For discussion, would anyone drop Van Dijk for tomorrow? Also, not saying tomorrow, but would you strip him of the captaincy after tomorrow’s game? Too late to do it now.
07 Apr 2026 20:16:28
Who for? Gomez and Konate have disaster written all over it. Captaincy wise, it's hard to say. If there is a new coach, then probably have a change looking to the future. VVD as a captain is a strange one, with a lot of opinions.
He is the most captained player for the Netherlands, so must be doing something right. He strikes me as a lead by example type, but the standards have started to slip somewhat.
07 Apr 2026 20:41:40
Ah, here. Drop Van Dijk? Don't be thinking things can't get worse, because they can.
07 Apr 2026 21:05:44
Too much beer, Red Jones.
07 Apr 2026 21:12:37
No, I would not drop VVD tomorrow, but I would drop him on Saturday v Fulham and the match after to give him a rest.
08 Apr 2026 02:04:35
More chance of Slot getting sacked than Virgil getting dropped.
08 Apr 2026 10:10:21
Not often I agree with Florian, but I do here. Our next two league games are Fulham & Everton, and dropping him for those would be disastrous, as it's not like we have quality in depth (there's no one in our under 23s capable of stepping up and Leone isn't anywhere near fit yet). We are more likely than not getting dumped out of the Champions League, so we have to prioritise the league as that is the bread & butter. Gomez & Konate don't exactly inspire confidence, particularly given that they'd have zero protection from midfield, and whoever is playing right side would likely have to put up with either Curtis Jones or Szoboszlai at right back. And any notion that "Gravenberch can play there" can and should be dismissed.

I'm on holiday so sitting on my phone watching the war and reading this site is my go to whilst soaking up some sunshine.
I have been reading comments which have gradually over the last few weeks slowly become less and less optimistic. There has always been someone clutching at straws saying we can do this or that! It seems the will of support is being gradually sucked out of all. Sitting waiting for news of Slots demise is like waiting for a terminally ill relative to pass away.
Harsh, I know, but similar feeling.
The club are doing themselves no favours. Their reluctance to act is so damaging to the future. Banking on a 5 place finish is negligent. As far as we know, only top 4 gain CL anyway. To 5 depends on how all English teams do in Europe.
This season could take away all of the work Klop did. Now that is a shame.
{Ed025's Note - have a nice holiday Chrisy..
07 Apr 2026 16:42:09
Cheers mate. I've found a place to watch the game tomorrow, but honestly, not looking forwards to it. Now I truly know what it feels like to be a blue nose lil. Xx
07 Apr 2026 17:16:49
Top 5 is guaranteed, all we need is a draw from all remaining games. The fact a title winning side is struggling to get Champions League is a disgrace.
07 Apr 2026 17:49:39
Keegans, do you mean top 5 is CL position? Or you think we will defo finish in the top 5?
I thought we only get 5 positions depending on how well the EPL teams do overall. I've no idea if it's decided we get 5 spots.
07 Apr 2026 17:39:04
I'm sitting on my watch so I can be on time, lad! Ed025 will get that
07 Apr 2026 20:25:33
Top 5 in the Prem now get UCL as it's all but guaranteed. So we have to get top 5.
08 Apr 2026 00:44:20
Yes, top 5 is 99.99% guaranteed, German teams would have to win every competition and all English clubs would have to lose every remaining game. That's not happening.
06 Apr 2026 15:51:01
I have some ITK info. Slot has been smoking his hair products and this has led to complete loss of sanity.
What's going on you beautiful lot. Last game I actually watched was the one before we smashed the toons, yes it's been that long.
No idea what goes on inside Slot's head! But he's blown a huge chance at one of the world's biggest clubs.
He's a Dutch maniac and needs sacking now this second 😂 He needed sacking a long time ago and I can't believe any player is still backing him! Or fan.
So what's the plan people? Surely he is gone.
I just couldn't put my eyes through watching anymore of whatever it is they are doing. Bring back Hodgson or Brenda.
Hate to say I told you so!
06 Apr 2026 16:28:50
This post was a journey, and I regret to tell you I got lost.
06 Apr 2026 20:35:18
Sadly not as much of a journey as this season, MK.
07 Apr 2026 12:01:50
Very true SM, very true. I wish I'd got lost on that journey, but I'm strapped in too tight. 9 more games until freedom.
06 Apr 2026 15:39:34
I wonder if a conversation had taken place regards squad pre season. We're trying to gdt best in class at young ages, going to take couple of windows. Maybe they feel they let slot down now. When transfer window closed I was disappointed. Could see clear as day (this isn't hind sight) we were a slower team going forward, 2 nr. 9s no pace our wide which helps Wirtz with little more space and even defensively teams no we can't counter or transition quick enough so set pieces they could push a little more. No pace kills us. In defence any weakness will be at least twice as bad as teams really do go after you now. Konate always going to be targeted. I thought Salah would have a had season (maybe different reasons) last year amazing. Numbers record breaking. But general play he didn't press, get back much, non existent but he works grab goal and assist.
I thought adding Wirtz, Eketeke and Isak would take alot off Salah leaving just general play. He was slowing up last year. That's just age.
Can't play 2 slow wingers like Maccca and Wirtz in same midfield.
Yes a paid out 480m ish but recouped 300 ish. Arsenal recoup 200m out of billion over last few years.
Meaning we lose players and others seem to build.
Doesn't excuse slot as his Motivational skills and way he sees the game with possession etc. controlling games is nonsense and I do think he needs to go. But just maybe they thought it would be a hard season maybe not struggle top 5 but would have its issues. Just get cbs who are good on th ball and not clumbsy!
Apologies, havnt really said anything of note buy more cathartic for me!
06 Apr 2026 14:28:20
We won’t get CL, then we will get the “budget has been severely cut” due to failure to land it!
This is going to get messy!
06 Apr 2026 16:30:55
It's still doable, Chelsea are a point behind, they have City and United next, and have to play us and Tottenham in their final 3 games. It's going to be very tough for them to get results.
Villa are 5 points ahead, and have the easiest run in, but have to play us and City in their last 2. Luckily enough, we're not the only ones in shocking form.
06 Apr 2026 18:39:14
Trouble is for us though, Chewy, at this stage of the season, when margins are so tight, every tiny advantage helps.
Chelsea putting 7 past Port Vale is a meaningful result in the way that they might just have played themselves into a bit of form and come out of a horrid run of results?
Villa also had a decent 3 points & performance last time out.
We've 1 point out of 9 in games we could & should have got at least 7 points, and nye on wrapped up 4th or 5th spot!
Unforgivable state of affairs.
07 Apr 2026 10:01:58
Chelsea are worse than us. Putting a few past Port Vale doesn't change that.
07 Apr 2026 10:37:28
That's not my point, Florian, mate - a slight rise in confidence at this stage of the season could well be the difference in a point or two.
Not forgetting their far superior goal difference.
I think it will come down to a winner takes all game v them to get CL.
07 Apr 2026 11:27:46
Agreed, the Anfield game could be huge. Think if this weekend went perfectly and we beat Fulham and City done us a favour, a 4 point gap would be very difficult for Chelsea to make up.
06 Apr 2026 14:02:54
So slot putting all on Salah again. Honestly the guy is a unbelievable.
Starts saying he didn't want to point at any individuals and then points out that Salah has had loads of chances this season and missed them, which may be true but the whole team has underperformed hugely, their fitness levels are shocking and their confidence is shot, I would call out the coaching staff for those issues
"No, I wouldn't like to point out to individuals after a loss like this or after a disappointing season that we are having. I think it's about the team. Mo [Salah] had a few good chances, which is always important because you want players like him to get chances, and I think that's what in general we did this season, getting him or other players in good positions. Unfortunately, if you look at not only today but the whole season, the amount of goals we scored is far too low for the amount of chances we created, but definitely for the Liverpool standard. ".
06 Apr 2026 14:42:59
I'd be more concerned about the amount of goals we concede and the cheap way we go about it.
06 Apr 2026 15:34:21
He's right, our finishing has been diabolical all season across the whole team, we've created enough chances to win many more games than we have.
Not clinical in one box and clumsy in the other sums it up mostly, but losing belief and folding during games is the most worrying part of all this for me.
06 Apr 2026 13:52:33
I think everyone should watch Rory Jennings on YouTube, brilliant perspective on the match.
06 Apr 2026 15:24:05
Brilliant perspective and Rory Jennings being placed in the same sentence? My brain does not compute.
06 Apr 2026 16:03:46
Rory will always be "the bloke who said Haaland would be a flop" and "the lad who claimed nobody over the age of 12 should wear a football shirt and anybody who does is playing fancy dress". He's nothing more than a fool who loves the sound of his own voice, complete and utter twat.
07 Apr 2026 03:20:43
Give me a break, Rory who see's himself as a bit of a geezer / football hardman, the guy is candy.
06 Apr 2026 08:27:20
Just a theory but I reckon slot gets the PSG games as it’s all he’s ever gone on about.
Get smashed over two legs then Ciao.
With a slap from Fulham between for a classic 1-1. 94min equaliser by Harry Wilson after our defence is ripped to bits from an over the top ball.
06 Apr 2026 09:43:39
I don't even care about the Champions League anymore. I'm just too worried about the League for the sake of next season and the future. I've already accepted this season is a write-off.
06 Apr 2026 16:05:22
Agreed Babbity, the Champions League is just a distraction at this point. Better chance of winning the EuroMillions.
06 Apr 2026 07:26:39
Hi
So question. when we probably lose to PSG. and IF we go 1 nil down to Fulham on Saturday. not saying we lose to Fulham. but good chance we concede first.
At what point do the anfield masses start to turn. as in the Kop. Everyone looks to the top for inspiration. if it turns and sings for Gerrard. what do we think the reaction will be from players or the spread sheet suits.
I've been to anfield a fair few times. the worse football and form for one of my games was Houllier near the end. the fans still supported. and all they kept singing was to shoot when we were in a position to do so. The other time was benitez near the end. and the crowd sang attack attack attack. by no means is this toxic. but these are my only. memories of the anfield crowd showing its unhappiness towards the team.
I wasn't able to get tickets for any Hodgson or Rodgers games, but did a fair few Klopp games.
Any match goers know of groups that intend and plan on action on Saturday? Or will they likely wait to the following home game if we are eoit of CL and behind again.
Obviously local match going fans are very different than the travelling fans. they live in the city so are more in line of the mood and feeling of the city. not saying travelling fans are any less of fans.
06 Apr 2026 10:03:06
I don't know the answer to your question, but what I will say is those were very different eras.
I think fans were appreciative of where the club, players and finances were at the respective times, so they were a lot more patient with Houllier, Rafa and Rodgers.
I only went to one Hodgson game. Towards the end, fans were generally very vocal about wanting Hodgson out. There was graffiti near the stadium and I think there were chants for Kenny during games.
It did get a bit ugly.
The Slot situation is strange in comparison because he did win the League and we can still qualify for the Champions League. But he has much better players and had significantly more money to spend than any of the aforementioned managers.
I can't speak for everyone, but for me, he, Hughes and Edwards are blowing the position I've waited my entire life for the club to be in.
06 Apr 2026 10:27:20
Slot should have been sacked after either of the PSV or Forest games. It was obvious then there was a problem, and that problem has been allowed to persist & fester to the point that the season is over. All those who said he deserved a chance to put it right or that this was a "transition season", how's that working out?
06 Apr 2026 12:07:15
Very well put, Babbity. Couldn't agree more.
06 Apr 2026 12:30:42
Your last sentence says it all, Babbity, and it's unfortunately true. It's going to take immense work to rectify the entire situation within the club. FSG need to be very decisive with this come season end.
06 Apr 2026 16:13:37
Expecting a difficult game at the weekend, but a close one, so I don't think it will be a major turning point for supporters. Can't say the same for the next match. I expect a line to be drawn after the Everton game, if we don't get a result in the derby and then go on to struggle against Palace, I can see things at Anfield getting ugly very quickly.
06 Apr 2026 18:50:21
On current form Everton could well beat us. That would be that for any real supporters.
