Review Of The Day 19th October 2018

{Ed's Note - Ed001 has posted a new article entitled, Review Of The Day 19th October 2018

19 Oct 2018 08:14:54
The joe hart training ground? Sounds like somewhere they built just to try and make him half decent.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - they failed then...}

19 Oct 2018 08:42:08
Cheers ed, good read. For a split second, having read firmane’s coments before the article, I thought Bielsa had given money to his old club and they had named it the Joe Hart trading ground 😂🙈. Nice touch by him though, it’s good when these guys give back, especially to an area of no doubt quite severe deprivation.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - if more people did that then the game would be much more competitive.}

19 Oct 2018 09:33:15
Thanks very much Ed, have a good one mate.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - you too mate.}

19 Oct 2018 09:37:06
Thanks Ed for update. Nice touch that by Bielsa, so much to like about that guy. I think Everton should buy Bolt. He fits their winger profile. Headless chicken that's quick as fk.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate. Gotta love Bielsa, mad but great.}

18 Oct 2018 23:27:11
What happened to divock origi eds I thought he had potential when he came here are Everton after him is he just not good enough.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - he just never got the run of games he needed to really develop and had a few issues on loan.}

19 Oct 2018 05:38:23
Shame about the lad, I don't know what went on in the background but I really thought he'd make it with us. Same goes for Solanke though, still very young of course but will he make it with us? I have my doubts personally. I think both players have a lot to offer but who you going to take off for one of them? that's the biggest issue imo especially when you have an in form Sturridge on the bench, the poor buggers don't stand a chance, just bad timing because of how quality the squad is at the moment.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - the issue with Origi is his loan move did not work out, for a number of reasons. That has left him on the outside looking in.}

19 Oct 2018 05:55:09
I've seen a few reports recently, he's being linked with a few clubs what are apparently interested, do you know of any truth to this rumour mate? sounds like he's on his way out to me, which tbh sounds like the best course of action for both the club and the player.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - we tried to sell him in the summer and he is still available. Though they are not against the right loan either.}

19 Oct 2018 06:05:02
Interesting, thanks very much Ed.

Agree0 1Disagree

{Ed001's Note - personally I would look to sell Solanke of the two, but there you go.}

19 Oct 2018 06:24:28
I'd agree with that because I see Origi being a good player given half the chance (which he's never going to get at Liverpool), he certainly has the potential there as does Solanke, just not for us.

I must admit though, seeing the youngsters fail at our club really does do my head in a bit because so many of them never get the chance they deserve, having said that, when you have a quality squad like ours, how can they get their chance. We have young Wilson out on loan who looks very good but would he get anywhere near our team? I highly doubt it. Fingers crossed for him, he is one I have high hopes for. Time will tell I suppose.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - I personally think Solanke was a mistake. He is a good player but I see nothing in him to suggest he is good enough for Liverpool.}

19 Oct 2018 07:11:03
Have to feel sorry for both players there careers are just put on hold for maybe years. Think you have to be very special to be able get into forward position at the club.

Agree0 0Disagree

19 Oct 2018 08:18:57
Think we could use Origi as cover for the wings (I’m sure I read once that that’s his preferred position) . I still think the lad has something to offer.

Agree1 0Disagree

18 Oct 2018 19:50:22
Not been on for a while Ed. Sorry if I've missed all the posts covering it but how's our injury crisis in reality? No Mane, Keita, Salah, van Dyke?

Agree0 1Disagree

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any injury crisis. Mane has hurt his thumb but that does not impact his game. Keita has an issue the club has yet to comment on. There is nothing wrong with Salah or Van Dijk.}

18 Oct 2018 21:40:21
The fans are having a crisis about an injury crisis that is not a crisis.
Our squad this season has a lot of quality in depth, even if all them players missed a game we have the quality in reserve for it not to matter too much.

Agree4 0Disagree

{Ed025's Note - i agree mikey, and your next 2 opponents are very easy meat..

18 Oct 2018 22:34:06
Van Dyke? Is she in the women’s team?

Agree1 0Disagree

18 Oct 2018 23:31:44
I didn’t know Dick’s nephew had signed for Liverpool.

Agree1 1Disagree

19 Oct 2018 06:12:06
Great. So if both our matchday keepers sustain an injury in the 90 minutes, we can't put Mane in goal. Sounds like potentially a major crisis there.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - argggghhhhh!!!!! Now I am panicking, quick call the FA and arrange an emergency loan of 7 goalkeepers for the bench....}

18 Oct 2018 14:13:48
How's the article comparing our current squad with the 08/ 09 squad coming along Ed?
Can't wait for the game on the weekend, feels like this international break has gone on forever again!

Agree3 1Disagree

{Ed001's Note - do you mean this one?

18 Oct 2018 15:42:07
Great article Tris.

We will no doubt be accused of having failing memories (esp you :-P) but I can honestly say I've not felt as confident watching us play as I vaguely remember I did during the end of our golden era. Given I Was 13 when we last won the league, those memories are very hazy, but this confidence in the team is both very satisfying and a little bit scary!

Agree6 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - agreed mate, it does feel like the closest to glory since that time.}

18 Oct 2018 17:04:53
Fantastic article Ed001, really enjoyed that. I think in sports in general, but particularly football, people tend to look at era’s with rose tinted glasses. But I thought you were fair throughout.

I’d probably go with Robertson over Aurelio as I have a hard time looking past his fitness issues, but as you aptly pointed out this was a comparison between the teams at their best. I mentioned the other day that I thought the biggest difference between the squads was the quality in wingers, really just goes to show. Though I do wonder what Torres could have done with better service. Would love to have Gerrard and Xabi in the current squad.

Agree1 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, glad you enjoyed. It was hard choosing between them but today's team is a whole squad of quality whereas that was 7or 8 and then fillers.}

18 Oct 2018 17:12:11
Thanks Ed! Don’t know how I missed that, have a good one.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - I did it during the international window so it wasn't long ago.}

18 Oct 2018 17:51:40
Nabil El Zhar scored recently in Leganes 2-1 win over Barcelona. I was surprised to see that he is still playing.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - he has scored a few recently, it woke me up as well, I had completely forgotten about that waste of money. He was one of our highest paid players ever when we signed him.}

18 Oct 2018 18:01:33
Was this article posted up on the site Ed because I don't remember it mate? maybe it's just old age and I've already forgot about it! Either way, fantastic article as always, keep them coming mate, quality.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, well I posted it on the thread that reminded me about it, I don't know if the autolink generated as well. Maybe it didn't work then, I never thought to check.}

18 Oct 2018 18:11:17
Really enjoyed that. Thanks edd 1 bravo.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - cheers neggy glad to hear that. Though that was a positive comment be careful!! ;-)

18 Oct 2018 18:26:51
Ah it might be just me not remembering Ed mate lol memory like a sieve at times!

I must ask Walter, are you feeling well? a positive comment! does this mean we're changing you mate? slowly but surely making you into a believer! ;)

Agree0 0Disagree

18 Oct 2018 20:01:16
Hi Ed001, I know that Kuyt isn't a quality player, but he makes up for it with his working off the socks and has some good finishing skills. I would also think that Benyaoun is another good small player.

Agree1 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - Benayoun was excellent but Rafa kept him on the fringes of the team far too much, understandable as his best position was off the striker and Gerrard played there. If Gerrard hadn't thrown his toys out of the pram about playing on the right, where he had his best season, then Benayoun would have played behind Torres and excelled more I think.}

18 Oct 2018 20:22:40
Loved Benayoun as a player. Not only his talent and ability BUT most of all, his work rate, work ethic and relentless attitude to the cause. Great player and a gentleman.

Agree3 0Disagree

18 Oct 2018 20:46:11
Brilliant stuff ed, can't wait to read it. Thank you very much.

Agree1 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate.}

18 Oct 2018 21:00:24
Very interesting article, thanks Ed001.
I missed that first time around too somehow.
One thing not mentioned, in favour of the 09 team, was a more even spread of goals around the respective teams.
09’s defence scored a very decent amount, whilst Gerrard in midfield was a huge contributor.
Our team now is very reliant on the front three, as we’ve seen. We really need the other parts of the team to start adding goals too.
Having said that, today’s team is chock full of pace all over, and I think they’d be too much for the 09 boys perhaps.

Add Gerrard, Alonso and Torres to today’s squad and it could well win the League.
Or add Van Dijk, Mane and Salah to 09’s and that would have too!?
Hey ho.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - let's hope we have enough to win it without those 3.}

18 Oct 2018 21:29:51
Brilliant read and analysis, Ed. I had posted on an earlier thread on this same issue and w/ o even blinking, I said that this team is better than the '09 team, hands down esp. now that we have a better GK, defence and depth in the team. However, the way you analysed both team (awash with pace) in the article was pin-point and bar the midfield (no one can argue with Xabi and SG) of the 0'09 team, Klopp's team is way better in near every other dept. I mean, imagine Carra, Skrtel, Hyppia (the later two were great), going against the relentless movement and guile of Salah, Bobbie and Mane? That would be epic.

Also, Rafa only had Utd to contend with, just as BR only had City to contend with and they screwed up mainly due to their arrogance and ego (esp. BR) BUT the bar is WAY higher for Klopp now cos he has near 4 teams to contend with hence, his margin for error is minute. Hope he can succeed were the others failed. YNWA!

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - 4 teams? Surely it is only City to contend with?}

18 Oct 2018 22:32:11
City, Chelsea. and ourselves as our main challenges to the title in my opinion. If we keep our heads and teams start attacking city I think we’ll be grand. Could be a great season. Regardless, second season in a row with heart in my mouth - that’s what football is about.

Agree0 0Disagree

18 Oct 2018 22:54:36
Not sure if it was mentioned when comparing now with 08/09, after 8 games we were joint top with Chelsea on 20 points and united were on 14 points, just one more point than they have now.

Agree0 0Disagree

18 Oct 2018 23:33:11
Showed how hood rafa was though! Love the bloke.

Agree0 0Disagree

18 Oct 2018 22:41:50
What a brillant read ed.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - thank you Para.}

19 Oct 2018 06:37:39
The 4-1 win at Old Trafford was great but the 11 draws did for us that season which I guess shows the lack of squad depth and maybe Rafa’s tactics were slightly more defensive because of this . think we started and ended the season great but struggled to cope with champions league and domestic cups along with league fixtures
Will be interesting to see if Klopp can manage this better squad effectively through the season.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - Rafa's tactics were defensive because that is the way Rafa plays, nothing to do with squad depth.}

19 Oct 2018 06:59:58
I was trying to be generous to him . great coach bit overly defensive.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - I love Rafa, but, no matter how generous you can be, he blew that season by being too defensive at the start.}

18 Oct 2018 10:55:57
Hi Ed001,

Just a general footy question. When Kyllian Mbappe came on the scene, I felt you just knew he was something special and would become a world beater. Just like the same feeling I had with Messi. Are there any other players at the moment you feel that way about?

Thanks.

Agree2 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - that young lad Pellegri is the only one I can think of right now. There probably is more but my mind has gone blank.}

18 Oct 2018 12:54:34
This lad lost any single match he has scored in so far, unlucky.

Agree0 0Disagree

18 Oct 2018 13:20:29
Cengiz Under is another one. One day he'll be huge imo. Top notch.

Agree3 0Disagree

18 Oct 2018 14:28:29
Don’t rule out benny baller, still at the young age of 27. Those two goals at the charity match shows he’s still a fox in the box.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed025's Note - i think your more of an origi than a salah though benny, plenty of effort without that finesse and guile of a top performer mate.. :)

18 Oct 2018 14:52:02
Pellegri has looked great when he's gotten a game, though his move to Monaco has been plagued by injuries which I hope he recovers from. Also Jardim leaving is a huge loss, he's a genius when it comes to developing youth players.

Agree0 0Disagree

18 Oct 2018 20:23:44
Ismail Sarr of Rennes (brilliant at the WC for Senegal) is another one to watch for, I think.

Review Of The Day 18th October 2018

{Ed's Note - Ed001 has posted a new article entitled, Review Of The Day 18th October 2018

Agree1 0Disagree

18 Oct 2018 07:52:30
Thanks for that Ed001.

I presume Vidal's fight not during a game, otherwise discreetly carrying a 3l bottle of vodka around during a game may have been a might distracting.

Agree1 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - sorry I should have specified it was in a nightclub. He would have got away with it if he had been on the pitch in a Bayern shirt....}

18 Oct 2018 08:05:31
Sounds like he did anyway Ed if he only got a fine.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - true, he could have got a lengthy jail sentence.}

18 Oct 2018 08:32:13
I'm surprised by that to be honest, a fine for doing that? unbelievable. They get away with it all of the time and it's wrong, they should be treat the same as everybody else, anybody else would've been put in jail but because he's a footballer he gets away with it? it's wrong and it does my head in. He's a thug who should no longer be part of the sport.

Thanks very much Ed, have a great Thursday mate.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - good point, when you actually think about it he did get away with it.}

18 Oct 2018 08:54:08
A brain injury?! Christ. Also sad to hear about my fellow Taffy Cotterill. Is it me or are more professionals being a lot more open about mental health lately? Fantastic for awareness.

Cheers ed have a good one!

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - I fear Cotterill will regret his decision. While depression is a big problem for footballers (sportspeople in general to be fair) that is often because of the removal of the sport from their lives. The routine, the sunlight and regular exercise are all very good for dealing with depression and he has now removed it from his life. I just hope he has good people around him.}

18 Oct 2018 09:04:00
Excellent point actually. Like you say hopefully has a good support network and he can get this endorphins elsewhere. Cheers mate.

Agree2 0Disagree

18 Oct 2018 09:19:48
By the sounds of what he says, he already has a plan in place moving forward of helping people. A lot of people that suffer depression take a lot of joy and peace out of helping others. Sort of I can't control how I feel but I can help others not feel this way so it's a feeling of satisfaction and calm you maybe can't find the equalibrium for your own life. I hope this is the case with him and he finds true happiness in helping others as like ed says, if not, he could find himself very lonely and without the one thing he may feel made him someone.

Agree2 0Disagree

18 Oct 2018 09:53:11
That's how I look at it as well Ed, I'd understand if he'd dropped some litter and got a fine, that's normal but assaulting somebody like that and getting a fine for it? it makes no sense to me mate. I've seen people go down for far less. 800 grand is bugger all to him so he'll be laughing.

Who's pocket has he lined? what a prick. Sore subject for me I must admit, it winds me up big time because too many of them get away with stuff yet if you or I go and do something like that then it's game over, if you're rich you get away with everything under the bloody sun.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - very true, and then they even make you POTUS afterwards.}

18 Oct 2018 09:53:40
That’s terrible regarding Vidal, as much as I love my football, players seem to be treated completely differently, like they’re bloody royalty. A fine is nothing compared to what’s that poor chap on the receiving end will have to deal with for the rest of his life!

These players can afford the best lawyers, so they get away with everything. Imagine if say you or I did this, prison sentence for GBH!

On another note, I listened to most of Peter Moore’s interview conducted by Steve Hothersall whilst traveling into Manchester office, he made some really interesting points regarding the club.

Agree0 0Disagree

18 Oct 2018 10:41:40
The world is normal again, thank you Ed. I just want to echo what others have said about Vidal. To assault someone with a bottle and cause brain damage should carry more than a fine. Absolutely ridiculous how he is getting away with that. He's probably strutting around like he can get away with anything. I'd argue that he got away with attempted murder. That my be hyperbole on my part, but the point is if you or i did the same thing, we'd be thrown away.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate.}

18 Oct 2018 10:44:16
Cheers Ed, can’t help thinking Real Madrid’s viewpoint would be a total opposite one had they been asked first. Cutting off noses to spite faces and all that. It may be the cynic in me, but although being the loudest, they are definitely not the most suitable ones to be making a moral standpoint on anything.

That West Ham deal still makes me sick. Be as nefarious, greedy, underhand and ignorant as you like, but when you are a Premier League club especially, do it on a private commercial basis and don’t play around with (effectively) tax payers assets. Why should the people of London (or anywhere) have had to stump up for the construction of West Ham’s stadium, then potentially subsidise them playing in it as well? It makes my blood boil seeing those two horrible vampires sat in the stands rubbing their hands together, both looking like they’ve got a bear trap attached to their legs. Saying that, it doesn’t take a lot for me to get narked off about something nowadays, so whatever.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - I think Real Madrid would be against anything Barcelona want and vice versa.}

18 Oct 2018 10:49:30
wow he got away with a fine. really players should be a role model, these are people that are looked up by a lot of the younger generation. shame people like this continue to be in the top tier of football.

you make a good point there ed001, while we are a strong team, and a team that not many would like to up against, we are massively lacking in the trophies department, something that has to change beginning with this season. players will join us, but their ultimate goal will always be to win trophies.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate.}

18 Oct 2018 14:31:49

16 Oct 2018 16:56:51
He would be milners replacement.

Agree4 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - The club has no shortage of players available. I don’t know another set of fans who moan anything like the Liverpool fans about potential knocks and minor injuries.}

16 Oct 2018 17:03:43
The concern is that one of players who could of potentially replaced Milner who is also currently injured now may not be able to
Im sure he would of started in our next game as he did against Napoli in the champions league.

Agree4 1Disagree

{Ed002's Note - Must be another conspiracy against Liverpool.}

16 Oct 2018 17:06:55
He might of been with Milner injured ed. I guess we have options. Just frustrating seeing all our key players Mane Salah Vvd and now Keita injured on international duty.

Agree3 1Disagree

{Ed002's Note - There is a minor hand issue for Mane. Salah didn’t blubber or even fill his adult nappy - so nothing wrong with him. Van Dijk was not injured but arrived with some minor rib pain that he decided he could play with, and did, and then was allowed home whilst being rested for the next game. But I appreciate the Liverpool fans are unable to see or comprehend any of this.}

16 Oct 2018 17:10:49
It’s a shame the window is shut 😟.

I get what your saying ed, you have more info than me though mate tbf we just see the news on injured players which is often guess work. You no facts and with what youve said above I guess I should chill until the club updates us.

{Ed002's Note - That is why people should wait until the club say something. As a guide, if a player gets a kick or pulls up during a game, it will usually be two days before an X-ray can be taken to allow swelling to go down. That is when the club will have medical staff will be able to give a reasonable assessment and a statement will be made if necessary. Having Klopp come out after a game and say the injury is serious or not serious is meaningless. It just means he has been looking at the player in the showers - and there is every chance that is not because of his injury (if you get my meaning).}

We, as fans and as paying fans, have every right to get annoyed when our club players get injured on international duty.

Alex Ferguson, he protected his players right? . Too right he did, take Giggs for instance, Fergie kept him away from international friendlies between 1990 -94 in order to protect his valuable asset. Club v Country is not a new debate, it’s been going on for years, even more so since there’s so much money in the game in today’s game.

I’vd never been the biggest Ferguson fan but at least he had the clout to stand up for what was best for Manchester United.

I’m not surprised we are all winging and moaning when our players get injured on meaningless international games.

{Ed002's Note - It is posts like this that make Liverpool supporters a laughing stock. This constantly spewing irrational and ill-informed hate truly is a joke.}

Ed002 - I’m trying to give you a lengthy response but the site keeps switching to an Amazon gaming competition, not sure but maybe you want to mention this to Ed001.

{Ed002's Note - Why not type it in Notepad or Word and cut and paste it - tomorrow I will be travelling but look forward to reading it on Thursday and replying, but I will let Ed033 know there is an issue.}

Have it be quick before it switches! Safe trip Ed002.

Drogie, your post about Fergie, meaningless friendlies (whatever the heck that means) and injuries (you know, a work hazard for pro athletes) and all that, makes very little sense and lacks any type of logic and nuance. BTW, what Fergie did about 20 years ago would NEVER fly now under the current inter'l football rules.
