A question for Ed001 if you are about. I noticed in the past when Klopp was still managing Dortmund that he would at times use the 4231 formation with a center attacking mid such as Kagawa/ Gotze. My questions are as follows:

1) Do you see any possibility of Klopp occasionally going back to the 4231 formation with the addition of Thiago as another holding mid and Minamino as the potential center attacking mid? Also what would be some of the tactical changes that would have to happen if there is a change in formation if Liverpool played 4231 instead of 433.

2) Do you see any similarities between Kagawa's and Minamino's playing style? And do you think Minamino can thrive in a similar role?

3) I was a big fan of Kagawa when he was at Dortmund and was gutted when he signed for united. But was quite sad when it went downhill for him. Was wondering if you know what was the cause of his decline.

Thanks!

{Ed001's Note - 1. He has already used it a number of times in the past, with Firmino dropping deeper as the attacking mid behind Salah usually. There is very little change that is needed as we often end up in that situation when we attack anyway, due to the fluidity of the front players. Plus it is usually just one midfielder that gets forward at a time to support them in the box. So it would require very little difference other than it wouldn't be the two forward midfielders who cover the full-backs when required.

2. Not really, but I mostly remember Kagawa playing for United, where he was badly used and never really settled properly or played particularly well. Minamino can certainly play the point, but so could Firmino, Shaqiri, probably Jones as well.

3. He just wasn't given the same kind of freedom or used in a similar way, as well as playing against tougher opponents. He then lost confidence and never really recovered. It didn't help that a lot of his game was about getting the ball high up the pitch but United were not pressing so high.}

Hi everyone, I’m sure we all can feel the excitement of a new season before us.

Does anyone want to share a bold (But somewhat plausible) prediction for this season?

One for Liverpool and one for the rest of the league.

Here’s mine.
Liverpool: Salah and Bobby both break the 30 goals mark this season (All competition)

Rest of the league: Fulham springs a surprise package and finishes in the top half of the table while United misses out on a top 4 spot.

I hope you are correct about utd but the rest seems far fetched. Ill stand by my previous comments arsenal will finish before us in the league.
On a positive 5 players in our team will hit double figures for the league and we will beat last seasons 4th with a 3rd place finish.

2.) 03 Aug 2018 10:53:52
I was thinking we should all email a "bold" prediction in, and see what comes in, maybe a Liverpool one and a Rest of League one.
Mine: Mane to be top scorer.

3.) 03 Aug 2018 11:19:14
Interesting!

Mine would be.

Liverpool: A Liverpool revenge over Real Madrid in the champions league (group stage or knockout)

Rest of league: Crystal Palace to finish best of the rest (7th)

4.) 03 Aug 2018 11:34:00
Liverpool: wins the league
Rest of the league: Man united sack mourinho in Dec when they are placed in relegation battle.

5.) 03 Aug 2018 11:48:35
I'd say:
Liverpool top 4 but I have a feeling we won't do as well as we expect (in the sense we will be a good 10 points off the title)

Attack will be amazing as usual with Salah + 30, Bobby + 20, Mane +

I think Keita will be our best signing this window. Alisson will take time to settle and be panned by everyone in the mean time and I think Fabinho will also take time to settle.

VVD will prove to be one of the best CBs in the world and Robinson will have another cracking season.

Ballon d'or will go to Messi and Barcelona will win La Liga.

Reckon Rangers will have a good season too.

City to win the league. Liverpool, United (because of De Gea) and Tottenham will be top 4. Chelsea to just miss out. Arsenal will be mediocre as usual.

Everton will have a good season as will the team with all the Portuguese signings (I think Wolves) .

Top scorer: Mo Salah followed by Harry Kane.

Young player of the year: Ryan Sessegnon

I want to guess the first manager to go but I have no clue, I'm going to say the Bournemouth manager. Although I have a feeling Rafa won't stay long at Newcastle as well.

What's the prize for winning? ;)

6.) 03 Aug 2018 11:54:22
Liverpool: Fabinho to be the signing of the season.

Rest: Tottenham will completely collaps and finish 6th.

7.) 03 Aug 2018 12:00:37
Liverpool will win the league, the league cup, the fa cup and the champions league.
2)City
3)Chelsea
4)Arsenal
5)Tottenham
6)United
7)Wolves
8)Everton
9)Fulham.

8.) 03 Aug 2018 14:14:39
Everton lose their first three games, go into panic mode and bring fat Sam back. Man U sack moanrinio after he abuses the owners (again) and they're mid table at xmas
Arsenal are top at new year, then us then city. We win the league, arsenal second, city third, Chelsea fourth

Moanrinio is sectioned after being found on a lay by in Wiltshire at 3 am in the morning screaming 'wibble wibble' at passing motorists.

{Ed0333's Note - you. Add some salient points Marshy but for me you lost you lost credibility at wibble wibble

Myself and negativeredwalter are in our own little competition at the moment to see who can get the most thumbs down! Race to 100?

10.) 03 Aug 2018 14:51:40
Walter, genuine question, I assume at this point you're just playing a character? I just don't understand how anyone could really believe Arsenal will finish above us this season, I mean it could well happen but there's no logic to it.

11.) 03 Aug 2018 15:37:59
Naby Keita will be in the PFA team of the year.

12.) 03 Aug 2018 15:46:16
I predict a second place finish, a cup win (FA or league) and a run to the CL semi-final.

I think City will win it again, but we’ll run them very close, Chelsea third and I can’t pick between Arsenal, Tottenham and Man Utd. I think Man Utd will struggle this season though and Mourinho will leave mid-season. Tottenham will struggle if they lose Alderweireld and Dembele but stay top 6.

13.) 03 Aug 2018 16:00:04
Navy Keita 15+ goals and assists in all comps.

14.) 03 Aug 2018 16:50:28
Liverpool: Mane to outscore Salah

Rest of the league: Southampton, Everton and Cardiff to get relegated.

15.) 03 Aug 2018 16:57:23
Lol Dan, Welcome to my world, Walter is always full of surprises with his views hahaha!

I keep expecting him to do a post one of these days and say ' just to let you lot know, I've been having you on for all this time! we're going to win the league! ' but I fear we won't see it. :)

16.) 03 Aug 2018 17:04:03
Mane to outscore Bobby

Spurs to miss out on top 4

Cardiff straight back down, joined by Huddersfield and Bournemouth

Wolves to finish between 10th to 12th.

Don't want to predict how we'll do cause my bias is sure to kick in but I'll go with an improvement on last season's 4th place and at least semifinal of the FA cup.

Oh, and Chelsea the team to replace Spurs in the top 4.

17.) 03 Aug 2018 17:09:11
Liverpool: Win the league, quarters in CL, win the league cup, quarters knockout in FA cup against a lower league team. Klopp to win manager of the season. Salah to win golden boot. Keita to be widely considered the signing of the season.

Top four:
Liverpool
City
Chelsea
Man Utd

Tottenham, Fulham, Wolves, West Ham, Burnley and Arsenal to make up the top half of the table.

Relegation:
Cardiff
Southampton
Huddersfield, sadly

Mourinho to see out the season but then "mutually part ways" at the end

Claude Puel to be the first manager to part ways with current club.

18.) 03 Aug 2018 19:27:14
I don't think fab8nho needs time to settle in. He has been here for months now. In pre season he has looked very assured, knows his job. Much better (for us) than big Emre as fab knows his main job is to defend. Can pass too.

Keita is going to be a revelation. But just in case it does take zone time for players go settle we should refrain from getting on their backs.

Hey there.

I know this really isn’t the page for this topic, but because I’m a Singaporean who has served national service, I think I can help by giving you guys a bit of perspective.

National Service in our country is mandatory because of the history of our country. Singapore is a small island nation with no natural resources other than the people living on the island. We now have a population of about 5 million.

Back in the 1800s Singapore was a British settlement and remained so until World War 2. During the war, Singapore was captured by the Japanese forces and the British no longer had a sizable presence in Singapore. After gaining independence from the war, the Singapore Government decided that it could no longer solely depend on allies for national security. Hence there was a need for a local defence force that could be activated at any time to defend Singapore.

At that point in time, Singapore’s neighbours were also going through a time of “reformation” which led to tension between countries due to racial, political and economic differences. That heightened the need for a defence force that the country can rely on.

Fast forward to modern day, National Service in Singapore has changed a lot. Majority of us (who are medically and physically fit) still go through the basic military training. From there we get posted to various branches of the military to serve. Those who are not capable of serving from a physical or mental point of view will either be given a different administrative or supportive role. Generally speaking, national service has done more good than harm in terms of giving people jobs, providing national security, upskilling the workforce and even keeping people fit. Although many will disdain at the fact that they might lose 2 years.

Deferment of National Service has only been given to athletes who have an opportunity to participate or achieve something great at a national level. E. g. Joseph School (you can google him) . The Ministry of Defence in Singapore’s stand for Ben Davies states that his situation is no different from pursuing personal goals which are no different from the rest of us Singaporeans. And deferment will only be allowed in "exceptional circumstances".

Personally, I feel that the Government should seriously consider allowing him to defer his National Service because an opportunity of this magnitude does not come everyday for Singaporeans. But then again, it opens a can of worms due to the complexities and other considerations of “fairness” for others who have had to give up their dreams to serve the country.

Just my 2 cents, or pennies for you guys.
PS. Sorry for the long post.

nedla
