ED1 why did klopp decide to go for alisson after i thought he was happy to keep karius as number 1? I agree with the decision as Karius is a decent keeper but i think his own arrogance let's him down do you think karius will be happy as a number 2 or do you see him leaving on loan or sale?

andyjh316

{Ed001's Note - because Alisson is potentially the best there is, whereas Karius was only ever going to be a very good keeper if he reached his full potential.}

IMO when RM realised they could get Courtois, Alisson realised we were next best option (though maybe price quoted was a factor also? ) Roma clearly were happy to sell at right price so Klopp saw opportunity and convinced owners to go for it.

2.) 20 Jul 2018 09:14:46
Prices only seem bad if the player doesn't succeed.

Has anyone at all on the planet apart from ed002 recently mentioned vvds price?

Alison does well and we won't hear another word said.

It's horrific if it doesn't go well.

Look at pogba. The scrutiny is ridiculous, he's just won a world cup and it still won't end.

With a price tag like that your first 6 months are the absolute most important. Get them right and it's all groovy.

Ultimately we’ve gone out and bought the best available to us, given that Courtois has no interest in moving to Liverpool and Oblak would have been more expensive. We now have a very very good starting 11 and good quality strength in depth. I think we have potentially a title winning team here.

4.) 20 Jul 2018 17:03:03
Klopp read all of FMS’s posts on here and then went and bid for Alisson.

Hi Ed1

sooo whos the top 5 keepers in the prem then? where do you think allison will sit much higher than migs and karius obviously but is he going to be as good as de gea etc? excuse my ignorance i've not see him play bar against us in champ league semi and brazil at worldcup but neither are enough to judge!

andyjh316

{Ed001's Note - De Gea is top of the tree but Alisson is not far off. The rest are a way off those two. Courtois probably stands out as 3rd. There is a bunch all pretty much of a muchness after that, just different types, such as Lloris, Leno, Heaton.}

1.) 19 Jul 2018 13:43:35
My Prem top 8 would be De Gea, Allison, Courtois, Lloris, Pope, Ederson, Pickford, Leno (in that order)

{Ed001's Note - Pickford? Really? And Pope above Heaton? Pope is a great shotstopper but abysmal in every other aspect.}

2.) 19 Jul 2018 13:49:22
For me edd is nearly right but I'd put courtois and lloris ahead of Alisson.
To be fair though courtois is probably off soon. By next season I think most people will see him as 2nd best in the Premiership.

3.) 19 Jul 2018 13:49:35
I'd put Alisson in the top 5 in the world, in the premier league he'd be without a doubt 2nd. Alisson had a brilliant season with Roma, if he continues on that track he'll be better than De Gea.

4.) 19 Jul 2018 13:56:18
Lloris ahead of Alisson Walter? personally I have never really understood all the hype about him, he's good there's no doubt but world class he is not. Courtois is a great keeper but he's not at Alissons level.

5.) 19 Jul 2018 13:58:14
Ed001, I was only including first choice keepers. Heaton is probably better than them both when fit and on form, but It's been over a year since I saw him play.

{Ed001's Note - and he started the season as Burnley number one.}

6.) 19 Jul 2018 14:09:52
For me it’s De Gea, Ederson, Courtois, Lloris, Pickford based on last season hopefully Alisson will solt into the mix towards the top and I think Leno could do too.

7.) 19 Jul 2018 14:12:54
I know Ed, but last time I saw him play was probably mid 2016/ 17 season. I can barely remember how good he was so I dodn't want to include him just because you did or else It's not really a true reflection of my opinion! If that makes sense?

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, just pointing out that he was way ahead of Pope before his injury and he really is a much better keeper overall.}

8.) 19 Jul 2018 14:27:22
He was fantastic before his injury Ed, if I remember eightly. His performance against Man Utd in 16/ 17 was the best collection of saves from one match that I've ever seen. I didn't see the game, just the highlights, but there were at least 5 world class saves. I can't remember the last time I watched him play a full 90 though. Probably when we beat them 2-1 with that long range shot from Can. That's the only reason I didn't include him.

{Ed001's Note - he was one of the most improved players in recent years, such a shame about his injury.}

9.) 19 Jul 2018 14:35:31
I just looked at the team sheets from that day we bear Burnley 2-1, Tris, to check Heaton even played (he did) . We had Mignolet in goal. Clyne, Matip, Klavan, Milner in defence. Gini, Can, Lallana in midfield. Mane, Origi, Coutinho up front.

That was 16 months ago. That has amazed me how far the team has come so quickly. The only ome of those players I see starting regularly this season is Mane. That is an insane turnaround.

{Ed001's Note - it is a massive improvement made since then.}

10.) 19 Jul 2018 14:39:29
Shot stopping us just a part of being a keeper, calm and cool with your feet and distribution also commanding your box and organizing the defence so with all this etc. top 5 would look a lot different if you ask me but that's just my opinion.

11.) 19 Jul 2018 15:09:46
Salah just my opinion but even lloris when he has the odd moment in goal is still better.
For me they are basically neck and neck in all attributes except I feel Lloris can catch a ball from crosses and shots better.
With the right coaching I am hoping Alisson will improve his catching. In 2 years he has the potential to be the best.

EDs with all this energy being put into signing Allison do we know if he even wants to join us? i thought he was set on Madrid etc? would we have had any feedback from his agent etc he would be interested in the move before putting in such high bids etc?

andyjh316

{Ed001's Note - Madrid was his favoured option but Bobby has been doing a good job of selling the club to him, as has our number one club diplomat in Italy - Lucas.}

1.) 18 Jul 2018 13:09:49
Typical Bobby already looking to notch up an assist before the season has even begun.

2.) 18 Jul 2018 13:13:05
Even when he's gone Lucas is still helping the club, what a gentleman.

3.) 18 Jul 2018 13:15:25
You really got to love Lucas, the club has to employ him in some capacity when he retires.

4.) 18 Jul 2018 13:50:46
Lucas is fast become one of my all time favourite players

Really do hope he gets into coaching one day and comes back to Anfield

Top guy.

5.) 18 Jul 2018 13:40:47
I'll never have anything but respect and admiration for Lucas, he's up there with Dirk Kuyt as unsung Liverpool legends of recent times.

6.) 18 Jul 2018 13:56:32
awesome love the fact lucas still has that kind of love for lfc despite the abuse he used to put up with at the start! well hopefully he's in!

7.) 18 Jul 2018 14:16:52
Hi Ed01, trust you're well mate. Could you do a player profile, if you've not already been asked, on Alisson and Lucas, who has to be one of the most underrated players to have pulled on the Red shirt.

{Ed001's Note - added them to the list for you mate.}

8.) 18 Jul 2018 14:23:28
Lucas is also helping to weaken lazios biggest rivals.

9.) 18 Jul 2018 14:56:05
So it's a win win for Lucas then👍.
