With the players England have, Southgate has no excuses for not winning this tournament. Kane, Saka, Rice, Trent, Bellingham and Foden is outrageous talent. Add Stones, Eze, Palmer and Gordon, Mainoo to that quality and there should really be no other outcome.
France are a close second in terms of talent.
But, we all know what is more likely to happen.

If you're born in England, why wouldn't you want England to win? Don't get me wrong, I don't hang the St George flag out of the bedroom window and I'd rather Liverpool win a corner than England win the World Cup (joke), but I don't get this anti England sentiment.

Have to agree with Pelican. On paper, there is no doubt in my mind that England has the talent pool to win not only the European title but the World Cup too. The problem has always been, and still is, how that talent is managed. How it's utilized and having the winning approach that is required to win. The fact that proven winners like Eriksson and Capello could not make any sizable difference, makes me think there are perhaps "behind the scenes structural issues" that hamper any and all progress.

Rome1977. That's something that I've never fully understood too. Okay, I accept that "it's complicated" but still the numbers are too high for my understanding. I don't support the team of my original nationality (Indian) nor do I support the team of my adopted nationality (American) . I support Brazil, the Netherlands and any team that plays wonderful flowing football without anti-football tactics. But it still looks very strange to me to be English born and residing there and wishing the English team defeat. I would be curious to learn more about this and why?

There has been too many false dawns and high expectations in the past. Throw in a bunch of managers who play boring football regardless of the available talent and people stop caring.
With regards to Scousers, there is a very real anti-Royal anti establishment feeling which goes back generations. The fans at Wembley for the '65 Cup Final sang 'God save our Team' rather than the Queen and the National Anthem has regularly been booed at when Liverpool get to Finals.
And so LFC fans in general tend to be indifferent to the National team - even more so if one of their players gets injured on International duty.

I'm not losing sleep about the issue. When England play in friendlies I would rather watch Coronation Street, but when it comes to tournaments, I get behind England cus I'm English.

As a non English man I have to disagree aray, English are very overhyped and overrated because of premier league, defence and goalkeepers are very poor you have a few top players, Foden rice Bellingham Kanetrent then a few a level below, saka palmer. The rest are average to poor if you want to see good on paper check out Portugal or France’s squads.

Conolel has it pretty spot on, I am English and whilst it would be nice to see them win we have to be realistic, the manager is poor and he isn't going to win an arguement. Plus I also hate how overhyped we are, it's rediculous and happens every single tournament meanwhile they win bugger all yet all we hear is the 'it's coming home' nonsense, it does my head in.

Rome, the anti-English thing is defintley from Scousers. If you have ever heard "Scouse, not English", you would know. I don't follow England in any form, the monarchy. Well less said there better and don't get me started on the Tories ?. That is the mindset of a lot of us. There is countless other reasons too. Which all add to the fact we don't feel part of England like the rest do. Henece the lack of patriotism.

Fly Pelican Fly, despite what people keep telling themselves, we don't have the best squad either in the Euro's or that we have ever had.
Despite the quality we have in midfield and forward areas, we are average to poor in defence and keeper positions at the moment.
Regardless of how they faired in tournaments, we have had better squads with the likes of Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney etc, who had a defence with players like Ferdinand, Terry and Neville behind them.
France by the way, are not second to us either. Their squad is better than ours over all. Just look at the players through their entire squad.

Typical arrogance to think that the England team have all these great players and other countries don’t.
Of course what the likes of Spain, Italy, Germany, France and even Portugal do have is the knowledge of what it takes to win a major trophy. That’s Englands biggest issue, trying to get that monkey off their back.
Southgate has come closer than any manager in the last 60 years, yet some are more concerned about him wearing a waistcoat .

I was behind England all the way and I'll still be behind them but Gareth is a terrible manager. Stones hasn't played must recently by poor form and already picked up a injury. Shaw hasn't played since Feb and not fit yet and guaranteed to get injured again. maguire obviously not fit enough. Gallagher in midfield instead of taking maddison? Foden not adapted to England at all and leaving the party boy out also.
When trent came on the other night he was the best player whole game but with kyle walker nailed on for rb back he has to play in midfield next to Bellingham. Has whatmore had a better season than quansah really?
