Well that's the second loss this month. I posted a couple of days ago that November used to be a bad month for us, and it has certainly started that way again.

Just as well there's a pointless international break after the CP match, which I can't see us winning either if we play like tonight.

It's just one game I know, but is there anyone here who didn't miss Araujo's energy today? [Another reason we should sign him permanently] What was Virgil and Ali doing today as the leaders of the team? Araujo isn't perfect, but you can't accuse him of being half-hearted. Anyone's can lose a game of football, but tonight, our boys played like they had somewhere to be and couldn't be bothered.

Even Jacquet was poor today, which was strange. I don't know how Barcola continues to get 90 minutes; he's been so poor.
I think it was an all-roumd poor game, except for Trey and Ngumoha, which is why I was baffled that they pulled him off and left Barcola on.
Very strange game!

Rio went off because he flatters to deceive. He beats men in areas that don't matter, and has no end product. He might beat 3 men but he never gets his shot off and never gets the cross in either. Add to that, he never runs in behind.

Gakpo came on and within a few minutes, he made a run in behind and crossed for Isak's goal. Rio is only young and can improve, but we should stop going overboard on him when he produces very little other than fancy stepovers.

Abysmal performance. I don't think I've shouted "pass the f ing ball" at the TV more.

Far too many touches taken, far too slow in decision making and next to no progressive passes forward. Safe, safe, safe, lose the ball, panic

Only Trey and to an extent Rio can come away with any credit from that disasterclass.

This is where I don't see the real difference in this season. This happened against Arsenal too. How are you breaking teams down with slow passing and movement. The club needs to make a statement to some big earners who are naive in thinking they're guaranteed first team football. Dom and macca are not what we need centrally.

Many of us called this last season, we've basically bought a load of new players who aren't winners or leaders. Talented they maybe, but not serial winners. They don't have that killer mentality.

Our old leaders and world class players have either faded badly or been offloaded, they've been great but they're old or gone. It happens.

Maybe all the naive nonsense about a world class squad and great coach can be put to bed. They're all learning on the job with the exception of the old guys, and the results are inconsistent as a consequence. We'll qualify for the next phase but unlikely we'll get far.

I only got to watch the first but for me szob was the main culprit. Every time he got the ball he slowed the game down.

Some terrible performances there tonight, to a man we were poor all over the park with the exception of Nyoni.

Tzimikas is a terrible defender and Gomes is a flake.

Ali was so poor tonight and expelled more energy complaining to the wall from there free kick than coming to collect an easy cross for there winner. Passing out from the back was shocking.

Barcola in the 9 was a disaster the same as the last time he played there for us, cannot play with his back to goal and should never play there again.

Rio was bright in attack for spells but defensively he is naive and try's to take on 3 players in our defensive 3rd rather than just moving the ball.

Szob was defensively very poor, didn't track runners and is a bit of a tactical novice at the best of times, lots of energy and pressing but not effective at all.

Virg and Jacquet were battered today and didn't deal with the physical battle at all.

I'm putting this squarely on the players, we are set up to play man to man on the press but if you don't win your individual duals you don't win games.

The way they played this evening was a disaster,
VVD started that rot, what an awful display from our captain,
Did they set out to actually win this game

What could go wrong went wrong,
Best I can say is that the best team won,
and that was the way to lose the game,

Wirtz is a tallent but his style slows down the tempo and destroys any space that's been gained through Nyoni breaking down play. Slobbo is just wasted. We missed our best player Araujo and Barcola can not play central. Our midfield should have Macca and Nyoni and young Trey should model his game on Kante. Nyoni the only bonus from todays game.

Other than trey not 1 player showed any quality, they looked like absolute amateurs. The lack of balls to go and win a ball in our own box borders on unprofessional! We won’t play a weaker team than that all season. Andoni better be tearing a strip of that lot in the changing room.

I've never seen a more brainless performance from a team in my life. Defence awful, jacquet had nightmare, ali well well off it.
Nyoni+ rio only 2 players we had.

Rio was poor too. He was trying to take people on in his defensive third.

Trey was the only one who did well but the goals we gave away tonight were absolutely criminal.

Ali looks like he's going through the motions that was the worst performance I've ever seen from him. He was absolutely awful.

I'm still not sold on Iraola and performances like that make me think I might be right.

It's a massive step going from Bournemouth to Liverpool, or from some of the clubs we've bought players from.

We've taken Bournemouths SD and coaching set up, and Kerkez, and perhaps not surprisingly the results are mixed and probably not consistent enough to succeed at the top level. Certainly not short term. Only Barcola has come from a big winning team.

I can see the appeal for FSG thinking they get an elixir for success that's lower cost than other alternatives, but real fans aren't kidded by some of the players we've bought or decisions we've taken.

One or two results don't make a season, but the overall incoherence of performance this season and poor results at home in the league are symptomatic.

There's a lack of savvy and understanding of the what is takes to meet the expectations at a club like ours as compared with Bournemouth or the clubs some of the players have been bought from.

{Ed025's Note - you make a good point CV70, when Bournemouth lost 3 on the trot last season nobody batted an eyelid...it was a blip, if Liverpool dont win or draw a couple its seen as a disaster mate...thats expectation..

Nyoni came out as our only player who can hold his head up, he is going to be some player,
The rest need to be shipped out end of the season,
Can't believe that VVD wasn't subbed half time
Greek lad also, why was Ali playing, Marmalade should have got this game.

That was nothing short of pathetic, I have never seen such a bunch of flakes in the 50 years I've been supporting this team. Its the worst defending I've seen from us as a team in many a year our defensive coach must have had the week off in the lead up to this game. The only positive for me tonight was Nyoni he was excellent with rio and Munoz also staring.

As for the likes of Allison, Van Dyke, Jacket, Tsimikas, Slobz, McAllister and Co might have well stayed at home they were all absolutely disgraceful I could go on and on but this team needs a good kick in the arse and dare I say it big Virg needs to be dropped for a game or two as he's a liability at the moment.

Zippy - who you dropping VVD for? The problem is the unbalance in the squad that Edward's and Hughes assembled. Too many injury prone players that we have to manage. Too many players with the wrong profile, too many similar players who can't play the way we need, wrong players bought over the last 3 windows. Only Trey, Rio and Munoz come out of that game with any credibility. We need a CB, LB, RB, CM, all who need to be starters, that is going to cost another £200m.

We need to ensure AI gets the time he needs, even Klopp couldn't turn the tide instantly. I suspect a big turnover of players will happen again before we see any real improvement. I would only drop VVD if we can field someone better, the problem is he is probably still our best option, that is a real concern.

You're incorrect CGD. We require 2 Midfield players plus a RW. Then add the others you mentioned. On the plus side we have a new goalie arriving next June so at least that's a positive.

I know we are short at the back atm, but Big Virg's performance's of late have been a real concern, could big Ron not go alongside Jacket and play Joe at right back just to give VVD a break or the kick up the arse that he needs as he too casual and quick to blame everyone for his mistakes. Don't get me wrong Virgl has been unreal for us but the demise of late is very worrying and the fact that we don't have any natural leaders in our team is a major concern, there are too many soft touches throughout the 1st team and this needs to change whether its through recruitment or a change in players attitudes which I don't see happening.

It will be very interesting to see what our team and squad is like after the next 3 transfer windows, as for me there are a lot of mediocre players robbing a wage at the club and unfortunately a lot of them think they are better than the actually are.

Yep that was a shocker.

We will have ups and downs but hopefully these are very few and far between.

The forward line experiment did not work so hopefully do not see that again.

Bit of me thinks we almost turned up and thought it was in the bag but very much 2nd best all night.

Disgraceful performance from the senior players, kids did very well especially Nyoni, the arrogance of van dyke lately is starting to filter into the likes of Jacket and Slob who along with VVD were absolutely shocking let's hope we never see such a lack luster unprofessional performance like that for a long long time.

That performance was farcical. I think vvd's time is up, was a great player but it's clear he isn't up to playing at the top level every game. He was to blame for the first two goals Villa real scored against us and every time he's on the pitch, he looks one step too short.

Also iraola needs to take some responsibility, too much rotating doesn't work, as team can't settle.

Tbh, i don't think half the players are good enough or suitable enough for iraolas style of play especially gravenberch and szobazlai neither of them can tackle and neither of them have a set position in midfield and neither contribute much.
