Match day program for tomorrow nights game is superb, a very moving and poignant front cover from both clubs.

I really hope we put up a better show than citeh did tonight. They should be ashamed of themselves

Fair play to the citeh fans though, they sung their hearts out. our turn now!

We didn't put up much fight against Madrid at home last year.

04 May 2016 23:19:45
They were basically like us last Thursday, so yeah.

05 May 2016 07:52:12
I can see this argument from both sides to be honest as I'm an "out of towner". It could be argued to an extent that Season ticket holders forget and almost take for granted that every other week they have a seat with their name on it in the place which is like a Mecca to the rest of us. I might get over to see Liverpool once every couple of years and yes I do like to take a few pics as a momento of the occasion as it means a lot to me to be there but in saying all that I will also sing my heart out and leave the place with a sore throat!

Someone mentioned it above and I have to agree as it was the last game I've been to, my one and only experience of anfield on a European night was against ludogorets and it was as flat as a pancake atmosphere wise. A lot of that has to be put down to what happens on the pitch also as we were quite poor that night which didn't really give us much to shout about.

The truly great anfield nights happen when the crowd (season ticket holders or not) and the players together make magic happen. One without the other and its just not the same.

I know this site seems to hate on Clyne a fair bit. I like him though, he's been consistent throughout the season and I believe he's possibly making his 50 appearance tomorrow even though he only signed in the summer. That's some good going and Well done to the lad. Here's hoping for many more.

04 May 2016 19:32:54
To be honest he hasn't had a lot of competition for the spot. I was expecting great things from him at the start but he hasn't been that great for me.

04 May 2016 19:45:05
Hes hardly Javier Zanetti is he? He's made 50 appearances because no one else can play there. Flanagan has been injured/ loss of form and I don't think Klopp thinks the kids are ready just yet. The only positive about Clyne is he's never injured. He's excrement going forward and blunts our attack time 99.9% of the time and I'd be interested to see his assist stats. Defensively he's suspect also but not as much as the muppet on the left hand side (who incidentally does a hilarious Chris Kamara impression) . They both need chopping in the summer.

04 May 2016 19:45:28
He's probably been the most consistent part of our back 5 in terms of performances - it can't be easy for any player to stand out in a defence that mostly has Skrtel and Migs in it.

I look forward to having a couple of better players in defence next year, let's judge Clyne again then.

04 May 2016 20:03:32
I must admit I do not watch a lot of football unless it involves liverpool; I was happy with the signing of Clyne as I thought from the games I had seen he had done well at Southampton.

Having seen him play for us I do worry about his distribution going forward and some of his positional sense when defending.

I'd probably say that if we want to be in the champions league year in year out that he will need replacing - not this summer but maybe next; unless he can improve in these areas.

04 May 2016 20:07:06
I agree with your statement Johnnyr. The keeper and defenders needs to work as a unit then they all look better in my opinion.

04 May 2016 20:08:46
One thing is for sure, Southampton are not missing Clyne.

04 May 2016 20:22:43
Irish Rover and JohnyR with all due respect your both spouting anuadultarated bunkum! Your logic has no merit because on your basis no decent players would stand out if they played for crappy teams? If clyne was good we wouldn't concede much from the right hand side, we would score from the right hand side when he is attacking and people would call him good. I don't see none of that happening. That's the mark of a decent player that he can be good even when his team mates are poor. Where do you guys get your football knowledge from Katie Price?

04 May 2016 20:43:56
No disrespect to the lad, but Clyne is absolutely GARBAGE. Not good enough at the back; does not know how to defend and has a non existent touch, apart frow slowing down the atack and being woefull at passing, his only merit is pace; without it he would be playing who knows where.
He's another example of amateur scouting and splashing the cash for the sake of it. 12 million pounds. Oh my. Embarrasing. In the meantime Wisdown never got an oportunity even when he was promised so.
Hope Kloop sort out this kind of dealings for good.

04 May 2016 20:48:38
Clyne is not very good and playing 50 games this year will not change that. He has poor positioning, poor passing and he doesn`t close down crosses. And his final ball is just aweful. So again, enlighten us on how good he is having mentioned all his flaws?

04 May 2016 21:23:40
Here Brenda. Read my first response to the thread then i will post you that Katie Price book AND a pair of glasses. Buttercup!

04 May 2016 21:51:45
I think clyne is decent, but his end product isn't too great. One thing i will say is he doesn't have as much support as the left say. Couts is a constant outlet for moreno and is used for overlaps. With lallana often playing there is hardly ever takes up a space ahead of clyne for an overlap and open up some space. Milner has helped but in a attacking sense i guess it makes it a little harder. Defensively i think he's been okay some good moments some bad.

04 May 2016 21:52:22
To be fair every player is hated on here. Apart from Fowler. And Lucas for some reason. I quite like Clyne but then I think Lucas is a great lad but an average player so I don't fit in around here.

04 May 2016 22:32:27
Irish Rover I'm getting on in years and my eyesight is failing me buttercup! Let me give you a virtual Klopp hug as a way of an apology.

05 May 2016 00:04:10
All I'd like to add is the following.

Lovren was deemed not good enough on here by many. As was Firmino. As was Origi.

05 May 2016 02:32:59
Agree with you Pips, Clyne is a solid player who defends fine. Perhaps his crossing needs to improve but I'd rather him than Moreno as I prefer fullbacks to be defensively sound first and attacking second, I think Clyne is a significant step up over the problems we had before under GJ.

I also happen to agree on Lucas, best guy in the team but just like Allen, he happens to have good games and then bad depending on who we play and how the game runs. We need someone with more pace as a backup to Hendo/ Can. Lucas got exposed vs. King at CB, and then also gets exposed at CDM when facing teams playing on the counter. He only really looks great with an organised defence around him to cut down space and prevent his lack of pace being exposed. We can't afford that sort of weakness at DM against the best sides.

{Ed001's Note - I can't agree with either of those assessments. Clyne simply can't defend, he has zero positional sense or game intelligence. The only thing he does is not bomb forward too soon.

As for Lucas, that is a laughable assessment. People just never see his contribution, clearly you being one of them. You are basing your opinion on how he plays based on how the team plays. He has never only looked great with an organised defence around him at all, that is just nonsense. That is just someone not watching him play. You will never be a scout that is clear.}

05 May 2016 03:23:54
Funny how so many supporters thought it was great business getting him from Southampton for 12m at the time he was beginning to be a regular starter for England. I don't think the player is worse. It could be the whole back 5 unit is not as good as Southampton's at the time.

05 May 2016 10:02:43
I never wanted Clyne or Moreno. I wanted Trippier and Bertrand.

Trippier because although he isn't great defensively, he is excellent at crossing the ball and he was available for a lower price. He would have been a good back up for Flanagan when he returns and would've given us more this season than Clyne.

And Bertrand because in my opinion he is still the best left back in the league. Although that isn't much to shout about.

Just to add, a player getting picked for England is usually a good sign they aren't good enough. Welbeck, Oxlade, Walcott, Rooney, Young, Wilshere, Clyne and Jagielka are proof of that. I will never judge a player based on his international managers view of him. Lucas and Coutinho have never been rated by Brazil managers (or sponsors. )

Clyne can't defend or attack. Most modern full backs are only good at one or the other to be fair. But he's good at neither. To be fair Trippier hasn't stepped up his game at all as i thought he would, but Trippier would've at least given us something extra offensively even if he isn't any better defensively. Moreno is the same as Clyne though. Can't defend or attack. He may be better than Clyne at utilising his pace to beat a man but his decision making and end product is simply atrocious. His stats say he creates a lot of chances but if you watch the actual game, the chances he creates are of no real quality.

Our full back areas are up there with the goalkeeper as our weakest links. I'm not going to defend Clyne just because he's played 49 games. He and Moreno give away too many silly fouls in wide areas as well which doesn't help at all with his many set piece goals we concede.

All these excuses for Clyne are ridiculous. Doesn't he have like 10 yellow cards this season? He can't tackle, and he can't find a team mate with a pass. Those are basics for a defender. Being quick and aggressive does not make you premier league quality.

We probably dodged a bullet in Trippier, but choosing Moreno over Bertrand was a blunder of epic proportions. He will never be a good defender. His future lies as a left wing back or a left midfielder and maybe when he is more experienced his end product and decision making will improve. You can't coach defensive acumen though when there is absolutely no tactical awareness there to start with. You either have tactical awareness or you don't. We might as well coach Sturridge to be our left back. As a wise man once said, good full backs are rare nowadays. "Nobody grows up wanting to be a Gary Neville. You're either a failed centre back, or a failed winger". The full back position is a dying art and Moreno and Clyne are both failed wingers.

The only truly exceptional full back in world football under 25 is Alaba. I cannot name a single other young full back who can attack and defend to a world class level. The art was lost with the likes of Cafu, Zanetti, Lahm, Evra and Cole who are all either retired or well past their past now.

05 May 2016 10:59:18
I don't think that's always been the case Ed, just becoming increasingly so as Lucas's legs go. An organised Defence around him means he's fine, but a swift counterattack at pace and he's going to struggle more than Can for example.

I think he therefore manages to play better against the best sides, where we are forced to maintain a healthier balance between Defence and Attack, than say weaker sides that give us 70% of possession, our FBs are in their box and then look to ping us on the break. I'd pick him to play vs Real Madrid or Barcelona but oddly enough would play Stewart or Can against a Southampton or Stoke.

Until a year ago he could do it all, but watching the last few months I'm not so sure, or perhaps simply he just needs to get back to full fitness after injuries.

{Ed001's Note - we haven't had an organised defence in years, so this is just delusions based on your own bias. If you can't understand how your whole theory is crap on that basis alone, then you are wasting everyone's time.}

Apologies ed.

Think we need to get at them from the off on Thursday. Get the crowd going. If we get an early goal brilliant. If not need to not let it get us down and keep going.

04 May 2016 19:25:57
It'll be like Juventus 2005.

04 May 2016 19:50:22
an that Garcia goal.

04 May 2016 20:50:01
We have to tie the game before we can win it. Wi will not win the game by trying to score three games at a time. We attack them from the off but need to remember that be fore you win, you must first cancel out the deficit. if it goes to extra time and pens, so be it.

04 May 2016 23:09:13
And Sami's goal john. What a finish that was!

04 May 2016 23:51:35
Sami's goal indeed. What a strike!

04 May 2016 05:34:42
Hi Eds, just watched the Acadamy show - with lots on there about Sergi Canos. Just wondered if you have any insight or thoughts on him as a player? Is he deemed as a player that is believed can make it to and in the 1st team by the club? Do you think he's good enough?

He seems to really love the game and have a great attitude but I haven't seen much of him play.

Believable1 Unbelievable9

{Ed001's Note - he was left at Brentford as it was felt to be a good loan for him and helping to develop him as a player. He is still very raw though, hit and miss, with more weaknesses than strengths to his game. He is a long way away from being ready for us right now, but he needs a chance in the first team to become ready. Opinion is divided on him, he has the potential, he needs to polish his game a lot and work on his game intelligence.}

04 May 2016 05:46:32
Thanks Eds, appreciate your thoughts on him. We have so many talented youngsters don't we - just so hard to make that step up consistently.

{Ed001's Note - it is made more difficult than it should be due to an overly large squad. I expect that to be trimmed down in the summer, opening up the path for youngsters to progress.}

04 May 2016 09:19:42
The Academy is cutting its numbers also Ed. Only the best lads will be kept, or recruited with the emphasis on Quality.

{Ed001's Note - it has already cut its numbers.}

04 May 2016 12:17:09
I was chatting to one of the Brentford players on Saturday night about Canos. He said that the lad has bags of ability and is a really nice guy with it, and would love to see him back at Brentford next season (although doesn't think he will be) . From what I've seen of him and heard from Brentford fans, Eds summary sounds about right the ablity is there, but will it be enough to break through?

04 May 2016 05:31:57
Hi fellow Aussie LFC fans. Just a heads up that Optus have released the pricing and viewing method for EPL games next season. It will no longer be on a Foxtel/ Austar platform - it will all be streaming. Google it to get more details.

Believable2 Unbelievable10

04 May 2016 06:33:37
Yeah i'm shatterd. May not be able to see my team in the epl at all next season. Well that's the new tv deal kicking in!

04 May 2016 06:39:57
It is an unappealing decision from Optus by the look of things. Needing to be either a mobile or broadband customer of Optus to then add $15 per month to get EPL access or free if you already spend over $90 a month with them.

A lot to like about Optus, however they have low speeds and poor infrastructure compared to competitors and also suffer drop outs. Oh dear I don't know if this will attract people or people will get a VPN and stream directly from Sky.

04 May 2016 06:52:07
Bugger, I can only get Telstra broadband at my place and have been using the Foxtel EPL on demand service for about $90 a season. Got fed up trying to livestream via various outlets. May have to look at a mobile option.

04 May 2016 07:55:12
Foxtel coverage since they lost the rights is appalling they put it all on fox 4 and 5 and I had standard so couldn't even watch it at home and that's why I got it on, so I welcome optus, foxtel no longer needed for me.

04 May 2016 08:46:53
There are "other" options you know chaps.

04 May 2016 08:58:45
cant you all just download kodi and watch everything?

04 May 2016 10:17:53
Kodi? What's that's
I can't believe Foxtel let it go . I will have to get out of my contract now and sign upto Optus who I'm lead to believe have a terrible infustructure and reception from the dark ages . The internet is bad on Telstra, God knows how bad it will be on Optus .

{Ed001's Note - have a look at our Android site, there is a lad on there who gives instructions on how to sort out Kodi.}

04 May 2016 14:48:50
or you can use the site i use just google eplsite and you will get your games on there.

04 May 2016 16:31:06
In regards to kodi and it's addons. Sportsmania/ sportsnationhd is a must. It is a premium addon. It cost me £26 for 6 months subscription and the streams are flawless. It has all sky sports, bt sports, nbcsn, being, Fox and loads more. Almost everything is covered.
