Barcola + Mbaye progressing really well, the previous timeline I mentioned still stands, next week is going to be the one.

We will also look to add a midfielder, Wharton is still a strong possibility, Gavi is another mentioned, however, I'd like a destroyer in and haven't really heard of any credible links.

The search for an opportunistic cover for Isak also goes on (could be the last deal like I mentioned) but if not, the club will probably use Wirtz/Barco;a/Munoz in there.

Gakpo just made his case even stronger tonight. Unsure we sell for even 80M now.

16 Aug 2026 21:31:22
I'd keep Gakpo, be silly to let him go, especially to another Premiership side. He's a good player.

16 Aug 2026 21:45:03
With Rodri now confirmed to Barca, it could be Gavi to us.

16 Aug 2026 22:16:04
Red Jones, Gavi would be just another useless Arthur Melo type signing. He completely lacks the physicality required for the Premier League and he is injury prone.

16 Aug 2026 18:46:18
Get in there jacket lad.

16 Aug 2026 19:53:00
Three fit centre backs...How did that happen.

16 Aug 2026 19:56:10
Wonder who's preferred to partner VVD, Jacquet or Araujo?

16 Aug 2026 20:01:27
And, on the evidence of the game, both of those new guys are a massive set up from Konate. Jacquet, in particular, was excellent.

16 Aug 2026 23:49:54
Went to the game, SK, he was immense. Composed, strong on and off the ball, good in the air, and could pick a pass out. He looks the real deal. Excited to watch this lad.

17 Aug 2026 00:55:43
@Jojo65, Ndiaye also an option - so that's 4 fit centre backs. Gomez back soon and TYLFP working his way back to fitness. The panic merchants must feel a little silly.

16 Aug 2026 14:28:47
With all the advanced cameras and computing power, it won’t be long before you will be able to buy a virtual seat at Anfield, so opening up more revenue as each seat could be sold to multiple people with atmospheric sound. It would be the next best thing to being there.

I see Jeff Bezos Marketing Assistant has found the site.

16 Aug 2026 18:58:35
You mean like watching on tv but from 1 single camera positioned somewhere in the stands? Yeah. Sounds great.

16 Aug 2026 19:54:49
Exactly Shipley, nonsense idea.

16 Aug 2026 19:59:47
Not just one angle, Shipley, multiple, you get to choose. You could watch from a player's point of view. They already do it in F1, horse racing, tech is already there. Just another variant on pay per view.

16 Aug 2026 20:14:59
Be funny when you guys find out this Bezos deal is really Arne Slot having a laugh.

16 Aug 2026 20:46:21
@Bauldy, Sorry, my mistake. So your 'virtual seat' is just TV then? But you want the players to wear helmets with cameras in them like F1 drivers?

16 Aug 2026 22:20:13
Or maybe lots of little cameras placed around the stands, like the ones on gimbles on drones.
Pair that with a VR headset or a pair of XR glasses and it would be very immersive.

17 Aug 2026 11:21:49
VAR is bad enough, this is why I don't like complying people, many things need going against not funding it in.

16 Aug 2026 13:07:11
Solid first impression from Munoz for me. ?

Only a friendly, but it was a really solid first impression for me.

His movement was sharp, intelligent runs, always looking to get in behind and the resemblance to Jota is actually weird, not just how he plays, he genuinely has a look of him too.

Mannerisms, style, the lot. It's uncanny. ?

Fits Iraola's way of playing perfectly, works hard, no fuss. Early days still, but a really promising start, definitely one to keep an eye on. ?

Have to say that Elliott was in awful shape. Unprofessional coming back overweight like he has.

16 Aug 2026 16:10:34
Is he overweight, or has he bulked up? I remember reading an article where it was written he bulked up to get physically stronger. Agree though, it looks weird. However, the coaches would have sorted it out by now, if there was something they didn't want.

16 Aug 2026 18:14:47
The kind of bulking up he's done is scramming pies. He looks unfit.

16 Aug 2026 11:10:29
Are our recruitment team even working?

I understand football transfers are slow. But wow, and we never seem to sell well, like Chelsea. We wanted 40m for Jones, now we just agree ok you can have him for 30m euro.

16 Aug 2026 12:46:48
He's only worth what others are willing to pay. There's no queue of clubs outside the door. I guess we've assessed his value at c£35m based on age and experience, and length of contract remaining, but no one else agrees, so it's taking forever.

16 Aug 2026 13:39:18
We could probably get more for Jones in England, but he probably just wants Inter or no one else. We don't know. Don't think you can give out about what the club have recouped on sales over the last decade or so.

16 Aug 2026 14:01:04
Jones is only worth what anyone in the market is willing to pay for him. It's very telling that for a home grown player, not one top club in the Premier League was remotely interested. He's just not that good, a very ordinary player at best.

16 Aug 2026 20:30:44
Last chance to get a fee for him, as next window he will just sign a pre contract and he's gone for free. Take the offer and move on, it's pure profit from an academy product.

16 Aug 2026 10:27:59
Lads and lady's Edds and Reds

Give us some news on incomings.

Just over 2 weeks to go now. Although we have some kids stepping up. We need more. VG is there anything imminent?

I'm checking in here so often I feel like the screen of my phone is frozen.

Come on you mighty reds!

From what we've read from the reliable ITKs, it looks like it's Barcola, Mbaye and Gavi. Apparently no Barcola or Mbaye in the PSG squad today, so promising. I wouldn't mind these three to be honest.

I've been impressed by the three new signings today. Munoz is pacy and works hard. Araujo has been here less, and will take the week to get up to speed, but looks promising. Jacquet was the standout today, looks comfortable on the ball and is strong and composed.

If the above are our six new signings, then I'm happy with that going into the new season. Wirtz and Isak look sharp and are building an understanding.

We also have Leoni returning soon. I'm still hopeful Bacjetic will come back this season and impress.

I still think Elliot, Koumas and Jones will get sold also.

16 Aug 2026 10:21:55
Did anyone else see that kid with his guitar singing his New Leoni chant?

Spot on.

Quality tune that mate, the structure of it reminds a touch of Alisson's song, which I also love, but that never took off for some reason.

16 Aug 2026 05:41:56
There seems to be an increase in the number of English players being bought by European teams.

I wonder whether these are purely investment opportunities for these European teams because of the Premier League tax they can impose on top of the English player tax when they sell them back to a Premier League team in a couple of years.

Lloyd, Spence, Quansah, possibly Jones, just to name a few... All OK players, not brilliant, but all playing for the bigger European teams.

Agree1

16 Aug 2026 10:48:34
That's typically how it goes, lesser English players with Prem experience often end up in European leagues where they fare much better due to the higher physical demand, pace and intensity of the PL. Nothing new there.

16 Aug 2026 12:19:25
In part due to EPL teams having bloated squads, buying up kids etc, and then needing to get rid. They can get higher fees abroad than in the Championship.

Just following on from the stadium discussion on the rumours page, I just wanted to get a feel for what everyone's objections are to knocking down Anfield and rebuilding in the same location a la White Hart Lane... I know most are against moving it altogether.

I'm not from the area so I imagine my attachment to the stadium will differ from some and maybe it's personal to everyone... for example, I was quite upset when they got rid of the old tunnel because I thought that the fear factor of being squeezed down those stairs shoulder to shoulder with our players under the sign was integral to the Anfield experience.

So; is it the stadium itself and the fact we took it off 25s lot, is it the land that's sacred, the roads surrounding it and which ones, the silhouette/shape of the stadium?

And what would it take for you to accept change? Ignore money for a second - but if you told me that we were going to rebuild on the same site, all the memorials were going to be preserved, it was going to seat more people than Wembley and the Kop was going to become the biggest single tier stand in Europe then I would think it would be worth the sacrifice - and obviously the surrounding infrastructure will need to be improved or even rotate the new stadium 90 degrees etc.

{Ed025's Note - maybe just demolish all the streets in Anfield and put all the residents out on the streets in tents, im sure they would not mind if it means progress for the club.. :)

I'm not from the area, but Anfield is special. We should not even consider leaving as a fanbase. It's one of the last stadiums in the Premier League with soul and history.

I'd rather the club invests in the City itself to improve the infrastructure.

Buy a section of Stanley Park and then buy a plot of land outside the City and make a subsidised "park and ride". Sorted.

We should not even consider knocking Anfield down. No way.

16 Aug 2026 09:40:04
It was a disgrace what Spurs did. Lifelong family businesses forced to close down. Mystery fires when they refused. Look into it and then see if that's what you want from Liverpool.

16 Aug 2026 09:45:55
Over the years they've looked at everything, including changing the alignment of the pitch and stadium.

The simple constraint is that it's a residential area, so that just limits expansion of the footprint, mainly on two sides. One end there's a road / park which is another type of constraint, and at the other Kop end is a road and some business premises. These constraints would remain if the stadium was knocked down and rebuilt, although there could be compromises which enabled expansion on the green space for example.

From an engineering perspective, I think you could probably take the Kop backwards and upwards, and take the road underground. The costs would be huge, and there would be planning issues, but it's probably doable.

A general factor is the depressed valuations and economy in the area. It's hard to get regeneration to work there. There's limited cross subsidy opportunity; not many commercial businesses want to be there to enhance the match day offer, as outside of match days there isn't much going on. It's a deprived place.

The club could help change that dynamic, as City have done to a degree in East Manchester. It needs a new vision, and a local authority who can make things happen, and probably national funding to unlock it. They've proven with Everton that things can get done, so with the new ownership, who knows.

{Ed025's Note - good post that mate..

16 Aug 2026 11:11:36
The problem with Anfield isn't the stadium; it's the footprint (and logistics). There's just no room to expand, so even if you knock it down, you're spending hundreds of millions to rebuild a stadium in a location that faces the exact same limiting factors that have caused the issues we've been dealing with all this time. While you could technically do it, you'd be limiting the scale of the project with operational hurdles and unnecessarily increasing the cost.

If it happens, it's still a long way off, but I can't see the potential new owners wanting to deal with that headache for sentiments' sake. I would absolutely hate to see us leave Anfield, but if and when a new stadium is on the cards, there's an almost zero chance we won't relocate.

16 Aug 2026 11:46:15
Yea, I agree that we should do what we can to remain at Anfield for as long as possible, it's just an inevitability that this discussion will have to take place at some point... hopefully not for some time though.

I appreciate that there's a lot of issues with it in terms of practicality though, that's why I wanted to get a gauge on everyone's thoughts on an emotional/sentimental level... if the general consensus is that it's better for the club and community for it to relocate then I'll support it when that time finally arrives.

@1jj - I didn't know about that, I know we also got a lot of criticism over how we acquired houses over the years for multiple expansions and the Anfield Road closure...

hopefully the club can learn from our own and others' mistakes and do it better in the future.

@Overkill - I know with places like the Ricoh, they have hotels, a big shopping centre and business park. So whether something like that can be explored on a portion of Stanley Park to try and increase the overall commercial opportunities in the area and try to entice more residents in to the surrounding areas I don't know? It always surprises me how many empty homes there are when I get a chance to go to a match... it definitely seems like the councils/government have washed their hands of it though and expect the club to take action.

16 Aug 2026 14:31:26
The area was very close to getting a major injection of funding, probably back around the late 90's, which would have kick started full regeneration by the stadium. The council had been stung on some land deals in the city back then, and were risk averse. Long story short, the plug got pulled, and the funding environment changed.

A lot of the housing is now owned by housing associations as well as private landlords and developers, apparently there's high demand but rents are low.

As a result, a lot of the refurbishment gets kicked down the road, or developers are happy to wait for clearance and sale rather than investing. It's a sad state of affairs that the council and others should have dealt with decades ago.

I don't know how involved the club are in the area, but I'd imagine it's fairly limited, shame because they've actually got the leverage to get things done, whereas some of the others move at such a slow pace it's embarrassing.
