I think the interest in ANTONY gordon is geniune. he done few interviews lately and spoke v highly of liverpool where he could which v surpriseing coming from an ex everton player. He definetly a good player but i certainly wouldn't pay a record fee for him which has been mooted. other positions in team need strengthening before that imo.

Yeah ed1 I think that correct, i believe we released him due to him being too small. What u think of him as a player ed1? at the right fee and if diaz leaves yes, but i wouldn't be going too heavy money wise on him, would be my call.
{Ed001's Note - no thank you, he was released because he is not good enough and he still isn't. No skill, just pace. For me he is a Vardy-type player and that is where he should be playing. However to get the most out of a player like that, you need to play on the counter.}

There’s definitely a swathe of local fans that seem to be enamoured with him after the interview he did with Gary Neville.
I don’t see the fuss. Definitely not at the price it would take to get him out of Newcastle.

I like Gordon and I think he’d do well at Liverpool. But he’s not worth £100m and he’s not an upgrade on Gakpo.

He is an upgrade to Gakpo and Diaz for sure. Better pace than Gakpo and much better finisher than Diaz.

David Lynch has confirmed talks took place. Liverpool interested but Newcastle wanted Quansah as part ex so talks broke down. I wouldn't be surprised if a cash only deal happened.

We need an upgrade on the left wing and he was better than Diaz and Gakpo last season. But I’m not sure he takes us to title winning level. Musiala is the one to go for.

Gordon better than gakpo and Diaz ???there are no words…. Gordon is a handful running into space for sure, but not sure what else he offers when the team is not in transition, gakpo can hold the ball up, run at defenders, carry the ball from deep and has proven that he’s a smart footballer who combines well with others, gakpo scored 16 in 53 games, many off the bench, Gordon 12 in 48, most of them starting, so not sure why Gordon is considered a more impactful player?

From the sounds of the BBC report it was proposed by Newcastle and we pretty much said ‘no thanks’. Sounds like we want to keep Quansah and weren’t / aren’t actively looking to sign Gordon.

Quansah is a rare commodity, a big, tall, strong, relatively quick, English centre back, who is as comfortable on the ball as he’s dominant in the air. That lad has a big future here.

Interesting what Ed001 said about Vardy, I agree he should be playing there. I think he has pace and is a good finisher.
He’s probably a better finisher than we have at the club - not including our young guns.

Just don’t think there is much in it Ed025. End of the day your forwards have to score and create goals. That’s their job in the team. Gakpo had 22 goal involvements last season and Gordon had 23. Diaz had 18 so there is a bigger gap there to be fair in terms of output. They all made roughly 50 appearances. Gordon is the youngest at 23 years old so maybe he has a higher ceiling than Gakpo who is 25 years old. Diaz at 27 probably has the least scope for improvement.
So not saying Gakpo is better than Gordon. I like Gordon a lot and would be excited if we signed him. I just think there’s very little between them. Although I do think they could play together as both could alternate between LW and CF.

Would rather stick with gakpo, he has never had a run at left wing which is his best position than buy another left winger. the money could be used better elsewhere.

Perhaps club is preparing for the departure of another left winger, Diaz maybe? What else would trigger the club to go for Gordon? If it was iniated by Newcastle because of todays deadline it sounds still odd because if Liverpool do not need the player you would not enter any negotiation? Anyway absurd amounts being paid between teams who have problems with FFP deadline. Anderson to Forest for 35 mln, insane. So no more worries to sell Gordon I presume. As from tomorrow all Gordon stories will be over I guess.

I would agree that Gordon is a player that thrives in space, not sure he would have the same impact when people park the bus. If Diaz were to leave, and we signed a big money left winger, I’d be pissed if i were Gakpo. Clearly his best position and never really had a shot there, and technically he is the best of the lot.

If the approach for Quansah is true, then the more pertinent question would be if Gordon is so talented and has such a high ceiling, why are the Geordies so eager to see the back of him?
