Lads, just watched the highlights of the comeback from Barcelona for some inspiration for Wednesday (Kiwi time) and thought who are the top 3 cult heroes of your time. Mind would be -
1. Divock Origi - Champions League goal scorer and helped us win at Everton for the league.

2. John Arne Riise - Bordering on cult hero as he was a player for years - proper passion for the shirt.
3. Igor Biscan - Wondered why we signed this guy and still do, but he never gave up the lad and everyone loves a trier!

Jari Litmanen, Dirk Kuyt, Lucas Leiva.

Completely forgot about Kuyt, what a player he was!!!! Also, I forgot about Maxi Rodrigues, who was a close 4th for me!!!!

To me, whichever formation we go with next season, whether it is 4-2-2-2, 4-3-3, 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-1-2, the key area is going to be the double pivot in midfield.
Whoever has played in the double pivot this season has been lacking in physicality, defensive mindset, the ability to win tackles, the ability to win headers and the ability to win second balls.

We desperately need a Fabinho type player in there.
I believe you could then have Gravenberch or Szoboszlai playing alongside them and it would bring the best out of them.
This is obvious to see yet the issue has never been addressed.

4231 or 3421 will suit the current players.

Agree, KP, but it is clear whichever formation, we need a proper number 6 and Wirtz needs legs around.

With all the talk around Allison leaving, we should have a serious look at the young Ipswich keeper currently at Coventry. I've seen Rushworth play quite a lot this season and he is a fantastic shot stopper, good with both feet and is a commanding figure. I think the young man is destined for big things.

A quick search shows he is a Brighton player that has had plenty of game time on loan barring last season. It all depends on what the plan is for the 3, excluding Ali, that we already have. Mamardashvili looks like he will get until the end of the season to prove his worth, then we have Jaros with the injury, and the youngster Pecsi.

Woodman I would personally expect to leave at the end of his contract.

Hey guys. Amidst the misery of this season for Liverpool, I’ve suffered silently with you in the forums, but have discovered my joy of football here in Switzerland. Been lucky enough to live here for a few years since the missus is Swiss - they wouldn’t want me here otherwise - and I’ve really started to enjoy the Swiss Super League.

Have started following St Gallen - kinda the Dortmund of CH. Great historic club currently flying high in the league - and the matches are a blast - high skill, clown car defending, high-scoring end to end matches.

Some passionate crowds who feel more connected to the players because it hasn’t all been totally ruined by money and expensive watches (looking at you Szob), reasonable-ish ticket prices too.

I know it’s a point that’s done to death but it’s really reconnected me with the love of the game.

I’ll always support LFC due to my history up there, family, connections, etc. But at the moment I’m feeling so disconnected from this paywalled, hyped up overpriced ‘product’ that they’re taking away from our fans - plus it’s suddenly bilge to watch.

Anyway, putting St Gallen out there. Anyone else have a soft spot for a second team in another league?

It has to be Bodo/Glimt just from the bits I've seen in Europe this season. It's good that you've rediscovered the joy of the game.

Nice post, SwissRed.

Nantes and Saint Etienne in the French league. Nantes, because of family links and Saint Etienne because of their amazing fans back in 1977.

Hertha and Union Berlin because I used to live in Berlin, when it was divided. Union was viewed as the workers' team, whereas Dynamo Berlin was the Stasi team, in the old East Germany and therefore, hated by many Berliners.

Always had a soft spot for the Spanish Basque teams, especially Real Sociedad because John Toshack managed them and memories of their very friendly and happy fans, back in the '70s, when they came to Anfield.

The Basques were/are(?) often seen as outsiders by many Spaniards, a bit like Scousers in England, so I always felt some kind of connection, as a result. Napoli are a bit like that, too, although their fans are crazy.

Bayern... Even when we played them back in the 70s... When Kompany went there, I thought, that's it, they're finished. 😂

Barcelona, Villarreal, Milan, Dortmund.

Bath City for me. Unfortunately they are getting relegated this season. If you think the football at Anfield is bad, come down to Twerton Park. Mind you, we beat Chippenham Town on Good Friday with a last minute winner.

It looks a beautiful country, SwissRed, and you should be used to seeing expensive watches, as most are made in Switzerland!

Hamburg SV 1980s, because I was working just outside Hamburg when Keegan was playing for them. It was great, my Scouse accent got me some free beers, and when they got to the European Cup final we watched it in a local bar. Great atmosphere.

Inter Milan and Hibs in Scotland would be really only other teams I take an interest in.

Dundalk in The League of Ireland for me! Lived there for years and it has a great association with LFC. Bazza's second team too and I don't even have to ask him that!!!

My second team is Bristol Rovers due to living near Bristol. I also have a soft spot for Sheffield Wednesday after the cup finals against Arsenal in 1993 and St Mirren in Scotland.

Lugano and Como, simply because they are beautiful places.

OP, couldn't agree with you more. Spend quite a bit of time in Switzerland. Beautiful place. Have a couple for me.

Used to like Lazio in the 90s, Italian football was amazing then with Gazza and other greats.

I think Liverpool is a beautiful place, Rome! 🥳

I just checked the fixture list, away at Everton, Manchester United and Aston Villa with a home time against Chelsea are tough games with the form that we are showing.

Home games against Fulham, Crystal Palace and Brentford again with our current form I can see us dropping at least 4 points.

I am guessing Europa League at best for us, does 6th spot get CL football if Villa finish in the top 4 and win the Europa League?

I think the answer to your question is yes.

Ha that's true Red_Flyer. Have no idea about or love for watches myself but a mate did visit a while back and said "do you see the watch that bloke is wearing it's worth £££!? " What is great here is the nature and I've found I booze a lot less - just isn't that culture here- and eat fewer sausage rolls.

I'm in my 40s so that matters! Pricy country but the hiking and mountains are free and I love that side of things.

I have been reading about best fullbacks, I really liked Rob Jones.

Very good footballer who sadly could not overcome persistent injuries.

11 Apr 2026 07:50:27
I guarantee if he was playing in current team people would be less kind about his lack of availability. He'd be "made of crisps, get shot"

2

11 Apr 2026 08:16:49
Rob Jones would have been the best right back in Premier League history without injuries, miles ahead of Neville and Walker.
My fav fullback has to be Steve Nicol, fantastic going both ways.

Wasn't it shin splints he suffered from? Great player, loved him. I'll never forget that debut game, signed from Crew on the Friday, and played v Man Utd on the Sunday, and had a prime Giggs in his pocket.

I love Rob Jones, I always remember FIFA or Championship Manager always had his speed and acceleration at 99 or something.

I always had a soft spot for Stig Inge Bjornebye, what a cross that guy had on him.

Sick of hearing the crap about slot now! The itk’s are bugging the nuts off me with the repeated updates of things that aren’t happening. He won’t be going anywhere till the end of season, it’s my opinion. And I think everyone knows that. He’s not wanted at the club. But the constant repeat of nothing is getting out of hand.
Sorry about the rant lol.

10 Apr 2026 15:27:05
And you've just pointlessly added to repetitive posting of "Slot stays for the season" that you're whinging about in the first place. Good job!

Reply VictorGoodman,
Briefing the journalists? It was also a crafty move by the club to announce Robbo’s departure. In my opinion, it took a little pressure away from Slots press conference today. I wonder if that was the plan also? Just a thought!
Cheers,

Reply to Victor, Robbo, Fields, Carra.
I agree Slots probably gone! Barring some crazy stunt which they did with Rodgers and give him the start of the season?

However, I don’t understand a multi million pound business giving him this long and risking losing out on trophies and Champions League qualification? For me, that’s the thing that’s baffling as he’s clearly out of his depth and wasn’t turning it around.

For me, the games coming up don’t leave me optimistic and I never felt like that in a long, long time.
He had more chance of turning a double decker bus around in a 10ft tunnel… Cheers.
