Maybe this will be a bit controversial, but it's getting to the point where it isn't fun to even watch football any longer. With all of the ridiculous money involved, especially from the clubs owned by countries, what's the point? The Premier league is becoming the same as the Scottish, German, and French leagues where you know going into it you are playing for second.

Yes, there is the odd year where someone else wins the league, but year in and year out, you know Celtic or Rangers are going to finish 1 and 2, you know Bayern will more than likely win the league, you know PSG are more than likely going to win the league. The only thing about the NFL that I like is that there is a salary cap and that a team from the smallest market, Green Bay, is one of the best in the league and has a fighting chance year in and year out to compete with the larger market teams.

There is nothing in European football to level the playing field. Don't tell me that there is because we've seen where the big clubs can get away with ignoring FFP yet clubs like Everton get threatened. There is something fundamentally wrong with the system and it needs to be fixed quickly or else I fear for the future of the sport.

Not controversial mate, I personally haven't enjoyed football for quite a while.

FFP is pointless, city have now killed the Premier league and it is no longer competitive .

We gave them a close run but I fear Liverpool's demise is the final straw and we might as well give the the title now, maybe the reason we are struggling is a general feeling that whatever we do City will always do better.

Strike me down with pessimism but I see it as just realism, best we can Hooe for is a cup.

Its not a fundemental issue mate, its a brown envelope issue . When you are allowed to self sponsor your players canteen for 500 million using money from your own families wealth ( yes that's an exaggeration but probably not a million miles from the truth) then its due to the fact brown envelopes are exchanged. Has to be. We have to accept certain teams will never get punished. When Bellingham is there next season as they can offer a 200 million plus package and we can't then it will just get worse.

To be honest, my fundamental take on football has changed over the years. Previously, I would stew over a bad result all week, worry about what it meant in the grand scheme of the league, stress about other teams, and generally had a lot more involvement in looking at stats, fixture lists and the rest. Now, when it's game time, I want us to win, I get bummed if we don't, and then it's on to other things. Dunno if that's because of the state of football, or because I have 3 kids and plenty of other things to worry about, or just a realisation that football isn't the be all and end all, but it doesn't stop me enjoying watching the team (yes, even this season! ) .

The one thing that does ruin my enjoyment and lowers my mood (and this goes for football and my guilty secret, wrestling) are negative internet commenters. I don't mind a friendly debate, I don't mind the occasional moan, but people CONSTANTLY moaning about something that they themselves are supposed to enjoy really brings me down. I find it makes me think negatively, and that's not really me, so it totally bums me out.

In response to the op if Elon musk bought liverpool and punped in 10 billion and liverpool did what city are doing to everyone now would you still not enjoy the game.

It’s partly because nobody cares if City wins it.
Nobody hates City. We’re glad United don’t win it, United are glad Liverpool don’t win it, Arsenal are glad Spurs don’t win it etc etc.
If Man City win it it’s like nobody has won it, only money has won. Look at the title celebrations nobody is bothered
The refs haven’t helped last season gifting it to them adding to the demise of the premier league.

“city have now killed the Premier league and it is no longer competitive”

Really?! On what basis?

11/ 12 City won league on gd
12/ 13 United won by 11
13/ 14 city won by two
14/ 15 chelsea won by 8
15/ 16 Leicester win by 10
16/ 17 Chelsea won by 7
17/ 18 city win by 19
18/ 19 city win by 1
19/ 20 Liverpool win by 18
20/ 21 city win by 12
21/ 22 city wins in by 1

City have won 6 of the last 11
4 of those 6 wins title was decided by less than two points

Given the endless money thrown at them I would hardly call that uncompetitive.

People have already given them the title this year as well and they aren’t even top yet!

I don’t find football enjoyable where the result is a virtual forgone conclusion before the game has even started. City, PSG, Bayern, they win 75% of their games, most of the time quite easily. I think the enjoyment of a league is determined by its competitiveness rather than the quality of the teams, Serie A is the league to watch these days.

{Ed025's Note - not for me thunderbird. Italian football is boring and very slow imo. Nothing beats the cut and thrust of the prem mate and your only saying that because your team are not performing very well at the moment
I bet last year you were proclaiming the prem was the greatest show on earth…. You reds are so fickle mate..

To be fair though, them 2 seasons we finished a point behind them to make it seem competitive, we were both like 20 points ahead of anyone else. The only real competition was between two teams and frankly it is crazy we performed so well and pushed them so far.

City having a world class manager has elevated them to a new level, which is why they are putting up record numbers. We matched that which is why it has been more competitive than it probably should have been. If it wasn't for us then nobody would have come close and it would be absolute domination. I know United finished 12 points behind them 2 seasons ago but that was a strange C.V. season where the winning points total was in the 80s for the first time since Leicester won it back in 2015/ 16

I think the main issue that gets everyone so negative is there are peaks for teams, and it looks like Liverpool hit their peak. Now they have some aging players and need to transition to a new era which is natural for all teams. City can throw money at that issue and bypass it, buying both for the present and future, and if there is a mistake in the market then they just sell the player on and get a new one in, so it feels like an uphill battle and is demoralising.

Just my take though.

Rugby, pretty much took the words out of my mouth (minus the wrestling! ) . Years ago, if Liverpool lost, I'd be devastated for days, weekend ruined because nothing else mattered. However, as the years have gone by, I've fallen out of love with football. I very rarely watch matches, I usually just check in on the BBC live page or the live chat on here (though that's currently a depressing place to visit) .

I never watch Motd anymore, that used to be my weekly highlight as well. I try and keep up to date with LFC news and of course check this site, but I just find it all so, boring nowadays and just don't let it affect me negatively when we lose.

Actually I found the Premier League dull last season and also the season before that. I’d be willing to stake my house on City winning the league this season, it’s a virtual foregone conclusion, you can’t say the same about Serie A.

Great discussion here. To me, football has become tedious due to the brazen corruption in the game. We all knew the game was corrupt back then but now, the open brazenness is what is killing the fun. All you have to do is look at the outright shenanigans that Barcelona have gotten away with by manipulating their finances and stay in la Liga whereas the likes of Levante, Cadiz or Elche would have been liquidated way before now and forgotten about.

Secondly, this desperate excuse of a WC that is being forced down everyone’s throats despite many of our efforts to spit it out. I mean, why does it HAVE to be hosted in Qatar? Had South Africa committed these atrocities Qatar had committed, they would have been stripped of the hosting rights and they would have deserved it. Why has FIFA and UEFA cut the season in half just to please THIS country? Very strange indeed. As for City and the PL, the PL caused this type of thing to happen cos they were desperate to be the best league in the world. They got what they wanted: a One team league. Not sure that was the plan going in. Hope it was worth it.

Ed025, what's fickle about being excited last season by being in the running for the lot and being down this season because the performance is down? I don't see that as being fickle. Now, if Liverpool fans were to all of a sudden jump ship and start supporting another club, and then come back when things go well again, I would call that fickle.

{Ed025's Note - I say fickle stone because there is No In between with your lot. When you are winning your supporters give it large every day proclaiming how you are the best team in the world and all your players are world class. Then you have a mediocre start to this season and now your players are not good enough. Your owners are pathetic and some are calling for your managers head ffs. So yes mate….FICKLE!!!..

I have to disagree a bit there wassa. Look at the last 5 years. City have won 4. And in those 4 years, only one team has managed to be within 10 points of them, and that's us.

We're the only side to keep the title race competitive in the last 5 years since Pep got established at City. And imo, Klopp has made us punch a bit above our weight in that time. So everyone better hope that:

- Another team has stepped up by the time Klopp goes
- Whoever replaces Klopp transitions seamlessly
- Pep goes around the same time as Klopp so both teams are disrupted

Or the PL might get decidedly predictable at the top end.

Just because the title race in Italy is more open, the matches are still dreadful to watch.

Chelsea fan here just having my say.

Don’t think it’s fair to say that City have ruined the game. My club as well as others like United and to a lesser extent Arsenal and Liverpool all spend a lot of money as well as the smaller clubs in the premier league now spending £100+ some seasons. It’s not City’s fault that they just invest a lot better than other clubs. I think once Pep has gone and their senior players get older eventually the bubble will burst and other teams will have a better shot at winning the league. I think it’s time we all just admit Pep is a genius and probably the best manager the game has seen in a very very long time and maybe even the best ever. I do agree that football doesn’t feel the same as it used to thoigh, I loved the early 2000s premier league but now I can’t be bothered to watch most games outside of Chelsea and half the time even those games bore me to death. Too many teams passing sideways and backwards. Whilst the premier league probably has the best teams, for the most part it’s so much less enjoyable to watch than the other major leagues who go all out attack instead of focusing on keeping the ball the entire game.

Ed025, you said there was no in-between with your lot. I say there is no in-between with your judgement of us lot.
Sort it out, please ?.

{Ed025's Note - I will certainly try rigsby. I’m very opinionated just like everyone else mate…. But as a self proclaimed ambassador for Merseyside and founder of the “people’s club “ my views tend to have more credence than the average joe.. ?

24.) 03 Oct 2022
03 Oct 2022 09:37:51
Ed025, you're out of order with those comments, we are the best team in the world and that includes this season. Those pesky refs and Var have got it in for us again. Why do the refs love Man City so much.

{Ed025's Note - everyone loves city green flash. They are the new darlings of the FA and have taken over from Liverpool who are now seen as the unwashed and the penniless. You have had your day in the sun mate and now the status quo has been resumed the world is a better place.. ?

25.) 03 Oct 2022
03 Oct 2022 12:03:10
Ed025, you are a founder of 'the people's club'? I knew you were old but I didn't think you were that old. That explains you going on about Status Quo though.

{Ed025's Note - we were only named “the people’s club “ in the 90s rigsby. Before that we were just the pride of Merseyside mate.. ?

26.) 03 Oct 2022
03 Oct 2022 13:14:38
I'm with Ed25. Irrespective of who wins the PL, its still by far the best product in the world. Yeah, City might walk away with the PL this year, but there's CL and Europa League spots to play for, not to mention relegation. I do watch other Leagues, Portugese, Italian, French, Spanish etc and they are all good but nothing on the PL.
