Very pleased with the intent and setup of the team last night. Even though it was Ipswich, I thought the press was very good. Loved the win the ball back quick attitude. It was very evident.

Gakpo and Isak interaction was top draw. We got the Cody from 2 seasons ago, with nothing predictable about his game. He looked strong, focused and worthy of his place in the best club in the world. Munoz was great too. He's going to be a Kop favourite. He never gives up; no defender in the prem will be able to relax with him around.

Dare I say it, even Macalister looked mobile covering empty space and doing his job very well. Needs to learn the new rules though, he still did his best man dead impression, slapping the floor hoping to get the game stopped. Then 2 mins later, running round like a spring chicken.

I'm hopeful.

Tuesday's biggest game so far, let's give BB a nite to remember.

Massive shout out to the away supporters. Great to hear the old bony M song. Great feel good night.

Going to work with hope in my Heart.

Does Gakpo actually need competition to keep him on his toes?

Florian needs a song … It’s embarrassing on match day.

Basic. To the tune of the legendary "you're f. s*** song" by the Hammers.

Florian Wirtz (long on Wirtz),
Florian Wirtz,
A f. magician,
Hurts the opposition,
It’s Florian Wirtz.

It’s about time to reward hopefully a stack of goals and assists this season.

Florian needs a performance. Should be running the show in a game like that.

Just a personal thought.

Is there any reason, besides the (he's not good enough for Liverpool) why we wouldn't sign James Tavernier on a one year deal for cover whilst Bradley regains his fitness.

We've registered a U-21 player for the HG quota, which he also fills. He's been solid enough for years and has the ability to at least put a cross in which lands in the same post code as Isak.

Again for the 'Not Good Enough' crowd, neither is Frimpong.

Or am I so ashamed of the transfer window that I'm now trying to convince myself an old SPL right back isn't so bad after all.

Merci

Two slight errors in your post though, FSOG. Firstly, there's no HG quota at all. There is a non-HG quota of 17 and the other 8 would need to be HG to fill up the rest of the 25-man squad. But if we don't have that many HG players, we can register fewer than 8 and have a squad smaller than 25 players.

Secondly, Mabaya does not count as an U21 player since his birthday was before 1 Jan 2005. So he needs to be registered to play in the EPL for us. And I'd rather give him an opportunity to cover RB than to sign a soon to be 35yo player and pay him high wages to essentially just be emergency cover.

Champions League squad has been named. Chiesa and Endo left out as not enough foreign player slots available. 250k per week in wages to probably play 2 League Cup games each season. Shows again that it would have been very difficult to sign the midfielder or right back that we all wanted without other major players leaving.

According to some on here, this isn’t a problem though.

We really need to get a better grip of the amount of home grown players in the squad, it’s been 3-4 years now that we’ve hit the limit on foreign players and it’s limiting the business we’re able to do.

Without crying over wages that you're not paying, do you care to explain how leaving 2 players who can't even get their game out of the squad is a problem?

1

04 Sep 2026 08:17:10
You are a bizarre man chewy

2

04 Sep 2026 10:00:28
Beef, maybe you might enlighten me instead. What's the problem with leaving 2 rubbish players who don't fit the bill and can't get their game out of the squad?

04 Sep 2026 14:32:32
Maybe don’t have them at your club at all.

04 Sep 2026 14:38:47
Ok Florian, so how do you sell players nobody wants to buy?

04 Sep 2026 16:04:53
Why the hell have we got to the stage where you are even asking me a question like that in the first place? This is Liverpool FC. Both are nowhere near good enough for us at this stage of their career. Let them go for free, surely someone would take them.

04 Sep 2026 16:09:10
Chewy, it is very clearly explained in my post about how it has affected our transfer incomings. So not even selling the two left out would have allowed us to sign any new players. We'd have had to get rid of Mac Allister etc. to even allow a new midfielder. Try and engage some sort of critical thinking.

We let TAA and Konate go for free, VVD and Gomez and, I think, Alli go for free next summer. So why not let Endo and Chiesa go for free this summer if it was impacting our ability to bring in more non HG players?

0

04 Sep 2026 19:17:48
Mcgoveb releasing Endo might have had some merit as he's free next summer. Chiesa I think has at least 2 years left, so the cost of paying off his contract is higher and goes on the balance sheet in full.

If we somehow managed to sell him in January, it would look better. I do feel it'll end up being a loan out with Ndukwe returning to facilitate it.

They might not want to go.

Take a breath, Florian, mate. This sort of thing happens all the time. Clubs don't want to spend big on cover; they bring in someone on the cheap to do a job, it doesn't quite work out and they're hard to shift on then. It's a regular occurrence in football, so let's not pretend, like just because "We are Liverpool" that we're above any of it, because that sounds very entitled.

You might think you did, DK97, but you really just contradicted yourself. You made out like there was an issue whilst also stating the solution that has already been found, which was a very simple one that some of us on here have been pointing out would happen all summer long. You're giving out about not having enough homegrown and, in the same sentence, pointing out that we did in fact have enough HG. So where's the problem? They might not be the homegrown you want, but they'll do me and many others who are only delighted to see some of the young lads get a shot. That's exactly how it should be. The squad could do with a few hungry young lads wanting to challenge. Sure, a few top homegrown players would be nice, but unless we blood them ourselves they come at an insane cost.

Whatever business we didn't do this summer was by deliberate choice. Nobody is stopping us from making purchases, certainly not fringe players like Chiesa and Endo; the notion is comical. Big clubs are always operating in around that non-HG limit; it's not an issue — one in, one out if necessary. We were looking at Wharton, non-issue. Camara—nobody would have had an issue with us replacing MacAllister or Grav after last season. If we brought in an RB we'd be shifting Pingpong on... there's many ways to skin a cat.

Going to Alonso as two more "Chelsea Pensioners" with Henderson and Welbeck?

How's our predicted player of the season?
I'll go with Wirtz. I hope Andoni brings out the best in him and shuts up the mainstream media.

I’m as annoyed as anyone about the failure to bring in a midfielder in particular, but when you boil it all down, we have a potential starting lineup of Wirtz, Isak, Barcola, Szobo, Macca, Grav, Kerkez, VVD, Jacquet, Araujo and Alisson. Apart from probably Kerkez (who may yet surprise under AI), I think those are all players capable of playing at the highest levels.

If AI can get the attack/defensive balance right and we can add a player or two in Jan (Camara and Minteh pls) to strengthen the bench, then we may yet surprise people. I think it’s time we moved on from Hughes/transfer team to focus on backing the team/coach we have.

Liverpool’s first choice 11 is as good as any other club in the league. The problem is once you get past the first 15/16 players the drop off is quite large. Obviously doesn’t help having 3 first team players in Ekitike, Bradley and Leoni out long term.

03 Sep 2026 07:26:29
Totally agree. I do think we have a squad capable of exceeding or achieving something great this season but it’s up to the boys on the pitch to perform. People seriously underestimate just how good some of the lads are.

The scars from last season run deep.

I think you’re spot on, Man of Todd. People are letting last season’s form cloud their judgement.

In my opinion last season was kind of like 2020/2021. It was a perfect storm with many contributing factors all coming together at once.

Then in 2021/2022 we came storming back and nearly won the quadruple.

I don’t think we’ll do that this season (neither will anyone else btw), but I do expect us to be far, far better than we were last season. I think we’ll get better as the season goes on, so if we are still in touch by January then a title push is definitely not out of the question.

Slot could not get a tune out of Florian all season, Andoni after 2 games, Florian (Man of the Match) ran the most kilometres (12.3) of any player on the pitch, 92% passing accuracy (L/S), made the pass to Gakpo for Isak to score, supplied the assist for Munoz, Notts Forest had 11 players behind the ball when Florian provided the above 2 passes.

Scored a good disallowed goal according to MOTD, and went close with a header, he's enjoying his football now and so will we! Ye play better with a smile on ye place than a frown.

Thankfully our next opponent's first letter of their name starts with an I; we have yet to beat a PL side whose first letter of their name begins with an N?

The last time Isak played at Ipswich he came home with the Match Ball. Up to you, "Alexander the Great"?

Well said, VG. Couldn't agree more. Really looking forward to what Iraola can do with this squad
