We have decided to change the Teams page to be the Liverpool Match Posts page, so look for posts talking about the latest Liverpool match there.

But most of the posts still go to the Liverpool Banter page.

19 Jan 2018 11:18:17
Also more posts are being added to the Liverpool Other Posts page.

Hey ed002, rumours seem all over the place right now with a new player linked every day.

Do you have any further thoughts on the early window podcast after the coutinho sale. Any names where Liverpool might be showing January interest?

Please note I'm not one of those idiots who think a transfer happens easyily. Somewhat understand the complexities. Just looking for where there's serious interest at the moment.

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - It is near impossible for me to try and predict the timings of transfers. Summer is a far more probable time for transfer as clubs rarely plan to sell in January and picking up replacements is never easy. Liverpool have the CB they wanted and have continued to look but they won't, I hope, make a knee jerk signing. Since the Sharkopod they have looked at others as has been discussed.}

I’m the same about being unsure. Good player and you can see how he’s helped change Palace this season but it seems a tad random and can’t see him displacing Salah or Mane.
Just seen him talking about how the Utd move wouldn’t influence his decision moving to another ‘big club’ but even ssn haven’t claimed it’s information from ‘their sources’ so I’d guess it’s a non starter.

{Ed001's Note - he has lightning fast feet but the brain of a dead snail running them. Great at a crap club, as everyone can just stand back and let him run forward and stay out of the way. Skysports reporting., the club is set to hold further contract talks with Emre Can this month.
Do you expect it to be resolved, or you still expect him to leave?

Thanks, cheers!

I don't really rate him. I suspect that he would be a much better player in a slower league.

One thing I can be sure of is that if he does stay, he will be on a massive wage and I personally think that it would be better spent elsewhere.

Probably no hope of getting him in as a squad player to begin with and see from there.

Agree0 0Disagree

19 Jan 2018 01:36:43
Can has already proven he can do a very good job at the base of midfield, and was a key factor in defeating Man City in particular.

He has the physicality to break up play and help with set pieces, has the tackling skills, can distribute the ball accurately, and even push forward very effectively in attack and score goals. and he’s just 23. On the downside he’s not the most nimble due to his size, but with experience that won’t matter as much in the no.6 position, and he can sometimes dally on the ball, but that’s also something that can easily be improved.

Why would we not want him as 23 year old German international that plays in a problem position for us at base of midfield? I hope we can convince him to develop there, I can see him being a long term solution there.

Agree10 6Disagree

18 Jan 2018 12:46:10
If LFC don't qualify for the Champion's League, it won't be because they failed to bring in whomever. Bringing in a player, even a "top, top player" isn't a guarantee to get us there. And how many players that are available would actually slip right in and improve the starting XI? There are plenty of players I'd like to see in a Liverpool kit, but most aren't available in January. It's better to wait for the Summer than overextend on a stopgap.

Agree19 8Disagree

18 Jan 2018 12:49:24
Over spending wouldn't bother me too much. The club has to obviously work within the FFP rules but spending big money on the likes of someone like Lemar wouldn't worry me.

Every transfer is a risk, but our recent ones in Mane, Salah and Ox seem to be paying off despite some feeling we overspent with them when they first joined.

End of the day Lemar is a highly regarded young french national that the likes of Barcelona were looking at if Coutinho deal didn't go through. He obviously has ability, the risk comes in when we think if he can cope with the premier league.

I am glad woodburn is getting a chance, he should be getting that as backup to mane and salah.

But in my opinion the club has had ample time to prepare for coutinho leaving and not getting a replacement or any midfielder with Henderson injury record is a huge risk.

Remember the meltdown after we drew to West Brom and Everton! One or two poor results the pressure will crank up.

Agree10 5Disagree

18 Jan 2018 12:49:34
Hindsight is a wonderful thing Jaylfc1, problem is none of us have a crystal ball so your argument goes both ways! What if we finished 2nd without signing a Coutinho replacement in this window?

Agree8 3Disagree

18 Jan 2018 12:50:50
We just got over the odds money for coutinho, if there's no more incomings and we don't qualify for the cl we'll look a right laughing stock, but we'll have money in the bank, yippee.

Agree9 12Disagree

18 Jan 2018 13:03:22
You say one or two poor results will crank up the pressure so here's an idea - if we happen to get a couple of poor results, don't crank up the pressure. don't contribute to the media storm. Just take it on the chin knowing that we're a strong team and form will pass.

Also, Barcelona spent 130m on a player to replace Neymar. He was instantly injured and didn't play all that half of the season. Spending money does not guarantee a single thing, if Klopp is happy then let him get on with it.

Agree18 4Disagree

18 Jan 2018 13:05:54
I agree with JordZ.

As a club, Liverpool have had more than enough time to identify Coutinho's replacement, if this is Lemar and we can't do a deal in Jan then fine. You can't force a club to sell after all, but if we then fail to get the said target in summer, i'd be disappointed.

Loosing a player of Coutinho's caliber would detriment any club on this planet, so let's not pretend we "don't need him for top four". I'm not saying without him we can't get it, but with him or his identified replacement, we'd surely have a better chance in all competitions.

But then maybe I'm just gagging for another signing ha.

Agree8 1Disagree

18 Jan 2018 13:09:06
I think it’s much simpler than that - it’s a question if the right players are available or not. Klopp has made it clear he will spend if the right players are there, but won’t spend on players that won’t improve the team.

We can talk all we like about spending or not spending on Lemar but Ed has already told us Monaco don’t want to sell in Jan, and others might move but not want to move to Liverpool or break the wage structure (Sanchez) .

As for Woodburn, hope the guy gets game time if he stays, a few games where he gets 20-30mins could be really important but if he sits on the bench all year to watch Milner and others to still come on if we’re 2 or 3 up it’ll be a big shame.

Agree10 0Disagree

18 Jan 2018 13:09:55
Jordz, I understand your point mate but what if the players Klopp wants just aren’t available. That might be Lemar, might not be.

Point being if clubs are refusing to sell or asking for crazy money in order to sell to us then there isn’t really much we can do but wait.

Unless we go out and sign second, third or fourth choices. (But that doesn’t seem to be Klopp’s way of doing things - ed02 will remind me that salah definitely wasn’t first choice) . But you get my drift, id rather we waited until the right player became available. I don’t think ‘replacing’ coutinho right now is 100% necessary.

Agree7 0Disagree

18 Jan 2018 13:11:24
Considering much of the talk has been about midfield and ahead of there and the thing likely to determine top 4 or not is more likely to happen behind there I don’t see how no more transfers is going to change what happens.

Agree2 0Disagree

18 Jan 2018 13:28:39
Lets see if peoples opinion changes if we fail to finish in top4 this season. Funny how people forget how we struggle to break teams down who sit back for 90minutes.

I guess we still have Milner to come in, unless of course he is already starting.

Agree3 11Disagree

18 Jan 2018 13:41:34
It doesn't matter whether we get a big signing or not for next half. I believe our team is capable of top 4 finish. for once we should stop the panick buys. if Klopp wants to sign Trapp for instance. I believe in him. ya some of his decision is not good. but he is human not a god or someone with time stone that can go back and change the past! but so far his buys have had more success than Rodgers buys right? not the transfer committee buys Rodgers ones lik Borini and all. let's get behind the team like we did for Manchester city game and we can beat anyone on our day. even Barcelona munic and all. they have to play at Anfield right? in UCL. we just have to make home game a lot tougher. booking every time they get the ball such will definitely help our team.

Agree3 0Disagree

18 Jan 2018 13:49:43
Weakening our front 4 mid season with loads still to play for was never a good idea.
Not bringing someone else in is an even worse idea.
They've known for quite some time that Coutinho has wanted out, plenty of time to organise something.
Salah, Firmino and Mane can't play every remaining game.
Sturridge could very well be on his way out leaving us with Ings and Solanke as back up, neither of which can be trusted to perform to the required standard.
Not to mention Coutinho was basically 2 players wrapped up in 1 as he was capable of playing in the front 3 or as an attacking midfielder without any difference in quality.
As mentioned earlier we are gambling with CL qualification here while the teams around us are strengthening.

Agree8 5Disagree

18 Jan 2018 14:01:16
I don't see how Woodburn not going on loan has anything to do with us signing anyone. Especially since he hasn't played. Not that I teally think we will get anyone and don't mind if we dont. If someone good enough is there and available we'll get them but if not wait til the summer. Wooburn being kept. conclusion: we won't sign a keeper.

Agree3 0Disagree

18 Jan 2018 14:02:10
Problem is you guys don't realize the impact selling coutinho will have in the long term, klopp likes to rotate, it's been ok so far because we've had the quality to do that, if we get into the CL quarters, guaranteed klopp will rest salah bobby or mane maybe even all of them in between games. What comes in? Ings lallana or woodburn.
That's where our top 4 chances will fade.
Arsenal are getting Mhki and Auba for Sanchez. Arsenal! The team in crisis right now. There not keeping one of there youngsters to help fill the void.
Liverpool have never been more attractive to players as they are right now, in the CL still, in the top 4, just smashed the best team in the league. Use it to get a quality player in.
Cuz team Harry Kane can easily finish above us.

Ed01, would you still expect someone in before the end of the window, ?

Agree1 2Disagree

{Ed001's Note - still? I said I didn't expect anyone mate. We are still trying but we always seem to mess up and sign our targets at a later date.}

18 Jan 2018 14:10:24
Just for argument sake let's say we have no more ins and outs. As the games with CL, FA cup and prem come thick and fast and we get 1 injury to mane, firminio, Salah, ox. How deep are we for squad rotation? Remember what happened last year in January.

Agree3 2Disagree

18 Jan 2018 14:27:20
Guys, if Coutinho was injured for 2-3 months and not sold, would we buy a "top top" player to replace him? :) I know we are all nervous, cause 2 years in a row playing in the CL would (maybe) brings us back on track with signings etc, but still, this squad just beat a team which hadn't lost this season, give the guys a break and stop talking about departed ex-players?

We are perfectly fine to qualify for the CL, hell, even to finish before Chelsea, imo.

Agree7 8Disagree

18 Jan 2018 14:42:02
But he still not injured for 2/ 3 months.
He's gone and not coming back.
That's the difference.
We are now a player light for the front 3 and if Sturridge leaves which is a real possibility leaves us even lighter.
Salah, Firmino and Mane can't play every game.
Why gamble with CL qualification?

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm not, well don't think I am yep just checked again I am definitely not a manager of a Premier league football club. Jurgen Klopp is however and he seems to be pretty good at it in my opinion so with that in mind I have decided to let him manage the team and I have just decided to support them. Well said whz! We are superb! We did just beat Man City and let’s not forget Virgil wasn’t playing in that game. Also people saying couts was this couts was that, he didn’t make us as gud as we are all on his own, we’ve got Salah, ox, mane, Solanke, ings, Woodburn, Lallana and Sturridge if he stays that’s decent rotation up top for the lesser games. The further we go in the champions league the better we will get in my opinion as we always up our game against more attacking teams, we will pick them off! YNWA.

Agree2 0Disagree

18 Jan 2018 15:16:00
Another thing to remember is that we've being playing without Lallana for the first half of the season. Where does he fit in if we sign another attacking midfield player? Has everyone forgotten how good he was for us last season.

I know he hasn't looked as sharp since the injury but that's effectively another player coming into the squad for the second half of the season.

Agree7 0Disagree

18 Jan 2018 15:50:31
Ben Woodburn will take his chances if Klopp offers him. He's young and raw, but he cvan make some contributions. In t hat sense, he's ready. Maybe this is his real opportunity to stake a claim, who knows?

Agree2 1Disagree

18 Jan 2018 15:52:14
Have read all the comments and there are points to argue for both sides. I think ultimately another Jan signing might be more down to what happens with Sturridge than with the sale of Coutinho.
Last month at some points Klopp was benching (resting) TWO of the front four, which seemed to imply that he thought we had more than adequate cover. Maybe he sees the return of Lallana as something like a new signing?

Tbh, our goalkeeping situation is more of a worry than buying a replacement for Coutinho, especially if none of the club's 'true targets' are available. The Keita, and to a lesser extent, van Dijk transfers do give us an insight into the manager's thinking. It's more about who he wants than who is available, and he seems willing to go the extra mile (to Blackpool) to get these specific players in.

I think if Sturridge leaves we might get a squad player in (sort of a 'Klavan til we get van Dijk' type thing)? Other than that I think that's it.

Agree4 0Disagree

18 Jan 2018 16:32:14
I keep seeing people the club has had time to get a replacement for Coutinho. I thought we replaced him in attack with Salah and in Midfield with Ox. I'm fairly certain Klopp and the club knew Coutinho would be leaving when they decided to spend 70 mill on those two.

I'm all for buying more better players whenever we can but I don't see any reason to replace Coutinho (again? ) .

Agree5 1Disagree

18 Jan 2018 16:10:25
It's not really pressure from fans. I think we are all used to our ups and downs over the last 20 years we have seen them.

But the only way we can keep out of the pressure is by winning games. You can't stop the pundits from saying after a 0-0 draw against a mid table team "they missed that bit of magic that Coutinho offered".

I am not saying that using woodburn is wrong but I feel like we are putting a lot of pressure on the lad if we are thinking he will be playing part of a very dynamic midfield 3. He would be must better being subbed on for mane or salah. Not the pressure of pulling the strings. So many fans jumped on solankes back already and he's only played 400 mins.

I think the lad will take his opportunity if he is used, but will he effectively anyways? Or are we going to wait for the games where is 0-0 and expect him to come on and win us the game? It's a risky strategy.

Our season shouldn’t hinge on us signing one player. That said Barcelona didn’t sign couts just for this season. They recognised that it gives him another few months to bed in and prepare for next season while giving iniesta some time to recover/ prepare for CL games. I’d love to see us go out and get the player (s) that have been identified as soon as possible. Fingers crossed that’s in this window. Otherwise we’ll have to wait. But if Sturridge does go and we suffer an injury the squad does begin to look a little thin.

Some massive overreactions on here! If we sign someone we still have the second best team in the league, what if De Gea gets injured? United screwed, harry Kane? Good bye Harry Kane team, arsenal are a sh*t show right now, Chelsea? Why overpay for a player most of you have o my seen on YouTube when if Klopp doesn’t want him enough? A massive amount of money to waste.

Whilst I agree that a loan is probably still best for him at this stage, I honestly think he can do a lot better than Sunderland. Kent and Grujic have joined Bristol and Cardiff - 2nd and 3rd placed teams in the championship I believe. Woodburn should be looking for similar, not a team that's on its way down. Just my opinion.

Agree3 1Disagree

19 Jan 2018 01:01:32
Doubt Woodburn will be going to Sunderland, I seem to recall Coleman and Klopp having exchange about how much Wales should be using him, with Coleman telling Klopp to get lost pretty much, something tells me Klopp remembers that and won't be keen to help him.

He is in no way suited to be a left back in a back 4 like the media seem to think. That is why Chelsea and Juventus want him; he is perfect for their 3-4-3 formations in the left midfield/ wing back role. For us, he'd offer perfect balance to the midfield (with Ox on the right of a 3, and Emerson on the left) as both players can pull wide when Salah and Mane come in-field, but additionally, both Ox and Emerson are extremely hard working and very direct which is exactly what Klopp wants. He wants us to press high, and get straight at the opposition when we win possession back. Gini, Can, Henderson and Lallana all take too many touches on the spot, without actually going forwards far too often. They're too slow in terms of the transition from defence to attack. Keita, Ox and Lemar/ Emerson will just fly at the opposition and cause havoc.

Patience is required with either Lemar or Emerson though. Neither player are the finished article just yet. Emerson offers far better value for money though, as He'll likely be less than a quarter of what Lemar would cost.

MK
This comes from a Chelsea fan. He is not rated at all. And I hope we stay away from such signings.

“This lad was loaned out from Santos to Palermo and was playing as a back up to their first team player. He was then loaned out to AS Roma and was playing as a back up to Digne. He was then bought for a small fee. He also got injured seriously. This lad has hardly played enough football, if he can't make the first team of Palermo or be ahead of Kolarov in Roma then how is ever going to be good for us as a back up? I would rather throw in Kennedy and give him games. This is the story of our transfers nowadays.

who cares what a chelsea ''fan'' thinks baby driver? if we are supposed to care what fans think then we are never signing anyone because there is always someone who doesn't rate someone! How about you? you wanted up to sign Douglas Costa from Bayern instead of Salah, how is that turning out? Hmm.

{Ed025's Note - thats a bit insular of you legendary, im sure others appreciate what other fans think and for me its healthy, who wants to hear liverpool fans who are lauding up their own players and how good they are all the time?, dont be so shallow mate..

He is a wing back and would never replace Coutinho.
Not in million years. We don’t need a WB in the first place unless I am worng in where Klopp intends to play him.
Regarding Salah, No one wanted him and he was the 4th choice for Klopp! But he was a winger! You have to explain how Palmeri would be a good option to Lemar! Completely different players!

You're far more well placed than me to know the truth Ed002. I'm only speculating, but it is a rumours site after all mate! From the outside, it looks like Lemar would cost far more than he's worth (you yourself have said it would take a ridiculous offer to interest Emenalo) . If you know that, I've made the assumption Liverpool also know that. I could be completely wrong though and maybe Liverpool are still pushing to sign Lemar. I won't be holding my breath!

Harry, when a player is being tracked by Juventus, Chelsea and Liverpool you can be pretty sure they aren't a bad player! Regardless of what some Chelsea fan who clearly has never watched him play, might think.

For a start, the only reason he hasn't been playing at Roma recently, is because he had an ACL injury and he's only just returned. Gomez also needed easing back after doing his ACL. Emerson hasn't ever been a regular in Europe because he is 23 years old, but in Brazil he was seen as a future star by everyone. Alisson wasn't a regular until 6 months ago and couldn't get in the team ahead of Szczeny (sp), yet he is wanted by multiple top clubs around Europe. The thing is mate, scouts and avid followers of European football look beyond a players appearance stats and actually go and watch the player before fabricating an irrelevant opinion.

That Chelsea fan is clearly a muppet. He hasn't actually judged the player on anything to do with ability, just on which teams he's been at and how often he's played. That makes it patently obvious he is judging a player he's never watched.

Harry he is not a wing back, and the only reason Emerson is not playing is because he has been injured.

Last season he made 36 appearances for Roma. Around half of those appearances came at the left midfield/ wing, with the other half coming in a combination of positions which included central midfield, left back, and right back. He completed the full 90 minutes on 24 occasions.

You really should form your own opinion mate instead of listening to a Chelsea fan who has never watched him play, hasn't even done their stat research properly, and was simply looking for an excuse to bemoan their recent transfer record.

If you watched Roma at all last year, you'll know that they were the 2nd best team in Italy. So to make 36 appearances for them at 21/ 22 years old was impressive. He never looked out of place either. If we are genuinely interested, and he's not a Thomas Lemar alternative, i will eat my own shoe. Because he plays the exact same positions as Lemar does, which is primarily in an attacking left sided role. I'll be gob smacked if he ends up as a left full back. Even left wing back is wasting him to the same extent it was when Wenger put the Ox at right wing back.

He is very similar to Lemar and the fact you think differently suggests that you also have never seen Emerson play.

And mr. Harry i never said he would be an option to Lemar did i? Or replace Coutinho? please point me to where i did. MK Scouser did talk about Lemar, in my opinion Alberto Moreno has only next season on his contract and the club will move him on and Emerson is seen as his replacement.

You won't see me overrating our own players or undermining other teams players ed025, this is my honest opinion, that we as fans have too much opinions and the club will do what they want and see as the best option for them moving forward no matter what we think. Plus that fan's opinion ignores the fact he had a bad injury saying he can't play ahead of Kolarov which is simply not the full picture, i honestly couldn't care less what other fans think to be honest, because i speak 4 languages and most ''fans'' talk crap about most LFC players! Even our fans do, so i will take other ''fans'' opinions with a pinch of salt thank you very much!

{Ed025's Note - thats your choice legendard, i just think its helpful to hear other fans point of view myself mate as long as its not out of spite of course..

I always like to hear other fans views Ed025, but that Chelsea fan that Harry has quoted has managed to write 100 words plus about a player, without once mentioning anything about his actual ability, style of play, or even preferred position. His final line slagging Chelsea's business just gives away his true intentions; to belittle and moan about Chelsea's recent transfer business. Sounds like a fan not happy with Barkley and Carroll, who has decided to start a little agenda against someone at the club.

I don't watch every Roma game, but i try my hardest to catch at least 5-10 a season and watch the highlights of every game. Emerson was fantastic on the left of midfield. He made driving runs at the opposition at every opportunity, whipped in dangerous crosses, took on shots from distance, always wanted to beat his man, and always looked for the killer pass. The only difference between Emerson and Lemar is that Lemar is much better at that final pass right now, and Emerson is a much better dribbler. Their playing styles are remarkably similar though, and they are both left midfielders who can cover various positions down the left flank or in central midfield.

That Chelsea fan has based his entire misinformed opinion of a player on incorrect appearance stats, and Harry has proceeds to base his opinion of Emerson on the misinformed opinion of the Chelsea fan!

I'd say, at least make an effort before acting like you know anything about the player? Even Youtube will probably show you that Emerson's strengths are in direct attacking play and running with the ball, not defending!

Strong rumours we are trying to sign Emerson Palmieri from Roma. For anyone wondering why we would be trying to sign another left back, Emerson has a few more strings to his bow.

Personally, I've always thought his future lies on the left of a midfield or front 3, where his skill, attacking intent and direct style of play can be more beneficial and less risky. At left back, all of his best attributes are stifled. Think of him as the left footed Trent Alexander-Arnold!

Believable5 2Unbelievable

18 Jan 2018 09:40:21
Isnt it Roma have who have a young left back they see as a big prospect not Palmieri which would be an indication of their willingness to sell?

{Ed002's Note - Roma are selling players for a different reason than having any you prospects.}
