Ed2, don't want to get my hopes up about Szoboszlai without your confirmation. Do you know whether we have agreed to pay the release clause as some journalists are saying?

I have read majority of posts and can't see confirmation.

Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - I understand that is what Liverpool have promised. Looking for the briefcase.}

It is a strange term ‘told Leipzig that they will trigger the release clause’. I don’t think I’ve heard that one before. If they’re going to, why haven’t they just done it rather than saying they will? Not saying it won’t happen for a second, but not sure what this statement is all about.

I know you’re busy ed002, but do you know why it’s being done this way?

{Ed002's Note - They will look to avoiding paying a large amount of had cash.}

Briefcase full of old newspapers is what some might say.

Thanks for your incredibly in-depth knowledge Ed02.

I just wondered about the timescale of transfers like this with a clause that can expire. If Liverpool have said they will activate the clause, does that mean that we have to complete the transfer within a certain timeframe or can RBL reject our approach if we don’t complete it quickly enough?

{Ed002's Note - The club would have spoken to the club and negotiated a higher price over a longer period of time.}

4.) 30 Jun 2023
30 Jun 2023 22:10:52
Thanks Ed, if you don’t mind? Why would Leipzig agree to payment terms when they don’t have to? You mentioned in previous posts that it might be a higher amount paid over a longer term. Do you think that’s what will happen?

{Ed002's Note - Yes I do.}

My god, this is like a transfer deadline day. Come on. Get this thing done.

I wonder if or when the old, “we’ve got no money” brigade will eventually hold their hands up and admit they’re wrong. I know it’s not like people to do that these days but one can hope.

I for one am feeling very optimistic for the new season….

Quo Vadis
I think you need to read what Ed02 said about paying a higher fee over a longer period of time. It really doesn’t sound like a club awash with cash, more like a club trying to do its best.

11.) 30 Jun 2023
30 Jun 2023 23:34:26
Apparently an offer was rejected to pay in 2 installments and Liverpool have agreed to pay the release clause in full. It is also common for the buying team to finance the full amount through a 3rd party if it is agreed between the two clubs where the buying club pays back the 3rd party in agreed installments. I read this today im sure the Ed would know more about that and I'm sure there is interest involved etc.

{Ed002's Note - You mean further debt?}

12.) 30 Jun 2023
30 Jun 2023 23:48:33
Hi Ed, That's just what I read, as I said I don't know the ins and outs so if you say so, but isn't paying the selling club in installments at a higher value the same thing. Walks like a duck quacks like a duck kinda scenario.

{Ed002's Note - No it is different if you think about it.}

13.) 30 Jun 2023
30 Jun 2023 23:53:29
What does it matter Irish? If we get the players we need and the club pay for it in a cost efficient way?

Liverpool have spent a huge amount of money over the last couple of windows. Really don’t get why some pretend we haven’t.

14.) 01 Jul 2023

I wonder what the midfield recruits do for Trent’s positioning next season.

15.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 00:12:29
Ah ok Irish. Whatever suits the narrative then. Does that mean Nunez is already paid for, and Gakpo etc?

That’ll be close to 100mil spent (yes, yes, in instalments no doubt) with more likely to come. Hardly scraping the barrel or begging on street corners is it?

16.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 00:20:01
Huge? Come on now that’s disenguous.

17.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 01:43:20
It’s huge by most standards @Hessle, unless you own a country that sits on top of an oil field.

18.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 01:58:48
have to imagine with a second midfielder incoming, that the likelihood is that we persist with the hybrid role for trent. I for one will be disappointed, just cos I think the time is now for him to make the switch to midfield. but if he's happy and it works for him then all power to him.

19.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 02:15:46
Look at the net spend over the last five years.

{Ed001's Note - net spend is false and for those who lack the intelligence to actually understand football finances. It takes no account of all the extra payments around transfers, such as agent fees.}

20.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 05:27:12
Plus we will her 5000 green shield stamps.

21.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 07:51:36
Amazing how every team has money except us, I don’t understand the finances clearly.

22.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 08:18:38
Quo Vadis, again as Ed02 says, “you mean further debt? ”.

23.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 06:40:51
Okay Ed01, the point I was trying to make really is that whilst yes we have spent, not to the level of our major rivals and some clubs who are normally below us in the league. Would be great to see some real analysis in this including other costs and agent fees etc.

{Ed001's Note - we spent the 70s and 80s outspending everyone, but not investing enough in the infrastructure of the club. Now we are having to play catch up on building the infrastructure and it is meaning we are hampered on spending power. It is the way it is. Unless you are lucky enough to get gifted a cheap stadium like the Hammers and Citeh. Even Man Utd, the financial powerhouse that they are, have been neglecting infrastructure and that will have to be funded at some point to the detriment of their spending power.}

24.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 09:25:21
It won’t affect Utd spending when the shake moves in though Ed. In fact I don’t even think the current owners would allow it to stop them spending. It does seam as if it’s only us with these problems.

{Ed001's Note - if the sheikh buys them, then he will have to invest heavily in the infrastructure. They are a much richer company than us, so they should be able to continue spending. It is the way of the world. Why are people so whiney about others having more than us? Does it really bloody matter if some clubs are richer than others in a game?}

25.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 09:33:24
It’s nice to win games though

Taking part is pointless, contrary to what your mum said.

{Ed001's Note - taking part is not pointless. That is why we have a whole league pyramid set up. I will take me ma's word over yours any time.}

26.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 10:09:57
Seems like some people only want to support a club if they are one of the richest in the world. Makes you wonder why clubs like Scunthorpe have any fans at all.

27.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 10:44:20
Exactly Ed. If only the team that wins or is likely to win bothered to take part there wouldn't be many teams or games in the league. Honestly can't understand how people forget so quickly that we won the league, cups, champions league, and just missed out on adding a few more titles in very recent years. Mad how we get all these players on free transfers without even having to pay agent or any other fees as well. Not the richest club but we compete, in the transfer market and on the field, and we will again. It can't go right all the time, would be boring if it did.

28.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 10:52:11
“It’s nice to win games though”

Melodramatics at its finest. Anyone would think we’d just been relegated!

Talking-Sense or Talking-Sh*te?

Long-term debt is a ball and chain, which could have catastrophic consequences with the economic situation as it is.
FSG are playing by the rules, rules which others ignore and one day, when they do sell, there will be new and different things to complain about.

30.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 11:33:19
Agree @Rugby.

31.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 12:32:31
Just cause I missed it last night. Pretty much any agreement in instalments is debt, Irish. You do live in the world and use money, correct? I think eds insinuation was acquiring a loan to pay a lump sum up front.

The point is Chelsea with their huge investments won't have paid upfront, city won't pay up front etc. In fact, the only deal I've heard of where a single fee was supposedly paid was that of neymar to PSG.

You can keep denying that money is available every window while we keep spending, just to suit your agenda or you can hold your hands up and say you don't know jack.

I know what I believe when I see deals being done and players coming through the door.

{Ed001's Note - Carroll to Liverpool and Torres to Chelsea were also paid in full up front.}

32.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 14:11:34
If we don't buy players, people complain we have no money
When we do sign a player, people complain we didn't spend money the right way.

Eds - you must roll your eyes at the swings and roundabouts on here lol

The whole irony of worrying so much about what other clubs spend is that, besides City, our trophy hauland overall performance in league and cups is as good as that performance and trophy haul of all those other clubs combined.

33.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 14:37:08
I was hoping FSG and LFC would pull a rabbit by agreeing 40M and rest 20 as addons based on performance.

Looks like we have agreed full 60.

Very costly indeed but appears on par relatively going with other transfers.

Don't know why but I just like this transfer. maybe the name ?.

34.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 15:16:00
I won’t be holding my hands up for anything Quai

A club that sanctions panic deals for Kabak, Ben Davies and Arthur because they won’t invest properly are not serious. We finished fifth when sane sections of the fan base could see we needed midfielders. No, won’t be advocating FSG until they invest healthily (not stupidly or excessively) year on year to compete.

35.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 15:20:20
Interesting ed. I didn't know that, but it makes sense when you think of the timing.

I mean, I'm sure there are lots of money up front deals really, that was just the only one I could think of. The vast majority will be paid in installments through right?

{Ed001's Note - oh yes, usually the only ones that are paid up front are those that trigger the release clause, such as the Neymar deal. Even then, they are usually a loan taken out, which is then paid back in instalments. A friend of mine used to work for a finance company that provided the funding for a number of clubs, including Spurs. It is the standard method is to take out a short term financing option to pay the upfront payment, which is rarely more than 50% apparently.}

36.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 19:46:10
I see Frode. You’re the sort of person that would be run over and still insist you don't need to look before crossing the road. The only one of those examples that could garner any serious consideration for cause for complaint would be Arthur.

I wonder, would you mind doing an analysis of all the failed signings of other premier league rivals in the same period? Especially those with a combined fee of less than 10 million and then tell me that Liverpool have been just as badly run.

Could you also compare the trophies won in that same period by those clubs and tell me where non oil money trumps that of Liverpool’s haul?

You just keep digging if you like….

37.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 22:20:05
Heard a 3rd party lent the money so liverpool could spread the payments over years of his contract. obviously with interest. Is this what most clubs do ed? Not unlike Chelsea loop hole really.

{Ed002's Note - What loop hole is that?}

38.) 01 Jul 2023
01 Jul 2023 22:33:00
Well well if it takes no account the net spend then city have been royally taking the mike!
