I didn't really know much about Keegan as he's well before my time, but nobody has a bad word to say about him, which, given he was in the public eye for over 50 years, probably says a lot about the man he was!

How fitting our first game away to Newcastle. what a wonderful atmosphere and show of appreciation from a sold out st James it will be for the man.

KK was way before my time, I find it strange he won European player of the year twice (not whilst at Liverpool) won 3 leage titles with us yet he doesn't make most people's all time 11. or doesn't get mentioned as much as Barnes Kenny Gerrard souness and the 80s crowd. is this just a timing and age of the supporters who would remember him?

I'm not trying to be ignorant to his contributions but I am curious.

It's a fair question, Mr.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I suppose people of my age, who were kids in the 70s, he was our talisman. Never failed to perform on the biggest of games - 73 UEFA Cup final, 74 Cup semi, 74 Cup final, 76 away to Wolves, 76 UEFA Cup final, 77 European Cup final, he was all over these games & scored vital goals in most.
All-action player who never left an ounce on the pitch and a born winner.


Never had the natural skills of Kenny but he made up for all that in total effort, plus the fact he was vastly underrated as a finisher - pretty lethal in front of goal and just a fantastic team player.
I've no doubt he had a few poor games sprinkled in, but I can't remember seeing or hearing about any.
Again, for my age group Shanks loved him, which says everything!

Always remember him smacking Billy Bremner in the Charity Shield. Stood up for himself, right enough. Great player, great manager, great bloke.

My first ever hero, too, ArAy. He won us our first European Cup in Rome 1977.

Mine too - 1974 FA Cup final was the first game I remember watching on TV. I was gutted when he left us.

Rome, that run toward the penalty box with Berti "the bulldog" Vogts matching him step for step, until he had no choice but to foul him. This is forever burned into my memories.

The 1977 European Cup final was the only game I remember watching him play in. Bertie Vogts man-marked Keegan, but there was only one winner.
KK was also a bit of a celebrity at a time when footballers were much less in the limelight.


I followed him in Superstars, watched his Brut adverts with 'Enry Cooper, and I can't forget the record he made, Head Over Heels. 🙂

Keegan left Liverpool the year I was born, so I never saw him wear the red, unfortunately.

I did, however, grow up with my Dad and my Granddads all telling how great he really was.

RIP King Kev, you will be sorely missed. You put smiles on millions of people's faces.

Sad day with another great of the game passing on.

3 league titles with Liverpool and one with Hamburg.

I was coaching in Bristol and he was managing Fulham when they were drawn to play
Rovers in the cup.

Fulham came down and used the same training location as Filton College.

Hevspent as much time as he could talking to the Football Academy boys and stopping for photos etc.
