Good Morning/ Afternoon,

Question for those older than me.

I was too young to remember McManaman. I wanted to know about his time at Madrid. Is he remembered fondly by them and did he do well?

Hope your all not ripping your hair out waiting for the game like me

Cheers.

i doubt they remember him at all. hardly played from memory.

2.) 24 May 2018 10:44:29
Well I AM going to get my hair cut😅😅😅.

3.) 24 May 2018 11:06:31
He played 158 times RedSwampy and won a lot with them. If I was a Madrid fan, he'd be remembered to me.

4.) 24 May 2018 11:16:18
He scored a peach of a goal in the 1999 champions league final Madrid v Valencia. I'm sure he's remembered fondly.

5.) 24 May 2018 11:29:09
He was never a first 11 player but he made 103 starts over 4 seasons and scored some big goals including in the 2000 CL final.

As I recall he was very popular in Madrid as a cult hero (think Luis Garcia at Liverpool) . I wouldn't recommend many football books but El Macca, specifically about the time he spent in Madrid, is great.

6.) 24 May 2018 11:39:27
What a goal that was gordy. Classic mcmanaman. He beat about 4 players over 50 yards and slotted it home. Oh and it was the winner. Of course they think of him fondly. Like saying we don't think fondly of Kennedy.

7.) 24 May 2018 12:37:00
If I remember rightly he captained them a few times too. I may be wrong though.

8.) 24 May 2018 15:07:37
LOL my memory is more shot than i thought.

9.) 24 May 2018 16:02:43
Gordy didn't the Mancs winnit in 1999 vs Munich I think your on about the year after when macca scored that goal mate.

10.) 24 May 2018 16:20:47
He is very well liked by the vast majority of Madrid fans. He never complained when he didn't play and he always grafted when he did - from the interviews I have seen with team mates + others associated with Madrid and from what I've heard the only Real fan I know say he is affectionately remembered. El Macca was his nickname I believe.

I have begun to reflect on this football year (although it is not over) . I will happily admit I was not that optimistic about where the club would be at this point. I recall anger at the fact we hadn't signed a cb (Virgil), we didn't landed a cm (Keita) . Instead we were left with a Chelsea reject and and an Arsenal flop, as well as a lb from Hull.

Now of course the moral I have taken from this wonderful year is not to make immediate judgements, especially in football. We are way too fickle at times. We assess a player before we have ever seen them. I for one am guilty of this. For example, all of us Football Manager fans who speculate whether they are good from the progression they make on this game should possibly reconsider. Or those of us who judge them by the reputation we believe they hold because Dave told us down the pub that they are cr*p. I understand the euphoria of signing a continental player but let's learn to judge them on their time at Liverpool and not what has occurred before. I understand that signings sometimes fail but those who make those decisions know better (unless they are pardew, alladyce, pulis and all of the washed up premier league managers) .

So I ask this summer to remain positive whatever happens. We proved that we could contend with a player from Hull, a reject from Chelsea and an Arsenal flop.

Well said, mate. Just out of interest, how good is Salah on this season's game? Did they predict he would be this good and does he turn into a world beater on it?

2.) 11 May 2018 20:57:30
In the winter update Salah get a boost in speed related stats better finishing and an upgrade in potencial ability.
In my save Salah won balon de oro.

3.) 11 May 2018 21:17:25
Lots of respect Muzz, I remember an unbelievable amount of people being negative and short sighted last season about the Ox, Robbo and to a point Salah and it became a little tiring trying to defend them and people being unable to even take the point of view seriously. But it takes a real man to admit his mistakes and learn from them, so kudos to you. Let’s hope for a more optimistic and trusting fan base on here this summer. All the best.

4.) 11 May 2018 22:14:23
I go back to Klopp saying that having Milner in midfield is like a new signing and me thinking:" dude, seriously?! "

Lesbian well and firmly learnt.

5.) 11 May 2018 22:58:03
Jurgenator mate, I wouldn’t even want to guess whether that was an autocorrect error or not 😂.

6.) 12 May 2018 00:16:12
awesome spell check, commonly used word on Google perhaps?

7.) 12 May 2018 00:37:29
well, we might even sign a player from Watford.

8.) 12 May 2018 03:06:48
I dunno what the sexymoms. com your on about Jurgenator

I understand everyones trepidation towards the sudden departure of Buvac. However, it is not constructive for everyone to debate why he has left the club and what will happen.

The club stated it is because of personal reasons. All we can do is wish him the best and move on. I appreciate that it is not ideal but we have a CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEMI FINAL to look forward to. Be excited for this. let's all get behind the club now more than ever.

Well said Muzz96

Let’s just concentrate on Wednesday and get behind our brilliant Manager and fantastic players.
Too much talk about ex players and Buvac etc.
We don’t need or want those distractions!

Come on lads, do us proud on Wednesday

I am supposed to be writing my masters dissertation in the library but I cannot concentrate on anything right now!

Bring on 8:45 (I live in Amsterdam)

Hoping for just as much action as the Man City games.

If it is without action, I’m sure Amsterdam can help you out!

Surprised this hasn’t been mentioned but is anyone concerned with what Firmino said? Holgate’s reaction suggests something was said.

1.) 05 Jan 2018 23:12:37
It looked like from lip reading he said Puta, which other people on twitter have also picked up on. Puta means whore in Portuguese i. e a prostitute. I know I shouldn't laugh at all but that's kind of funny to me, I don't think he can get in trouble for that as players swear on the pitch all the time.

2.) 05 Jan 2018 23:13:17
I am. The vibes aren't good. Saying that one BBC commentator said there was a spit. I hope not.

3.) 05 Jan 2018 23:13:44
Colgate was the guilty party, how he stayed on the pitch after that fiasco is beyond me . not sure on the ref tonight .

{Ed0333's Note - it was a red all day long.

4.) 05 Jan 2018 23:15:46
He was angry at himself for giving away the pen, fimino stood up to him and did t take to kindly to it, mountain out of a molehill for me. If it was a racist remark there would be more of a reaction from the Everton players imo.

5.) 05 Jan 2018 23:16:49
Well if he did say something the ref surely must of heard it as he was standing in front of Holgate when he kicked off like a mad man.

{Ed0333's Note - not sure the referee understands portuguese

6.) 05 Jan 2018 23:17:55
Thanks for filling me in Alonso! Big Sam’s interviewed made me nervous. Just don't want another Suarez incident. Anyway happy days we won haha.

7.) 05 Jan 2018 23:20:40
Does Holgate ed033?

{Ed0333's Note - let me text him I’ll let you know what he says.

8.) 05 Jan 2018 23:22:50
Crazy son of a b! tch he said. An he is right! If im wrong ill look a tit, however, i believe Colgate has kicked off at the word "puta" assuming its racism. If he has wrongfully accused firmino, i want a full statement and apology from colgate.
I mean the referee was stood right there, if he used the N word, he would of been sent off. Have we just seen someone play a race card? if we have, players have sunk to a low i never thought id see to get other players in trouble, and if he has he deserves a very long ban.

Of course, flip side, if firmino has used racist language ill be extremely disappointed and encourage a length ban.

{Ed025's Note - COLGATE benny?...maybe he was sending out the wrong SIGNAL as hes not ULTRA BRIGHT.... it was something and nothing mate and a line should be drawn under it for me ..

9.) 05 Jan 2018 23:34:24
OP, I'm not concerned with what Bobbie said. Would you care if someone almost injured you by shoving you into the stands as a defenseless player? What we should be outraged about is how a player who shoved a player into the stands (endangering his safety), grabbing the ref by his collar and swearing at him, finished the game? The ref was useless on that situation and yet people wonder why PL don't respect refs. The refs don't assert their authority. In other leagues, Holgate would have been sent off.

{Ed025's Note - sigh..

10.) 05 Jan 2018 23:45:16
Ahh that’s what it was Holgate is a Colgate user but bobby swears by oral b!

11.) 05 Jan 2018 23:29:31
Appreciate it ed0333 ;)

12.) 06 Jan 2018 00:02:04
Basically the ref should have dealt with it straight away and shown a red card. No need for Bobby to react once the ref makes the decision.
The ref totally mishandled the situation. I will defend refs a lot of the time but that was as poor as Andy Durso being hounded by Roy Keane and Jaap Stam.
I think Benny may be correct with his appraisal of the aftermath.

{Ed025's Note - anyone who pushes another person should be jailed for life, swearing 8-10 years, mistimed tackle 200hrs community service....tarts..

13.) 06 Jan 2018 00:04:50
Holgate got called something in Spanish whcibtrabslates to whore and has assumed the worst and went on one. The little boy was in the wrong and lucky to remain on the pitch, he should take a step back and realise he’s talented but not to be ‘that persob’ Nothing racist was said, nobody spat you canclearly see what was said and if Holgate knows the Portuguese for a racist term fair play but I doubt it and having watched the game with a half Brazilian (and half Irish so he may have been drunk) I can safely say nothing racist was said. None story carry on only thing would be Holgate getting a retrospective ban which in all honest, the games over and done move on and he’ll learn.

{Ed025's Note - move on is correct...cue abuse from the PC brigade..

14.) 06 Jan 2018 00:57:35
Holgate endangered Firimino’s health by deliberately pushing him into the hoardings/ crowd, not to mention the possibility of injury to a member of the crowd, for me that’s way up there as one of the most dangerous tackles of the season and should be seen as such even by blue tinted vision glasses.

{Ed025's Note - have a day off mate..

15.) 06 Jan 2018 01:07:57
Look guys - Holgate clearly shoved Bobby over the hoardings with some force, which Bobby reacted to which is, in my opinion, very normal.

This was a derby match with all the emotion that goes with it. Holgate was wrong and should have been yellow carded in my view.

In the end the Everton players were very wound up certainly by big Sam, who has just lost his 3rd game in a row, and is probably already looking over his shoulder.

We won without our best palyers, and I for one am very happy about that.

We are the team through to the next round.

16.) 06 Jan 2018 12:23:44
i’m sure derby days used to be like that for a full 90+ minutes but the game has gone soft 😞
Who doesn't love a crazy challenge and a fight in a derby? Cheer up guys bobby wasn’t injured.
