Really disappointing what's happened with Van Dijk. A summer of him, Salah, and a left back would have been dynamite. I hope we're looking at an alternative CB. I've read that Salah might not happen, and we're looking at Sporting's Martins instead, any truth to that?

RedHustle

{Ed002's Note - In January Sporting made it clear to the one club who enquired that Gelson Martins is not for sale even at the €60M minimum realease fee that he has for Iberian clubs but this may not deter Manchester United from making a bid although he is not first choice. Real Madrid has been watching the player whilst Chelsea and Manchester City consider the price far, far too high. I am not aware of any approach from Liverpool and, again, he is a right winger so it makes no sense to me.}

1.) 08 Jun 2017 01:14:53
Approaches are not the liverpool way ed😆.

I've read the posts which suggest that we are looking to offload Mario Balotelli; Although, admittedly, his performances of late have been poor, I am still pretty surprised by this. Is Rodgers really ready to throw in the towel with him already after less than a third of a season? If so, I think it's pretty ridiculous, and I'm starting to really lose faith in our transfer policy. Particularly coupled with the talk of offloading Sakho as well, it is just terrible, terrible business, and it makes the club look like a bit of a laughing stock.

RedHustle

{Ed002's Note - Regardless of what Liverpool want to do, his agent has enquired of at least half a dozen clubs as to whether or not they would be interested in taking MB.}

1.) 12 Nov 2014 18:15:48
Can you list the clubs Ed002?

{Ed002's Note - Try the search engine.}

2.) Couldent agree more with that post, Rodgers has lost the plot, trying to put the blame on ballo. He's been isolated and starved of chances. Obvious he has quality and needs Sturridge back with him, We're awful to watch this season, no chances created with this stubbon formation and as for sakho a French international who I think is solid and our best center half at the club after agger who also left.

3.) Edd 002, is that a reflection of MBs attitude or simply his agent hitting the panic button on the assumption Liverpool might look to offload?

{Ed002's Note - He had just been fined by the club, he was clearly unhappy, the manager was constantly making a fool of himself and the club by discussing players in public, his agent had met with the club and the result of all of that is that he was offered to clubs in England and Italy.}

4.) E02 - but are the club looking to offload him?

Agents are always enquiring. After all, it's in their interests.

{Ed002's Note - It is what I said it is.}

5.) I guess the way I would read the situation is if a club were to make an acceptable offer for Balotelli (a pretty big if at the moment as I don't see many being interested), we wouldn't stand in the way of his going elsewhere.

6.) Has any of these clubs he's been offered to shown an interest? Or any other clubs too while we're at it?

{Ed002's Note - Done to death.}

Have read a reports of Palace baulking at an asking price of £30m for Sakho, and I actually don't blame them. We seem to constantly put too high a valuation on players that we're actively trying to get rid of, and end up free transferring them following a loan, à la Balotelli. I thought we were pretty damn lucky to get £30m for Benteke.

Personally, I don't see how the club value Sakho at £30m, he's 27 now, and hasn't really improved much, in my opinion, since he joined us aged 23. I think he is a good defender, albeit rather shaky on the ball, but not earth shattering. Moreover, regardless of his ability, it's also pretty much common knowledge that Klopp has frozen him out of the Liverpool team, which surely means that it's also common knowledge that we're actively trying to get rid of him; So I'd say it's a pretty bizarre position, to be demanding other clubs pay a premium for a player that we are refusing to include in our own squad.

I understand that the club want to recoup as much money as they can for him, but we got him for £18m, and he's had an inconsistent spell in the premier league, as well as aged 4 years. Don't see how this equates to a £30m valuation.

RedHustle

{Ed025's Note - you make some valid points there mate..

1.) 04 Jul 2017 20:02:22
The current market is the only reason 30 million is being quoted. Suppose it depends just how much klopp wants him gone. It really is quite a strange one given that he was a firm favourite before preseason last year. I know sakho is going 100% but we'd have to let other clubs believe there is a chance of a reconciliation with klopp. Stranger things have happened. Did he bang klopps wife or something?

{Ed025's Note - i hope not kopdog, you know what they say...once you have had a bit of sak theres no going back.. :)

2.) 04 Jul 2017 20:06:50
RedHustle, you do make some very valid points in a stagnant market, BUT the market is not stagnant in fact its superheating right now due to the additional TV money etc.

We're constantly challenged by the fact that, say, todays £50m is £25m from 2 years ago etc.

I do think £30m is racy, but we must compare him to other movers in the market, not his price 4 years ago.

Is he worth the same as Michael Keane? If not, then not far off, imo.

3.) 04 Jul 2017 20:15:19
1. Coz we brought him for £20 mill

2. He is actually a good defender

3. Some terrible players have moved clubs for around £20- £30 mill.

4. The club need to recoup as much as possible to balance the funding of incomings.

4.) 04 Jul 2017 20:41:19
He was also part of the reason they didn't go down.

5.) 04 Jul 2017 20:49:43
The longer he stays the longer we pay his wages, knock 5 million off his asking price and let him try rebuild his career.

6.) 04 Jul 2017 21:21:47
If VVD is 70million then sakho is not more than half the player. in current market for a proven French international it's a good price.

7.) 04 Jul 2017 23:04:54
Sakho plays centre half and could easily have 10 years left of his career.

It differs from manager to manager what they see in and how they man manage each player.

like at Palace who were at the time desperate to get big Sam in to keep them up. Sakhos style and dominance suited his requirements .

Big Sam had nothing but praise for Sakho, and rightly so as he was immense for them.

I have to say that as much as I respect Klopps right to pick his own players, I think he could easily have given Sahko another chance,
6 months in the reserves is long enough a punishment ESPECIALLY as we were suffering with injuries in that position at the time.

This would have helped the club and at the same time put Sakho in the shop window to attract clubs to buy him.

With all this latest klopp nonsense of illegal approaches and tapping up players, along with the handling of Sakho I get the feeling that Klopp may need to look at tbe bigger picture and put the clubs interwst before his own ego.

He banished Sakho for unprofessional conduct WHILE LATELY, BY HIS OWN ACTIONS ALONE HAS BROUGHT THE CLUBS NAME INTO DISREPUTE.

I wonder what is German for what's good for the goose is . ?

8.) 04 Jul 2017 23:04:57
Everton have paid £30m for Keane. I don't see the issue of our valuation of Sakho when he is a better defender!

9.) 05 Jul 2017 07:52:35
It's just a starting point and palace and Liverpool are playing the game. In a month or so they'll pay around 23 million for him.

Went down to Anfield from Glasgow for the first time last Sunday for the Plymouth game. I just wanted to say that even though the game itself wasn't the most exciting, the experience was amazing. Actually being in the crowd singing You'll Never Walk Alone brought a tear to my eye. I hope to return soon.

03 Nov 2016 17:49:10
Talking purely hypothetically; based purely on ability and disregarding Sakho's apparent attitude issues and any other offer field issues, do you think Sakho and Matip would make a more solid CB partnership than Lovren and Matip?

RedHustle

1.) 03 Nov 2016 18:13:48
I'd lean towards yes. Sakho's a bit rash on the pitch sometimes and makes errors (particularly with his headers), but when he's in top form he's quite a bit better than Lovren in top form. And Lovren does make mistakes too.

But given Sakho does have off-field issues and is going to leave the discussion is kind of moot.

2.) 03 Nov 2016 19:44:39
Matip and Sakho are the most talented are the most talented CBs we have as individual.

3.) 03 Nov 2016 19:48:11
He is a better defender than lovren by some miles but that's it. Southampton robbed us on lovren. He is bang average. Not sure y people cannot see it.

4.) 03 Nov 2016 20:18:15
I prefer Gomez and Matip. Both are very cool in possession.

5.) 03 Nov 2016 21:15:38
Gee how quickly things change. Just a few weeks ago there were lots of comments about how Lovren was performing under Klopp, very few negative ones.

6.) 03 Nov 2016 21:28:04
I don't ever want to see Sakho on for us again due to his poor attitude. Having said that yes I believe him and Matip would've been a decent partnership. But now I'd rather see young Gomez given his chance.

7.) 04 Nov 2016 00:56:58
I don't think it's necessarily negative mate, no one who watches us can reasonably say that he's a bad player and I agree that we need stability but I don't think it's mutually exclusive to incrementally pursue options that improve the team. In the long term it makes sense to look for a higher calibre of player, as Ed002 states, players are transitional employees of the club and are supposed to be professionals, that's the reality.

Furthermore I don't think anyone is suggesting we sell/ replace him in January by the way. We can be more than happy with not only the displays, but the results, and every member of the team is contributing to that. Why so glum?

8.) 04 Nov 2016 09:52:23
No, I don't think Sakho would be better than Lovren. I think he is a bit overated on here.

I think I can see a pattern with Matip and Lovren. Matip is the 'player' and Lovren is the guy to keep it simple. I think having both Sakho and Matip would result in having 2 'players' at the back - both trying to be inventive with the football, either in their passing or moving forward with the ball.

I think it's all about moving the football as quickly as possible and whereas Sahko has a better, more incisive passing range than Lovren, he also likes to dwell on the ball and over-elaborate with it. I think this would slow down the tempo of our play.

If you look at us this season, Hendo is a lot closer to the centrebacks, so the pass being played from defense to midfield is a much shorter, simpler pass, it's about recycling and continually moving the ball at speed. Our incisiveness is further up the field in the next phase. However, there's no doubt that Sakho's vertical passing would be advantageous, as he can find the front 5 quickly (although having Milner at left back allows this anyway) . I just think for this overall system, Lovren works better.

9.) 05 Nov 2016 09:52:56
Why even bother with this, he obviously has a terrible attitude even Ed001 has said he had attitude problems. Let it go and hopefully we can reclaim most of the money for him and let's concentrate on the great players we have who don't cause problems.

10 Aug 2016 15:12:57
In the event that we don't sign a left back, do you think will Moreno be first choice? Or would the out-of-position Milner be preferred to him?

RedHustle

1.) 10 Aug 2016 16:04:22
Klavas. How does noone see he will be number 2 there. Matop and lovren for the middle and klavas as lb. Played there most of his into career. Looks good aswel.

2.) 10 Aug 2016 16:04:53
Would prefer Moreno over Milner.
But would prefer we buy a left back than play either.

3.) 10 Aug 2016 17:02:30
Klavan would be too slow to play at left back in the premier league, yes he has played there occasionally before but he is primarily a centre back and it would not be a good decision as we're just using square pegs in round holes again and swapping one problem for another.

4.) 10 Aug 2016 17:12:57
His name is Klavan, and he certainly has not played most of his career at Lb. He is a CB and after being converted into one from being a midfielder, has played CB most of his career.

5.) 10 Aug 2016 17:17:16
When klavan was asked if he could play at left back by lfc tv his reply was along the lines of "who told you that? I'm a center back. I haven't played left back for 6 or 7 years" he will not play left back in my opinion. I think he'll start at center back on Sunday unless matip is fully fit. We need to sign a left back Moreno is below average but Milner at left back is far worse.

6.) 10 Aug 2016 18:05:55
International career yes he has.

You all want hector and he is about as fast as a tractor with burst tyres, good player but pace isn't the most defining factor.

Watch his Romania highlights and he looks good at lb.

Also your all wanting Milner, can, ed001, Ian ayre at lb instead of morwno.

Wouldn't you want at least ahead of all them a left footed defender, who can and has played there in the past.

7.) 10 Aug 2016 18:25:50
I'd prefer Clyne left and Milner right, Milner is a better crosser and the few games Clyne played left back last season, he was better. I know it's two players out of position, but with mane right, who goes inside and out, Milner should be clever enough not to overlap when mane has space, and can cross from deep well.

8.) 10 Aug 2016 19:11:01
I will tell what i want! A left back to play in a left back position, not a midfielder, not a centre back not even a right back. I want a left back and i think we will get one but if its Moreno then so be it.

9.) 10 Aug 2016 20:03:55
Lol genius he's estonian not Romanian. Clearly knows nothing thinking an estonian cba is a Romanian lb.

10.) 10 Aug 2016 20:25:14
Paulo, I'm sorry but if you can't spell his name, don't know what country he plays for, and think he's played lb for most of his career, I'm afraid you've been watching the wrong player.

Please search instead for Ragnar Klavan, the centre back from Estonia, or better yet, stop judging players on youtube.

11.) 10 Aug 2016 21:35:09
Good god. I thought you all had the iq to work out into was a lazy was of putting international, I never said all club and international career.

He played lb for Estonia for most of his international career, and his youtube clips from his estonja highlights with him at lb look good.

You're all judging hector, chilwell, amavi etc etc etc on youtube clips or without even watching them just on what people have said about said player.

You're all talking about Milner at lb, Stewart, can, clyne and so on. Yet out of all if we don't sign anyone Klavan is the absolute best suited to it, and since he has already played the position before at international level its not really shoehorning someone else.

How are we arguing about my punctuation or abit of wrong info.

Surely it is just do you not think out if whole squad that if we don't sign someone at lb, that klavan would be the best suited for that position.

Also klopp has stated he isn't going to be 4th choice, doubt matip, sakho or lovren will either.

I really feel if are actually lb whoever that is isn't playing then klavan will, the Estonian who played his club career at cb but has played a lot of games for Estonia at lb. 😉.

12.) 10 Aug 2016 22:06:16
"You're all judging hector, chilwell, amavi etc etc etc on youtube clips or without even watching them just on what people have said about said player"

I'm the one who mentioned not judging on youtube. I have never watched or judged a player based on youtube videos (That's not true actually I've watched Maradona), nor have I based my opinions on what other people say.

"You're all talking about Milner at lb, Stewart, can, clyne and so on. "
I'm against playing every single one of them players playing at lb. Why? Because they aren't lb's, the same as Klavan isn't a lb.

I fail to see how because someone plays there a couple of times a year for his country, even though international football is a joke, you seem to think that makes him the best option for lb.

Also, he will likely start at cb against Arsenal, due to Sakho being injured and Matip not being fit. If he performs why would we shoehorn him out of position?

You trying to justify your argument by generalising everyone into a "You all want" is quite pathetic too. Make your points, don't generalise everyone else.

13.) 11 Aug 2016 06:47:08
Am i the only one who sees the irony that some called You feels that 'you all want' is a generalisation?

14.) 11 Aug 2016 08:21:24
Hector wasn't originally a left back, he's a converted midfielder. Stewart was originally a right back.

You don't emerge from the womb with a predetermined position. Intelligent players can adapt, that's what Cryuff's 'total football' ethos was all about. He wanted 10 outfield players that could play well in any position - all able to tackle, dribble, pass, header and shoot and all tactically aware enough to defend or attack.
Really, for the wages these lads are on, they should be at least proficient in more than one position and be capable of adapting tactically. I'm sure with the right coaching and a bit of dedication they could do it easily.

26 May 2016 02:16:22
Do you think Chilwell is ready to go straight into our first team? I admit I've not really seen him play, but he's never made a premier league appearance for Leicester, and only made 8 championship appearances for Huddersfield. I know he is well thought of, and has a lot of potential, but its a big step up.

RedHustle

1.) 26 May 2016 02:48:33
We have seen Stewart and others make a step up this year. let's give them a chance and support them before we judge them.

2.) 26 May 2016 08:43:07
Also he probably would have made appearances for Leicester if they weren't moving heaven and earth to keep that same team together as much as physically possible this season.

3.) 26 May 2016 10:58:08
Fuchs had such a great season.

If he gets any more than a few months then the club should definitely sack him, in my opinion. It'd be ridiculous to keep a player around on 80k a week who is no longer able to make an effective contribution due to the fact that he's done something idiotic. People can make excuses like "But wait, he might have accidentally taken a banned substance because it was in these tablets he though were legit, so it's okay", but I don't buy that at all. These professional athletes have it spelled out for them; if you don't know what's in it, don't take it, or at the very least have it cleared by someone at the club who has the authorisation to do so. I mean don't get me wrong, I love Sakho; I think he's been incredible for us this season, probably our best CB in my opinion, and seems like a stand up guy, but honestly if he's cheated, and gets hammered for it, he's got to go.

I could see it being another 0-0 draw, we've been looking pretty blunt on the goals side of things. Hoping for a 2-1 win though, myself. Firmino and Can to score for us, Costa against. I just hope if Chelsea get the win nobody starts slating Klopp!

If we were going to buy a ball playing centre back, wouldn't we be looking to sell two out of Skrtel, Lovren and Toure? I really feel like we are crawling with CBs post Rodgers, most of whom don't even get used.

RedHustle

{Ed001's Note - crawling with them? You have listed 3 of our 4 there, now Gomez is out injured.}
