Ed02 Ivan Rakitic, i've watched him quite a lot this season and everytime I have I've been very impressed. Now I know you have said Athletico Madrid, Chelsea, United, Lazio and maybe Liverpool would be interested in him if available at the right price but how likely is he to move? Also is the rumoured interest from Real Madrid true and if so do you feel this could be his most likely destination? I would really like to see him at Liverpool next season a much better player than our rumoured target Dani Pajero in my opinion. Thanks Ed

{Ed002's Note - Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United, Lazio and Liverpool would be interested if Rakitic were available at a sensible price. Real Madrid are interested but have made no direct approach to Sevilla. Of more significance are discussions that have opened with his agent regarding a move to Juventus as a replacement for Paul Pogba and/or Arturo Vidal. These discussions resulted in the rescheduling of a planned contract extension meeting.}

1.) Who's interested in pogba? what a player he could be for us!

{Ed002's Note - There is a lot of interest in both Pogba and Vidal and Juventus are afraid of losing both this summer so are actively looking for a replacement - hence the interest in the likes of Rakitic. But Pogba is well beyond Liverpool's means at this time.}

2.) Thanks ed much appreciated!

Just on the goal keeper topic i also think we really need to go and get a new number 1 in the summer and ship out at least 2 of our current 4 but who is the keeper we need to go and buy that is going to provide what we need?

Alisson - I haven't seen much of him myself personally but i have heard and read very good things about him but there is much interest in him from elsewhere which may stop us from getting him.

Oblak - A real top notch keeper but i don't feel he is a realistic option for us and would have many other suitors.

Butland - I personally don't think he's the answer nor is he much an improvement on what we have already. I think he falls under the English hyped up player category.

They are 3 we have been linked with one way or another but thinking about it who else is out there that would be a viable option for us actually improve us and provide what we need i can't really think of that many?

{Ed002's Note - Alisson is looking very good but has attracted the attention of others - but a perhaps come maybe. Oblak is not likely to be a viable option. Butland might be an option for the summer. But there are plenty of other goalkeepers out there if Klopp decides a change is necessary.}

1.) 14 Jan 2018 21:32:18
Karius didn’t do much wrong.

2.) 14 Jan 2018 21:08:18
Thanks Ed002, just out of curiosity who would you suggest if Mr Klopp did decide on a change? Any other options that the 3 i have suggested?

{Ed002's Note - Bernt Leno is the up-and-coming German goalkeeper. Vlachodimos has a stupid enough haircut for Liverpool and is well liked as is Gudino. Mattia Perrin and Samir Handanovic are decent. Patrik Carlgren is tucked away and doing just fine. The pick for me and perhaps achievable for Liverpool would be Timo Horn.}

3.) 14 Jan 2018 21:42:40
Other than letting in a shot straight at him at his near post. I can only imagine how mignolet would be getting hammered now if it was him. Give him till the end of season n decide from there!

4.) 14 Jan 2018 21:46:28
No he didn't really but a keeper shouldn't be beaten at his front post like that.

I just think we need to have a top keeper if we are going to challenge for honours.

5.) 14 Jan 2018 21:47:48
I rate Butland and think he would be a big upgrade on what we have although his injury record worries me.

6.) 14 Jan 2018 21:49:12
John Achterberg- After retiring from playing/ coaching in 2009 with Tranmere Rovers, Achterberg joined Liverpool FC in June 2009 as a goalkeeping coach of the reserve and academy goalkeepers before being promoted to first-team goalkeeping coach in summer 2011.

Maybe replace him first?

7.) 14 Jan 2018 21:53:57
I call that a half mistake. He should do better, but if that was Salah we'd be saying it was great skill and the shot was too hot to handle.

The other two goals were a combination of Milner and Lovren making weak challenges and getting flustered by players running at them.

8.) 14 Jan 2018 22:06:38
Thanks for your input ED002 much appreciated as always!

I do also think replacing Achterberg would be a good option but he must be liked as he has been here a while now.

MK although i do sort of agree about Sane's shot its still poor goal keeping.

9.) 14 Jan 2018 22:09:41
Yes. Let's be fair, he needs a run of games before we fully judge him. This was not a good game for him. He made a fair few mistakes aside from that goal though. I remember a cross in the second half in from the right flank that he hesitated to come to. Had the city player on the far post been one step closer, it would have been a goal. He needs a continuous run, and should be given the chance without fear of being dropped - as Migs was - but he needs to step up soon.

10.) 14 Jan 2018 22:17:29
ML, stop making excuses for Karius. His goalkeeping technique is woeful and he will never make it here. Charles Itanje was a better keeper than him.

11.) 14 Jan 2018 22:27:31
Should read MK not ML.

12.) 14 Jan 2018 22:48:55
He has the same frailties as Migs. Easy to score against.

13.) 14 Jan 2018 22:49:59
I'm not defending him. I said he should do better. But so should Gomez. So should Matip. It wasn't a goal were the only culprit was the keeper.

Sane hit it with serious venom and when you catch it that sweetly in the box, it has to be a great save to stop it. Regardless of how close it is to the keeper.

We need a keeper who is capable of making those great saves. That doesn't make Karius a bad keeper. Aside from not pulling off a great save, i don't think he's done a lot wrong. He is decent and does a job. That doesn't mean he should not be upgraded on, just that he doesn't deserve to be hammered after we just crashed City's party.

14.) 14 Jan 2018 23:31:40
Karius didn’t do much wrong gomez I thinks a world beater but was taken out of the game by sanes first touch, Gomez is young and will learn, most keeper wouldn’t save that shot. It was a game of good goals. Karius is our best keeper and some fans are too idiotic to appreciate that. We won today yet so much negativity on here! Karius didn’t play bad st all today, wasn’t an amazing performance but nothing to blame him for.

15.) 14 Jan 2018 23:42:04
Just to continue living in the fantasy of today, and to cause some laughter (aimed at me probably) on here, i’m going to say the top top French internation player Macca referred to is . Lloris xD.

16.) 15 Jan 2018 00:30:08
I was watching Horn play earlier beforehand our game and he made a few good stops and was quick off his line. Seems like a decent player every time I've seen Cologne.

17.) 15 Jan 2018 03:11:38
Horn may be a really good option especially as koln are on the verge of relegation. A lot of fans may already be on his back though as they will have their sights already set on a championship winning manager. We need to start focusing on the positives and not shoot down our own players after 1 small mistake. 3 points is all I ask for and that is what we got today.

07 Jan 2018 21:27:58
Really hope we get Lemar to replace Pip. He's a very talented quick hardworking player with an absolute wand of a left foot, definitely a Jurgen Klopp kind of player who he will take to the next level. His passing shooting and abillity to carry the ball will definitely fit into our style of play.

If he doesn't come in Jan i hope we can get something agreed now for the summer before his price rises even more!

1.) 07 Jan 2018 21:41:30
That is the hope, GBB86.

06 Jan 2018 18:44:58
Good luck at Barcelona Pip! Been a fantastic player for Liverpool im sure going to miss the magic you have in those feet thanks for the memories! YNWA.

28 Aug 2017 12:07:59
So is it going to be Lemar, Keita and a CB then with Pip going to Barcelona and Sakho, Marko and a couple of others leaving also!?

In all honesty i would quite happy with that if it did come off we would have an excellent squad put together there. It would have been an excellent window.

Dont know anything like but i have a feeling that Naby won't join us until next season but we are sorting it out now!?

Havent really said anything about Pip since all this transfer business but i do think we should sell and grant him his wish to join Barca, he has been a fantastic player for us and has really grown into a world class player. Time for him to move on and take himself to that next level, if he continues with his development at Barcelona then he will become one of the elite! So good luck if you do leave Pip been a pleasure watching you!

1.) 28 Aug 2017 12:17:59
So 2 more midfielders which to be honest I don't get.

2.) 28 Aug 2017 12:18:32
That would be an excellent end to the transfer window. Only question mark is on who the CB is?

3.) 28 Aug 2017 12:50:33
At the end of the day we are going to have lots of games this season and the way we play football its the midfield where the game is won and we need them in my opinion. Hendo, Gini, Can, Lallana, Grujic and then possibly Keita and Lemar who would also able to play there gives us the strength in depth we need if we want to challenge for things. Plus Lallana and Lemar would be able to cover the wings. It would be Milners career which would be most at risk if this did happen but in my opinion he was another Joe Cole and shouldn't have been signed.

27 Aug 2017 18:00:45
I was only saying to somebody in work the other day that one of our main priorities should be getting Emre Can to sign a new contract and he said nah don't rate him an laughed at me.

I think he is going to have a massive season he has really matured and improved his game and been one of our best players since the back end of last season and has started this one even better.

He has all the tools to become top draw that lad we need to keep him here!

1.) 27 Aug 2017 18:03:04
damn right.

2.) 27 Aug 2017 18:06:07
Spot on mate he is still young an a beast today will only get better really bad if we lose him.

3.) 27 Aug 2017 18:12:28
More concerned about Can moving on than couts at the moment.

4.) 27 Aug 2017 18:16:01
He seems a lot more mobile, a lot more combative and perhaps most importantly, a lot more dangerous going forward.

I always thought his natural position was deeper because he wasn't so dangerous going forward, but he's adding goals to his repertoire, getting better at his close control in the tight spaces and arriving in the box at dangerous times.

Means he doesn't need to compete directly with Hendo for game time and after how he's started this season he deserves to be playing all the time.

5.) 27 Aug 2017 18:16:13
He's turning me into a believer.

6.) 27 Aug 2017 19:18:11
Can, Mane, Salah, Firmino, Henderson (as his fitness is returning), Couts (if he stays) . there appears to be a number of LFC players that look like they could about to have massive seasons.

Looking very positive right now. Get a quality CB and anything is possible.

Been reading this site for years and Macca has got a better percentage of things right than anybody else in the media let alone this site. He doesn't have to share what he does so turn it in! Most of us on here appreciate his input and posts like this will lose his information altogether. We're all disappointed but stuff happens its football we'll get over it!

Eds i would just like to echo the gratitude that has been given above. Genuinley appreciate all the knowledge and insight you all share on this site but Ed1 and Ed2 in particular without you 2 we would all be stuck reading the same old rubbish the internet has to offer! By far the best site on the tinterweb! I guess Ed25 isn't too bad either considering he's a bitter.

{Ed025's Note - moi..bitter? never GBB, my problem is that i tell the truth and the red tinted bespectacled brigade dont like to hear that mate, but im like a superhero fighting for truth, justice and the everton way.. :)

Yeah you can see they're confidence shot but it just feels like there's something else lingering in their minds to me they don't seem as spirited with each other as they were before. Oh well things can only get better thanks for the reply ed let's hope we pick up our form again and finish strongly and in the top 4, as they say Rome wasnt built in a day.

{Ed025's Note - only because there were no liverpool supporters on the job GB.. :)
