Can Rangers Replace Morelos's Tactical Impact?

{Ed's Note - EHL2020 has posted a new article entitled, Can Rangers Replace Morelos's Tactical Impact?

04 Oct 2026 07:26:20
God, it's painful.
Thankfully, not too long left to go.
1 week until the reds are back!
And what a game, hopefully will be worth the tortures international break.

03 Oct 2026 17:36:01
I'd like Alex Scott. Young and homegrown. Plays the position simply and effectively. Knows Iraola's ideas. And has just 18 months in Jan or 12 months next summer left on his contract.

03 Oct 2026 18:24:44
Really like him played really well tonight in that double pivot roll with anderson.

03 Oct 2026 18:57:25
His price just doubled!

Been a fan of his for ages Florian.

Watched him a lot as a youngster and he's beefed up and doesn't seem to pick up those niggling injuries anymore.
Also seems pretty disciplined in his role,

There's a real funny thing that when you leave Liverpool in a strange way your career just ends up in the toilet. I look at Trent who thought only about the glitz and the glamour your second choice at Madrid at best you're only second choice tonight for England, we're a centre back.

You played with his first choice and you're only there because Livramento and James can't make it. The guy is literally embarrassing himself. What a fall from grace.

03 Oct 2026 17:56:33
Wouldn't have him back at LFC but embarassing himself is a bit of a stretch. Looks like he needs to lose a bit of timber. Certainly has a different frame to when he was knocking it outa the park for Jurgen. I'd like to see him get his head down for his own sake but alas it will never be back at the pool.

Funny florian u say that about trents size, since he has bulked up I don't think it's done his game any favours at all. V slow to turn and seems heavy-legged at times.
Think it was klopps last season where he seemed to come back for new season v noticeablely bigger and I don't think he's been the same player since.

@OP, Alonso, Suarez, Diaz, Quansah . if you are bored and just want to have a go at TAA, just say so.

In fairness to Bale he did go out to Real for a jolly. 173 goals and assists in 258 appearances and 5 CL winners medals, 3 la liga's, 4 world club cups, 3 super cups and 1 copa del rey. He's def in the conversation for worst buys.

I imagine Trent hopes he doesn't follow those footsteps.

Agree6

04 Oct 2026 18:25:42
Fully agree, @FullMetal. They say they are happy Trent's gone as we have better defenders at RB now.

Yet they can't seem to keep his name out their mouths, having pops at him any chance they get.

Really strange, indeed.

Agree1

04 Oct 2026 19:11:28
I'm still upset he chose to leave but have a very different reason for it; I'm upset because he was one of us, and we accepted him as the player he was and allowed him to do the things he excelled at while not blaming him (for the most part) for his weaknesses even though those weaknesses were defensive lapses as a RB (and he could be anonymous some games). It meant he had the perfect environment to thrive as the unique player he was: a visionary passer who couldn't quite cut it in the midfield (ironically, for the same reason Szobo doesn't excel there I think) and who wasn't the best defensively defender.

Obviously, he didn't appreciate the special environment he occupied with us, and so far, his career has suffered from not being accepted for the player he is. For me, it's tragic both for him and his career and for us who lost a homegrown talent who offered our team a lot. Especially because he could have been a future captain (not in hindsight for me given his deception and maybe others knew better, but I always thought he could be captain toward the end of his career as he matured). He's a flawed player, but he also provided so much to our team when we prioritized an aggressive attack over defense. Him and salah we a perfect match, and when I'm not being petty, a part of me would love to see him playing balls into space for Barcola to run on to, or even picking out Isak and forcing him into the game (who I still think is too immobile for our team, but a magic passed like TAA could play him into the game even when he isn't putting in the effort to make runs).

Because I perceive it as a betrayal/tragedy, my first response is often overly emotional (as it still is for a lot of people on here), but rationally, if he wanted to come back and apologized/learned from for his mistakes, I would probably have him.

Agree1

04 Oct 2026 21:11:08
If Trent came back, he would transform this Liverpool team. Isak, Barcola, and Wirtz would improve. The key to getting the best out of these players is getting the ball to them early. Salah suffered most from that last season. I think we tried about 7 players at right back last season, and none of them put in a decent cross all season.

But there will be the obvious backlash from the childish supporters amongst us who can't accept that any player would want to leave Liverpool and try something different.

Agree1

{Ed666's Note - I agree I really don’t understand why people bemoan our players wanting to play somewhere else? Why does Trent have to play for Liverpool all his career just because he was born in the city? Honestly It’s laughable..

03 Oct 2026 14:38:30
So Sham City continue to lie and finally get caught in a puddle of their own making.

If the reports are true and they now are trying to say the funding came from Abu Dhabi (ADUG), then they have a problem on 3 fronts

They have continually lied on their annual declaration of interests to the Premier League and associated parties

They have lied to the United States department of commerce
"The assertion that the Abu Dhabi government paid for Etihad's sponsorship of English Premier League football club Manchester City is equally false, "

They also lied to court of Arbitration for sports

James Horgan stated that sponsorship obligations to City had been paid "out of Etihad's own funds".

Let your enemies spin a web of lies and they'll eventually entangle themselves

I would suggest to then to take their medicine from the Premier League because the United States chamber of commerce will be far more stringent.

03 Oct 2026 18:57:21
As self burn goes it's pretty bad. They'd genuinely have been better advised to go the Chelsea route, admit everything and sack everyone involved.

Hi Eds

Random one for you: With Bezos and his pals investing circa $2 billion for circa 30% stake in us that values us at circa $6 billion - there or there abouts.

I'd suggest we are bigger than City but if we pretended all these charges weren't happening I'd have put City valuation close to that figure.

Obviously we are where we are and irrespective of what the final outcome will look like City will have a massive cloud over them now under these owners - which leads me on to my question, given everything that's happening and potential outcomes - do you see City essentially becoming a distressed asset and their value imploding? If I was a gazillionare I'd be offering them £1 to take it off their hands, nowhere near £5/6 Billion.

{Ed001's Note - unless the owners decide to sell, what does it matter?}

03 Oct 2026 11:56:32
Bezos involvement in Liverpool is largely non-existent. He was a headline grabbing name that the media ran with. He just happens to be one of many clients of one of the 3 investment firms that have chipped in. Ironically Abu Dhabi's investment into Red Bird was about as relevant as Bezos' into K5 Sports.

If they're proven to have broken any laws, then maybe the choice to sell is made for them - Pretty sure Roman had little appetite to be booted out of Chelsea but sometimes decisions aren't always yours to make?

Don't see a world where if this all plays out that they can justify sticking around Ed? - what's the play: ok so we bought the club, bent and broke every rule, delivered success beyond the fans wildest dreams, got caught, got punished, maintained throughout they're not guilty, asked the fans to believe every word of it - then all turns out to be a load of lies - what then? We're sorry for lying and cheating but we're sticking around to keep the dark cloud over the club for as long as we stick around? City fans will forgive them for sure but can't see opposition clubs being as forgiving? For years they've been lauded as some kind a messiah. Do you think they'll have the appetite to hang around and be abused everywhere they go?

Obviously the money is irrelevant to them, I'm more thinking reputational damage and appetite for the PR cluster f**k and continued dark cloud with them sticking around if finally charged and heavily punished?

Gotta be some wealthy opportunists circling and smelling blood in the water? Also outside of sponsoring themselves would outside sponsors fancy being associated with them - from memory we had a few challenges following Suarez issues in terms of sponsors not wanting to associated with certain types of behaviour that can reflect badly on their brand image?

Agree3

{Ed001's Note - could all have been said about Chelsea before they were bought for crazy money.}

03 Oct 2026 14:50:50
City's valuation would be nowhere near Liverpool's, 115 or not.

The new investors value the club at $6billion because of the brand value and its reach/engagement.

City's brand is as artificial as their income and social media following.

Their true brand status is probably no different to that of other midtable PL clubs, and that would only be because of some of the new international supporters they have attracted in the Pep years.

FPF - Forbes have them valued at circa $5.5 billion - 3rd in Uk behind us and United, 7th Globally.

So not as far off as you might think mate.

Their first team squad has got to be pushing £2 billion, then the stadium, training ground, academy, hotel, TV money etc - think what you want about the size of the club etc but a regular champs league club in the Prem is worth a lot of cash no matter how big we might think they are - my original question was based on how much has been wiped off that figure now the truth is finally coming out.

Crazy horse, I think valuations in football are pretty pointless. Players, clubs are worth whatever the seller will accept. If Man City owner doesn't want to sell unless he gets £7b, some rich consortium decide they are willing to pay it then that's what the buyer values it at.

04 Oct 2026 00:17:17
Perhaps Mansour could pretend to sell it to ADUG.

There is precedent - Chelsea keep selling bits of their portfolio to themselves. 🙂.

@Mancini are you saying that one of the 3 or 4 richest men in the world is a ho-hum insignificant event? I'd be willing to wager a small amount that not onl6 does he know what's going on, he'll also have a pretty good idea of club growth expectation over the next 5 or 10 years.

Morning eds and Reds,

A very hypothetical question here (possibly a 'too early to say' question).

It's been well documented about the investment from the middle east into the UK that is linked to the group in charge of man city and the economic risk that comes along with it if they withdraw. If City's owners are either forced or decide to sell, how do you think this would impact the rest of the Premier League clubs?

I'm assuming that most (if not every club) will have at least one sponsor, either directly or indirectly, that is connected to the middle east. Is there a risk this could have detrimental financial implications for all clubs in the league?

03 Oct 2026 08:37:56
I doubt it, the Premier League is huge globally, it can survive losing sponsors from the Middle East. It might have a small transient effect but nothing it can't ride out.

At the end of the day I hope there will be a time where Premier League finances take a huge hit because the money in the game is obscene. I don't want to see clubs go out of business, so perhaps a moderate impact which makes the Premier League draw its horns in.

Agree9

03 Oct 2026 09:08:20

Trigger warning, some slight exaggerations in the following rant:
The total value of the UK's economy absolutely dwarves the foreign investment from the Abu Dhabi do's; it would be a fraction of a percent. The doomsdayers who claim it will have a detrimental effect are either journo's selling a story, City fans trying to cope or the type of people who are genuinely concerned about the possibility of a zombie apocalypse. The likes of Burnham & co will certainly express their "concerns", but his only real concern is the backhanders he gets.

The league and the rest of the teams are their own entities, with their own fanbases and essentially 'their own economies'; they would remain very much unaffected if City disappeared tomorrow, sure there might be a slight dip in Sky Sports viewership from the 12 people who actually follow City but it would be a minor blip in the grand scheme of things.

I see some online acting as if the UAE backing out of the UK would serve as some sort of rug pull, as if their investment will be sucked directly from the circulation of cash overnight. They're invested, that word means something, they can't just ask for a refund, there's no 28-day return policy, if they did pull out, they'd likely sell up, and somebody would take their place. Sure, they can withdraw from future commitments, but that money hasn't entered the economy yet. There may be an overall loss of course, but it's nowhere near as significant as some are trying to make out. Short-term job loss for the working man is always my main concern when the super wealthy play silly games in my opinion.

Yes, City turn over a huge amount of cash, but that's City's revenue, not the league's, whether it's here today gone tomorrow doesn't affect our ticket sales, or anyone elses. Yes, less fans would tune in to watch City if they're not here, but the league sells broadcasting rights in multi-year deals, their revenue from these current deals would remain unaffected, and it's unlikely to seriously affect future deals either, if City disappears tomorrow, potential buyers would be unwise to try and use that as a bargaining chip to bring the price down, the rights are a package deal, they're buying into the value of the competition as a whole, and as many have stated before; no player is bigger than the club, and in turn, no team is bigger than the league.

City bring nothing to the table, they can't even fill their own stadium, and the UK was functioning just fine long before Sheik Shishkebob's little investment, which they probably always considered a bit of a smoke screen and security net for them were this day ever to come. Is it a coincidence that 90% of Abu Dhabi's investment in the UK came AFTER Rui Pinto handed over the hard drives?

Agree3

04 Oct 2026 00:21:27
OP, it's not too early to say Mansour and the gang should do the decent thing and leave. The PL would be much better for it.
