I can just see the Alonso situation playing out if he replaces Slot, by starting off amazing and ultimately being just as terrible or worse than Slot with a few months. Then everyone coming on here and saying we should have stuck with Slot or pushed for Enrique.

Is anyone really that impressed with Alonso's actual management or is it just a case of anyone would be better than Slot? I think it's the latter and this has got be careful what you wish for written all over it.

Bob le ponge I think it is more to do with Alsonso's philosophy which is closer to Klopp than Slot, who seems to be so focused on control that he has blunted this team.

Damn, after seeing how Mbappe treated Xabi Alonso after the Barcelona match, I am not at all surprised he decided to leave.

After collecting their medals, Alonso called the player's over to do an applause/ arch for the Barcelona players. The Barcelona players had already done one for them, offering commiserations for the loss. Instead, Mbappe sees this, calls it 'stupid' and waves the players into the dressing room. The players all follow Mbappe and ignore Xabi Alonso, who has to walk back to the dressing room, clearly embarrassed as his authority had been challenged.

I know the media always hounded Mbappe for being unprofessional, a trouble maker behind the scenes at PSG, but I always thought that was PSG trying to take shots at him, and was all manufactured. But, watching this, it is appalling behaviour. Alonso is a Real Madrid legend, achieving some of the highest accolades you could ever hope for, in both club and country. And, Mbappe treats him like this.

People complain about how our club is run (And, rightly so) but at least we are not run like Madrid, or, have players as childish and pampered as Mbappe, etc.

Disgraceful of RM who clearly backed the players over the manager. They have not been doing too poorly on recent times so I was surprised to see that Alonso had left. Personally I'm not sure if it was a sacking or if Alonso had enough of them.

I suspect in the past a lot of this stuff played out in dressing rooms and on the training pitch. Now it seems in vogue to hover around on the pitch after every game, and there's been a few examples this season of dissent between coaches and players as a result. RM players are on another level though tbf, may as well not have a coach.

In fairness Mbappe was used to being the sporting director at PSG (according to rumour his contract allowed him to veto whoever the manager wanted to sign or select in the starting 11), so that monster was created a long time ago.

Romano saying this morning that Madrid hierarchy wanted to change his coaches but he said no. Good on him. Glad he's got away from that toxic club and hope he has a bright future. Hopefully here.

Faithworks Arne had not helped himself so fans were always wanting better and let's be honest he has not provided it this season and the fans have been asking for him to be change well before Alonso got sacked .

{Ed001's Note - depends on what metrics you use to evaluate them. It is a difficult comparison to make, both are still fairly early in their coaching career. Also, this season is the first real setback either have faced in their careers as coaches and it is only really those which give you a proper chance to judge them. It is how they both come back from them that will tell you what they are truly worth as a coach.}

Ed01, if it was up to you would you go all out for Alonso (either now or the summer) or would you sound out Enrique or someone else?

{Ed001's Note - if Enrique is interested, then it would be crazy not to go and get him. I probably wouldn't make any change now though, unless form dips again, better to wait until the summer while we are top four.}
