didnt have the chance to post before the spurs match but with the title probably gone now, i just hope that the last 3 matches would at least be enjoyable. and i'm glad it currently is!

with the quality TAA has, sticking him in RB and not inverting, gives us width and good deliveries. and hey, maybe the nerves are now gone and we are back to high pressing and see what it did for us - intensity, chances, goals.

i'll probably never agree with or enjoy the inverted FB thing. but regardless of formation and tactics, just play with heart, aggression and energy. it at least makes it fun.

so thanks for going back to the Klopp Liverpool.

Tierney up to his old tricks again. A Spurs player falls over and it's a free kick to them.

Best first half iv seen for a while from us . I know the pressure is off but still nice to see . I like Gakpo in this position . he looks confident n aggressive. lookin forward to 2nd half.

Mainly because we've dropped the inverted wing backs and played gakkers in his natural position. Footballs a simple game.

I see goals today against Spurs as both defences are poor at the moment.
Big VVD out to by the looks of it, so I’m going with Diaz to score and 2-2 or 3-2 the reds.
38/ 1 and 30/ 1 respectively.

The soft penalties that Arsenal and City keep being awarded is beyond a joke now.

I was watching Arsenal this morning and turned it off when they got that pen. Coote is hands down the worst ref in the league and that's saying something. Hats off to him.

Started watching City and turned that off when they got a pen. For me that was a 50-50 and nothing else. I'd like them both to lose the league but obviously that can't happen. I have to go with who i dislike the least and that for me has to be City.

Havertz has at least 1 bookable dive every single game it seems. Cheating is now considered a tactic and part and parcel of the game. I am finding the PL harder and harder to watch. If I want acting I'll watch Netflix or wresting. What football has become is such a shame.

For me, there's no coincidence that Arteta worked under Pep, and now he's the Arsenal manager and both Coty and Arsenal get these amazing decisions.

So if we are playing 4-2-3-1, will this be the team?

GK: Alisson (but rumours are he wants to move on), Kellerhen (probably gone) . May be a huge summer for this position. Is Jaros ready to be a backup at least?

LB: Robbo, Beck, I suppose Tsimikas may go or Robbo goes and he stays to fight with Beck for the place

RB: Bradley as starter for me and Calvin Ramsay as cover

LCB: VVD? (Will he stay? ), Hancock seems to be the name being touted around, Gomez as cover perhaps (but rumours are he hopes to move)

RCB: Konate, Quansah

DM: Endo, Clark, Connell (playing the enforcer role)

Deep playing playmaker: TAA (he does need to improve his defensive awareness, workfare), Baj

LW: Diaz (but his dad is hawking him around), Gakpo, Jota (if he can stay fit), Jones?

RW: Salah (given his decline and recent outburst, I won't mind moving him on), Szoboslai (may get the best out of him), Gravenberch?

AM: Macca, Elliot

CF: Nunez (or a new cf as we do need someone to score), Danns.

sg, that would just about struggle to make top four. Midfield offers zero protection to the defence and lacking pace and quality out wide.

I think SG is just trying to see how our current squad would fit into that shape. I do agree that we may need to move on some players and get a few new ones to make it work. But I think that squad would be able to make top four.

So many possibilities. Very excited to see how the new manager sets up and until then we won't really know. I'm not against Trent in midfield. Everyone called him the best RB in the world when the high pressing style prevented him being put under pressure and his weaknesses exposed as they have been since. Provided we play to strengths, I don't think there's any reason he can't do the job of a DLP.
More than anything else I just hope we give opportunities to Sepp Van De Berg, Ramsay, Bajcetic and maybe even a route back for Carvalho. We have a lot of talent in this team.

yup, i was just trying to see how players we have or are linked with may fit in. while we have a decent squad, I do think we need to make a few purchases to make us compete for the title again. there was a lot of talk mid season this team is prime for greatness from next season but upon careful examination, i think its best to say its decent, and we do have some good talent coming through the academy, but it may not have enough quality and power in it to go for the big prizes.

Help me with something please. I agree that the last few games have been slow build up, TAA coming into the midfield and frustrating to watch - yet we keep creating soooo many chances to score. So, can someone who understands football better than me, explain how we don't like the football, or the tactics, yet we are one of, if not the most offensive teams in the league? ( appreciate we don't hit the net! )

The thing is, we might be creating a good amount of chances, but when the goals don't come (partly due to players finding themselves in positions they don't necessarily do well in), the feel of the tactics leave you with a numb sensation, as it is just dreadfully boring to watch. As well, the players look compromised, especially the games against Atalanta, Everton, Crystal Palace - it was painful to watch, where with a more fast paced style they would have probably thrived more.

We as supporters have come to know this Liverpool team under a certain kind of DNA, the gegenpress, the heavy metal. It's of course been tweaked over the years, but it essentially became the Liverpool way. To watch this slow paced possession football, and to watch it not work, has just been a bit of a pain and a let down, to put it rather mildly. It doesn't feel Liverpool.

Is the Ljinders legacy going to continue under Slot? The possession-based football and inverted fullbacks?

{Ed002's Note - Probably.}

I think you have to look at the opposition too.

Against Atalanta, Palace and Everton and even Utd they sat off us and let us have the ball at the back. Then they either man marked (Atalanta) or sat in a low block and denied the space for us to play through.

We are playing very nervously right now so instead of seeing the pass and playing it we are holding onto the ball at the back too long so by the time we go to pass the ball the space has been blocked off. We then just turn and pass it sideways or backwards and the whole process starts again.

I don’t think for one minute Klopp has told the players to do this I just think they are nervous and want to make sure of the pass instead of playing with spontaneity. After a while I’ve noticed the forwards stop making runs because they are not getting the ball and that then makes the defence and midfield’s job even harder.

As for missing chances it’s purely nerves and tension so they are snatching at chances. Even Salah has caught that particular bug and you can’t say he normally lacks composure or is a poor finisher. It’s just one of those things.

I think it’s wrong to blame the tactics as we’ve seen since April last year that these tactics work. I think it’s more a combination of nerves from our players and the opposition being a bit more stubborn and organised as the results become more important.

We’ll start a fresh next season with a new man in charge and hopefully a renewed purpose and vigour. I wouldn’t get too hung up on tactics it’s like Klopp always says ‘there are thousands of ways to win a football match and we just need to find one’.

For me it's all about quality. City and Arsenal have proven that this style of play can work, I just don't think we very good at it, or Pep isn't a good coach because it clearly isn't Klopp's personal coaching approach. If Slot can change that and get us to do it well then fine, but personally I would prefer us go back to Klopp's early days style of play. We might not win everything but it was bloody brilliant to watch.
