Just wondering what happened to the interest in Andre? Any chance Liverpool will go back in for him?

Seems like he would have been a good fit, but not sure how he has been playing recently.

 0

{Ed002's Note - Andre Trindade (DM) Recommended to Liverpool as Fabinho cover three years ago but their interest has only came to the fore last summer, but they dropped the ball on this one now and stepped back. Prior interest of Arsenal, Atletico, Barcelona and Braga has gone. I would not totally rule out Napoli but they may be some way off meeting the transfer fee or indeed Manchester United who will need a Casemiro replacement. Manchester City will need a Phillips replacement and may also make an offer. Fulham are keen to take him if Bayern Munich return and they lose Palinha - Fulham have worked on deal to overcome the issue of Fluminense only owning 80% of his rights and agreed a fee with Fluminense in January, but it will only happen should Palhinho leave in the summer and the player agrees.}

We need to sign a natural DM as a priority this summer.

Hi Eds,
Any information regarding Trent future at the club? Do they plan to play him in Midfield and bring a new Rb to compete with Bradly.

And what's the situation with his contract? Any chance he will leave this summer so we won't lose him for free next summer?

Also VVD contract, if there is any info regarding that.

 0

{Ed002's Note - Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB/RWB/RM) Seen by Real Madrid as an option to Reece James. If Liverpool are going to try and sign Rodrygo Goes, they may be able to offer Alexander-Arnold plus perhaps €60M for him. Alternatively, Madrid may try persuade the player's agent to have their client run down his contract.

Virgil van Dijk (CB) I am told that van Dijk's agents have said that had approaches from both Real Madrid and Barcelona. Real Madrid see VvD as a low cost solution in terms of transfer fee but need to make space in the wage structure. Barcelona offer an option but will need to agree sales first. Bayern Munich also made a general enquiry, but no more than that. At this point in time it will be very general enquiries only and I doubt any of these clubs will move for him. Suggestion that Al Qadsiah, who are a fairly minor side in Saudi Arabia and play in the equivalent of the Championship, are interested in him may be true, but I really can't see any chance of a move there. I am not aware of the reported interest of Borussia Dortmund being true. I would think that Liverpool might look to perhaps a two year extension - else they could be forced to listen to offers rather than have his contract run down.}

Seeing some reports that Khéphren Thuram could be available for around €15-20 million. Are Liverpool still interested or have they moved on from him completely?

 0

{Ed002's Note - Khephren Thuram (CM/DM) Nice felt they were messed around by clubs last summer and then the player picked up an injury. Interest of Spurs and, in particular, Juventus remains but Liverpool will look to other options. Interest of Newcastle will likely of fallen away. Milan may offer an option. Has not had a great season so clubs will be way of taking him on as he enters the last year of his contract. Nice could look to a new contract given the emergence of Alexis Beka Beka has hit a huge problem and they will now be regretting the sale of impressive youngster Reda Belahyane to Verona. Nice do not want to sell and again a move to Old Trafford will not be welcomed by the Nice supporters. Real Madrid have him on a list of potential additions given they are facing midfield departures in the summer - and I would not rule them, or indeed Manchester City or Barcelona, out. Player wants PSG but they continue to have no interest - but his representative is pushing PSG as well as Real Madrid and will encourage the player to wait out his contract and see what happens.}

Any chance of debunking the latest media blurb on interest in Anthony Gordon?

 3

13 May 2024 16:22:27
I think he’s being lined up by Channel 4 as a stunt double for Claire Balding in the even she bumps into an unmuzzled pit bull.

 16

13 May 2024 17:33:44
Man United-bound, I reckon. Although, it would be a step down in his career after Newcastle and Everton.

 6

13 May 2024 18:27:48
I heard he was playing the lead role in the up coming Postman Pat live action film.

 5

13 May 2024 18:51:32
The funniest thing is that they are rating him at 100 million. People have no sense of the value of money anymore, especially when it's not their own.

 3

13 May 2024 19:59:32
£100 million for the Dying Swan?
Not even in the wildest most extreme circumstances.
Serial diver who ain't all that.

 7

13 May 2024 23:34:56
Bobby, I heard he was takin a break from acting after playing Johnny Lawrence in the karate kid.

 2

14 May 2024 00:15:29
In fairness Adam, I don’t think he’d go to United. He’s one of us and hates United. Give the lad some credit.

Didn’t stop Rooney VV.

Rumours are Liverpool will offer Allison a new deal and Caoimhin Kelleher will be released and a new understudy sought.

I personally think this is the wrong move. Allison is nearing the end of his time at this level and Kelleher has proved himselfwhen he has stood on.

I say keep Kelleher and release Allison.

 1

13 May 2024 07:35:07
GettIng a new first choice is far more problematic than getting a new second choice in. Go ahead and name one keeper out there as good as Alisson or with the potential to be as good. How many years did we have to put up with the likes of Mignolet and Karius?

 34

13 May 2024 07:56:16
“I say keep Kelleher and release Allison”

Keep an average premier league/ strong championship level goalkeeper and release the best goalkeeper in world football?

Yeah, no thanks.

(No disrespect mean to Kelleher as he’s been great when called upon in cup games but if we’re all honest he will never be Allison)

 29

13 May 2024 08:22:24
Don’t see Allisson form dropping off any time soon.

 16

13 May 2024 09:07:26
Alisson's 31. That's barely a teenager in goalkeeper years. We'll get plenty out of him yet.

 16

13 May 2024 09:39:02
I can see Kelleher going and us bringing back Jaros - seems to be doing very well on loan!

 3

13 May 2024 09:44:14
I’ll be honest I don’t think he is and will ever be a top keeper Kelleher don’t get me wrong he’s very good but not top class.

 3

13 May 2024 09:49:59
I don't think people should be so flippant about the risk with relying on Alisson. He misses a lot of games for a keeper and as he get's older that is likely to get worse, not better. There aren't many if any at his level when he's fit but he's got to be fit to be the best.

I would let Kelleher leave if he wants to go, but I'd be in no rush to push him out the door. If he does leave Jaros is doing really well for Sturm Graz and is about to help them win the Austrian league. Might be a good back up option at only 22 years old.

 6

13 May 2024 10:06:08
As a point of order, Karius played 29 games for Liverpool, which in real terms is slightly less than half a season. So we didn’t have to ‘put up with him’ for that long.

Everybody is entitled to an opinion. Wanting to sell the number one number one on the planet is quite a ‘radical’ opinion.

 4

13 May 2024 10:16:37
There’s a huge difference between Becker and Kelleher.

Becker has 4-5 years left in him.
Time to develop a new number 2, or start looking for a new number 1.

 5

13 May 2024 10:27:46
Alisson is coming to the end of his time at this level? He's 31.

Ederson is 30. Martinez is 31. Oblak is 31. Courtois is 32. Ter Stegen is 32.

Manuel Neuer is 38.

Who is replacing all these pensioners?

 19

13 May 2024 10:52:47
Allison is world class! So why would you move him on. He probably got another 8 years at high level football so do everything you can to keep him.

 8

13 May 2024 10:55:35
Karius actually played 49 games when you rope in the cup games too. Which is a reign of terror that went on 49 games longer than it should have done.

 4

13 May 2024 12:50:58
Allisson will be top draw for probably 2 more contracts yet.

 3

13 May 2024 14:42:52
In the 49 games he played in across all competitions we won 27, drew 13 and lost 9. In the 29 league games he played he kept 13 clean sheets. Hardly a reign of terror is it? His most notable game was the final when it seemed he played with initially undiagnosed concussion. As usual you don’t like a player so you resort to easy sound bites and crass generalisations to make your opinion in some way sound legitimate. Karius wasn’t the best goalkeeper we’ve ever had but he wasn’t the worst.

As an aside do you know what the ‘Reign of Terror’ actually was? If you do how is state sanctioned violence appropriate to a football goal keeper? If you don’t then look it up.

 5

13 May 2024 14:56:36
Loan Kelleher to a PL side of we can find one to take him IMO - he’s a great option in a year or two but wouldn’t dream of losing Allison right now. We need senior leadership in the coming transition under Arne Slot.

 4

13 May 2024 16:25:05
Whenever it comes to our players, I always try to think would I buy this player if he was not already at LFC. I think that answer is a definite yes for Allisson and a maybe at best for Kelleher:

Don’t get me wrong - I am a big fan of Kelleher’s, but you can pick only one goalie and Alisson is the best out there.

 2

13 May 2024 16:38:21
WDW, Karius was poor in every game he played in, he always looked like he’d concede a goal and made unforced errors every game putting pressure on to the defence. I can’t recall one game where he looked remotely like a competent keeper. He was far too busy worrying about his hairstyle and his LK1 brand. Maybe he’s not the absolute worst, but he’s only got Adam Bogdan, Charles Itandje and Daniele Padelli worse than him and to be fair to them they were only bought in as back up keepers. He was the worst first choice keeper we’ve had in a very very long time.

As for reign of terror, look up dramatic irony. Seems to be beyond you, WDW.

 0

13 May 2024 18:06:07
Karius was a decent keeper who had the worst day ever.
The idea of selling Alisson is beyond daft. Like so far beyond daft as to be laughable.

Some fans just love buying and selling players. It’s a small part f the game for actual footy fans but the entirety of the sport for e-reds.

 2

13 May 2024 23:21:10
Well said w0rdsmith.

 1

14 May 2024 10:59:29
The death of people is your idea of a suitable subject for your interpretation of dramatic irony? Says quite a bit about your understanding of irony and your outlook on the value of human life.

 1

{Ed025's Note - i think you may be taking things too literally WDW. im sure he did not mean nothing by it mate...it was just an off the cuff remark as i see it..

 0

12 May 2024 18:30:50
See us linked with Anthony Gordon now, anything in this?

 2

{Ed002's Note - Anthony Gordon (W) Left footed winger who has had a good season but is not attracting interest. Newcastle need sales before June 30 and want to hold on to Guimaraes and Isak but may let Gordon move on with a perhaps Yankuba Minthe slotting in when he leaves Feyenoord, who want another loan, in the summer. I am not aware of any interest from Liverpool, and the price Newcastle would demand likely puts a transfer out of reach.}

 4

12 May 2024 23:37:37
Yeah they overpaid for him and will want more to sell him.
Decent player but not at crazy prices.

 5

13 May 2024 06:06:06
He plays most of his best games when the team are a couple of goals up.

 0

13 May 2024 10:29:12
Would be surprising to see us buy anyone from Newcastle again, unless it is a youth prospect.

 1

13 May 2024 11:58:54
Top player and has the a fantastic head on his shoulders and top attitude. I highly recommend his overlap interview with Gary Neville to anyone who hasn’t seen it.

 1

13 May 2024 13:05:18
Obviously the ‘fantastic’ reference stops at the follicles on his head…that’s one bad Barnet that is!

 0

13 May 2024 13:45:25
Seems to be getting a lot of traction this morning. Good player who can play right across the attack. Came across as a Liverpool fan in his interview as well. Said Gerrard is his idol and he models his game on Salah. Gordon, Gakpo and Diaz as options on the wings would be scintillating. All 3 love to drop the shoulder and run at players.

 0

13 May 2024 18:11:53
I think he's good and would take him but would be very expensive and I doubt he could afford it unless Salah goes for mega bucks.

 0

14 May 2024 08:37:20
I like the use of the words head and shoulders when talking about Gordon, Oney.

 0

14 May 2024 14:14:34
Allison is over 30. He will take longer and longer to recover from injuries now and will get slower. This isn't the Frist Division of old where at the very top, players regulalry went on to their late-30s. The pace and demands of the game are far harder now and Allison is not gong to be any better than he is - he has peaked and you've seen the best of him. I personally wion't be surprised if one of the first things Arne Slot looks at is the whole defensive unit because it is struggling to function cohesively and has been for most of the season.

12 May 2024 17:44:07
Hi again Ed002 - anything more concrete on a £69mill tentative bid for Aurélien Tchouaméni which is currently doing the rumour-whisper-around?! And with Julian Ward now back as part of the back room Dream Team will FSG give them a substantial warchest for Slot or will it be sell first and buy later? Thanks as always 👍.

 0

{Ed002's Note - Aurelien Tchouameni (CM/DM) Real Madrid do not wish to sell but recovering the money spent last year would go a long way towards topping up the Mbappe pot. Real Madrid has spoken to with Chelsea, who were previously blocked from completing negotions for the player, about him during discussions over two other players and some sort of exchange may be possible, but I suspect uilikely this summer. Bayern Munich have also told Real Madrid that they will be interested if he were to be made available, but they would like a loan with an option to buy although an exchange may be possible with Davies. Manchester United would be interested in taking him if available. There is no declared interest from elsewhere and any move seems unlikely. Previously illegally tapped up by Klopp but Liverpool but Liverpool may just return to see what can be done but there is certainly no advanced talks or bids. Madrid would possibly look to a part exchange with Trent Alexander Arnold.

I don't know what you mean by a "warchest" but Liverpool will have the funds to ensure the squad remains competitive.}

 9

12 May 2024 21:43:31
I personally think losing Trent would be a catastrophic move and would much prefer to keep him than p/ x him with Tchouameni 😱. By “war chest “ I mean additional funds on top of what we’ll get for finishing 3rd in PL (circa £170 mill ) PLUS circa £17 mill for CL qualification. They were prepared to splash £110 mill for Caicedo and that hasn’t been spent (apart for Endo purchase) 🤷🏼.

 9

12 May 2024 23:21:33
You do realise Schultzy that transfer funds aren’t determined by league placements. There’s only £3m difference in prize money between finishing places.

 5

13 May 2024 06:08:59
There’s always been a big box in Edwards’s office where we keep the war chest for transfers. Every week we have a whip round and put the cash in the chest.

 7

13 May 2024 06:42:24
I always thought it was just a sack with a huge dollar sign drawn on the front of it. Good to know that it's an actual chest.

 5

13 May 2024 08:02:46
And get 10 lucky dips to see if we can boost it up a little Dracred.

 0

13 May 2024 10:31:08
Ah, the annual Tchouameni chase. He's the new Simao.

 1

13 May 2024 12:01:16
If it came down to it would you take Trent and Endo or Bradley and Tchouameni interested as to what people should choose.

 0

13 May 2024 13:50:33
Fuser we will earn over £165 million for finishing 3rd in PL which goes straight on the bottom line so I’d like to think (perhaps naively indeed) they’d spend a large portion of that on an incoming quality left back, centre back and DCM…. not too much to ask for is it! 🙏 Howling at some of the comments on FSG 🤣🤣👍.

 1

13 May 2024 14:46:41
@OneKiss, what makes you think it is one or the other. We already have TAA, Bradley and Endo, why don’t we just buy Tchouameni too and have all four?

 0

13 May 2024 15:03:14
Can we please stop using words like warchest. It's a transfer kitty. We're not at war. In this day and age, it's a bit insensitive.

 1

{Ed033's Note - Transfer kitty's are for women's football. :)

 4

13 May 2024 15:52:49
Football finances are so massively misunderstood by fans. Everyone thinks it's like household finances.

Clubs almost always spend money they don't have and then aim to gain the money later via a variety of means.

The transfer fee is actually the cheapest part of a transfer, salaries are the most expensive and the part which accountants sweat over the most.

 1

13 May 2024 16:16:44
I don't get the impression at all that the player wants out, further complicating any potential transfer. He had previously spurned LFC for Madrid after speaking with Klopp directly, so I just can't see him being interested in this move at the moment.

 0

13 May 2024 22:01:15
mftjones, but now his godfather (slot) is taking over the reigns.
