I'm reading reports that Kompany wants Joe Gomez as a high priority target for Bayern.
Seems unlikely but if it is true i would struggle to choose whether to sell or not. For me he will never be a starter but his versatility makes him a great squad player.
If we signed somebody like Geertruida who can cover LB and LCB it would make sense to sell him I suppose.

Take the money and run. He is behind a 17 year old for a very good reason. Invest the money on a top class LCB.

Why doesn’t joe get any respect on this page? He was one of our players of the season last year when Trent and robbo were out, didn’t let anybody down until the very latter stage of the season when he looked as gassed as anybody else, also he played 51 games for us, give the man some credit, he might not be the world class looking cb that he was five years ago, but he is an A class squad player who can capably contribute whenever anybody in the back line is injured, wish folks could appreciate the players we have instead of always pining for new ones.

For someone who apparently can't play football, playing 51 games for a top tier team and then being selected for your country is quite impressive. Though apparently it's only because there are no other English defenders in the world so Southgate was forced to pick him. Gomez has long been an easy target for some on this site for some reason.

I think Gomez is more than worth keeping around. He can play right back and left back quite competently, he’s a decent (but not brilliant) centre back, so he’s a Swiss Army knife defender. You need a player like that in the squad.

As much as I like Joe, he’s a squad player, not a starter so any serious offer needs to be considered by the club and the player himself.
I wouldn’t consider selling him myself unless the fee is too good to turn down and we can replace with better or younger.

Agree with Stuie. Gomez only played because there wasn’t anyone available. And let’s hope that’s not the case next year. He won’t ever be a starter and we should be having those who can push the current ones at the very least.

Gomez is definitely a player I'd be looking to keep. Covers across the back 4 and does a good job pretty much every time he plays. So we can sell him for maybe £15m, how much will it cost to replace that much versatility?

Joe gets a lot of abuse - he’s another one who suffers from not getting long runs in the team.
He’s always been good enough in my opinion.

I see we're linked with Geertruida again today. Can anyone honestly say he's a better player than Gomez? Probably not but he'd probably cost twice as much as we'd get for Gomez yet offer similar ability/ vetsatility on the pitch.

I acctually like Gomez a lot. And I thought his appearances as inverted left wing back this season were excellent. A good squad player with good versatility but if he wants first team football I would be happy to move him on.

Last season he played RB, CB, LB and DM. He has loads of PL and European experience. He’s currently in the England squad for the Euros …. He’s 27 and has never let us down. Ideal candidate to “take the money … and run”.

Joe Gomez is good enough to start, be a back-up or a utility along the backline. When he had that long stretch next to VVD without injury he was very good. Added to that is the fact he seems to be a positive member of the team, has never been an issue with anything on the field, off the field or anywhere. He is the kind of utility and character every club needs.
his main issue has been maintaining fitness. Gomez isn't someone I'd be looking to move on any time soon.
