Barella Newcastle bound for 50m

Ed’s, because of previous interest. Would that force our hand?

Thanks.

D.nunez27

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any agreement but they have an interest as I have explained. I am not sure what you mean by forcing Liverpool’s hand.}

Hello Ed’s, thank you for the response.

Meaning that we had interest would that push us to make an offer amid Newcastle’s accelerated interest.

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - No, I would not think Liverpool would do anything like that.}

I think the poster means like with the Diaz situation. We had interest but as Spurs were looking to sign him in the January we moved earlier and stopped Tottenham from signing him.

Newcastle aren't getting barella for 50m absolutely can't see it being anything less than 70 or 80m. even so at 50m that is maybe 10m to 15m out of our limit. Seem to forget newcastle are in champions league and financially blow us away. Get used to it lads but I can't see any big money signings until the rebuild is virtually complete and we are back in champions league or we sell some1 big.

Right, is it just me or is the problem pep lijnders? Hear me out, the book (probably the only assistant manager ever to do that) the coaching? Like he’s always there, always trying to get his 2 cense in. From what I’ve seen it looks like he’s trying to push Klopp out in a way ?‍♂️ I dunno what’s your thoughts Ed’s and everyone?

I don't think it is as extreme as many make it sound, but there is no doubt in my mind that he has substantial influence with Klopp. And Klopp may have always managed that way, I don't know. Buvac had substantial say, as we all know. Otherwise he wouldn't have stuck around for 16 years, giving the spotlight always to Klopp. If you go searching for clues that you can pin on Lijnders, you'll undoubtedly find them. Three consecutive purchases (Diaz, Nunez and Gakpo) from leagues that Lijnders has close affiliations with. A Director of football who suddenly wants to leave a few months after reaching the pinnacle that so many others aspire to (maybe he opened his mouth and said "no, we need midfielders first"- who knows? And a new system on the field that he supposedly promotes, which has resulted in a title contender becoming a mid table team. Sure the players share responsibility on this last one, but couldn't he wait until he took over? In the end, almost everything depends on the results on the field. When you're winning everyone is cheering. And when you're not, then everyone is pointing fingers. I myself remember supporting the idea of Lijnders getting a shot first before Gerrard at managing the club when Klopp leaves, in earlier days.

2.) 06 Apr 2023 22:40:55
OP, There is NO Lijnders without Klopp. Klopp is in charge and he deferred to him on this ship show of a system that does not suit the players. Klopp signed of on it so the buck stops with him.

3.) 07 Apr 2023 08:16:05
I am absolutely sick of this Ljinders blaming. If he has influence, it is because Klopp has given him that. If possession play is his idea, it's still only used because Klopp agreed to that. There was no talk of Ljinders slating when he had the same influence but Liverpool were winning titles. He's an assistant manager. Don't make him out as the scapegoat. There are many other who should be blamed before him.

4.) 07 Apr 2023 08:20:34
Well said Oli. Even if Lijnders is the problem, Klopp is the root cause.

I can't see them backtracking either so let's just hope we get the right players to make this new system work.

5.) 07 Apr 2023 08:24:12
Without player churn, the same old coaching voices get boring, whether talented or not. Change the players and/ or freshen the coaching staff.

Secondly, I’d hope some of our senior squad members are empowered to provide input on tactics. Senior players read and react to body language of their squad mates the fastest.

Klopp has the power to change this.

Ps Lijnders is an attention seeking galaxy brain.

6.) 07 Apr 2023 09:24:34
I have no idea, and none of us do really, cos none of us are there. I even wonder if those 'in the know' are basing their assessment on seeing Pep more in interviews, or whether there is inside knowledge that Pep actually has more influence? I dunno, but either way I'm a bit over the Pep bashing.

Wasn't that long ago people were rushing to put his name ahead of stevie as Klopp's successor. Now he's apparently the worst thing to happen at the club. Over it.

7.) 07 Apr 2023 09:34:39
Just from the outside looking in.

I’ve always backed Klopp to turn you guys around, as you will see on previous posts I’ve done on here before. However, I don’t think you can blame the number 2 for form and tactics etc. main reason being Klopp will have the final say, and he will be the one who wants him there.

For what it’s worth, I still think Klopp will turn you around and as long as he still has that drive he came with he will get you right back to the top competing. He needs some back this window and allowed to make the changes he needs. Most importantly he needs all the Liverpool fans to stick with him.

Best of luck for remainder of the season fellas.

8.) 07 Apr 2023 09:43:05
Love Klopp, but he has final say!

9.) 07 Apr 2023 12:27:47
We have more than one problem. That is the problem.

10.) 07 Apr 2023 14:02:18
Rigsby, you're describing life, aren't you? It shouldn't be a crutch to lean on, but rather something you realize and address. ?.

11.) 07 Apr 2023 16:06:08
I don’t think there is anything controversial to hear our OP. The problem is clearly Linders but at the same time if Klopp is allowing him the freedom to run the club into the ground then he as manager also takes the criticism for that as the buck stops with him obviously. Ultimately though people will aim at Linders because who out of them would you rather stay if one had to go? There you are then.

12.) 07 Apr 2023 19:19:15
How is the problem clearly Ljinders?
His reputation as a coach is very very good. He might have different ideas about the game. But do we want to implement it or not, is completely different. I remember Trent cutting in was so effective at the start of last season. It was a masterstroke. Teams evolved to that, but signing Diaz got us through the second half of the season very well. This season the changes they have made have not worked well, but I in no way believe that an assistant manager can be the biggest reason for this.

13.) 08 Apr 2023 13:12:29
Thekoparmy, aside from the OP, not many people have said its all Linjders' fault. I certainly don't think so. It takes a fairly large combination of things going your way to create a title or cup winner. And it takes just as many things going wrong, to fall off the cliff the next season into mid table obscurity and scrutiny.
