I think we all need some perspective here. I think the reason we are all up in arms is that we had finally seen off Chelsea and City for a player then went and tripped on the last hurdle and fell flat on our face. In reality he is a good player but not worth anything like the money that was being banded about. There are other players out there that we can and will get instead of VVD. Just take a chill pill and wait to see what happens.

The point is that we've messed up our attempt at going for a top class target and will inevitably sign players who simply aren't good enough and we'll have another season of failure. All because we acted like complete cretins. Can you see any top players wanting to come? We look like complete clowns. A laughing stock. We'll end up with the likes of Keane or Gibson and Grey or Andros Townsend, it's that bad.

2.) 08 Jun 2017 01:15:21
He wasnt top class nor a target.

Mendy hasn't gone anywhere. Nor has salah or mendy. Lacazette is also still knocking about.

Lets get to the morning and see what's going to happen.

3.) 08 Jun 2017 01:34:19
Failure? Given the money we have compared to citeh man utd and chelski. You consider a top 4 place and champions league a failure. Think you a sense of prospective my friend. You were probably one of the people on here ragging off the signing of mane last year.

Don't worry about all this VVD nonsense I have it on good authority that Klopp asked permission to take him to the cinema last month and it was granted. Southampton are just annoyed that they sat on the back row and ended up back at Klopp's gaff afterwards 👍.

1.) 06 Jun 2017 16:53:52
Well they went for Baywatch premiere.

2.) 06 Jun 2017 18:02:17
Perhaps we'll see Klopp running down the touch line in red shorts bay watch style when VVD scores the winner at OT this season! ;-)

3.) 06 Jun 2017 17:47:56
Or was it Wonder Woman?

05 Jun 2017 17:13:43
If these two signings (salah and VVD) do come off it's the first time for a long time that we have gone up against the likes of Chelsea and City and actually came out on top when signing a player. Why is that? Is it because Ayre isn't handling negotiations? Is it the Klopp factor? Is it that we can just afford more now with the TV money? Just curious as I was sure VVD would end up elsewhere! (and he still might)

Klopp, CL and we also look like a side that's stable, playing good football and has the ability to get even better.

If we get even just 3 top players in at LW, CB and LB (looking likely for at least 2 of those) and hopefully Sturridge stays fit, we will be very tough to beat next year.

Feels like we have the momentum at the moment. Hopefully we have a great season next up and we keep moving forward.

2.) 05 Jun 2017 17:43:21
Beating them to VVD certainly shows intent, that we can compete with the big boys, that we are looking to go one step forward forward and not sell our best players and move one step back.

3.) 05 Jun 2017 17:47:04
CL football plays a huge part in it.

4.) 05 Jun 2017 17:51:19
Coz we believe we will manage our books accordingly. FSG would like to give it one more go at the title, hence all the backing to Klopp.

5.) 05 Jun 2017 17:53:40
Better to sign one or two for that price rather than 10.

Said it for years how can you commit 60 mil on a ton of plahers but can't work jt for one. Shows you can.

6.) 05 Jun 2017 18:05:23
Apparently Klopp has been a big part of negotiations and in contact with vvd and his representatives.

7.) 05 Jun 2017 18:34:31
Because we're massively over paying and the player wants to come.
Van dijk is a great improvement on lovren. 60 million and 200k wages if true is disgraceful for a central defender. However football has gone in a direction that Is madness.

8.) 05 Jun 2017 19:07:56
Liverpool won't be Paying anyone 200 k anytime soon!

9.) 05 Jun 2017 19:13:39
If he wanted 200k he would be off to city.

Think he knows if he plays his cards right, its madrid next. they'll need a new cb in about 4 years.

He wants to play for klopp thenim goibg for 135/ 50k

Nice signing on fee though.

In reply to the OP, this is the imaginary conversation that took place and resulted in VVD, Salah and others being pursued and signed:

FSG (Werner) : Congratulations Jurgen. Job well done. We're so happy you're with us. But you know something, don't you? We finished fourth, and that's great, but I hope next year we'll aim a bit higher? Maybe win the League? I want to see it in my lifetime, and not for my grandkids to see it. We've spent enough money for it so far, you know.

Klopp: Thank you, thank you. There is nothing special that happened. The boys worked hard all season long. We had injuries in January. February we were recovering from injuries, and we went back on track in March. Of course, if I had more players of good quality then maybe things could have been different. We had the weakest team in the top 6, but we finished fourth. Look at how much Mourinho spent and we still finished above them. And if Phil had not gotten injured and Sadio had not gone to Africa, we could have finished above Guardiola also.

FSG: Okay Jurgen. Tell me what you need. Tell me what you need to win the League and make it at least to the semis in the UCL?

Klopp: I need better defenders, I want to strengthen the midfield and I need a striker to bang in the goals, Daniel is not dependable to be ready to play every game. I hear VVD wants to join us. And Keita is the perfect player for us.

FSG: VVD? 70 Million? Are you crazy? OMG. This is Comolli and Andy Carroll happening all over again! Jurgen you're not smoking funny stuff are you?

Klopp: No. Actually I'm very confident. We have a great group of players. We are just missing 3 or 4 really good players and the young players are developing nicely. It's just in this moment, I feel that if you want to win the EPL title and the UCL, you have to be ready to spend like the others.

FSG: Okay Jurgen. We'll give you what you want. I hope you know what you're doing.

Klopp: Thank you. In this moment, I am very confident. Liverpool deserves to be winning titles. I am confident we can do it.

{Ed025's Note - i enjoyed that ra..

Just read on Sly that Man Utd are the most valued club in Europe. I remember before the premier league we were bigger or at least on par with them. The chronic miss management of this club over the years has been criminal. Hopefully we are going some way to catching up these days but we have a long way to go.

I don't know to what extent this is true, but I also read recently that if you go by certain parametrics (number of twitter followers, number of facebook followers), Liverpool is still the most followed club in the UK. It's probably not a coincidence that LFC is the most televised EPL team, the past 2-3 years. It changes drastically when you take global numbers into consideration, where we fall to 4th or 5th (among EPL teams) . Proof that the past 20 years or so, owners and management have been twiddling their thumbs, while the other teams (ManU, ManC, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs) have been busy building a global fan base. Mismanagement is a very mild word for what was done. There are some signs that corrective action is finally being taken (continuing stadium expansions, commercial deals with foreign regional brands etc etc), but it's a very long road ahead. It's a pity that South American football championships are ongoing during the summer, otherwise I'd love for us to have friendlies there and develop a stronger fan base (instead of Australia- a country of only 23 Million people- where we are already the most popular) . For example, Chelsea is the most popular EPL club in Brazil- population 290 Million- and this goes a long way when they're recruiting players.

Just watching the play off final. Any chance of a sneaky bid for Ilori eds? I think he's what we've been missing for years! 😉.

Pipsscreamer

1.) 29 May 2017 16:57:50
Cheeky bid?

Does that mean that everything we saw before was a smokescreen?

2.) 29 May 2017 17:37:07
Exactly! Not to be mistaken with the fella we had at Liverpool. That was Ilori's 3rd cousin's dog's vet's brother Llori.

3.) 29 May 2017 17:58:43
Well done Danny Ward.

Crucial save again, just at the time where they needed it.

Having Huddersfield in the prem can only be a good thing for us. Hopefully with Klopp and Wagner's relationship it could lead to some successful top quality loan spells for some of our guys. Also some of their play is easy on the eye.

Look forward to seeing them more in the Prem next year. Fingers crossed they stick with Danny Ward and we loan him for another year, would be another great loan for him/ us.

4.) 29 May 2017 18:21:42
The rules may have changed, but I think you can only have one long-term loan from a team in the same division as you (in the EPL anyway), and Danny Ward, having been there for a year, seems the obvious choice. although I think it'll be a permanent transfer rather than a loan.

5.) 29 May 2017 22:18:30
Well we xouls agree some favorable transfers will biy backs.

Say 1 mil for ojo. 3 mil buy back.

Its a way of getring around loans. Not sure its completely legal haha.

I'm sure there is a reason Max they wouldn't just spend more for the hell of it. Unfortunately we are not privy to all aspects of our transfer dealings not even the eds are so I think we should just accept it's a no go and support whoever comes in.

I agree with Port on this although maybe wouldn't put it so harshly. There's no doubting his professionalism and I'm sure he's a great guy to have in and around the squad. My fear is if he stays there is a temptation to play him and he is simply not good enough and never has been.

I've said before I can still see this deal happening. Only time will tell it's a long time until the window closes. It will be a 'following a personal appeal from Virgil we have decided to let him make his dream move' kind of thing. Good PR for them and they've made their point about not taking crap from the big boys in the process.

I have a sneaky feeling the VVD deal could still go through. By apologising and distancing ourselves from the player we have given everyone time to calm down. It's a long time to the end of the transfer window and if he still wants the move come August I could see them backing down and a deal being done. Money talks. Time will tell I suppose.

The evidence against us is not what some on here would have you believe. We upset Southampton, we apologised. That's the end of it. They can't prove we did anything wrong which is why there no investigation and no ban. Out of respect we have pulled out of a deal because we had upset the other party, touch of class from Liverpool if you ask me. (Not saying that is right just trying to look at it from a different perspective. Everyone seems so quick to condem without knowing anything about it)

Why would they say that Max? Just crawl back under your rock until September and leave the complicated stuff to the big boys.
