Definately protecting the asset. As Iv said before he won't be worth more to Southampton than what he is right now. City won't be paying £40m next season for a player that just played a season in the championship. Even if he stays and rips up the championship and the PL the year after he will then have 2 less years on his contract. Nope if they want close to £50m they need to sell him now and they know it.

@Sean, they took the lad off at half time in one of their last pre-season games. His interest / attitude was questioned. Chances are he sat it out cos Southampton can see a big pay day coming but there might just be a bit of truth in what I was saying. Lavia does not want to play for Southampton any more, he has his heart set on Liverpool.

Liverpool after unsettling the player are refusing to pay the £50m Southampton want.

We were told this Transfer window we would leave no stone unturned to be competitive again for next season.

To return to the top 4 will only get harder now that Newcastle are in the conversation, and they will be there for a long time to come.

Our rivals are getting stronger, and I have not even mentioned Aston Villa who have done superb business and will be a threat next season.
