Ed 1, just curious on your thoughts regarding the right back position.
How important a position do you think it is?
I have have always felt that we would be better off playing a natural right back for example Ramsey, he may not be as experienced or be top quality, but rather play him than weaken the midfield by playing Dom at right back.
0
{Ed001's Note - it is important, but the centre of midfield is the most important, so you should leave Szobo where he is. I thought Liverpool learnt this lesson from the season we had a disaster until Klopp finally turned to playing Phillips and Williams at centre-back. Better to have not as good players in their natural position than to move your best players to somewhere they are not as good.}

Fully agree, thanks for the reply Ed, and thanks again for the hard work and effort you al put in.
Just wondered on your thoughts about djed spence for rbk I thought he was outstanding when at forest but spurs like to play him the left, who he be a good addition?

{Ed001's Note - no, he strolls about most of the time.}

Pedro Porro would be a decent shout, not cheap but don't think he has all that long left on his current contract.
Scalvini Atalanta 2028
Beraldo Psg 2028
Bastoni Inter 2028
Tapsoba Leverkusen 2028
Gvardiol City 2028
Cresswell Toulouse 2028
Ait Boudal Rennes 2028
Not saying they will come cheaper but many to look at. Personally Schlotterbeck or Bastoni replaces Virg. Really like Diomande of Sporting. Virgil, Gomez and Konate need replacing.

I saw Bastoni in 5 matches last year, he did not impress in any of them. In 2 x important matches for Italy vs Norway, he was rather bad. Is Bastoni really that good? For me he comes about as mediocre. And on top of that he'd had to deal with the PL tempo and press, and Liverpools style. I'm not convinced.

Leoni out for the season early on. Bradley out for the rest of the season. Gomez as fragile as a bag of crisps in a car crusher . Frimpong is injury prone. If right back and centre back cover is not brought in this window it is as negligent as it can get as regards to caretaking of the squad.
Guehi will be a City player by feburary 1st ( been saying that since the start of November, of course City will sign him it doesn't take any level of inside knowledge to see that coming) . Shocking terrible managmemt is going to cost the team dearly.
2
{Ed001's Note - Frimpong is not injury prone, he was rarely injured before joining us.}

11 Jan 2026 20:16:10
Why is it negligent? We got players who can cover. Do you think we can sign a top player as a stand in? Or would you like to just throw the injured players under a bus and replace them? With either option do you think a top player would come in and shine with the tactics we employ? We signed some great players last summer and they have been strangled by the way we play.
Don't hold your breath a rb or cb in shining armour is not going to happen.

Seriously, some people need to go learn what that phrase "injury-prone" actually means before using it as freely as they do.
I don't claim to know what that means BUT I do know that Frimpong picking up 2 hamstring injuries with no history of picking up muscular injuries of injuries of any type prior to joining us, does NOT make him injury-prone.

Givairo Read is 19 and a talented RB. Played every game for Feyenoord in his breakout season last year. This year he's missed a few games injured. 175cm but got a big physique. Transfermarkt value him at £21m and he has until 2029 on his contract. Probably going to take £20-25m to bring him in if Carra is right and we have to move now.

Transfermarkt always under value.
11 Jan 2026 14:34:36
Ed001 Is Bradley's injury not an acl if not what has he done.
Also Ed why do you think these types of injuries seem a lot more common now pitches are lot better than they used to be to be and the medical improvements are massive but this seems to be something that is happening more and more.
0
{Ed001's Note - they said it's not an ACL, not sure what it is. An MCL is less serious but would be enough to end his season, so it could be that.
A lot of the problem is the pitches, they are rock hard these days, when they were much softer in the past, unless frozen. The undersoil heating I believe is the main reason for that, or so I have been told anyway, which makes sense.}

Yan Diomande (Ivorian, 18, RW, Leipzig) has publicly declared his desire to play for Liverpool. Seems like this could be one to watch.
Cristos Tzolis (Greek, 23, LW, Club Brugge) has also name dropped Liverpool as one of the clubs he'd be interested in joining.
Nothing groundbreaking, just passing on that the players are both angling for moves to Liverpool.

Gvardiol did this before them and Im sure there are others, MKS. Sadly, doesn't mean we will sign them any of them at this point. Well, we can always dream, right?

I've seen tsolis play a few times over the last couple of years, and he's shown nothing to suggest he'd be a top-end EPL team player. Would take his greek compatriot Karetsas though, looks a hugely promising player.
Haven't seen diomande play, but that's a lot of wonga for an 18 year old.

11 Jan 2026 19:40:35
Diomande could be a real talent but a huge risk as Leipzig want a fee in the region of €100m. Not heard of the other guy Mk so will check him out. Could of been watched if we have been looking at Ordonoz at Brugge.

Good to see the FA Cup hasn't lost some of its magic, enjoyed a few decent matches this weekend which has been a welcome tonic to some premier league games of late, no VAR has been a welcome relief as well.
Hopefully we do the business tomorrow.
3
11 Jan 2026 18:59:20
Yeah, agreed Ernest, the games have flowed no VAR has been great.

11 Jan 2026 20:08:25
I enjoyed the man united fa cup game where they were dumped out of the cup by Brighton you could hear a pin drop at the end of the game. YNWA.
11 Jan 2026 18:35:54
Would like to see a strong team out tomorrow get the game done then bring on some youngsters to see it out. Next two games at home so travelling.
Maybe see Ramsay at RB and Chiesa to get a full 90. Both Ekitike and Endo not back until Burnley.
0
11 Jan 2026 18:42:11
Of the youngsters i would expect to see Rio, Lucky and Nyoni, of the older heads and fringe players, Chiesa, Robertson, Mamardashvili, Gomez (if fit) .
I think Wirtz will be rested due to the hamstring niggle and the rest picks itself.
1
11 Jan 2026 19:17:31
I agree, EM.

11 Jan 2026 19:29:52
Slot's already said he's not going to make the same mistake as last season. No wholesale changes. Thank gawd for that.
1
11 Jan 2026 21:13:02
Of course, Rome. The guy is under pressure to get wins so he would say that and needs to get them where he can.
That wasn't the case last season it is normal since the context has changed compared to that of last season.
11 Jan 2026 16:18:46
We've now 6 defenders for 4 position's and Gomez being one of those players I'd say we've 5.
I don't want to hear we've sobo or jones for rb! Have we learnt nothing from Klopp taking from Peter to pay Paul is carnage! Sobo is our best mid and jones is a mid his mind set doesn't change from mid to defender when he's RB and im not having a pop a Curtis I think he's had a good season!
My point being be badly need defensive players this window I know it's a poxy window but we might get out of jail if we get some in! If not I think it's wreckless from the club!

I can't argue there Jay.
1
11 Jan 2026 17:21:10
I agree Jay Dub Red, Reckless although a strong term is spot on.
I think it would be Negligent and will effectively end any chance of winning anything and possibly make us miss out on CL next season.
I don't understand the reasoning behind not going back to Palace. The only thing I can think is somehow Guehi has made it known. he won't be coming to Anfield, Hughes won't like failing twice. 🤷♂️.
2
11 Jan 2026 18:23:56
Doesn't really seem a priority for the either the manager or Hughes. Windows been open 11days now n nothing . I thought with 2 Cbs available n gomez covering either Rb/ CB we desperately needed one at least .
1
11 Jan 2026 19:37:17
"I don't want to hear we've sobo or jones for rb".
I have never wanted to hear that, all season and I think Slot was obsessed with this "Szobo at RB" discovery that it fried his mind to the point of playing him nbear every chance that presented itself, even with actual RB's available.
1
11 Jan 2026 20:00:45
Or maybe we just had no fit right fulls.
11 Jan 2026 15:59:27
Saying it months, i think Quentin Timber would be a good shout for the club. Bought by Slot for Feyenoords then record fee and made captain then by him. Out of contract in the summer so fee would be mimimal in January.
Dutch International and would replace Endo in the squad. Also as an allround midfielder, he has played DM a fair pamount of times so could even probably do a job at RB for us between now and May.
1
11 Jan 2026 16:23:15
Injury prone, no thank you. A decent player when fit though.
5
11 Jan 2026 16:25:35
Absolutely horrendous injury history. No thanks.
3
11 Jan 2026 16:36:34
Buying a CB who can cover RB, such as Joel Ordonez, the young CB from Ecuador, that we have long been linked with, makes more sense than buying a dedicated RB imo.
3
11 Jan 2026 16:43:49
I wonder if he has been looked at. We could in theory negotiate a pre contract now for a free transfer in the summer.
1
11 Jan 2026 17:06:47
Fair enough on tbe injuries has missed 32 out of the last 151 possible league games over the last four and a half seasons. Not terrible though either. His brother missed a whole year when he first went to the Ars and hasn't come back too bad. Just thought he would have been a smart choice.
0
11 Jan 2026 18:37:45
Florian I got shot down last year saying we should go for him as one year left and now 6months is a no brainer. Surely he can replace Endo.
0
11 Jan 2026 19:00:30
Timber might be ok at Forest.
He could make the bench for us, that's plane to see.
