Is it just me or does anyone else see TAA playing inverted is hampering Konate, every time he receives the ball he has a difficult pass to his right in trying to find Mo because TAA is hiding behind the pressing attacker. Also with the TAA, Mo is almost starting as a halfback to get the ball. It cost Konate tonight and it shouldn’t be that Trent is that good the entire system changes to get him into the team - JK is giving him free rein to play as he pleases.

Wow. We won 6-1 away from home, with TAA creating 2 goals and someone still found a way to apportion blame to him for the goal we conceded.

Jesus we win and it’s still negative, Trent is not hiding he’s being told to do that.

Didn't see the game but read some reports. Did we play some sort of 3-4-3 thing? A TAA floater?

Speaking of positioning. When Diaz came on, he played on the right.
I said before the turn of the year he’ll eventually replace Salah out on the right, we had a glimpse of that last night.

Konate got the ball stuck under his feet that has nothing to do with Trent!

Not sure it's a super negative post but the point is valid. The system would probably work better if hendo was more mobile like he was 2 season ago. However, there would be much more defensive solidity with a kante type dm who can get across or fill the space konate leaves.

In the few appearances Diaz has made for us on the right, he has looked ordinary. Worlds apart from how he plays on the left. But it could be down to inexperience in that role. I personally would prefer him on the left, because he has a great shot on him, and the angle is much more suitable cutting in from the left.

I wouldn't read too much into where Diaz played last night to be honest. He was put on when the game was safe to give him 10 minutes back on the pitch after more than 6 months out. I suspect he will be on the bench for at least our next couple of games as he acclimatises to match pace again.

For me though, I much prefer him on the left where he has caused havoc since he has been with us.

Konate did struggle at times but needs to improve on the ball. If we play this system so does Salah and he has to work harder to give him an option.

OP, Konate is just error prone. It had nothing to do with Trent. At 23 years old Konate is very young for a centre back and hopefully he can stay fit for long enough to iron out his weaknesses. Aside from the slip up he was great last night. He's just got to improve his concentration and decision making. Trying to pin anything on Trent (who was sensational by the way) is really poor.

Delvecs, the tactics played out as a 2-2-6 when we had the ball. For the first half an hour Salah was holding the width on the right with Robbo holding it on the left. It wasn't working but suddenly Hendo started holding the width on the right which pushed Salah infield and we ran riot after that. It was basically Virgil and Konate at the back to mop up with Trent and Fabinho screening them as a double pivot (two 6's) . Occasionally Trent and Hendo were switched with Trent out wide and Hendo deeper with Fab, but the clear tactic was to get Trent central as much as possible. Jones, Robbo and Hendo were then given the freedom to go and join the front 3 making it more like a front 6. This not only helped offensively but also gave us more impetus in terms of the press as we had more bodies forward. When we lost the ball, Trent and Robbo were sprinting back to make it a back 4 again and the shape reverted more to a 4-3-3 you'd expect to see. It worked very well but what i would say is Leeds offered absolutely nothing after our third goal. They were all over the place.

OP, I see your initial point as a whole actually BUT that is the risk of playing that way cos Konate is tasked with manning that whole right side of the defensive side out in space by himself for the most part. He is able to function there cos he played in a back 3 at Leipzig where his pace allows him to defend out wide in space.

As for the goal, chill out bro. You’re making 2 and 2 make 22 here. Konate got the ball stuck under his feet. It happens. Nothing to do with Trent or anything or anyone. Enjoy the win.

wow, didn't see this one coming. But I can add this one to my previous post that listed a bunch of mistakes that led to goals that had nothing to do with Trent, but he received all the blame for.

Yes, there will be some adapting. And in all seriousness, I don't think playing this kind of hybrid wingback is sustainable for Konate having to cover the flank all the time.

But, no, Konate's mistake was his alone. The position he was in can happen no matter what system is played. He was complacent was a second and it cost him and the team a goal.

I saw it the other way. Trent wouldn't be able to play that role if it wasn't for someone like Konate being so capable of covering like he did.

18 Apr 2023 08:49:46
Konate had enough time to play a pass he was just a bit cocky and didn’t expect them to press him so quickly. Nothing to do with Trent.

That being said a better team would’ve exploited the space left by Trent much better than Leeds did. I think it’s a tad too early to claim that this formation is the way forward.

Haters going to hate. Trent has a game drawing comparisons with De Bruyne and he is still getting dig out? Incredible.

Klopp picked the team and the tactics. We won 6-1 so let’s enjoy it and move on to the next game. 7 more wins would make the end of the season very interesting.

Honestly, I thought Konate along with Fabinho used Trent's presence as an excuse to not look for forward passes themselves.

For the first 30 minutes, the system was somewhat reminiscent of a late Rodgers era 343 with 4 or 5 players standing right on the opposition backline with little scope to make forward runs. Once we scored, we got it working well. But Leeds were dirt.

tl;dr - It was good, but I'm not sold on it yet. Need to see what happens when it's used against better teams.

To play like that you need to take risks and sometimes people will make mistakes. But also credit leeds players for forcing it. You can't be perfect in football no matter how hard you try!

I was more impressed how we reacted, small signs of a mentality shift. Last week from 2-0 down and at 2-1 yesterday the game could have gone either way. But we pulled ourselves together and took back control.

Plenty of false dawns this year but hopefully this isn't another.

I left my wallet on the train this morning. It wouldn't have happened if Trent wasn't playing in such an attacking role, it's all his fault!

The problem is its more than likely after a few games games of trent playing in this new position we will be found out and start loosing to mid to low position teams.
Either sell him or play him on the right of a 433.

MKS, Konate is error-prone? Sorry, I disagree. I don't think he is error-prone. He made a mistake and that can happen esp. if the game is coming to you easy as it was vs Leeds. Look at him vs Arsenal where the game was mad and NO mistakes there. I know he needs o improve his concentration levels regardless of the level of oppo. BUT to say he is error prone is a bit much.

As for pinning any mistake we make on Trent, I can understand rival fans and pundits doing that cos hating is their job and if NOBODY hates on you, you're no relevant so I welcome their hate for Trent from them. But the fact that LFC fans are resorting to such shameless and wretched tropes is beyond absolutely pathetic to me and I find that absolutely disgraceful and disgraceful.

Faithinworks, I saw that post you made when you listed Trent getting blamed for things that had NOTHING to do with him. You can indeed, add this one to it.
