Ed01 pick your brains please do you trust the club and Klopp knows what they are doing here in terms of replacements if Fab Hendo and Thiago where to leave? It does seem a lot to go at once with others already gone. I would not be too confident starting a season minus these 3 without serious 2 replacements at least. Hendo would be leave a massive hole in the squad IMO.

Str8talker

{Ed001's Note - it is a bit sudden, but it needed doing. It should have been started last season. But yes I think this is a good thing, even if it might be a bit difficult at the start of the season.}

1.) 13 Jul 2023 19:58:37
We put ourselves in this position we should have always been investing and keeping it fresh!
But out with the old guard and in with the new now!
It’s exciting times we could have possibly going into the season over half a team ready to compete for 8/ 10 years.

2.) 13 Jul 2023 20:38:26
Agree it just shows the mistakes that Klopp and his team made deciding not to invest in previous years.

I am sure it isn't the simple case but it does feel like Jorg may of come in and been pretty honest with it all.

3.) 13 Jul 2023 20:38:37
Depends on who and how many are brought in. We needed midfielders before anyone was sold.
Bit concerned we are losing experience and leadership. Don't see many in the squad that have that. Never been impressed when Virgil has been captain.

Like I say all rests on who comes in. Lavia and another isn't enough.

4.) 13 Jul 2023 21:10:06
Klopp glasses there’s tons of leaders in the squad mate Alison-vvd Holland captain - Roberson Scotland captain - dom hungary captain- mac World Cup winner- gakpo was psv captain- Curtis did an amazing job at the euros - salah, Trent I can see becoming captain material, the future looks bright have no fear.

5.) 13 Jul 2023 21:24:03
Providing that nobody else leaves after Fabinho and Henderson, how would another two midfielders not be enough? We’d have 9 at that point.

I think it will be Tchouameni/ Caicedo, Lavia and Colwill, with maybe even another centre back depending on outgoings.

That seems unthinkable but if you’d told me months ago that we’d be letting 5 midfielders go at once, in addition to the signings we’ve already made, i’d never have believed you.

Ed001 is right though, a brutal cull is the only way to correct that which should have been a gradual process. It isn’t the ideal way to do it but it does suggest that Klopp has learned his lesson.

6.) 13 Jul 2023 21:26:54
I for one am excited for the new change and era. Should have been done ages ago but better late than never.

7.) 13 Jul 2023 20:53:26
Ed001 if we do sell all 3 I know one thing it’s better than losing all 3 for nothing like it looked like.
If we only sold 2 for me I would keep Thiago even if he was injured a lot last season I thought the games he played he was better than the other 2. The Napoli away game was the best sample think he m played about 30 minutes and made more tackles than the rest of the midfield and fullbacks put together.

8.) 13 Jul 2023 21:57:44
Agreed ed001 but with a full new midfield image the hunger and competition for a starting place it will/ should create.

9.) 13 Jul 2023 22:51:08
If we do get rid of the three we potentially have

DCM - Baj, Trent
LCM. - Macca, Curtiis
RCM - Dom, Harvey

We need a top notch DM, and also both a DCM and ACM with potential (perhaps Lavia and Thuram) .

We still also need a top quality LCB.

10.) 13 Jul 2023 23:37:05
Just my opinion but I really don't see us being interested in Lavia with the fee Southampton are looking for. He's had one season for a team that came bottom of the Premier League. We don't normally spend big amounts on players of that profile.

Will the Mbappe fee be paid up front or in instalments please Ed’s? Do you think the medical will take long? Be great to have him in the squad pre season.

1.) 08 Jul 2023 04:12:31
I doubt we have the funds after we buy Simao, David Villa and David Silva.

2.) 08 Jul 2023 07:26:11
Don’t forget Arda Turan sgynwa ?.

3.) 08 Jul 2023 08:44:06
Be lucky just to get Abap!

4.) 08 Jul 2023 08:45:38
We’ll probably give them a £300 million note and tell them to keep the change.

5.) 08 Jul 2023 09:01:55
It’s to be paid at £2 a week and be delivered by white arrow (if you know, you know )

6.) 08 Jul 2023 09:01:59
And honda.

7.) 08 Jul 2023 10:38:04
OP, the real qurstion you should ask is: Will we be selling one of the main stands at Anfield to fund this move?

8.) 08 Jul 2023 11:14:59
Why not let PSG buy us then we can make it a loan move for £1BN a year….

9.) 08 Jul 2023 11:56:14
Ed’s Will we still be getting Konoplyanka and Gaston Ramirez or are they dead in the water now Mbappe has been agreed?

10.) 08 Jul 2023 12:47:30
Will it be a problem with FFP when we sign Mbappe. Will we need to use Man Citeh financial team to sort out the details?

Will Dunkin’ Donuts sponsorship fund the wages?

11.) 08 Jul 2023 16:19:27
Didn't we sign Fekir a few years ago? We probably have to pay the money for that transfer soon.

24 Jun 2023 21:54:31
Bit left field here but do any Ed’s know if Trent ever has any aspirations to ever leave us or do you reckon he could be a one club man? I am pretty excited to see how well he can do next season and will support this lad to the hilt. Lucky to have him and looks like he is evolving into some player with so many strings to his bow. Another thing I was thinking is what his value would be in the market currently maybe £120 million?

Str8talker

{Ed001's Note - he has shown no signs of a desire to leave yet.}

1.) 24 Jun 2023 23:01:32
Ed1. Whilst we are on the subject on Trent. I was thinking earlier in the week where we should we place him in midfield if Klopp decides to go down that route. I know Klopp will most likely continue the hybrid role so probably won’t matter in the end. But this is a football forum designed to discuss football matters. Anyways, was think why don’t we play a 3-2-2-3 formation, which is an experiment in what I’m proposing but would fully relinquish Trent from defensive responsibilities and would allow him to play to his strengths which is attacking and creating chances for others. The formation would also see two players suited to playing at the base of midfield, offering much needed protection for our defenders so that the attackers can do just that, which is attack.

Players I feel we should bring in that would be suited to this formation are Micky and Schuurs. Both are young with potential but are super quick and physically strong which are good attributes to build on for a defender in the Premiership. Especially for a team that plays a high-line with a back 3. I know both are a gamble because they are untested in this league but both are attainable. More importantly both are available to play a lot of games per season which is a problem with a lot of our players, what with all the injuries. Plus both have been linked with us for a period of time. I know you like Gomez and we have discussed him in the past. However he is unfortunately injury prone and with Konate and Matip also injury prone, something has to give. Both lovely guys and great to have around the squad but I would sell both Matip and Gomez to raise funds. I would have said just go and get Gvardiol instead but he is expensive, we don’t have the funds and looks as though he is on the way to City.

For the two at the base of the midfield I would sign Thuram and Kone. We need a squad to compete and those two can rotate with Baj. I would also keep Hendo to take up the Milner role. Baj’s progression wouldn’t be stunted due to number of games we will play next season. Also Thuram and Kone will need time to settle and Baj could keep one of them on the bench. That would give us a competitive amount of cover for the two positions when you consider Tyler Morton is back from his loan spell. Now for two advanced midfield positions in the 3-2-2-3 formation. This is where I would play Mac Allister and Trent. Mac Allister in his familiar left sided role and Trent on the right side of the two. At first I was fixed on him playing Trent at the base of midfield but why not move him forward slightly? We have Curtis Jones and Elliott who can rotate with both Mac Allister and Trent so they would still get loads of game time. Plus Thuram is capable of playing in the advance role if needs be, same with Kone. Although I believe both are better suited to the base of midfield where they can break forward when required but can break up play in front of the back 3. In terms of outgoings I would ship out Fabino, Thiago, Nat Philipps, Kostas, Kelleher (funds required otherwise quality back up) Matip, Gomez and Sep De Berg. If a bid of £40 million plus comes in for Jota I would sell to raise funds and would bring in a versatile forward that is capable of playing across the front 3.

{Ed001's Note - so you want to ship out half our defenders and then play 3 at the back meaning we need more. Personally I don't like 3 at the back anyway.}

2.) 25 Jun 2023 05:02:40
I have to admit that your idea does sound appealing. I would prefer TAA to play slightly further back since it would be easier for him to pick out runner from that position. But having midfielders who can rotate around multiple positions sounds good on paper.

Like Ed, the issue is with our defence. With the players you're thinking of shipping out, we would only have four defenders to play those three positions, assuming both Schuurs and Micky come in. Unless you expect Robbo to play there as well. I would keep either Gomez or VDB as well.

Thinking about it again, it sounds like too many changes just to accommodate one player (I. e Trent) . Even though it's appealing, I think it would make more sense to either switch TAA to a midfielder in a 433 or stick to playing him as an inverted full-back, which I think Klopp is leaning more towards.

3.) 25 Jun 2023 08:43:08
Dracred, part of your last paragraph captures my whole opinion on this Trent inverted role. We seem to be over complicating things here just for Trent to play a new role that cos it’s appealing and flashy. Sorry, I fully disagree cos that is not what we did to be successful. In fact, we did the opposite and Klopp created a very unique style and a team of players to work together within it and they all flourished.

As you have said, we would be doing way too much in other areas which would definitely cos an imbalance in the team shape and structure to accommodate Trent. And I see nothing appealing in ripping the whole thing up and rebuilding it to fit one player, either.

The only part I disagree with is Trent playing the inverted role at all. Him playing there puts us at a disadvantage and leaves us too exposed with a defence that’s not the best right now. Also if Trent needs a rest, are we switching systems then cos he’s the only one who can play that role? So we would playing diff systems then. A disaster waiting to happen, imo.

For me, either Trent plays fulltime in midfield hence, he becomes a quality option there with legs around him. Or he plays RB and we reinforce the midfield that protects the defence a lot better and go from there.

4.) 25 Jun 2023 09:11:21
I have a sneaky feeling Trent will play where Klopp wants him to play this season.

I have zero evidence to back this theory up but I think it’s more likely that him playing where a poster wants him to play.

5.) 25 Jun 2023 09:35:49
I see no reason why we need to change from 433 and the style that won us everything that a club can win. We just need the players to fit into that system. Attack is fine, more legs in midfield is obvious a RB and VVD’s successor.
On Trent specifically he should play in midfield full stop. As Iv been saying for a while now he’s too creative to not be there and too much of a liability at the back to play in any defensive line, regardless of formation.

6.) 25 Jun 2023 09:42:15
Playing Devil's Advocate here, if Thiago is out (a not infrequent situation unfortunately) Trent can play his role very well in that inverted midfield / RB role.
Such is the benefit to the team, I believe it is worth the risk.
It is also one way of achieving this 5 / 5 defence and attack split.
Too many (good) teams are adopting that tactic, and for a reason - it's very effective!

7.) 25 Jun 2023 09:54:29
Westwood, i'm confused by your post mate. First you say we don't need to change the style we played to win everything, and then you said we should put Trent in midfield.

So do you want us to go back or not? Because if we are going back to the flying wing backs that stay out wide and whip in crosses all game there is literally no player on the planet who does that better than Trent. Surely the only way putting him in midfield makes sense is if we play Trent as a creative midfielder (which we never really used to play with consistently - Shaqiri/ Ox occasionally) and buy a more defensive right back (which we rarely ever played with unless Gomez was covering) . Hence my confusion. You basically said you want to change it more, but also go back to how it was before. The last time I saw anybody that indecisive was Andy on Little Britain. "I want that one. I don't like it. I want that one now"

The games constantly evolving. I think we have to let go of the past. Man United won their last league title playing 4-4-2 but i doubt you'll find any of their fans pining to play that system again.

8.) 25 Jun 2023 10:10:13
Ed1. Unless I’m missing something, Klopp has switched to a back 3? Have seen you state that you believe he will continue playing Trent in a hybrid role. Which means it’s a 4-3-3 on paper but when the game actually starts Robertson, VVD and Konate move into a back 3. Trent goes into one of the two base midfield roles with Fabinho on the other side. I would seriously not continue with that formation unless personnel changes. Fabinho offers zero protection to the back 3, is 5 seconds slow to react to anything going on and has the turning circle of the QE2 cruise ship these days. And I don’t subscribe to the notion it’s because he recently had a child. I could be wrong but I believe he is on the decline IMO. Which kind of leaves Trent the only person supposed to protect the back 3. Yes, we won games when we moved to this formation and it benefited Trent as he got to shine in a more advance role. But we were still terribly exposed at the back. If Klopp is thinking of persisting with the 4-3-3 on paper but it’s a 3–2-5 formation is going to require a lot of effort and changes to our playing staff. If major changes are not happening then I’m actually with you that I’m not a fan of the 3 at the back.

I brought up valid points when it comes to Matip and Gomez though. Both are unfortunately injury prone. We can’t just run away from that fact. Yes a lot of our players were injury prone last season so in isolation it would be unfair to single out those two. However, those two are injury prone in general not just last season. I want players who are available, especially as the season could be a long old slog, what with the Europa Cup competition. With those two defenders repeatedly injured you also have Konate who is no stranger to injuries himself. 3 defenders who are injury prone is a recipe for disaster and mismanagement if you ask me. What happens if all 3 are injured at the same time which is not outside the realms of reality? Gomez needs game time and to build his confidence and get back to a decent level. That’s if he can even rediscover close to how he was pre that knee injury several years back and the jury is still out on that. He should be moved on not only for our benefit but his. Again, I know you like him but that’s just my opinion. As for Matip I would just move him on simply because I don’t rate him highly. Especially if Klopp continues with this change in formation and high line, which Matip is not suited to it at all.

I also brought up valid points with Robertson. Again, in my opinion he is not suited to this 3 at the back formation Klopp played at the backend of last season. Can he adapt? Sure he can. But I’m only going on what we saw during that period and the fact is his game and strengths are getting up and down that flank and crossing the ball into the box. Therefore Micky who is not a random name but someone who has been linked to us makes sense for the LCB position. Another player that is not a random name that has been linked with us in the past is Schuurs. I think we were linked with him prior to him joining Torino. Like Micky he is big, fast and strong which are good attributes for this league if Klopp is thinking of persisting with 3 at the back and a high line. He would be a great addition for the RCB role alongside Konate or even the central defender spot that VVD occupies.

@Dracred - I’m with you that a 4-3-3 could be better for a number of reasons. I was just assuming Klopp has transitioned to a new formation and was trying to make the best of that situation. But 4-3-3 would mean we need less signings. We can then play Trent right side of the 3 midfielders and buy a right back with Connor Bradley providing competition for that spot. I would then ship out only Matip and bring in one defender in Micky who can play LCB but also left back. With Mac Allister already signed and taking up the left side of midfield position. And Trent taking up the right side of midfield position, that means we would only need to sign a holding midfielder not two midfielders. When you sit back and think about it the 4-3-3 formation requires less hassle, less players shipped out and less players brought in and worked for us in the past. As for the holding midfield position - I know he left a sour taste in peoples mouths during December. But if we only need to sign one more midfielder I personally would be going all out for Caicedo. He is a one man wrecking ball and will screen that back four like his life depends on it. Which is actually required when you think Mac Allister and Trent would be more free to do what they do best, which is to attack and create. But that’s me being unrealistic because of his price tag and the number of teams interested in him. Thuram could quite easily occupy that position and is a fantastic talent who I hope we sign. If that’s the case and we play are familiar 4-3-3 requiring just one defender in, shipping out just one in Matip and keeping Gomez because he is versatile. Then it makes absolutely no sense why we are not even attempting to sign Josko Gvardiol. Can play left back if needs be. Can play in his natural position of LCB allowing us to slowly phase out VVD. Heck, the kid was playing RCB for Croatian recently and doing it well so he is even capable of filling in there. He supports Liverpool and RB Leipzig are after Carvalho. But it’s not to be as he looks like he is going City. But you can’t sign them all I guess.

9.) 25 Jun 2023 11:37:27
What fans want and what Klopp does will probably be 2 different things.

10.) 25 Jun 2023 11:38:06
Swap around the defence, to accommodate the new role of Trent.
Then Swap around the position of Trent, to accommodate the lack of protection from the midfield?
Or just change all 3 midfielders who we’ve ran into the ground because we didn’t get them any help and let their legs go 3 years too early?
Personally I think Klopp will do the obvious and rectify his mistakes, then we will see the best of our top players again.

11.) 25 Jun 2023 14:09:52
LFC08 at the end if the day, your last paragraph is what we all want and hope to happen. We just disagree on how to get there which is a more than healthy debate to have.

12.) 25 Jun 2023 16:09:59
Bottom line is the calibre of coaches in the PL has gone up. If our entire system depends on Trent, then it'll get figured out, whether he's at right back, midfield or in attack.

We need to build patterns of play and create new relationships again and healthy dose of fitness, aggression and desire.

13.) 25 Jun 2023 17:52:57
MK - I am saying the system doesn’t need to change, only the players in it. Trent is not a good defender and never has been but there’s no reason he can’t excel in the midfield 3 of the 433 we have almost always used. Yes Trent is great at the attacking side as you say, but Robertson is almost as good getting forward (judging on assists) and far superior defensively. All I’m saying is that the minor loss of attacking quality by having someone like Robertson playing at RB would be worth the defensive shoring up that would come with that, whilst also injecting world class vision and passing ability into our midfield, something it has always missed. Plus of Trent takes Hendo’s position, there’s no reason he can’t occasionally get down the right hand side as Hendo does when playing that position so I don’t see that we lose all that much. All my opinion of course. Ultimately the main thing for me is Trent not playing in defence. I actually don’t think he’s that bad at holding up a man, standing up and making a tackle, but his positional awareness when defending the back post from the last man at crosses, corners, free kicks etc is just not enough for the top level and he’ll continue to be targeted because of it so long as he plays in defence. It’s exactly what I’d do.

14.) 26 Jun 2023 08:37:57
If you watch Trent in the hybrid role in our last 3 games, it surely doesn't fill you with confidence that he will be the difference between us being out of the Champions league again, or challenging City for the title.
Teams started to figure it out they only have to stay in shape and have someone parked outside on the left, so when we lose possession they carry the ball forward with midfield runners, switch it left to the guy who's stayed wide, he in turn has 3 options, takes it down the line and crosses, plays it back into the space where the runners are, or win a foul off Konate who has come across,
or Trent who will be tugging back him trying to keep up.
The hybrid role was away for us to beef up the midfield, but I would prefer to go back to the 4 3 3 with stronger quicker and fitter players in the middle of the park. Trent weaknesses have always been there, they just came to the fore because of the Midfield issue we had last season.

15.) 26 Jun 2023 16:48:40
our biggest move for me, in this Transfer window, is to move Trent into midfield permenantly,
while backed by Konate, Trent playing this Hybrid role, it went really well and Trent looked like a new player,
but, yes but once game Konate didn't play, and that fantastic cover was gone,
then we conceded Four goals, by a very average Southampton team, imagine Konate out injured, it will happen, and we play Man City,
or Arsenal,
it could be embarassing .
Yikes .

22 Jun 2023 18:22:39
Can I just say that all the talk of midfielders coming in for this price or that price I truly believe that if you can get a good holding midfielder in then having Trent Jones Henderson and Mac Alister as midfielders would work wonders. Curtis has shown glimpses of what he is capable of and being a scouser in there with Trent they know how to play the game of football and could go on to be a real force. I am hoping for Jones’s sake he can avoid injury as he is fully capable of holding a place in a Liverpool team. I think Veiga may become another Carvalho situation where he is more of a luxury than a necessity. Next season is Curtis Jones’s and Liverpool’s for the taking. Also really made up for Trent that he is finally being appreciated in the England set up it warms my heart.

1.) 22 Jun 2023 19:37:44
I agree with a lot of the sentiment here.
I’ve heard that we need to replace Naby? Replace what? He didn’t contribute much at all.

MacA, Trent, holding MF as starters
Backup - Curtis, Elliott, Bajetic

You still have Thiago and Fabinho for depth, they would need replacing IMO.

I think Elliott is more of a box to box midfielder. He has the energy, quality, technique and tenacity to do it. He doesn’t have the raw pace needed to replace/ backup Salah. Playing him on the left wing is a mistake for me.

2.) 22 Jun 2023 20:47:37
It’s amazing what a few weeks off from watching an average midfield get run through, bullied and outworked every week can do.

3.) 22 Jun 2023 20:52:17
I think replacing Naby etc is just a way of phrasing it, if he was still at the club we would still midfielders because he was rubbish. We don’t need to replace any of the midfielders we have lost if we’re being completely honest. None of them offered anything, Milner included (on the pitch at least)

However we were 2 top class midfielders short last season and we’re still 2 top class midfielders short now. Nothing has really changed in that sense. We need 2 to go straight in the starting lineup, a 3rd would be nice but it’s not urgent.

4.) 22 Jun 2023 21:55:50
@FPF - not to worry, I think Chelsea have organised their first preseason friendly.

5.) 22 Jun 2023 22:23:41
Elliot as a box to box midfielder?
That's a new one on me.
Jones needs to stay fit and let's hope that the operation that Thiago has had will prove successful.
If it hasn't, I think 3 midfield signings will be required.
I must admit that I don't like the idea of gambling on his long term fitness but financial constraints may make it necessary.

6.) 22 Jun 2023 22:32:44
People thinking we don't need replacements for a midfield that was (lets face it) awful for large chunks of the season is mad. 1 player is not enough to fix the gaps. And acting like Henderson could/ should play every game is mad, he's only getting older.

7.) 22 Jun 2023 22:50:10
He did it successfully in the championship Juicer.

8.) 22 Jun 2023 22:56:45
It needs a complete overhaul lads. Hendo was awful last season and Jones had about 4 good games so I'm not getting Carried away. Ed1 said the players were not fit so ill give hendo a pass but he's 33 now. We need another 2 midfielders imo. We also need a cb to come in. Id personally go for Barella and and KT.

9.) 23 Jun 2023 02:22:53
Bar Allison, all our players were awful last season but there were encouraging signs at the end of the season where we went on that unbeaten run. Personally, I think it was our lack of preparation during the previous pre-season that did us in and I hope that Klopp and his team have learnt from that.

That being said, we do need fresh personnel in, especially in the middle. I don't think we need a complete overhaul per se, just a refresh would do. One more midfielder is the minimum that we need to get and any more would depend on outgoings for me (i. e. if Thiago or Fabinho goes) . Jones has shown enough to warrant another chance and I would rather give Keita and Ox's minutes to Morton. Hendo can take over the role that Milner was playing.

This would mean that we would have a starting midfield of Mac, Fab (or his replacement), and a new MF (hoping for Thuram since he fits the bill quite well) . And a back-up of Jones, Baj, Hendo, Morton, Elliot, and Thiago. TAA, I think would still play the inverted RB role.

10.) 23 Jun 2023 03:17:53
I'm picking we see a resurgence in Henderson and Fabinho that will be directly linked to another pre-season for the forward line together.

11.) 23 Jun 2023 08:03:50
What did we actually do wrong or not do right in last summers pre season and even the pre season we had after the World Cup.

12.) 23 Jun 2023 09:04:51
Cannot be playing Henderson. He’s fallen off a cliff. Had we signed him 12 months ago and he had the season he had he’d be talked about in the same bracket as the worst signings we’ve made. From 2018-2021 he was brilliant but he’s long past that level now.

13.) 23 Jun 2023 09:29:13
I think it’s unfair just to pinpoint Hendo mind.

Although I do agree that he didn’t have a good season last year and at 33 he’s realistically on the downward curve (in premier league footballer terms) I think the rest of the midfield (not just midfield mind) were just as poor or worse.

I’m big fans of Fab and Thiago but I think Thiago had his worst season for us performance wise on the pitch and Fab seemed like he was second or late to the majority of balls and challenges this season.

Naby’s season deserves no words

Millie has gone

Elliot played a lot of minutes last season and the fact there’s still a massive divide in the fan base on what his actual position is probably tells the story.

Jones finished the season well and Baj also looked promising but for both that was in around 8 games of a 50 game season so whilst it’s a plus there’s still a long way to go for both.

I’d like nothing more than Fab, Thiago and Hendo to have great seasons next year but at their ages and with how their body’s looked compared to younger more mobile midfields it’s more hope than it is a certainty.

14.) 23 Jun 2023 10:45:06
OP, I agree with some of what you say BUT come on, we need an overhaul in that midfield, Im sorry. We cannot be having Hendo and Fab start as many games as they have been strating and playing the full 90 in for the past 3 years, easily. We simply cannot let that happen this coming season as much as I actually adore both players.

Now I can suggest to you that a big reason why they have had to play so much is cos the likes of a certain grade A flop in Naby Keita who could not be arsed to stay fit or an Ox whose knee injury would later blight the rest of his LFC career but it is what it is.

for me, We need bodies in that midfield and Alex Mac is a good start. We need at most 2 more in that position with the likes of Hendo, Thiago, and Fab as rotationary options alongside Baj, Jones Elliott for depth and of course Trent as a probable starter in there. I think we would be more than solid there, IMO.

Fallen off a cliff but England's best presser of a ball.

With Liverpool being still the most successful club in England do you think we will ever be able to attract big name players or is that a dream I had that will never happen?

Str8talker

{Ed025's Note - you cant go back to ancient history mate, 6 good years in the last 34 tells its own story..

1.) 15 Jun 2023 20:33:49
It's only a dream for the supporters that crave star names over a good team. You can shove your Mbappe's up your ar$e.

2.) 15 Jun 2023 20:40:17
We can attract them no problem, paying for them is another matter entirely.

3.) 15 Jun 2023 20:51:15
Paying what other clubs are paying is a huge part of attracting players.

4.) 15 Jun 2023 20:43:53
I don’t think it happens but it really needs to start happening. The harsh reality is we’ve won 1 league title in 33 years, 1 FA Cup in 17 years and 1 CL in 18. City have won that in the last month. I’m all for bringing in a Thuram or a van de Ven but it would be nice if we could really show serious ambition and try get say Valverde and Gvardiol instead. It feels like if these players become available it’s always other clubs that are more likely destinations.

5.) 15 Jun 2023 21:38:28
I'm happy with the Neal Maupays of this world.

6.) 16 Jun 2023 01:31:45
The question is going to be - who in RMs midfield is picking splinters out of their ar5e the most. Bellingham, Tchouameni, Camavinga, Valverde, Ceballos, Modric, Kronos. One/ two of those first five must be thinking of moving on.

7.) 16 Jun 2023 08:13:11
Modric refused to comment on his futures before the Holland game and apparently has an offer from Saudi.

8.) 16 Jun 2023 10:54:23
yeah I wish we could go back to the old days when we used to sign the world's best players.
I have early onset dementia tho, but I feel like that memory is the happy section of my brain somewhere.

Hopefully he would prefer moving to us than Newcastle then. A club bidding more means very little if the player doesn’t wish to negotiate with said club.

Str8talker

{Ed002's Note - They have been talking since long before Liverpool enquired and the issue is the desire of KT to move to PSG.}

I am quite sure it was only injury that ruined Aquilani his ankle problems where worse than the club thought upon signing. Unless Gerrard stood on his ankle in training I can see no other reason for his torrid time with Liverpool.

Str8talker

{Ed001's Note - he was fit for months and Rafa didn't put him in the team because he realised he had been sold a pup. He was just not very good in reality and Rafa had not checked on him properly, instead trusting his scouts. The scouts got it wrong, he just wasn't a good player.}

Utterly ridiculous that we are not looking to replace Van Dijk with him. I just hope there are other defenders out there who might be able to match what Virg has done for us.

He was right midfield and damn good and he is definitely no defensive midfielder. His attributes are going forward and he should also now become a midfielder for sure others can do a job at full back. He is a player that see’s pictures on the pitch and is a step ahead when timing passes and moving into space. And if I’m not wrong if Hendo leaves I would class Trent as our best midfielder no?

Now this would make sense if a replacement can be found. Would leave Allison as the only Brazilian though plenty of South Americans I suppose.

An absolute bargain for them a complete warrior of a defender. Thanks for filling in so brilliantly when called upon, I hope he smashes it at Leeds!
