If there was one company I didn't won't near Liverpool fc it's a betting agency, sorry but gambling agency saying it's great to be part of the Liverpool family just doesn't work for me, never will.

liverpoolkiwi

{Ed002's Note - You are right Liverpoolkiwi it is not something which I see as a good thing either. In a number of countries betting concerns like tobacco and alcohol companies cannot sponsor sports teams - but I fear you will soon see lots of nifty offers to entice fans on the club web site.}

1.) 02 Jul 2016 09:28:26
So betting to go with dunkin donuts.
So we're going to be skint, fat and have type 2 diabetes. Lol.

2.) 02 Jul 2016 09:48:43
Haha classic.

3.) 02 Jul 2016 09:53:43
Yep totally agree!

Some posters have highlighted that the hierarchy at this club only care about money, I never took much notice of it but after this i believe it so. And to add insult to injury they don't care about the image of the club!

Unacceptable! (truly)

Think its petition time or boycott the training clobber!?

4.) 02 Jul 2016 10:10:33
Unfortunately it is a sign of the times that we are living in. We all want the best players at our club and the money has to come from somewhere. Personally I hate McDonald's but they provide money for every event. Not ideal but it's the way of the world. Who liked carlsberg when they sponsored us? I wouldn't buy any product from sharp when they sponsored man united. We will never all get what we want but we want the money. As I say, not ideal but I can live with it.

5.) 02 Jul 2016 10:25:43
Agree totally. What's the need for it? It just shows that the importance of image is being placed below the importance of a few extra bucks. Bad decision, whichever way you look at it.

6.) 02 Jul 2016 10:30:33
Get with the times lads. Betting is major part of modern football, like it or not.

You either progress with the game, or get left behind. We got commercially deserted in the nineties and noughties. Finally we have owners who are progressive and trying to build sustained success, and they get stick for agreeing to advertise a betting company?

You can't be serious about a boycott? The Premier League have an official betting partner for Christ sakes. You going to boycott the premier league? Or Sly Sports for having their own betting company? Or BBC for advertising betting before during and after every single Euros game this summer?

Honestly, some people are stuck in the stone ages. It's additional sponsorship and if that makes us even slightly more competitive on the pitch, I'm happy. I don't actually know anyone who follows football who hasn't at the very least stuck a £1 accumulator on every once in a while.

Get off your high horses. It's not going to subliminally convince all LFC fans to start gambling irresponsibly. It will probably just make a lot of people who already bet on the football reconsider which betting agency they should use. I had a lot more reservations over a bank being plastered across the front of the main kit. If anyone has shafted the working man, it is banks. Not betting. Nobody batted an eyelid then though. Whilst I was skeptical initially, I didn't care one bit when I found out the magnitude of the sponsorship deal.

Leicester City gave out thousands of free bottles of beer last season. Is that not also supporting a bad habit? Did anybody care? No, you all just moaned about how much more of a community they are.

Hypocrisy of the highest level. I actually cannot believe this thread. It is yet another example of how the modern world has gone mad with 'political correctness'.

7.) 02 Jul 2016 11:14:59
Dear mr MK

Thanks for that lovely essay! It was an interesting read.
Just a couple of points the fact that the premier league bbc and sly sports have connections with a betting company does not mean we should (really they shouldn't either) but i don't care about them I'm Liverpool FC! there's a word for people who follow and that word is Sheep!

Where does this bet victor money come from?

The suffering of people gambling addiction i mean people are pi$$in away their mortgage payments or takin food from their kids mouths because they going to win this time! Getting into serious debt and in many cases are driven to the extreme and hurt themselves or others.

So basically what your post should have said was f--k it we getting paid!

8.) 02 Jul 2016 11:42:31
When I saw bet victor on the front of the training kit I thought it was some type of joke. I can't stand these betting companies, victimising football fans every chance they get. Look if you have a few quid and want to have a bet now and again feel free, it's a dirty habit but that's on you. But there's a lot of people who have suffered through gambling addictions and lost families and even their own life who I have known personally, all through the stupidity of betting. I don't want Liverpool advertising or promoting something that can alienate a lot of people, even through religion.

Doesn't matter what era we are in MK, betting companies are filth and should not be promoted by a club of Liverpool stature. Just because you like betting doesn't make it right.

9.) 02 Jul 2016 12:06:59
Mmmmm I'm unsure on this one but just because we are sponsored by a gambling company doesn't mean people are going to go out and bet. People who like a bet will still bet, the sun will still shine etc. It's just another investment into the club and it may be questionable but I wouldn't spend too long worrying about it. Just concentrate on your team and if they are going to win things. People are far to quick to want to get involved in this type of debate and plan boycotts etc. just stick to the football side of stuff. Just my opinion but I don't care who sponsors us to be honest just as long as we are successful on the pitch.

{Ed002's Note - Football fans are very easily led as we know. The temptation should not be put to them - and no doubt there will be lots of "attactive offers" for the Liverpool supporters. I would caution against it.}

10.) 02 Jul 2016 12:11:17
Kman92 you are spot on. These betting companies are filth and make money out of the misery of their victims. I don't want to see either 'pay day' loans or betting companies smeared across our glorious shirts. They will be no purchases in this household of any gear bearing those companies names or logos. It is nothing but an attempt to groom young, impressionable people into wasting their money with these firms. It is a disgrace that the club hierarchy think so little of the fans. They need to get a grip and understand these concerns. It is not a trivial gripe and I don't care if it's all around us, sanctioned by immoral government, Liverpool are better than that.

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with the Government and Liverpool are not "better than that" because it is exactly what the club has done.}

11.) 02 Jul 2016 12:40:57
The joys of "the business" taking over the football.

12.) 02 Jul 2016 13:10:05
You having betting stands in the ground. The ground does a lottery on match days.
Personally it comes down to choice and being in control. I have a online betting account. It's not the newly associated one to Liverpool and I won't be changing to be in support of Liverpool FC's choice. Does that in turn make me a bad supporter?
When I go to a match. If I choose to have a beer in the city and not at Anfield. Am I depriving the club and the sponsors of revenue?
Betting can be a vicious thing. So can drinking. Shall we take that away too?

13.) 02 Jul 2016 14:34:50
football is nothing more than a business and business is all about money, sadly morals don't come in to it, the game sold its soul to the devil as soon as the premier league was created, we have gone to far down the road to do anything about it, they have us hooked in and they have no intention of letting us go, hence the fact all sort of companies want a piece of the action, be it betting companies or pay day loan firms, personally Liverpool's sponsors have no affect on me, I didn't drink carlesberg when they sponsored us for example but I do take fellow posters points about betting firms especially with a lot of it being online and as we know gambling addiction is a real problem in society, don't expect the club to reverse this decision because money talks sadly.

14.) 02 Jul 2016 16:01:04
If people have a problem and can't bet responsibly (or better yet avoid betting all together) that really isn't the club's problem. In the same way it isn't the club's problem if some fans can't drink responsibly (recent events in France would suggest many can't! )

No one cared when we had a beer sponsoring us.

15.) 02 Jul 2016 16:12:28
It's sad, Ed002, especially in countries like Australia. A lot of rugby league teams in Australia have and still do rely on revenue from problem gamblers playing poker machines. How they acquire that revenue is another story - but sad.

Watched the west ham fans sign off on there stadium with loads of respect, and it reminds you as a life long Liverpool supporter just so many fantastic moments of pure emotion at anfeild, I look forward to the new chapter in anfeild history next season, only from my tv until the kids are old enough to travel there with me.

1.) 11 May 2016 04:12:55
For a section of them, 'respect' came in the form of throwing bottles at the opposition's bus. I understand the point you are making but I reckon we should set the bar a bit higher than trying to emulate WHU fans.

2.) 11 May 2016 06:37:00
Definitely and then the owner blaming it on United for being late. I know our owner has said a few stupid but even he wouldn't say that.

3.) 11 May 2016 07:32:06
I didn't know that and I understand mate and I certainly don't like that stuff from fans, and of course Liverpool has always had its own identity. cheers annie.

{Ed001's Note - Sullivan also said it was utter nonsense and there would be no damage to the bus, while a couple of people were being injured by the thugs.}

4.) 11 May 2016 08:05:02
Cheers ed I guess that means I'll have to donate Australia dollars to your cause for condoning bad behaviour . great to see fans chipping in for you.

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure it accepts monopoly money mate!}
