seen that formation at it’s absolute best under Jurgan and it had speed/ power everywhere

We’re not comfortable on the ball enough at the back, for this Slow possession football. Konate, Kerkez, Frimpong etc… their strengths are not passing it around the back for massive chunks of the game

Just adapt to this talented squad. And for god sake stop playing Szobo at flipping right back!

@Kim as Ed01 has said, Slot is Edwards and Hughes' guy. They will not just chuck him out the door just cos a bunch a section of the fan base whined about it. They don't do that.

They will give him enuff time to turn things around and we all need to understand that. Having said all that, they are also compliling a list of potential replacements whould that time come to let Slot go and that time will come, IMO.

So in the end, we all have to be patient. I know I am even tho, I gave up after the Sun. game and now, want him gone. I supported him and he let me down. It is what it is.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but do wonder if Alonso thinks he should’ve been our next coach after Klopp instead of that poisonous toxic club that is Real Madrid but now I get the feeling he may be damaged goods. JLC, I agree those prices are insane but, the location of the final explains it all really. MetLife Stadium is in an area where there will be easy access to persons of many nationalities and many of those people who can easily afford those prices. I’ve gone to a couple of matches and sat in the corporate boxes and can tell you they’re pretty plush.

I believe the capacity is 82k or there abouts. Those tickets will be resold at 7k-10k each depending on who’s in the final. On another note, if ROI can make it to the finals it’d be if they could have a rematch vs Italy in the new version of Giants Stadium.
