If you thought things couldn't get any worse, we'll carry on with slotball and what would hurt is if Alonso goes to Chelsea and they finish above us.
Slot saying we are underestimating what a transfer window could do. We've already done that.
16 May 2026 13:41:49
They might finish above us next season, but it might only be 8th.

Can I ask something of you fellow Reds?
BTW, we are unashamedly the best fans in the world (biased much lol)!
But, does sentiment hold us back in this modern era?
I in no way, shape or form want us to be a Real Madrid, Chelsea or Manc style club......but are we held back from being too loyal and kind to a*******s who quite obviously hold us back?
For 40 odd years I've witnessed when things are on the wane, we always give time and patience to hopefully see if things will get better, but when we realise the s*** has hit the fan, its too late and we always need a re-set or tansition which can see us fall back for a number or seasons.
This approach (nowsdays) does my breasticles in!!!
If you have taken the time to read my diatribe, thanks for reading.
Seriously frustrated rant over.

We've sacked managers before.

There is no way that the powers that be are seeing this as anywhere near acceptable but I’m still not convinced he goes anywhere until early part of next season?
The odds are Bournemouth & Brighton won’t get the results they need but I can picture next Sunday when Brighton turn over UTD for the 3 points they need and we lose in the 95th minute to a Henderson screamer after Kelleher saves a penalty from Szob and that’s after us being 2-0 up with 20 minutes to play!
He might get the heave ho then!?
16 May 2026 12:06:34
If Alonso joins Chelsea, then he obviously doesn't want to manage us now or in the future.
He has already turned us down once to stay in Germany.
Would be hard to take if he joins them.
16 May 2026 12:33:18
It's hardly like he turned us down this time. We've effed around and found out. Insisting that we are sticking with Slot, regardless of the fact it's evident he's not up to the job, has given him no option but to take employment elsewhere.
That said, if he manages Chelsea he can never ever manage us, I'm afraid, and additionally he's completely soiled his reputation or legacy forever, to which I can't see any way back from.

16 May 2026 12:41:50
All Alonso's fault. What do you want him to do, wait another season to see if we require his services?

16 May 2026 12:44:29
Some people just need to grow up.
Agree1
16 May 2026 12:57:27
If he has any ambition to manage us as he was a legend as a player, then he should wait and join another European club. Edwards and Hughes won't always be in charge.
He must know that managing Chelsea ends his chances of managing us.
Nothing to do with growing up, JB... just an opinion.

16 May 2026 12:58:39
If Alonso chooses to work for Chelsea, you've got to question his life choices to want to manage Madrid and then Chelsea, pure glutton for punishment that is.
Agree3
16 May 2026 13:16:02
Amazing how Alonso is catching the strays while Hughes and Edwards gaslight the fanbase through their media pals.
Clearly the myth of being the smartest people in the room is far more important than being the smartest people in the room. And they are happy to toxify the fanbase to protect the myth.
Agree3
16 May 2026 13:19:16
As of now Liverpool already have a manager, one I can't stand the sight of, but Slot is still in charge. Are we to expect Alonso to just sit around to wait and see if the job becomes available?
Agree3
16 May 2026 13:26:47
What should have happened is Slot should have been sacked last night immediately after the game, like Rodgers against Everton.
Then we should have hijacked Chelsea's move on Alonso. As it is, we've completely s*** the bed again.
Agree4
16 May 2026 13:32:49
I would have thought all along that if we were changing manager, it would have been well sorted behind the scenes by now and that it would be Xabi coming in. That tells me if Xabi joins Chelsea unopposed by us that Arne will not be sacked imo.
Agree0
16 May 2026 13:37:59
People here really expect Alonso to sit around doing nothing while waiting for Liverpool to offer him a job. He has no obligation whatsoever to wait for us while we mess around trying to figure out what we want to do.
Also, saying that if he manages Chelsea, he’ll never manage Liverpool is absurd. Rafa managed us and later went on to manage Chelsea and Everton too.
Agree3
16 May 2026 15:08:53
Garbage. There are managers other than Alonso available, so there's zero reason for not sacking Slot. I don't care if Alonso goes to Chelsea if we appoint Iraola.

This whole thing is beyond a joke now. Can't believe we've dropped so far in the space of 12 months. Unless someone within FSG actually takes control of this and removes Slot from his position either now or straight after the last game, we will end up like Utd and be in the mid table positions for the next few seasons. As a lot of posters on here do, I go to the game regularly and the atmosphere in the ground has been tense, bordering on toxic for weeks now. The last game of the season is usually a great atmosphere, regardless of our position, but this time I'm fearing it could be the opposite.
I hope not, because for me it will be all about giving Mo, Robbo, Ali? The great send off they deserve. Hopefully Slot, Hughes and Edwards' inadequacies won't mean this gets overlooked, as Mo, Robbo and Ali and any others who might wish to go deserve our full support on their last appearance for us. If Slot's got any sense, he'll go straight down the tunnel at full time, pack his bags and leave the true red heroes to accept the stadium's gratitude.
16 May 2026 11:39:13
I think it's time for us fans to accept our time of competing for leagues and Champions leagues has gone full circle... we are now in the wilderness like Utd and Chelsea, it comes in cycles, let's just hope it doesn't take as long to win a major trophy again.
16 May 2026 12:55:03
With Pep going and a few years without a major trophy, it looks like the City cycle could be coming to an end.
We've had very good teams and a good spread of success over the last decade, but haven't won back to back leagues since the Eighties; that was our cycle and decade.
Hard to call at the moment whether Arsenal will dominate the end of this decade, or whether City or even Utd could come back into contention.
We're probably as far away now as we have been for a while.
This summer is big. If Utd buy well again and Arsenal reinforce, we could be in the wilderness for a few years at least. If we buy a very good keeper, a right back, a centre mid and a right winger, we have a chance of competing. With all the talk of wingers, I'm not sure the recruitment team think our problems run as deep as the fans do.
Add a coaching team and the four new signings, we may stay in contention. Anything less, we drop further behind.

Utd need as much or more than us and don't have a 40 game season to look forward to next year. Arsenal on the other hand.

Obviously the manager situation needs resolving quick time, but has anyone noticed our issues in terms of squad management.
Of our 28-man squad, 11 have their contracts expiring in the next 12 months.
Alisson
Woodman
Konate
VVD
Gomez
Williams
Robertson
Ramsey
Endo
Jones
Salah
If they want to avoid Alisson, Jones, Elliott or Gomez leaving for nothing, they need to be either offered a new contract or moved on this summer.
That leaves us with
Mama
Davies
Leoni
Jaquet
Kerkez
Frimpong
Bradley
Grav
Macallister
Nyoni
Wirtz
Szob
Gakpo
Rio
Chiesa (doesn't play anyway)
Isak
Ekitike (injured till 2027)
We need about 6 new signings this summer and after last year's outlay, I have very little faith that FSG will have the stomach to do it. The way player fees are going, it's going to take another £300 mil plus window.
16 May 2026 13:00:20
The leadership set up is a shambles. The director of football is rumoured to be going two years into a three year contract, and the CEO of football is redundant as we don't have a multi club model. That leaves a coaching set up without a vision and direction, which was the whole point of not having a manager who chopped and changed direction every few years.
Contract management has been really poor, not helped ironically by winning the league last year and all of a sudden everyone wants £200k a week. We need to start again, get the off field stuff right first and add a few players and clear out a few others of the overhyped brigade.
Agree1
16 May 2026 13:45:05
A big window is needed though, Den82, no matter which manager is in the dugout, so they are gonna have to have the stomach for it. In attack alone I think we're gonna lose Chiesa and Salah (although Chiesa could literally be replaced by Morrison or Abe from the academy for all the good he does) and Ekitike until 2027.
So that leaves us with Isak, Gakpo and Rio until after Xmas. People forget we spent about £230m net last summer which in reality is the new norm now for these top teams in the Premier League.

Another dramatic, embarrassing defeat last night — getting battered 4-2 at Villa, and yet again Arne Slot comes out with the same delusional, twisted nonsense that proves he will never accept a single thing is his fault.
His comments are classic narcissist behaviour — completely unable to admit failure, just spin, excuses and shifting the blame:
"We conceded far too many goals, but we didn't score enough goals. But two away at Villa Park is not bad."
Not bad? We got absolutely destroyed, 4-2 down, out of the game completely — and he's trying to tell us scoring twice is a positive? Who talks like that after a hammering? 🤡
Then this gem:
"I don't think the players deserve what you're saying they were fully in the game and able to get a result. But after 3-1, we crumbled."
So according to him: Everyone played great, his tactics were perfect but for some mysterious reason they just crumbled all on their own. Nothing to do with him, nothing to do with his rigid, stale setup, nothing to do with his substitutions or lack of Plan B.
It's always someone else's fault, never his. Pure delusion.
They are systematically destroying everything that was built over the last few years — the identity, the style, the fight, the fear factor, everything. Gone. Replaced with this slow, laboured, predictable rubbish and a manager who lives in his own little bubble and thinks he's never wrong.
We were told by the majority of fans right from the start this wouldn't work. The warning signs were there every single week. Now look where we are — a season from hell, record low points, getting beaten easily, and the man in charge still doesn't have a clue what the problem is.
Mark my words — even if they keep him, next season will be no different. The excuses will keep coming, the results will keep being poor, and they'll still act like they didn't see it coming.
I honestly can only think that those at the top are completely blind — they are just not seeing or listening to the mass discontent from the fans at all.
16 May 2026 12:01:09
To be fair to Slot (and I just want him to go now), how many times have you heard any manager come out and say "yup, it's my fault, I f***d up, we deserved nothing from start to finish"? Every single manager spins a narrative after a game, whether it's overly positive or negative against his own team from outside factors.
It's only annoying now because it's us.
Agree2
16 May 2026 12:09:43
Nonsense, Rugby, a good manager will reflect on performances and results - admit where things went wrong and work to change. Slot does none of these things, he's turned us into a laughing stock.
Agree4
16 May 2026 12:14:43
He's going to lose us the youngsters as well. They're sitting on the bench watching that garbage, and still he doesn't even consider bringing any of them on. Who knows - any of them might just be the little gem that we need.
Perhaps they will be PL stars of the future, but with the way it is going, it won't be with Liverpool. I know that Slot has no respect for the players or the fans, but if he had any self-respect, he would resign without needing to be sacked.
Agree2
16 May 2026 13:46:47
I get the Slot-out sentiment, but he literally didn't say any of what you said.
Agree0
16 May 2026 14:04:51
Slot is not even 50 percent of the problem. The players have been awful for a while. Need 3-4 first teamers in. DM, wingers and midfieler then we'll finish top 3. Slot will stay and regroup
