Regardless of the result last night I'm just buzzing to be in the final. 7-6 was very kind on Roma when you consider our total dominance in the first leg, two dodgy pens for them and a freak own goal. The final is the day of my 20th birthday. Can't tell if that's a good omen or not! One things for sure, ill be awake for this one as I fell asleep in our 05 win (let me off I was only 6)

Still shocked we've made it to be honest.

Im still shocked Jerzy made that double save from Shevchenko at the end of extra time.

I'm not usually one for isolated stats but get a load of this one. Mignolet has now conceded the same amount of goals (23) as he has made saves (23) this season in the PL. That to me is just mind blowing, and also why Klopp has to change it fast.

Thomo121

1.) 23 Dec 2017 13:28:34
Problem is, I fear he won't change the GK selection and that worries me.

2.) 23 Dec 2017 14:26:11
Another stat. Migs has committed the most errors leading to goals in the PL since 2013. What such a hapless GK is still doing here, is a Dear Klopp question at this point.

3.) 23 Dec 2017 14:36:58
Them stats make for some depressing reading Gents. Even without them though I think everyone knows that Mignolet is nowhere near good enough to be a premier league keeper let alone ours if we have serious ambition.

4.) 23 Dec 2017 16:57:28
A concern that has always been in back of my mind since Klopp took over, he also persisted with Weidenfeller at dortmund, who is likewise a woeful keeper.

5.) 23 Dec 2017 17:11:49
That is my fear, Lfcfan. However, he brought in Karius to replace Migs. He did not do that w/ Weidenfeller at all. I hope he acts cos he will get himself sacked if he continues with Migs.

Not a huge amount to write home about but an away point in Europe isn't a bad one. It's a shame we dropped so deep at the end as we could easily have doubled are lead imo. Sakho showed why he should have been in the team weeks ago. I'm suprised BR has gone back to the 3-4-2-1 because there is virtually no options at times for the defenders and central midfielders when then they have the ball. Coutinho was shackled by the formation and couldn't get the ball enough. Well done to Rossiter, Chirivella and Brannagan who all looked tidy and not out of place. I really hope we don't go for 3 at the back against Norwich because in the PL I feel it's recipe for disaster. Luckily Bordueax didn't press us high enough otherwise we would have been in trouble.

I am still not impressed at all with BR's system(s). The first half was painful to watch. No penetration, no incisive movement or passes bar Sahko who had a very good game along with Rossiter, Chirivella and Couts. All we did was pass the ball around in our half. Only Couts tried to make things happen while the rest stood and watched. Bar his goal, Lallana was very poor, late to get into space and late to release the ball after mucking about before. We scored and was slightly better but all in all, not good enuff especially vs a piss average Bordeax team (I've been watching Ligue 1 since the 90's).

2.) 18 Sep 2015 07:45:34
This Bordeaux team will be happy to finish in the Top 10 in France, and are about the poorest Bordeaux team I have seen over the past 7-8 years or so since I started following French football. It is poor to see Rodgers set out to draw a game such as this when a little more adventure would have won us the game quite comfortably, even with all the kids in the team.

3.) 18 Sep 2015 08:38:17
Correct ag completely winable game but yet again compromised by poor tactics and decision making.

Lets be clear there was nothing wrong playing alternative players as that's why you have a squad. A few of the defensive players left out have also been awful so dropping them was a no brainer. However to go and play 5 in midfield looking for another bore draw just is not the lfc way.

Both the strikers were horribly isolated yet again, when they equalised we had no conviction to try and win the game. Evidenced by at the end a cross came into the box and only ings was in there with five statues outside the box looking at him.

Wheres the influence that the new coaches were supposed to bring, another bunch of bredonite yes men.

4.) 18 Sep 2015 08:40:40
Thought Lallana was much better than you just made out and his goal was excellent. I like seeing him and Couts work together and I'm glad he's fit again.

5.) 18 Sep 2015 18:04:55
Stolen point IMO. We were shocking in the first half and the second only had a few moments of quality. Sure, a lot of new players and a meaty situation, but I found there to be a lot of passengers. A lot. Sakho was, by far, the best of the Liverpudlian bunch. Couts was excellent, but caught in possession far too often for my taste - perhaps a function of the surrounding "quality."

I really want to like Ibe. I really want to believe (I sound a sorry version of the X-Files) that he's going to be better than Sterling and that he brings a lot of quality to the squad. All I see, though, is a player who consistently gets it completely wrong. Thus far, not a fan of his game.

As for Lallana, even a blind squirrel finds a nut. A moment of brilliance seems to have masked his ineptitude for a lot of the match. Again, I want to like him, I see flashes of a strong player, but he's never really done it for me. Hopefully get gets plenty more run-outs in Europe and Cup play to get fit so he can show me what he's made of.

Nice to see some youth out there, though I question both the occasion and the number. One could make the argument that BR is *trying* to get the sack with his playing style and choices. Sure, Europe is secondary to league, but would the team he fielded avoid the drop in the Prem?

As for the tactics. . *thunk*

I'm struggling to get excited about potential arrival of Kovacic, not because he isn't a quality player but it looks like that will spell the end of Lucas. I will be gutted if he leaves because he is a great professional and also a very good player. If Kovacic arrives then surely a midfielder will move on and the only person that could leave is Allen or Lucas. We all know how much BR loves "the welsh Xavi", Hendo is obviously staying as is Can and when you add milner to the mix I just don't think Lucas will be first choice in Rodgers eyes and understandably Lucas will want to go. Again i'm not slating Kovacic at all but I think we take it for granted how good we have it with Lucas. I can only name 2 DM's better than Lucas in the PL and that's Matic and Schneiderlin.

I could be wrong and maybe Lucas won't leave but Rodgers doesn't to realise his huge impact on our team and yet apparently Joe Allen is "outstanding". Whatever happens I am hugely grateful for the service Lucas has given us and I just hope it's for a little longer yet.

1.) 13 Jun 2015 22:06:12
He's a better player of he's type than any of our midfield . Aggression with and without the ball . Has a pass and can run past players!! I find it hard to not be positive about him .

2.) 13 Jun 2015 22:08:46
I think kovacic is a more forward player, so possibly not a direct replacement for lucas.
If anything,my guess is that milner or can might play the more defensive role next season.
I've always avoided personal attacks on br, if only because its a cheap tactic, and he is trying hard to do the right thing and get us winning.
But letting lucas go shows clearly what a damn fool the man is.
That blinkered refusal to see the value of a specialised dm- despite all the evidence- will be one of the keys to his downfall.

3.) 13 Jun 2015 23:24:03
I fully agree with you. However I am excited about the arrival of kovacic, he is very highly rated and I've seen some inter games and recently Croatia games and he looks like a step up from what we have already. But I agree that I would be devastated to see Lucas go without a proper DM replacement, I would love for the transfer committee to make a call and move Allen on. If they have a say on who comes in they should have a say on who goes, and sorry but Allen has provided absolutely nothing but ball contention.

Having said that I think a midfield trio of Milner Henderson and kovacic could be a dominant force. Something we haven't seen since masch Gerrard and alonso.

4.) 14 Jun 2015 02:21:09
Kman, the only way Allen will leave is if BR gets fired. He has bigger him up so much that he is almost obligated to play him even if it means he gets shot of Lucas who is not even close to being in his class. BR will continue to play him because in theory, if he's playing that much then he must be good enuff, right? As for Kovacic, he is not a DM and neither is Milner so playing them there will result in the same failures we have seen from BR for two seasons now. In the end, Kovacic is a player we don't need ATM and will not fill the main need we have at the top striker and DM positions.

5.) 14 Jun 2015 07:16:54
I must have missed Allen being a regular starter for us the last 2 seasons.
Secondly, I don't think Kovacic or Milner will be assigned the DM role, isn't Can the replacement for Lucas?
Thirdly, I think we are trying to assemble a squad which doesn't rely on one default formation and is much more versatile in it's structure. Liverpool lost the league in 2014 because their setup was predictable and allowed Mourinho to select the perfect counter attack. The better teams will do that to you, the trick is to be unpredictable.

6.) 14 Jun 2015 07:40:04
I sincerely hope we don't move lucas on, my wife will kill me for one and we'll need to change 2 of our children's names lol. Difficult to understand the thinking behind overloading a team with attacking middle and letting dm's go, especially considering how weak we seem to be defensively. Oh well another 50 goals conceded next season. Here's hoping ings and milner can score more goals than suarez and gerrard did

People really need to get off Sterling's back. It needs to be remembered that he is 20 and the media are all over him - Woy hasn't helped that at all. He was the shining light at the dreadful start to the season. Obviously there is the contract situation but if you were in his position surely would want as much money as possible. Just because his form has dipped recently doesn't mean fans should jump straight on his back and call him everything under the sun. Just let him play football. The only thing lacking in his game is the final ball/finish. But he has years to improve that and he seems to be keen to do that as well. My highlight of the match had to be when Raheem completely outstrengthed Kompany.

He needs time to improve and it's not helpful when fans call him greedy and lazy because as far as I'm concerned fans are supposed to get behind players and support them rather than just slag them off :)

1.) 01 Mar 2015 21:11:52
To be honest mate, regarding his greed; all PL players get stupid wages anyway, so sterling is no worse than many others in that respect. He wants the normal wages for a top four premiership winger, and that's fair enough.
But what I think any club needs to ensure in a world of ffp is that they get value for money from their players.
And that's where my problem is with sterling. He makes lots of mazy dribbles and looks good, but what gets you into the champions league places is a winger who gets goals and assists. that's the bottom lin, and that's what he lacks in his career so far.
I think sterling has 5 assists this season, and he doesn't even feature in the top 20 goal scorers in the PL. Stuart Downing has 8 assists so far, and there are 18 other players who have more assists than raheem this season.
My worry is that in the area that really counts- goals and assists, he simply does not deliver at the level of hazard, di maria, oscar, chadli, sanchez, baines, and sigurdsson- and many others.
I honestly think the time has come for raheem to start delivering the end product that he is capable of, and that is needed from an attacking midfielder of champions league standard.

2.) 01 Mar 2015 22:04:17
As we saw today, he is still learning hence, asteful when in good positions and his decision-aking in the final third needs A LOT of work.

3.) 01 Mar 2015 23:25:06
I think because of how young he came into the first team, people are far too quick to criticise him. He has not looked as energetic as he has been but then he's been playing upfront on his own a lot recently. He's 20, as far as money goes it doesn't bother me, a lot of people would want to earn more money if they could. I know he gets paid plenty but for me as long as he performs well, which against city today he looked better i'm happy!

4.) 02 Mar 2015 00:44:33
Sterling has plenty of potential and has done a cracking job this season. No one outside of the club really knows what goes on with transfer negotiations but it certainly gives a much better impression to the fans when it's all done nice and quickly like IBE and coutinho. I remember reading Gods autobiography and him saying that he would just sign whatever was put in front of him. That's what fans want to see from players but unfortunately we're living in a different age now. What I will say is that sterling has been offered close to what coutinho has just signed and is still haggling then he needs to move on

5.) 02 Mar 2015 01:11:33
Baines in that list?! He's not a winger and he takes pens.

6.) 02 Mar 2015 07:25:58
Chadli hahahaha seriously man Sterling is better then half the players listed di maria isn't having a good season with his 250 a week

{Ed001's Note - Di Maria is being paid a lot more than 250 grand a week.}

7.) 02 Mar 2015 08:13:46
Fencey, fair comment if you are comparing goals, but baines has 8 assists as a full back, so he doesn't even get into the final third as often as sterling, but he regularly gets more assists.
I'm not bashing the kid, he's been developing as a player and a young man and you have to remember that.
But eventually, the bottom line with wingers or attacking players in champions league clubs has to be goals and assists, surely? How else will our club make the CL if the wingers aren't creating chances for the strikers?
With strikers in patchy form the assists are not easy, I realise that.
But I think now is the time his end product has to start getting more consistent.

{Ed001's Note - Baines does get into a position to provide an assist more often than Sterling, as he takes all the set pieces at Everton. So your point is moot. Perhaps if Raheem had options in the box to play the ball to, instead of usually being on his own when he gets there, he might get an assist or two more.}

8.) 02 Mar 2015 09:06:52
Fair point Ed, sterling doesn't take the set pieces- and if there are no strikers waiting in the box then no-one will get assists anyway.

{Ed001's Note - exactly, it was the same for Downing a few year's back (though he wasn't good enough but that is another story), people got on his back for no assists, yet he created the most chances in the league, so it was hardly his fault he had no assists! Baines takes all the set pieces, whether it be a corner, free kick or penalty (unless Mirallas fights him for it!), so he should have a lot of assists. That's not forgetting that he is usually in a position to provide a cross on every attack as the wing back, rather than actually in the middle trying to score as the striker. It is not a worthwhile comparison.}

9.) 02 Mar 2015 11:36:44
6 goals and 7 Assists this season.
On for 10 goals and at least 10 assists this season.
For a 20 year old that is not bad in my book.

{Ed001's Note - I totally agree with you on this one, for a change! I think people are just on his back because of the contract, when it is a big decision for a young lad. He should take his time and make the right one, and not have his manager constantly putting pressure on him to sign through the media. The lad is in the right place to develop for the future, let's just show him that instead of looking for reasons to get rid just in case he does go.}

10.) 02 Mar 2015 18:49:24
It's only taken 5 years Ed.
I can retire from the site now.
Made up.

{Ed001's Note - if I had known it was that easy to get rid of you I would have agreed years ago!!}

Fun fact about Pulisic. Spent about a year in England and played for my local club, absolute top draw. Can't remember why he was in England but we were about 6 or 7. Pointless info I know but it makes me feel inadequate seeing him playing for Dortmund and me still in sixth form!

Would anyone want him ed? if so we would struggle to get half our money back.It's a very odd situation because he looked boss for Southampton but just looks lost in an Lpool shirt A return to Southampton seems unlikely due to the fuss he kicked up when they rejected bids from us. I just hope if Lovren were to go we would give Ilori and Wisdom a chance at the club rather than spending a lot more money on another centre back

Good review mate. I'm very disappointed with our shape lately, the front always seems narrow that it leads us with nowhere to go with our attacks against teams that sit deep and set up to defend. I get the temptation to have Mane, Salah and Bobby playing one twos and creating from there but I can't help thinking we are limiting our play when Mane and Salah are excellent when they are 1v1 vs defenders. Instead they are seeming to get marked out the game in central areas. Maybe I'm overreacting due to a couple of poor performances but I was wondering what you thought of our attacking shape?

Thomo121

{Ed001's Note - it is meant to free up the full backs to get forward, which it does. Sadly Robbo was woeful and wasted plenty of chances to put a good ball in.}

Interesting concept and idea. However as a keen follower of the NBA the all star games themselves are almost always a let down. I would fear these types of games would be like pre season games with big names, much like we will see tommorow. It would be kind fun to see an all star type match in the prem though.
