Morning Edds Reds. And Edd 25 ๐
What are the main differences in the New Rules next season and will it make much difference?
Will the Toffees close the gap on us Edd25?
{Ed025's Note - its possible but unlikely Chrisy..for both questions mate..
09 Apr 2026 12:04:33
What new rules are those Chrisy / Ed?
All managers to coach their teams to 65% of their fitness potential?
Players to play it about at the back countless times & go absolutely nowhere?
Players giving up after 20 minutes?
Teams to switch off after 80 minute whilst leading?
Just using a basic squad of 13/14 players every game?
I'd say they've all caught up
Agree5
{Ed025's Note - sounds like they doing all thats asked of them BR.. :)

At this moment it doesn't matter what formation Slot plays, the rot has well n truly set in. I wanted him gone in November, but the fanbase still believed in him, but now I think 90% don't. But I'm on the fence about him leaving now; who would we get n who would take it this season? Steven Gerrard is the obvious choice but would he take on the burden of tryin to sort this team out, with there being only 7 league games left when the players look shell shocked, unfit, no confidence.
Say if he does great n we then get say Alonso, don't think he'd be too happy would he.
09 Apr 2026 10:41:09
SG would join on the understanding of being interim. It seems very clear Alonso is the primary choice.
My opinion, but I also think SG likely knows this and would just be honoured to manage the team for a handful of games to say he's done it.
There'd be no pressure on SG, more just a hope that he could revitalise the squad and nab 5th spot.
Agree5
{Ed025's Note - there is no reason why he cant come in as interim Stuie with the promise of being an assistant to Alonso when he comes in mate..
09 Apr 2026 10:43:26
All an interim manager would be tasked to do is give the team a good kick up the @rse and get them playing for the shirt again. It's clear the players have given up on Slot and the performances show that.
New manager bounce for the remaining games is exactly what's needed. Then get a perm manager in the summer who's going to sort out the rubbish tactics and dreadful fitness levels.
Agree7
09 Apr 2026 10:45:17
We canโt do any worse than what weโve got now, Strom, if we get in an interim?
The damage being done to the team or squad atm is quite staggering, and being a top club means being totally ruthless.
If that means Gerrard to see if he can get us over the line this season, and the club are set on someone else as permanent next season, so be it.
Look what Roy's doing at Ashton Gate. ๐
Never too late mate!

Thing is Ed25 XA may not want Stevie breathing down his neck. Reminds me of Evens GH. Could be house built on sand.
I've read somewhere that Gerard will have big tax implications if he takes a job this season.
Could do it for Free? Not sure HMRC Will agree though. They do like to put their nose in.

{Ed025's Note - i was just speculating Chrisy mate..
09 Apr 2026 11:35:02
I did think that myself Ed but I believe Alonso has a team already? Personally, I think if SG came in, got 5th place secured then handed off to his old mate Xabi, that'd be a good thing for everyone
Agree2
{Ed025's Note - works for me Stuie, the main thing is that something should be done mate, it cant carry on as it is..
09 Apr 2026 13:26:19
Stuie_boy, your scenario would only make sense if SG is well and truly only interested in just coming in to steady the ship. Leave the job to Alonso or whoever and keep it moving.
The issue here is that large chunks of fans would be calling for his retention as many of them have dreamed of SG managing the club.
Should that happen, then what do you do, then? I don't want him anywhere near the job on a permanent basis, mind you.

Just a bit of fun as I looked at the number to see if there was a back-up for what we feel.
This new manager bounce thing, is it fact or feeling? Excluding caretakers, the new managers this season:
Nuno to Ange to Dyche
Potter to Nuno
Pereira to Rob Edwards
Maresca to Rosenior
Amorim to Carrick
Frank to Tudor
How long is the bounce? Is 5 games fair?
Their combined avg PPG is 1.
Take out Ange and Tudor, as their records were horrendous, and the PPG rises to 1.32.
Our current PPG is 1.59.
For those new managers, their combined avg PPG for their time in charge is 1.09.
Take out Ange and Tudor and that rises up to 1.21.
Ours is 1.58.
Is the new manager bounce a myth then? On average the PPG earned with a new manager isn't ground breaking. On the surface, anyways.
What about the difference in PPG between the new interim manager and the sacked manager.
Amorim 1.55 (20 games)
Carrick 1.89 (9)
+0.34
Enzo Maresca 1.58 (19)
Rosenior 1.40 (10)
-0.18
Vitor Pereira 0.20
Rob Edwards 0.88
+0.68
Frank 1.12
Tudor 0.20
-0.92
Potter 0.60
Nuno 1.17
+0.57
Nuno 1.33 (3)
Ange 0.20 (5)
-1.13
Ange 0.20
Dyche 1.12
+0.92
Average PPG diff = +0.04 PPG
The new manager bounce is marginal based on the numbers.
Carrick is the obvious standout, 1.89 PPG since taking over and 2 PPG in his first 5 games for a proper bounce. But the rest are just average and run contrary to the idea of a new manager bounce.
Is it worth the gamble? Well, I think that comes down to what you feel will bring more hope as opposed to what will actually increase the chances of getting the outcome we want.
So is it worth it? In the current climate around the fans, it probably is.

I'm not exaggerating, regarding yesterday, I cannot recall watching a match where I had so little expectation of us winning, or drawing, and that includes all managers since Shankly.
We have become an absolute kin s*** show. Bereft of fight and ideas. Absolutely kin clueless. What the F & H has happened to us? Can't wait for season to end and a fresh start next season, when we can only hope and pray we are in the CL.

To the poster asking about Hogan not pulling the trigger. If he seriously believes this is a "blip" as Edward and Hughes may have told him until now, he seriously needs to go too.
This is a full blown crisis.
The PSG game was about 20 games too far. Slot should have gone back in Oct / Nov.
This is no blip and anyone turning a blind eye to it being one should be sacked for gross misconduct.
The players are not fit and have given up. Van Djik said so in his last interview. I don't believe he meant gave up against City, I think gave up in general.
We have nothing to play for and Slot has made it that way.
The players are now focused on not getting injured before the World Cup and that's all their focus is on.
Slot will go and hopefully with Alonso coming in some damn discipline is reinstalled into this team.
We don't lack depth, nor did we change too much. Klopp with this team would at least challenge for the title and the CL. We are doing neither under Slot as he's useless.
09 Apr 2026 09:27:31
Forget club links, Jurgen didn't have any, who is the best coach in world football right now that is attainable?
We should move heaven and earth to get them. Given the investment on the pitch, and in the club facilities, it seems ridiculous to accept second best in the coaching.

I'm not convinced at all with Ekitike's mentality, and that's reflected partly in his lack of work rate. I think there's a promising player there, but I'd be hoping to see more from him next season. My worry is he'll regress, as Isak will hopefully get an injury free run and he'll be first choice.

Just on that note and one I agree with, ED01, let's take the if's, buts and maybe's out the equation.
I think Alonso will come in the summer, Slot will leave and I have no doubt this will happen.
Given the team we have minus Salah leaving, yes, transfers could very well change the dynamics!
What do you think Alonso will bring first and foremost that we have lacked this season based on your expertise? What will he do differently to our playing style and what areas on the pitch and within the squad do you feel he will target with the club for improvement prior to next season.
I have my own thoughts, but love the site, the insight and just wanted your opinion if possible.
Thanks in advance

{Ed001's Note - he makes the players fitter and they have to work hard for him, pressing high and working as a unit. That is the key difference.}
09 Apr 2026 10:34:20
Ekitike has been fine, he's not the player im worried about. However, when the captain acts like he is, for me, it's a worry.
Our players have zero fitness for being elite athletes, and with the manager excreting no discipline, then no one is really caring anymore. They know the season is over and they have zero chance of winning anything, so all eyes are now on the WC.
We need someone to get the players fit first and foremost and firing on all cylinders. Slot has no idea about how LFC works, he has no connection with the club and is literally treating it just as a job instead of getting invested.
The "oh we need Anfield" is said with no passion, it's like it's being used as a throw away remark to try and get some attention, but he says it so empty there is little point. The only thing Anfield will be is a sess pit if we go behind to PSG next week.
Slot should have been sacked long ago, along with Edwards, Hughes and Hogan to an extent.

Jojo, I thought it was a mental decision to trial a back 5 with wing backs on such a huge game. Having played RB and RWB in the past, I can tell you now there is a huge difference in the amount of space you have to cover, and how many high intensity runs you have to put in. You have to be so fit to do it, even at a pub league level, never mind up against Dembele and Hakimi!
An absolutely crazy decision to take players who aren't fit enough to play in a back 4 even, and then ask them to play in a back 5 where it is a completely different work load.
Even the CBs in that set up are required to run more as they have to step out into midfield and split wider, aside from the CB in the middle.
Mental decision from Slot. He bottled it, again, and just piled the defence up as high as he could. That wasn't a tactical plan, that was desperation.

Registered just to post the following.
Billy Hogan can't sack Edwards or Hughes. He is the CEO of LFC/FSG but on the commercial side of the business, while also sitting on the board of the LFC Foundation as a Vice Chairman.
Edwards is his equal from a football operations standpoint, as the CEO of Football for FSG.
I use the term equal, as FSG don't own any other clubs, so he only oversees LFC's football operations.
They work together where the two sides crossover, e.g. Budgets. Both report to Werner and Henry.
Though he could probably influence Werner and Henry into pulling the trigger on sacking Edwards
and Hughes, having worked for them for 20+ years.
On a side note, imo Hogan has done a great job since joining the club.

Neva
I rated Hogan, but if he is in belief Slot is still here due to this being a blip then that is not acceptable. Why are we beating around the bush and accepting abject management?
Rome - Yes sack the lot of them, if a high sitting manager / director is not performing do they get a bye? You get rid of the weak and keep the strong, not being a "football man" is no excuse for believing this is anything but a man in the wrong position that should of been sacked long ago (Slot).
Winning the league does not give him a pass (Slot) his attitude has been shocking, his arrogance and ego is in need of a good kicking into touch.

Kloppofthenortheast, I've just said, we are one of the best performing clubs, financially, in world football. Hogan is in charge of that aspect of the business. Why, therefore, would you want to get rid of him? Your opinion makes no sense at all to me.

Thanks.
I don't disagree that all three need to go (Edwards, Hughes & Slot).
Slot as soon as possible, with a caretaker coming until the end of the season. Stevie being the obvious choice - he has said himself that he would do anything that the club asks of him.
Edwards as FSG's quest to acquire additional football clubs has not gone as planned, so his role becomes redundant.
Hughes for the reasons that have been discussed at length on this site.
The question is how to structure the football ops side going forward.
The Director of Football and Head Coach doesn't seem to be working for LFC.
Like many posters on here, I believe that the club needs a manager (in the more traditional sense of the role). However, there should be a level of oversight, by someone with their boots on the ground in the city not across the Atlantic, that also takes on the administrative parts of the operation (negotiation of contract extension of players the manager wants to keep, sales of players that the manager identifies as surplus to requirements, etc).

Kloppofthenortheast, I haven't seen Hogan making any comments that Slot still has a job due to the current form being a blip, but may not have come across it.
Either way, I wouldn't expect him to come out and say "the man is a buffoon and needs to be relieved of his duties". When things aren't going well in any business, which is what modern football clubs are, there is typically a united front from executives and upper management that the issues are temporary and things will improve.
For all we know, Hogan could be one of the people on here posting "Enough is enough, Slot Out!"

Slot continues to amaze me, every week I say to myself that they can't play any worse only for the next match to prove me wrong.
PSG are a very good team, but Newcastle got a draw, Sporting beat them, even Spurs scored three against them. We didn't cause them any real problems. They looked so much better all over the pitch, and we were lucky to leave with only 2 goals against.
I'm not a sack the manager type of guy. I always hope that they will find a way to get the team back to winning ways, but I've lost all faith in Slot.
Most of the players are playing terrible. We can't press, we can't defend, we can't attack. The midfield is non existent, and when we have the ball there is no creativity.
At this point it's better to say thank you for last season and good luck with the future. With the way the team is playing I'm not sure if a new manager will get us the top 4 or 5, but I'm sure Slot will not.
09 Apr 2026 08:14:13
For those that say sacking slot is pointless now. Of course there is a point; we have to at least try. We are Liverpool and to roll over and submit is not in our DNA.
If you have a leaking tap at home, you don't wait in the hope it fixes itself; you fix it before it bursts completely. That's just normal behaviour, never mind management.
Give the job to Stevie; if he fails at least we tried and I would be happy that we gave it a shot.
I was so embarrassed about last night's performance. It is not the Liverpool way and it will not get any better the closer we are to the end of the season; he will be even more cautious in order to try and qualify for Europe and that spells disaster!
09 Apr 2026 09:23:27
@Igor, it's still pointless, imo. As for the leaking tap, your analogy would make sense if the tap just started leaking. We have been swimming under water all season as the tap has been leaking.
The time for trying is over, sadly.
That window to fix the plumbing for real is far gone. That horse is out the gate and out the county. I can keep going, lol. Slot's handlers will be solely to blame for the immense degradation of this situation. Just my opinion.

I disagree, Oli. We are currently in a Champions League place with our "Destiny" still in our own hands.
I agree that he should have gone months ago, but he still had time to turn it around according to management. However, that time is slipping away with every game now, so we need to act.
The football is poor, the tactics are shocking, and with no sign of changing, something needs to be done before it's too late to salvage something. If we don't do something we will go out with a whimper without doing anything about it or at least having a go.
It's dire times, mate.

"We are currently in a Champions League place with our "Destiny" still in our own hands."
Well, if you say so.
As for the second half of your response, you are saying the same thing I'm saying. You asking Slot to do what he has never done all season, which is to change. The football, the tactics etc. have been dire for months, and his handlers still told us to "Suck it up and deal with it" by not doing what we all complained should have been done.
So suddenly, City and PSG are suddenly the last straws that broke the camel's back? Really, it took this to happen for them to sack him? Nah, this ain't it.
We are in dire times indeed, my friend, and it will only get worse. I've been buckled up for the ordeal for months now. I propose we all do the same. No point howling about it cos those who could have done something months ago knowing allowed the rot to set in. Sad, I agree.
