A fine - of almost any size - is almost pointless. Won't touch the sides.

Transfer ban - again, soft touch - especially given that City apparently had a heads up in the summer (why? ) and then went on another staggering spending spree.

Points deduction - would need to be big enough to ensure relegation but even then, they'll still be back the year after next and straight back to competing for the title.

For me, it has to be all titles won since the cheating began to be erased. City cannot be allowed to keep their place in the record books. Then I would like to see some collaboration between the FA and the Football League that keeps City out of the Premier League long enough that current players leave, they face years out of Europe, they lose all the tv revenue and prize money and can't easily rebuild. Then, if the current owners are still around after all that, they are scrutinised heavily in everything that they do.

A strong message will need to be sent. I can't see trophies being stripped, but I do think a massive fine, huge points deduction will be in order. Don't underestimate how much that would hurt a club with a very limited fan base (in comparison to actual big clubs like RM, Utd, LFC, Barca, BM, Arsenal etc.

Great statement from PL says it all. I'm ordering a bumper popcorn bag on a weekly basis.

When you can not fill your stadium it's obvious you don't earn those kinds of revenues.

The breach of Premier League regulations is staggering. However the real challenge for City will be explaining to their auditors and HMRC how their actions are not illegal. Those who lied to the independent panel must have also lied to the above and are therefore likely to face criminal charges. The aggressive rebuttal from the owners will open up further concerns.

If the owners have evidence to refute the charges why didn't they submit the evidence to the enquiry? Is it incompetence or corruption or both? Maybe City fans need to think about politely asking the owners to get out of their club. I remember when City was a proper club.

Seen a youtube short from the athletic, where they suggest a 25 point deduction for City, for the next 3 - 5 years (I think @10, a similar number to the years they cheating), effectively leaving them mid table for X years. leaving little else to play for.
Most other punishments punish someone else.

I think this is the right punishment Hoof. Mid table ( which is where city would be if the owners hasn't cheated) for 5 seasons. However I think the Premiership also need to subject the owners to a fit and proper persons assessment given the finding that they have lied continuously during the investigation.

I think clubs directly impacted financially by Cities cheating should take a group action against the owners and seek compensation. The figure of £900m is poetically attractive.

It's the Premier League they are in trouble with not the FA although theoretically the FA could claim compensation from
ManCity for cheating in the FA cup and taking prize money.

I believe they should be forced to sell as well. If Roman Abramovich could have been forced to sell then there is precedent for the PL to enforce it on City's owners too. Granted the circumstances were different but they have set the precedent that being forced to sell is a legitimate punishment and course of action.

The fit and proper test will never catch people who lie which is what City have been found guilty of. The Premier League could potentially bar the owners from running a club in the Premier League on the basis they have cheated the whole system then lied so cannot be seen as trustworthy or fit to run a club.

The owners, execs, and anybody else complicit should all be banned from the PL, no doubt, but the league will likely want to minimize bad press and probably issue penalties through points deductions, fines and a tranfer ban, I would be surprised if they went much further than that, but they should.

Titles should be stripped and awarded to runners-up, they should be relegated 2 divisions and start next season with a massive points deduction, they should be hit with a 5 year transfer ban, pay compensation to pretty uch every other team in the league and anybody involved—owners, excs, managers, players, they should all be banned from the league.

Following the announcement regarding City by the PL, what ramifications could it mean to participation in Europe?

If they are punished by the PL (which looks highly likely according to some) could they face further punishment from UEFA??

Thy can't face punishment by Uefa just because the PL found them guilty. In fact, Uefa found them guilty of similar offences in the past too but they couldn't take action because it was time-barred.

UEFA could bring further charges based on the findings of the PL investigation which has found City guilty of failing to cooperate. The implication being that UEFA did not have full disclosure of the evidence. However, it's seems that there are statutes of limitations in the UEFA rule book which may mean further charges are out of scope.

It was the statute of limitations that allowed Cities appeal to CAS. The lesson from the UEFA investigation is City eventually agreed to negotiate the punishment so watch this space.
